Note taking app - Acer Iconia Tab A100

If you are looking for a note taking program for the A100 I just tried the Supernote app that was pulled from the Asus Transformer. It works really well on the a100. A link can be found in this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18079250&postcount=18

Tried this on my A100 in the week, brilliant little app for notes, better than anything else I have found!

SuperNote does not fit on the screen of my A100. I installed from the .apk and when run, it seems to be trying to fill a 10" screen.
It has many of the same features as Genial Writing:

The Supernatural signed apk works great for me on my A100.

You can change the density of the LCD screen if you have issues with it, but it fits my screen just fine. The only thing I found is that the default templates were designed for a 10" screen, the app itself scales with the tablet.

I personally use Evernote because it syncs with all my devices, but thanks for the tip I will definitely try it out

[HOW-TO] make apps that don't scale ...scale :)

This works on most apps that don't scale to fit the entire screen, minus a few gameloft games.
This fixed for me Engadget, speed test and some other apps that just filled a small part of the screen.
The process is completely safe and reversible. no root required:
It seems that the stock firmware comes with "Compatibility mode" enabled by default and this is preventing from some apps to scale.
To fix this download space parts from the market.
- Open spare parts.
- Scroll all the way to "compatibility mode". it is unchecked, check it. if there is already a check mark there, uncheck and check it.
- reboot phone
- open spare parts again
- Scroll all the way to "compatibility mode". uncheck it.
- reboot phone
- done.
now apps like engadget will scale to fill the entire screen.
NOTE: it seems that in the latest version on some firmware version this options is disabled by default so most apps *should* scale.
If apps like engadget already scale for you - you do not need to do this.
Nice!! Thanks for your tip

Thank you for the share
Youre a charmer mate, thank you.
EDIT: works on reckless racing but not retro defense. Probably scales xml only...
You're a God... That engadget thing has been bugging the &?!&"#/& out of me! Thank you!!

Some Gameloft titles scale better than others.
NOVA scales well.
UNO not so much.
Asphalt 5, some say it scales well. for me it is not. maybe u used an older version.
This is great, but it makes one of my fav launchers go weird... I love UltimateFaves pro... using this trick suddenly makes the carousels tiny I use the carosel to put call and sms favs.... great way for me to send out sms fast to the few I always msg...
http://goo.gl/tBbLs
I would definetely use this trick as it seems to only help some apps scale right (most in my case). Does anyone know how to NOT let it try scale/affect certain apps like this one?
This Program is work with any not fix resolution programs but not work with fix resolution prgrams.
some fix resolutio progams will be not open or smaller displays than original display and problem with sensor for game too. I try to play hungry Shark is full screen but sensor is slowly than original display
For phones?
Is it possible to use this on my HTC Hero in combination with LCD Resizer?
Thank you.
Thank you so very much!!!

I haven't had any issues with VTL myself, guess I'm just lucky. Btw, does anyone else have a home replacement that is smooth and just as functional on a tab?
I'm using TINYPLAYER for my mp3's.
Its a pure player.
No Art work or search controls. Shows music by file name from folder you set. I actually like it like that. Has shuffle repeat and random. Also another cool feature is font re-size.
But one problem with it don't know if other are having same problem. When using the app and you initiate the g sensor that would reorient the screen the player give error about cant find the SD card. I play music when I drive so this really erks me. Bumps are fine but soon as I turn I get the error. I store my music on the SD card about 10 gigs worth.
where can i get the penpower chinese writing pad that works with thrive??
My Spider Solitaire should work without problems on Thrive: https://market.android.com/details?id=magory.solitairespiderhd. It is designed for tablet screens (doesn't work on phones). I'm working on some improvements now (expect them next week). Am also working on another, more advanced game. Writing for Android is fun.

hey all, the not sure why it hasn't been said yet but adw ex works like it was made for the thrive. Very stylish seen transitions and I can't explain how fast it is (you need to try it yourself) it also allows you to use more of the screen unlike the stock. All widgets and are resizable, you can create as many or as little screens (I prefer to have received rather than the standard 5)

Iconia A100 sucks at app compatibility

Downloaded an upgrade to Skype today, and included was a bunch of new devices, that got videocalling with the upgrade. Among others was the Iconia A500, but of course no A100. ARGHHH!!!
After a couple of weeks of owning the A100, I'm more than happy at the size and speed of this little tablet, but it's getting to be really tiresome, that most of the cool new games and apps I find in the Market aren't compatible with the A100
Even some TABLET APPS aren't compatible.
And this is just the apps openly state they aren't compatible. With some of them, you won't find out until you either open it, and a message tells you that your device isn't compatible, or it just plain crashes on you...
(To further the confusion, in some cases you can download a demo from Tegrazone, but when you try to buy the full game after happily playing the demo, Android Market tells you, that the game isn't compatible with your device.... WTF?!?!)
Who's fault is this exactly? Is it Google that messed up? The developers that are just plain lazy? Or is Acer somehow to blame?
(I noticed that most apps report my screen in the A100 as being 600*976 pixels. Is this somehow the problem for at least some of the uncompatible apps!?)
And more importantly, what can I as a user do? Shoot off some friendly emails to developers? Or can a root or somekind of hack help solve the problem?
Opinions, suggestions?

