I'm Watch Android based BT & Wifi watch accessory - General Accessories

The Italian firm Blue Sky are releasing their i'm Watch, which is an Android 1.6 wrist based touch screen accessory. It's like the SonyEricsson LiveView, only keeps time natively, has both BT and Wifi, a microphone, a tiny speaker, a high resolution 220 ppi screen, a motion sensor, according to the stuff I've read about it.
One of the possibilities of this device, for those of us who enjoy Squeezebox based music, is for its ability to run the Squeezecommander app and function as a stand alone touch remote control.
I could also see a lot of cool watch faces being created based on this device.
One disadvantage of this device is the screen lights up only after manual button pushing. According to i'm Watch they'll release a software update to enable always on mode. This will likely drain the battery in a few hours, so what would be needed is a motion sensitive app that lights up the screen say, with a twist of the wrist.
The manufacturer will release an SDK, and will have their own dedicated forum. However, since XDA is the greatest mobile related forum in the world, with so many talented hackers it would be great to give this accessory its own thread over here.
Lots of possibilities!

i'm Watch removed the Wifi capability from the final specification as far as I can tell. Too bad.

I'm really interested in one of these.
But i feel that we need a custom rom to fully utilize the full potential of this device. Hopefully they will release the full kernel sources.
Would froyo be possible? Speed/battery improvements would be welcome!

Would this be an Accessory or it's own standalone device? I thought it was a device on it's own, as in doens't connect to another phone like liveview

It's expensive as hell though. At 299 euros, that's about $412 USD. I just bought this last night. $60: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VXLW4E
And if you want the SE LiveView, it's only like $70 on Amazon.

As far as i know the i'm watch connects to your phone. And works as some kind of handsfree or remote.
Something similar to sony ericssons liveview.
But the i'm watch is a watch that works "on its own". The liveview even requires to be connected to a phone to show the time. And it doesn't display either the content of mail or messages. Besides that there are some serious connection problems with liveview and phones from other manufacturers than sony.
I happen to own a liveview which works about 50% of the time you try to use it. Lets hope the i'm watch does a better job!

I've have a liveview and disappointed by it's functionality based on past products from SE. I loved the concept but like others, the LV only connects like 70% for me and the customization is really not there.
And as for the I'm Watch. I have been following this for about a year. I have been on and off their pre-order list because I cannot see myself be an early adapter of this watch because of my experience with the Liveview lol. Well the price didn't help either.
I've seen the demo on their site and it does look promising. I just got an email today that they are going to launch the watch at CES this year so that should create some media buzz. For the price, I decided to put my funds to a bit better use and back a kickstarter project that will launch a clear/glass touch keyboard and mouse that I hope will be pretty user friendly lol...The kickstarter guy is going to be at CES as well.

Mine arrived 2 hours ago. It's on my skinny (16cm) wrist and just fits without looking too stupid, although none of my mates have seen it yet and I can guarantee they'll tell me....
The price, well, my Rolex cost a bit more and it doesn't tell me the date or light up at night. It only tells me the time when there's enough light to see by. It certainly doesn't tell me when I have a new email.
First impressions.... hmmm, so-so.
It is quite fast to flick through apps. Not greased lightning, not even lightening... just adequately fast. Not frustratingly slow.
Getting it tethered to my Samsung Galaxy Note took a bit of fiddling and I ended up rebooting both devices to accomplish this.
The only way to configure the apps is on their i'm cloud webpage.
This only has the basic apps.
Weather
Twitter (I don't have this)
Facebook (which I f'ing hate, so don't have)
Appointments
Images (Picassa, which I don't have)
Stocks (not interested)
News (not interested)
Email (gmail only)
i'music (10 songs that I either have or am not interested in)
You import your addressbook (no editing available, no pictures) via bluetooth.
You plug the cable in to transfer music and pictures.
You will burst in to tears as you watch your 3Gb (they advertised it as 4Gb) get's eaten up at 1Mb per second.
You'll then start tearing your hair out as you uploaded some songs you didn't want and can't delete them on the device - you have to plug it back in.
There's a few ringtones and notifications to choose from but no custom option.
No custom wallpaper or clock faces.
I've emailed them to see where the Calculator app is, where the games are etc but that was an hour ago so I'll give them a while to respond.
***EDIT***
They have replied very quickly to tell me that I'm stuck with the default apps (grrrr) and that the i'market isn't up yet.
Questions?

Could you snap a few pictures of it? I would love to see how it looks. Maybe a video in the real world..

I've got a 16cm (skinny) wrist, I'll put up a few more for comparison

It pairs with
Android (HTC, Samsung, Motorola, LG, etc)
BlackBerry® (RIM)
iOS® (Apple iPhone®)

I'm looking forward to seeing if it supports SMS notifications once iOS6 gets released (has Bluetooth MAP at last)

is it true that wifi capability has been removed? or can the watch connect to a wifi network without the use of another smartphone?

First real review I've ever read of the I'm Watch anywhere. Thank you! Let us know if there are improvements in the software. It does sound underpowered in terms of memory, and weird that it doesn't show pictures with the address/contacts. What's the point of that pixeldense screen, then. What about finish? Look classy, would you say. How are people reacting to it?
PS. My interest went away with the Wifi, although at least it does have vibration alerts, which the Motoactv doesn't DS.

There have been a couple of firmware updates but no noticeable changes.
The watch itself performs fine, not slow really - just not zippy.
The screen looks good, I uploaded a couple of pictures and it zooms in and out without lagging.
A photo of the contact popping up when the phone rings should be a compulsory addition to the firmware :-/
I bought the basic black/silver plastic version, it doesn't draw any attention and feels OK.
Vibration alerts? I haven't noticed them....
I have been very concerned with the company - they haven't responded to any contact for weeks and a few people on G+ haven't received their watches yet.

I received my IM watch last week.
I have noticed the following:
It hates recconecting to my galaxy note when it goes out of range
Even with bluetooth keep alive, it likes to disconnect randomly
My bluetooth speakerphone ont he phone is nearly unsuable, either choppy, or not being able to hear anything on the watch.
The apps are craptastic and unusable (for example facebook updates once a day)
It REALLY needs companion software that runs on the phone. Actually, it really needs someone to hack the firmware so it can have custom applications developed for it, the update process is quite easy (upload a rom to the update folder and reboot) and it seems to have something similiar to CW recovery on it.)
It REALLY REALLY feels like an unfinished product, especially considering their firmware versions is 0.5.0. I have a support call arranged with them tomorrow, im not holding my breath.
What are other peoples experiences with the speakerphone? If the apps dont work well (apart from the weather) it would be nice to at least get the speakerphone to work correctly.