Errr, yes it is (on A500/A501)! If you took 10 seconds to search you'll find in the skype parameters the possibility to turn on video (it isn't by default) and it works, I've just spent an hour on skype video, you can choose which camera you want to use, everything works perfectly. Sorry for being off topic but I just wanted to clarify what the person above me said...

Those options do not exist in HC 3.2 on the A500.
In mine stock 3.2 non root exist. Is in settings at the skype application. But you need the last skype update. I just finished a video conference right now and it worked great. Try again.
Alright, on 3.2 Rooted, but the rom that has all the bloatware and everything pretty much intact Skype does not do video calls or show ANY of the video options in the settings.
I reverted back to a backup of 3.1, and the app DOES do video call, and show the video call settings.
I don't know what your doing Kekinash, but you've got a magical tablet.
That's weird, my A501 on 3.01 stock rom with root is compatible with skype video calls.

Be patient
Unfortunately the 7" and 8.9" sizes are 'new territory' for HC apps. Devs worked to get apps compatible with/to 10" screens and the associated resolutions that run on that size primarily for their tablet-only applications. In the same way devs for phone (1.5-2.3) apps have been working to make their apps scale up for tablet use, I'm sure HC-only app devs are working quickly to make their apps scale to smaller tablet screen sizes and those new resolutions. Even if the resolutions are already supported, afaik there's an issue in 3.2 causing them to crash when paired with 7" screens either way.
So when I say be patient, I mean hold out a bit longer and I'm sure things will be up to spec. On one hand you'll have the quicker devs fixing their apps to work well with smaller screens/different tablet resolutions and worse case scenario, you know it's all coming together anyway for ICS and at that point, everything SHOULD work.
Edit:
And friendly emails to devs let me tell you, do tend to get the job done. Especially when the app is popular. I use Getglue and was frustrated that it wasn't after quite a long time, not changed to be compatible with 3.0.1. I wrote a friendly email to the dev. asking for a Getglue for Tablets because I really loved the app and I sit with my tablet beside me more so than my phone now at home, etc. etc. and I got a response from my team saying that the app was unfortunately no longer compatible, but to use the mobile site. This was in July. Then roughly a few weeks or so later, voila! Fix'd. So it never hurts to let them know what's up.
most apps work in my stock A100
So far I have had no problems with the apps I use and have downloaded or even pay for. Skype now does video calls perfectly, the only app that was crashing a lot was a spell checker tha I did uninstall and replaced with an other one that has no problems.
Just checked, and the video options DID turn on in Skype.
Along with a little warning that it might not be supported, blah blah...
So I got to use the front camera for the first time today
Dunno if it's just me but it seems not all the apps I could/can see on my A500 appear on my A100. Same gmail account. For a while I couldn't find Facebook on the market.
Yeah, there would be a lot of apps for the A500 that aren't compatible with the A100 I can imagine.
Best way to check, is to go in to the www version of the market, then you can see all apps, no matter if theyre compatible or not. If you have several devices, the www market tells you which one of your devices an app is compatible with. I wish there was a similar feature in the market app.
BUT! On the bright side, I DID get around to rooting my A100... You think that might make a difference in regards to apps? Is there some kind of workaround available now that its rooted?
I just activated cam on my A100 and it is working fine.
?? Does Skype update automatically???

my Wife has the Iconia Tab 7" and when she gets incompatibility issues, all I do is side load the app. example, American Express app says its not compatible with her device. I just copied it from one of my Android devices and Bluetooth it to her, she installs it and it works 100%
sometimes the market place is just wrong. when I want an app even though the market says NO, I find the .apk from somewhere and install it. on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 Gameloft says their game Lets Golf 3 doesn't work....BS, Ive been playing this game for a month now with ZERO issues.

Google Reader?