My 6 month impressions/review - long

I am very unhappy with the latest (1.40) ROM update and this has finally pushed me to this post. I thought I would provide some general thoughts/comments after about 6 months of use. I keep hoping and praying that each ROM release will actually fix some of the devices more serious issues but it never seems to happen. Certain things actually get worse through the updates.
Overall the level of integration and the sheer amount of things our device accomplishes is staggering. However, the reliability and robustness is terrible, about as good as an "alpha" release, but certainly not a production device. You may argue that I should be happy with what I have and I guess I am because I keep carrying my PDA2K. I love not having to carry so many devices but almost always feel like I have the worst of each. My "relationship" with my device is absolutely love/hate.
As background I use my device as a phone, camera, video camera, mp3 player, movie watching, internet, e-mail, gps/navigation, games, Metro subway maps, weather, pdf reading and of course all the std. windows goodies like Excel, Calendar, Contacts, etc. However, the device performs most all of these functions poorly. As a small bit of background I am not a programmer nor hardcore techie but do consider myself a power user and am comfortable with registry editing, ROM upgrading and most features/functions of all of the standard software. I do also install a fair amount of 3rd party applications. I do not see how you can get by without doing this. I use the device for work as a sales professional and also for personal use.
The phone is much less robust and reliable than almost all cell phones I have previously owned, just buggy in general, often not functioning despite a good signal and often will not connect nor hang up properly. The camera is plain terrible, nowhere even close to a decent 1MP camera, good only for a small caller ID photo taken in perfect lighting conditions. Networking in general is almost unusable: Bluetooth during navigation always disconnects when a call comes in, WiFi will almost never start with out a soft reset, and sometimes the same with GPRS. General system stability/robustness: terrible! With a device such as this it should not be possible to have spontaneous hard resets where you loose ALL data. I have them fairly often (without Sprite, I would truly throw my device away). I have also had spontaneous loss of SD card data. MS Voice Command is fantastic, except the first use of every day always requires the name to be repeated twice. The built in e-mail software is really poor, the invisible items that show up in various mail folders which require a complete cleaning out of all mailboxes to fix is beyond annoying. The long 20 second or so delay when opening the Calendar to show days with appointments really causes me delays at the most inopportune times. I suppose I could go on and on but I will wrap up this summary/gripe session
Again, the level of raw capability, variety of useful programs and integration is truly amazing. The speed when operating well is fine. However I am often nearly crippled by hard resets, poor phone, WiFi, GPRS and Bluetooth, usability and robustness and the need for soft resets. I guess this is the price one pays for being on the cutting edge, but again I can not help but feel this device is nowhere close to the reliability and performance any reasonable user would expect. From spending a lot of time on this board and other similar ones I expect to hear some quite similar echoes of my thoughts.
I do eagerly look forward to some similar comments (or different), fixes, general experiences or suggestions from the community.
Well put, some of the issues I have, some not.
Lets have a look at the hardware.
Well the case is metal which is great as it can take some punishment however the Keyboard, well.....
My Keyboard has a life of its own, I have the device in my hand and talk on the phone and it drops down. I pull the device out of my pocket and it comes out first screen then keyboard. I never use the keyboard as me fingers are to big so given a choice I would not have it.
If you hold the screen in one hand and the back plate in the other you can turrn the whole thing a good 3mm as its so loose. You can even lift the screen up away form the Keyboard at the bottom of the device and stick a piece of carboard into as a form of a break to stop it dropping.
Sound of calls is bad, tiny and to low.
Yup its a love/hate relationship and I love to hate the thing.
I too look forwared to a device that has camera which is useful (I still carry around a small 5 meg sony).
The only thing I feel that is realy good about owning a BA is this board, if I had not come here I would still have a german CE and be reseting the bugger every day.
love it
Probably, I am cheap and easily pleased.
I bought my IIs almost the same time with yours. I too have updated my ROM to 1.40 (stockROM 1.4Asia). Only the barest software I need are installed to maintain stability: KBattery, psShutXp, AgileMobile, Skype, VCard, Pcoket TV, GSPlayer, and Avantgo. For games, I only installed Smartfall, Chess, and BF Mines - not much of a gamer. IIs is too expensive for me to destroy its button playing games.
I love it very much except for some performance hiccups like restarting by itself. However, this only happens when I am using skype or agilemobile for sometime. Hard Reset rarely happens. in six months, I only remember it to happen to me once and I could not remember what I did then.
I love it because I could check my email whereever I am either thru WIFI or GPRS. In fact, I use to check my email thru XDAIIs rather than waiting for my PC to start in the morning before leaving the house. With so many "leaking" free WIFI around, no phone should be without.
I f---kng HATE the keyboard. A week after I bought mine it was already broken. Yes, it will open on its own. It was repaired though free of charge by Brightpoint Philippines. Now, I barely open it because constructionwise, it is so flimsy and I know will easily be broken again. Now, I know why they remove the keyboard in the IIi.
Will buy it again. YES, It is so neat and convenient that I could do emailing, IM and chat on the go. Of course, it is a great electronic photo album to show my family pictures to friends with MP3 background playing.
Before this phone, I was using NOKIA 9210 Communicator. It was a great phone during its time. WHAT I WOULD REALLY WANT NOW IS A NOKIA COMMUNICATOR 9500 RUNNING WM Ver.5. DREAMING....
So you guys say that the keyboard is a piece of s**t?
I'm asking because I'm going to buy BA or Nokias 9500. And if the keyboard sucks a** i'm not gonna buy BA, because I need the keyboard because I do lot of work in MSN and in IRC. So the phone must be capable to these specific applications. I know that Nokia 9500 is...
When I was still using my old trusty Nokia 9210, I sent literally hundreds of text messages per day. I love its built in keyboard. It was a breeze typing text in that old phone. I could even schedule sending text messages - what a neat feature.
The tiny keyboard of IIs is hard to use. Even painful to the fingers after long use. Now I sent few text messages because it is very hard to do so with the tiny keyboard (II's rehabilatated me, I am NOT text addict anymore). The tiny soft keyboard using the stylus is just as difficult to use.
If you will do lots of typing, I recommend you buy one of those external keyboards. Although, personally, I hate carrying extras like that. I dont want to look like Inspector Gadget carrrying with me that external keyboard. My Bluetooth suffered same fate. I dont carry it anymore. Too troublesome carrying two gadgets.
I use my IIs mainly as a communicating device (which should be) so the killer applications for me are:
Agile Mobile for IM like ICQ, MSN, AOL and yes YAHOO.
Skype for VOIP (yes, it works for me just dont expect quality calls. It's free who am I to complain)
AgileMobile will run on both Nokia 9500 and IIs BUT the SKYPE will not.
That is the deal breaker for me why I decided to go for the XDA path. Every one and then, I still do glancing look at that Nokia 9500 though.
If you will go for the XDA path and cannot wait anymore, get the IIi. The keyboard really sucks. Hard to use and easy to get loose.
If you go for Nokia path, please lend it to me sometime (hehehehe)

Well that's the thing...those are the programs I would also use plus I need an IRC client (Nokia has s2putty which is great), so this is going to be a real hard decision.
It seems in a operating system level, Windows/qtek9090 kicks Symbian80/Nokia9500 ass, because Nokia has a pretty slow processor and Symbian80 is a little bit greedy, but so is windows.
Nokias online time should be better than Qteks so that's important fact (going to use Wlan a lot). Nokia also has much better keyboard if I have read reviews right.
But...Qtek/WM2k3 has a lot more apps if I'm right and it's hardware is better than Nokias.
But the bigges issues are still on the fact that how does the device handle Instant Messaging and IRC environments. In IRC i'm in a few VERY active channels so would like to know how well does the BA handle IRC messaging, viewing etc....
Is the keyboard slider going to loose very easily? I have read that in some models it's big issue? Or is this only problem with branded phones(i mean like T-mo etc)? Qtek 9090 is the only one which they sell here in Finland.
xcalibur, yeah sure i'll borrow you the 9500, if you come to visit Finland someday =)
The above fact is the only thing keeping me away from ordering BA...
I don't want to keep on ranting against IIs.
Yes, the keyboard will easily get loose. We have here two units and it is the same. I talked to the Brightpoint service people, they say almost all IIs they repaired is about the loose keyboard.
And yaiks, I noticed now that my IIs keyboard is misaligned by a millimeter or two. I cant stop looking at it now. I hate it.
Consider also after sales service of XDA there in Finland. These things do break down. I am sure Nokia will have superb service there in Finland as they have already excellent service here in Philippines. In fairness, Brightpoint too has good service here though their location is not so good.
My keyboard experience
I have had no problems with my keyboard. I like it, use it and it has not developed any problem with the keys themselves nor the sliding mechanism. Perhaps you guys talking all about Nokia vs HTC could move that topic to a separate thread?
Keyboard's great! However, other than for impressing your friends this phone is horribly unreliable. Also, windows is not as polished as Symbian. You will find yourself installing so many 3rd party apps (which make an already unstable handset even less stable) just to perform basic phone functions.
In my opinion, XDA IIs is truely an ingenius device. However, Ias much as I hate to agree with most of you, I share the same sentiments of hating/loving it.
I really dislike the part whereby I receive/dial a call and no sound comes out of it. Also when my IIs hang the moment I exit from Bejeweled 2. I dont use a bluetooth headset, so the bluetooth bit doesnt affect me so much. I also detest the so very prominent gap between my keyboard and screen.
However, on the other hand, my IIs had helped me in so much many other ways, so much so its advantages exceeds its disadvantages. Despite the small keyboard, it had been extremely useful, and having compared with the onscreen keyboard and Transcriber, I personally found that it is so much faster and efficient to key text with the keyboard. Despite haing mid-sized fingers, with good practice, keying in text can be so much of a breeze. I especially liked its soft touch and blue iluminous glow.
Also, the calander feature of Microsoft CE is great. With appropriate 3rd party software, and its extremely ease/stability to sync with Outlook, my contacts and appointments are always at my fingertips. Tho the ringer is quite soft, I have no problems with it as I have always been using traditional ringing ringtones, which are much louder than fanciful mp3 music. Besides, I can see that O2 is doing its fair share by providing support thru O2 connect as well as the after sales service. O2 plus beta had been a great software. I had used it to replace phone alarm and pocket plus. I especially liked it phone profile feature and the part whereby my IIs vibrate upon receipt of call response. I no longer have to hold my device against my ears waiting for the other party to pick up the call.
Another comment is that the screen is clear and even using 10% backlight, I can view the screen to great details, even under sunlight conditions. The extra 4 hardware buttons for today, messaging, IE and OK had been great and it had aid me in single-handed operations with my device.
Overall, all I can say is, its been a great device. You choose to hate / like it. Cheers. Just my two cents worth...
I also came to the XDA series from the Nokia Communicators and have always been looking for a communicator with MS OS.
Can't wait for the Universal
a wonderful use of keyboard! + comments abt XDA IIs overall
hi all,
i have a very very good argument in favour of the keyboard on XDA iis and a big -ve for the absence of it in XDA IIi:
i live in india where the roads at times tend to be a bit bumpy. on such roads keying in with a stylus becomes frustrating! (those who have tried it will know). it is on these roads that u appreciate the inbuilt key board the max.
2ndly, by the grace of GOD, till date i have had NO SOUND issues with my XDA IIs.... so no probs about that..
with 1.40 update i have seen that wifi wont connect usually without a soft reset but thats not very bugging! also there is some camera application brightness control bug and thats also ignorable.
But overall i think that XDA IIs is overall a very good buy... better than XDA IIi and Mini.... NOKIA is ****ty in front of this and looks more of a brick!
i suggest you all not to load any 3rd party apps for password lock and dialler except smart dialling included in mini rom. and must haves are pocket plus, pocket informant, pocket music, skype, phonealarm, alarmtoday and 1-calc. dont forget norton anti-virus and sprite backup as the very very very imp. 1st loads.
All the best to XDA lovers... LONG LIVE XDA IIs... Doom to Nokia!
At one point I used to carry an iPAQ 3870, a mobile phone and a collapsible keyboard. With my suit on, some people thought I was a bodyguard due to my swollen breast pockets. I also also had a Navigator 3000 GPS sleeve and the WiFi CF card.
The iPAQ made me love the Pocket PC. However carrying two or more devices was cumbersome.
I then discovered the Blackberry. Look mum, no wires. Over the air synchronization using the GPRS network was great. The keyboard is also excellent. No GPS and a lack of good application was a minus. Furthermore any interesting application would be pricey.
… but I still missed the Pocket PC.
Then came the Blackberry Connect embedded in the Blue Angel. That is the best of both worlds. My dream was to have a Pocket PC with push email and WiFi with an embedded keyboard.
The cherry on the cake came with Skype. I use desktop Skype a lot and I love it. As I am an international self-employed consultant, my cellphone bills amount to at least £300.00 ($550.00) a month. Skype on the BA will save me money but I need to find a good noise cancellation headset. So what if the sound quality is not that good, my customers would expect that from a roaming mobile phone anyway.
As for the camera, at its current resolution it is a gimmick. I would rather have a lighter BA with no camera. My 5.1 Mega Pixel camera will have to stay.
I agree with everyone that says the keyboard has a bad build. The MDA III and the XDA IIs I have seen at the T-Mobile and O2 shops had the keyboard sliding out on its own as soon as I picked up the device. I had already arrived to the conclusion that the keyboard will break down even before reading this thread.
I know that I will miss the stability of the Blackberry software but the advantages I get from the BA far outweigh the disadvantages.
I don’t thing anyone of us on this board will ever find a device that is perfect in every aspect. This is technology.
I will be moving from the Blackberry to the BA XDA IIs this weekend and I am sure that most if not all on this board will encourage me.
i agree with you
hey,
i agree with you fully... no technology can be perfect... but still XDA IIs is the best bet!
just a doubt: how did u manage to get a BA with blackberry connect? any software for that available for asian users too?