I take it Google Reader isn't optimized for the 7" tablet size yet?
I have been using it for over a month and it works great.
Same here. I don't use it much, but when I do it works fine for me. What is it doing/not doing?
ummmmm............ could you repeat that?
Well, the tablet version has the topics on the left and articles in the middle when in landscape. mine looks just like the phone version.
Sent from my GT-P6210 using Tapatalk
Yes. You are correct it is not optimized for the 7" tablets yet. However, if you change the density of the screen to that of a 10" tablet, it works as expected (not like the phone version, but like the tablet version should). I switched to gReader Pro because i dont want to change the density of my screen permanently just for google Reader.
Recently Google has optimized it, on mu A100 is perfect but I prefere ChannelsPro for my feed

HOW TO: Increase Effective Resolution/Adjust PPI of your Note 2

Hey everybody
One of the most useful mods I have performed on my Note 2 is a PPI adjustment, which effectively increases the resolution of the screen. I'm not sure why this isn't more commonly discussed, because I think it really takes advantage of the phone's size and tablet-like qualities (especially with the new MultiView update, if that appeals to you). I know many users of the original Note did this mod, which is how I found out about it. I suspect that many other Note 2 users may not be aware of this trick...
WHAT IT DOES
It has the same effect as increasing one's monitor resolution - more content is able to be displayed on screen. If all the icons, text, menus, etc on your Note 2 just seem really BIG to you, this is the antidote.
Look at the two before and after screenshots attached. I would have posted them in line, but as a new user I am prohibited from doing so.
REQUIREMENTS
ROOTED Note 2 - there are other Howto's on XDA that cover this
ROM Toolbox Pro (other apps may work too, possibly including the free version of ROM Toolbox, but this is what I used)
HOW TO DO IT
Root your phone and install ROM Toolbox Pro. Go to the performance tab, and click "build.prop" editor. There will be two entries called "ro.sf.lcd_density"
Within each one, change the property value and the default value to 240. That's four numbers you're replacing. On the last change, go ahead and reboot. Done!
OTHER NOTES
With the original Note, it was common for this mod to break the Market. This is no longer the case. But, there are a few things that break to varying degrees. They're easy to fix though...
TouchWiz: The default launcher will not adapt to the new settings, and you will have a lot of blank space. Fix by installing another launcher. I use Nova.
The Clock app breaks completely. I replaced with Alarm Clock Plus.
The dialer, like TouchWiz, will remain small. You could replace with a custom dialer, but I actually left it as-is because a side effect is that it's really easy to use with one hand.
The Camera app has the same problem. Camera Zoom FX makes a good replacement.
the Samsung keyboard breaks, thus taking down handwriting input with it. Swype works fine, as does s-note.
Aside from those minor issues, everything has worked fine, including all the 3rd party apps I have.
Hope this is helpful to some of you guys.
Seriously, this phone is amazing at 240

This is great. One other app is the email app only takes half the screen on portrait. Really need to figure out how to install the AOSP JB Email app on here....
Another benefit is Swiftkey Tablet keyboard now does the split keyboard on landscape which is easier to type on.
The only problem is that you can't use the handwriting mode with the stylus with the ppi set to 240 because the Samsung keyboard keeps fc'ing. That's my only complaint so far with this phone is that the handwriting mode is tied to the Samsung keyboard.

I had problems with apps saying they weren't compatible with my device... cleared data in the market app... still no dice. Any insight?

I'm not real fond of the way the dialer looks so I'm using Go Contacts which has a pretty good dialer.

The market is probably filtering since at this resolution it is probably now considered an x-large device.
Really like this resolution, will need to use for a while to see which apps decide to crap out.
you can also edit the build.prop with root explorer. If you edit the it to be =160 it switched to tablet mode, but crashes a lot
=170 i think its still tablet and doesn't crash

This is true. I forgot to mention and will update the original post. Hopefully devs will fix at some point.

To be honest, with jelly bean letting us choose "tiny" text now and the screen size being so big, I'm not as inclined to change the Res on this thing anymore... in the past with my S2 that was the first thing i would do whenever I flashed a new rom.

installed, set to 170, put on nova launcher, and downloaded a jellybean keyboard. so far so good, but how do I get the "hold home to bring up all running apps back" feature? It looks like Nova doesn't support this...

Hmm, which rom are you using? I have stock rooted with nova and this feature still works.

Technically the Galaxy Note II does have a higher screen res than the Galaxy S III since the Note 2 does not have a pentile display. Paranoid Android in the future will also let you completely customize the size of everything on your phone without messing up the market due to DPI issues.

Do you think PA will come to this phone? If so, it will be a great addition and will fit this device perfectly.

anyone with issues sending MMS? I had taken a pic and tried to send MMS but got a unsupported file type or something like that and wont attach the picture. reverting back to 320dpi works.
hopefully the samsung keyboard will work with this in the future, it looks sooo much better with the dpi change .. specially with multi-view (although the menu and border of it doesnt stretch all the way across the screen).
bala gamer is hopefully going to take a shot at FIXING the bits that don't work right at 240dpi !! I especially hope he can fix the keyboard as I LOVE the keyboard.
for the multi window just drag the menu to the TOP OR BOTTOM edge and it displays correctly at 240dpi (the separator is not wide enough but thats not an issue)
Zoom FX is no good since it uses "smaller" images (really small) in burst mode NOT 8mp. I found that out the hard way after I shot some really nice shots and later discovered the res was so small it was useless to me