The T-Mobile MDA III supports Blackberry Connects. The XDA IIs should support it soon. I will be using the XDA IIs but I am hopping to use the MDA III software.
hoping 4 the best!
i am just hoping that XDA IIs supports it soon!
the earlier the better!
You have two choices...
1. Purchase an old used XDAII and upgrade it to WM5.0. Very stable and flawless communications and Bluetooth.
2. Wait for the new WM5.0 devices this summer.
(my 2 cents)
I fully agree with the love/ hate, as per others - I to have experianced neumerous resets, lock ups no sound etc. after two weeks I returned it to the shop and swapped my XDAIIs for another one (it was clearly faulty) - loaded it up with exactly the same applications as the previous one and since then I have only experianced the no sound issue twice in the last month, my unit runs on the "stock" O2 firmware loaded in using Corporate mode. I love the flexibility of the device and my ipaq-4700 is now rarley used as the XDA does everything I need of it with the addition of the phone functionality - great idea and concept, but I still feel it is nowhere near the level of maturity that it should be - Mike
Hi guys,
could you guys tell me where can I download for the latest firmware for my O2 XDA IIs that are going around currently? and is it true that updating firmware will results data losts ? thank you
A hard reset will allways result in data loss, but if you back it all up onto the SD card you should be able to return the unit to the same condition - note I say "should" its probably wise to re-install the lot from scratch to gain the true performance, as yet I have not tried the 1.140 ROM but I am tempted - you don't state whice service provider you are with - try their web site for a download to see if you are upto date - my philosopy is that the service provider should provide a functional device, in pratice the HTC unit is a bit hit and miss - but if you load up anything other than official firmware then taking it back and complaining is out of the window - I am on my second handset from O2 and this apears to work OK - at least it does for the demands I make of it, this includes running bespoke "home" created software scripted using Labview and it performs quite well - mike

Samsung HM5000 bluetooth handset is great

I bought the HM5000 Samsung bluetooth handset last week and I have to say its great. For those moments when you want to make or answer a call without holding a phone to your ear. You can even surf or doodle while your on the phone.

I do not phone often but I do not like to put that big G.N. to my ear
Well damn.
This would make using the Tab 7.7 as a phone actually feasible.
I so want numerous devices in a personal network. If text messages could be 'pushed' to a different device over bluetooth, I would use the 7.7 as my primary 'hub' with all these devices connected to one another. The smaller device would be pocketable and only be to reply to messages when pulling out the tablet wouldn't prove to me useful. I've already got an MBW-150 for caller ID, media controls and notifications.
Dear god the possibilities.

You, must tell me how everything goes and if you feel it worth it.
When I first read that the 7.7 would be able to be used as a phone, I would have bought it right then and there. But of course, it wasn't available.
Have you used it as a phone for calling/texting yet?
And don't forget that g note have s pen....
And as man-bags become more socially acceptable, it makes more sense to have the big quad core device in your bag and your designer bluetooth handset in your hand. In fact if you could get a bluetooth handset with a small screen to show sms etc it would be really interesting. ....
Or Galaxy note wifi/bluetooth in your bag controlling your 10 inch tab in your bag...

I've had the 7.7 now for about 5 days, and ever since day 1, I have been totally blown away by how amazing this device is!
It has been my complete replacement for both phone and tablet. The Note was cool and all (I'm selling mine), but honestly, the s-pen was kinda wasted on me (not really the doodling type you see).
Also, as amazing as the Note's screen is for a really big phone, it's just not as functional as I would have hoped in order for it to be a capable substitute for a true tablet, in spite of its resolution. If you're on the go a lot, the ~7 - 8" screen size is about the perfect sweet spot for a truly light-weight heavy hitter in the tablet market IMO.
Now don't get me wrong! I love the Note too! The Note is a fantastic piece of hardware, and once it gets ICS, I bet it is going to be an absolute BEAST of a device. I'm sure that for a lot of people, the Note is/will be the absolute perfect fit for them, and a really good phone/tablet compromise.
For me, the 7.7 with a Bluetooth hands-free and my old SGS2 as a backup for when I'm occasionally "going light", is a better fit overall. For other's that might not be their ideal match. It just depends on the individual.
---------- Post added at 09:22 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:06 AM ----------
Now, here's an idea for next version of the Note:
So, the current generation is the N7000 yeah? So let's call the next iteration the "Note 8," yeah? See what I did there? Clever eh?
So imagine the device being pretty much identical to the GTab 7.7, but rather than include the s-pen in its current form, instead modify the HM-5000 to make it a little sleeker, have the s-pen on one end of it for writing, a 3.5mm headphone jack on the other end of it for earphones, add playback controls for music and media, and a small monochrome OLED display on the front of it for info like caller ID, date/time, and current playing track etc.
Holy crap that would be amazing!!
I can see the desire of wanting to carry around a 7.7 but I need to put my device in my pocket. My Note fits just perfectly in my front pocket. Been carrying it around like that since I got it. I know I could not do that with a 7.7. That's just me though. The Note is the perfect cross sized device for me. Will I still own a tablet. Most likely but I've found when my Note and my Ipad2 are sitting right next to each other I'll go for the Note even when I going to web surf. I just like the size.
Also having the earpiece is critical for me. I'll lose anything bluetooth I carry around. And I don't want to have to worry about where I'm placing two devices I can barely keep track of one.

That's what I love so much about Android. Unlike iStuff, it's not all one-size-fits-all. Our diversity allows for each of us to better find our perfect fit on an individual basis!

Galaxy S2 vs. iPhone 4 vs. LG E900 vs. Lag myth

May I redirect your attention to this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1450019
so you focus the lag on browser performance?
...
a dual core would never be better than a single core device /s
like really? I'm trying very hard to find the metric used besides how a page renders data; which is important, but further drives home the point that dual core processors are better at it.
But curiosity killed me
are you running a stock sgsII rom? with no hacks? And the browser is stock?

Either way though that old LG you have to admit is not lagging at all with a single core snapdragon. And my Titan which still has a single core kicks it's butt royally (The LG and is right on par with the dual core Galaxy S2 and the new iphone 4s).

I don't have that option.
XDA is so full of subfora that it's hard to get exposure on some issues which might concern all the fora. That's why I put it in general and put redirect threads which is a common practice done on XDA.

Malware? lol (little poke on that one)
One thing about windows phone is only 5 or 6 apps can run at a time without being tombstoned and the apps cannot effect the o/s
I don't have an SG S2 but i have seen many android phones with high amounts of lag. (felt like i had sticky fingers at times). How is the battery life on it? (with video background i would imagine not as long as it could be)
My biggest gripe though with android is that it doesn't seem to flow from one thing to another. I've setup exchange on 4 different androids at my work in the last 4 months. one was cupcake ... i know ewe... but in each of these, the setup was in different areas. Sometimes it integrated calendars also after an update which the user did not want. One droid broke its exchange connection with an update until google 4 months later released another fix for it (May have been carrier fault but it still took forever which did not make the admin assistant very happy since she booked appointments for the ceo) Needless to say between that and the lag (which for her was probably 60% the crap apps she downloaded) made that phone the last android she would own. She (even though i tried to talk her toward windows phone) went to an iphone 4S. She is however jealous of all the cool free apps i have (most of the iphone ones were paid) and she misses the free apps she had on android, but for stability she is satisfied.
Oh and my Titan only cost me 1 cent with 2 year agreement. She paid heavily for the iphone. Not sure how much SG2 goes for.

My mistake. They gave that option to recognized developers. For some reason I thought they gave it to everyone.
Rules in the dev sections are more strictly enforced, which is where I spent alot of time between 2009 to August of 2011. I still frequent the dev sections, but am not flashing ROMs twice a week anymore so I spend less time there.
Rule 5 in particular is why you are not supposed to do this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?a=81

Actually he tried to root it with the wrong kernel, but dream on.
And it took the wrong kernel? Surprized. Most phones won't boot in that case. He got lucky.

1) lag - nice myth, keep it flowin ! (not new)
2) battery life on all smart phones in use is not great. (not new)
3) you mean, like keeping 7+ applications going at once, so you can get directions to a customer, while on the phone, sending an email with said directions along with a PDF they need, directly in the email ? (not new, but not all phones can)
4) i'm sorry you had to use cupcake, really, almost as sorry you have to still use exchange (personal, also not new)
5) just more of 4)
6) just putting the blame where it's convenient ? (not new)
7) see 1), good for her finding a platform that fits great and works great (ios is new everyday)
8) the ios apps are much higher quality, and the huge selection means the tagline "there's an app for that" is still true (not new)
8) continued - if she's setting up things for the ceo, i doubt she, or he, cares less about the cost being $.99-3.99 for the vast majority of very well developed, mature, supported applications available on ios.
9) 'only 99cents on contract' - math (not new, but neglected)
i understand everyone likes one platform over another for personal, business, and sometimes financial reasons. that's fine. if you can't see the benefit of using ios for corporate clients, wether or not you like the platform, something is amiss.

1) Not myth... they would pause and churn. Especially when scrolling. (they weren't all the latest and greatest either as they were ones the consumer picked up.)
2) My sisters Android (not sure which one she has as she is out of state but i see her complaining on facebook about it) lasts 4 hours with medium usage. My titan lasts 15 with heavy.
3) for flow i mean. In one verion of the OS - Email is in one place, in another it's somewhere else. Depends if you have touchwiz, sense ect, and what version of android.
4) cupcake was VERY slow. As for exchange... why sorry? Exchange 2010 kicks butt. not our fault google broke active sync for a few months.
5) Was an example of 4
6) result of example and explaining it may have been her fault but android let her do it.
7) Stability was the plus for her. Free apps though was not with IOS.
8) When you lived in a free world, it gets hard to pay for EVERYTHING useful. Also I work for a nonprofit... she doesn't get paid that much.
9)It was really 1 cent on Blackfriday special. not 99 cents. That was meant for those that complain Windows phone is so expensive.

I don't believe this makes sense. How does having a watch with more market saturation prevent you from releasing an update? If I make a wear watch and lets say it takes me 8 hours to build the update, it will still take 8 hours to build wether I sold 4 watches or 10,000,000,000 watches. Its the same watch.
There's a couple more reports of folks with a huge decrease in battery with the new update (more like a sudden drop rather than a mild decrease over a day's time). Maybe they're addressing those.
I wonder if all the other watches have had a full rollout, or if there's been a stop to them.

There has been no update from google itself including the wifi ability with the update, like the zenwatch; it doesn't have a wifi chip, and did get the update.
Okay well the LG Gwatch r did get wifi going, but with support of a developer.
I don't expect much good from this update. Extra functionality; more battery drain. Android wear isn't even near to the stage of being a good stand alone OS(As I see Android wear), to be honost I prefer the Galaxy gear having real android with a theme, instead of an OS which isn't open source.
The only thing I am waiting for is the wrist gestures, as they could be usefull in a car. Yet everyone is exited about the wifi update; I don't know alot of people who are not carrying their phone with them. Other than that function, wifi is quite useless for the moto 360.
@airwa1kin7
Where I think you seem to misunderstand me is this... I have been automating the merging of upstream code changes for 15 years, that's all well and good but rolling releases and making sure that you've done at least a basic set of regression tests before blowing up people's watches is where it gets tricky. If you think it is bad when your Moto battery suffers from a rushed release of Wear companion app, what do you think would happen to your phone if your watch decided to get particularly chatty instead? @Armazia
I'm not even kind of sure how your comment relates to mine at all so I'll go ahead and disregard assuming you quoted the wrong user.
I am using Moto 360 for the past 6 months. There had been instances when very few side loaded watch faces did affect the battery. But now consistently my battery runs through the day without any problem. I am just sharing my experience. Any new OS will have its own issues. Specially in the mobile and wearable front the users have a lot of control over the battery performance. If you use the stock OS and also use certified apps battery life should be good. This is my considered opinion. Thanks

I'm anxious about wifi update for a single reason. Everyday I leave home for work in the morning with both my phone and watch connected via Bluetooth at full charge.
By the end of the day, my watch still has 50% of the battery and my phone struggles to get to the end without recharging, which didn't happen by the time I didn't need an 'always on' Bluetooth.
I expect that, with wifi on the watch I can get trough the day with a single charge on watch AND phone...
That's my thoughts.
Im betting ota will start by sunday

I am excited for this update, well because I like to be running the newest builds possible. My N6 is already on the M preview.
As for why I am excited about the Wifi part of this update. When I am out working in my yard I can leave my phone in the house and listen to music from my watch and still get notifications to my watch from my phone. Secondly at work I am on our Wifi network and I am always carrying my phone when I leave my office to go to a meeting, once we get this update I can leave my phone in my office and still have my watch get notifications.
If we are throwing out guesses for firmware release dates.... I choose June 19th! Let's start a pool shall we?

The only thing I am waiting for is the wrist gestures, as they could be usefull in a car. Yet everyone is exited about the wifi update; I don't know alot of people who are not carrying their phone with them. Other than that function, wifi is quite useless for the moto 360.

Everyone's needs and wants are different. I am really looking forward to practically all of the features introduced in this update but the top 2, by far, are the always-on state for the apps (especially for Google Keep, which to me is a killer application for the Android Wear smartwatches and is the main reason I haven't got a Samsung smartwatch) and the Wi-Fi functionality.
I got the Moto 360 very recently and am selling my LG G Watch (which has long got the update...) especially for the Wi-Fi functionality!
I never leave my home without my phone (I have been using smartphones since YEARS before Jobs and Apple "invented" them... and they are critical "personal assistants" to me, the only thing I ALWAYS have with me) but when at home, being able to leave my smartphone somewhere (for example on its wireless charging pad) and yet still being able to be notified of everything in invaluable to me.
Actually, the only thing still missing which would make it perfect, it's Samsung (and now Apple too) smartwatches' ability to make and answer phone calls. I am confident, since Google's competitors have it, that it's only a question of time before we get that too.
Wifi is neat but the battery hit is gonna be bad..i wouldn't use it.

General 9 Months to go

...before I go back to the next iPhone. After being an Android user for many years I switched to an iPhone 2 years ago and thought I give Android another try with the Pixel 6 but the experience has been more than bad. There is not a single function in this phone that works better than or even close as good as an iPhone. The list of things that don't work or work like crap becomes longer every day. Android 12 just feels like Linux on a phone. The AI chip is a complete joke. Even after 2 months, the phone has not even learned my first name right and consistently suggest Stefan instead of Stephan. Who needs an AI chip if a simple thing like that does not work? Dual sim is a pain in the ass, the iPhone knows that if somebody calls me on one sim cars that's probably the one that I want him back. That's not AI but just common sense. Not on my Pixel, I have to select the sim for every contact and if somebody calls me that is not in my phone and I want to call him back I have to tell what sim card I want to use every time. In what world does somebody call you on your work sim, and then you call him back on your private number, or the other way around? Who needs a stupid robot that answers calls from unknown callers when simple **** like that does not work? And this just goes on from Android Auto that they completely screwed up to Bluetooth that doesn't connect to device that I connected to a million times before. This phone is broken beyond repair, and no patch that Google releases will fix it.
Thanks for stopping by.
Too bad you like to suffer.

I suggest you don't wait 9 months and sell the P6P now while the value is still high. Get the the iphone asap, and be happy.
I never understand why people put themselves through so much heartache/headache when the answer is so simple...in their own use-case of course.
Be quicker to change your name - hope that helps.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out!
Alrighty...

To be fair, Android offers a horse load of features that Apple does not offer - Pixels in es-special. It's easier to navigate and bugfix ten features, than fourty. It's no excuse though that Android 12 - at the moment - has more bugs than should be.

You need to ("can") manually modify the pronunciation of your name in Google Assistant settings.
Call up Google Assistant
Tap the Settings button from the bottom menu.
Scroll down and tap “Basic Info” then select “Nickname.”
Tap “Play” to hear Google Assistant’s current pronunciation.
To change it using your voice, select “Record your own.
Does Apple do this automatically? That would be interesting to know. My best guess is, if Siri pronounces it the way you want, it's because that's the only way she knows how to pronounce it - and all the "Stefans" would probably flame Apple now.

Instead of opting in for a "real" active dual-sim approach, Google went the hybrid/passive ESIM approach, meaning there is only ever one sim active, the other one is in constant passive, just "listening" in. That's the "inferior" approach. Plus the handling of calls is not done properly, as you explained. That's certainly an area where Google should improve.

Most people I know use a work phone for work, meaning - imho - that the majority of users in total will not use dual sim. That's probably why this is not a huge priority for Google.
Please don't go down the path "oh, this doesn't work - HOW DARE THAT THING OVER THERE EXISTS" - Google is a ginormous company and I am kind of glad that they are working on several projects at once, and not spending all their time "refining" one feature. Of course that's no excuse for them releasing a buggy mess.

Are you using the version with cable or wireless? Cable seems to work so-so, wireless seems to be messed up. Since Samsung users are also affected by this, that's probably an Android 12 bug, not an "exclusive" Pixel 6 problem - of course that helps you very little.

Which kind of devices can't you pair? I haven't got that problem yet. There were some people here on XDA that reported problems with external DACs & specialized hearing aids - beyond that, not so much, at least not to my knowledge.

Seriously?
Since all the issues you reported are purely Software, of course Google can fix that. So it's not broken beyond repair. I know that you probably exaggerated here, but still, wording. Wording.
For what it's worth (yet again), for the past two months plus that I've had my Pixel 6 Pro, I haven't had any problems with Android Auto. I've been using Android Auto for four years now and I've rarely had any problem, in the 3-4 cars of all different makes and models I've used it in (at least 1-2 were rentals). I know I've been lucky, as some car/head unit OEMs don't implement Android Auto the same way, or at the same quality.
Whenever I've started having problems with a wired Android Auto connection dropping occasionally (I haven't had any head units that support wireless AA), a change to a fresh quality (OEM or Anker) cable has always done the trick.
This looks like a cry for attention. If you really hate the phone that much, return it and buy what you want. There is no need to moan about it on a forum.

We're you beaten as a child? This sounds like a rant from a 5 year old. This is a forum, not Dr. Phil. If you don't like it, sell it. Coming to XDA to complain about how much you dislike a phone is as arbitrary as driving in the fast lane. No one will like you...
Mods, close this thread. I'm reporting it.
The fact you came on here to post your need for attention says it all really. Don't forget to hit up any groups on TG your in also as i'm sure they will all want to know how upset you are with a phone that you'd rather cry about with your little hissy fit than actually just go and change which *anyone with common sense* would do. Before the *fanboi* word gets thrown anywhere this is my first Pixel, had it a few weeks and really Im already bored. Not by the device itself though just the small majority whinning and throwing their toys out of the pram. I really do hope you have a better experience with an Apple though truly.
Buck up little camper, put your big boy boots on and move on...

Best way to close this thread is to starve it. Enough feeding let's move on.
Just dripping fresh blood on the vampire's grave...
OP, you're a glutton for dysfunctional UIs.
Try a Samsung, but none of the current ones
Sammy's only slightly dysfunctional but can be reeducated
iPhones, yes well... no SD card slot or reasonably price memory, parts, etc. Who gets all that money? It sure isn't the slave labor assemblers.
