[Q] I'm going to be switching from an iphone....Will the nexus/android do this... - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey guys,
I have finally decided to make the switch to Android with this phone, however I do have a question I was hoping to answer before I switch...
One of the features I missed on my Iphone was being able to turn on my phone and have the homescreen display my outlook calendar and to do list(windows phone). I have tried doing some research and some hands on the Verizon store so I know about widgets...although the ones on the droidx I played with were very small.
So my question is...can I set my homescreen to give me half the screen worth of outlook events/tasks and then move everything else to other pages? Sorry if this is a repeat/stupid question but I appreciate the help!

The calendar app has a widget which will show your calendar apps, you can sync to outlook via various means including exchange activesync for your e-mail.

You also can download a app like Jorte it has several different widgets sizes like. 1/4, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4 of the screen size.

I use Launcher Pro Plus. Great widgets (calendar, agenda, facebook, tweeter, etc). I hope app will get updated for ICS

Also the CalenGoo app has tonnes of different size widgets for all your needs!

this looks like it will work great!
soon as I switch there will be no more excuses why I forgot to do something!

you can also install widget locker and display all of this on your lock screen (the initial screen you see when you turn the screen on)

Haha as you see there are many ways to do things on Android. +1 for Possibility.

you can do almost anything on android. super customizable! That's the beauty of Android.

Jorte can do this

There is also an app called Pure that is a highly customizable widget for your ToDo app of choice and Calendar, and looks much better IMHO. Jorte is the best calendar I've seen and that's what I use as an app, but with Pure you can skin the widget (I like highly transparent) and set all sorts of options so it looks perfect on the home screen...
So yes, the beauty of Android is you have TONS of options to do what you are looking for... Granted I haven't used an iPhone before, but I venture to guess you'll have many more options than you have now.

[Q] What widgets keep you going?

Alright, this is random and totally self-serving, but I want to know which widgets people are finding good use for. I personally use almost all of the HTC settings widgets, Gtasks, CalWidget, LED Light, Brightness settings, and SetCPU, but I'm looking for other options with which to populate my screens. So what do YOU like on your home screens?

While I've gotten used to not using many widgets with cm6, the ones I definitely miss (or have when I'm on baked snack) is led light, the messenger widget, and mail widget. Other than those, that's about it. I hate clutter so to me, the less the better.
I have a total of three widgets running. Pure calendar, and pure grid calendar, which are both synced to my exchange calendar, my google calendar, my fb calendar, and my toodledo task list. And beautiful widgets for clock and weather. Sometimes if my sdcard is acting up, I'll also load sdmount.

[Q] Install HTC Sense apps on CM6?

I tried out CM6 today, and there are some things I absolutely LOVE about it. It's VERY responsive, more so than any other ROM I've tried. I love the launcher and the transparency to the wallpaper when you're scrolling though your apps. And I love the 3d gallery.
There are some dealbreakers for me though.... I don't like:
1- The camera app, I much prefer the HTC once.
2- The contacts list, I loved he way the stock one synced w/facebook updates and user pictures.
3- The calendar, which again synced with dates from facebook (birthdays, events, etc).
Are there apks that I can download to replace the ones in cm6 with? Or will I have to use a Sense ROM to get those?
No. It won't happen. If you want Sense, go to Sense. Otherwise, just look for alternative apps on the Market.
short answer, no
long answer;
sense widgets only work with the sense launcher. download official facebook app to sync with cyanogenmod or syncmypix. for the calendar, use ebobirthday to grab facebook birth days then sync to gmail and in gmail under calendar on the left at the bottom click "other calendars" then add "browse interesting calendars", then more tab, then subscribe to "Contacts' birthdays and events" as for the camera, someone made progress getting it working on the n1 but have not seen anyone trying to get it working on evo. right now, it is still a bit ugly and some things do not work, but they will soon enough. when cyanogen and the rest of the team are done, you will be able to do way more with their camera than you every could with the stock on. infact you already can with a large assortment of codecs and fine tuning options. hope this helped
You could try LauncherPro Plus. It won't give you a camera app, but it has an ever-increasing assortment of Sense-like widgets.
@DomSim: Thanks for the long answer =] I though from reading another thread that CM6 didn't link the contacts w/facebook, but you're telling me otherwise, so I will give that a try (I'm flashing CM6 again as I post). Honestly, the larger font on the contact list still bothers me, I wish it were smaller =[ And thanks for the info on getting the calendar sync, I don't think I EVER would have figured that out, hahaha!
@Noxious Ninja: Thanks for the suggestion. I will give it a whirl once I'm flashed back on CM6. =]
One more thing I missed: The stock Sense clock/w weather! I love that clock =[ But I actually like the clock from CM6's lock screen better. Is there a widget for that?

[Q] 4x1 calendar widget

I've had my Desire for some time already and although I love it there's something that really bothers me and it's the 4x1 calendar widget. I find it the best for the main home screen but it's just useless. Most of the time it doesn't show the event that should be showing and it shows something later in time (it doesn't confuse the date, it just misses what's in between).
I've managed to get it back to normal several times after restarting the phone and/or resetting the application but it either takes very long or I can't remember the sequence of things to do to make it work again. It's a pain in the ass.
I've seen other open threads about problems with that widget but most of them are quite old and without real solutions. Of the proposed alternatives I found all of them quite ugly, frankly.
Is there a solution to the built-in problem or a widget that looks similar?

I have just jumped ship from Smooth Calendar to Small Agenda Widget. In 4x1 it just beats Smooth by showing 4 lines not 3.
Jorte has every size of widget you can imagine.
Thanks, guys! I think I'll go for Smooth Calendar. With the HTC-style mod that is around there it looks quite similar to the default one and reasonably decent-looking. Let's see if HTC brings something out to improve it.

Decent Jelly Bean Tablet Calendar App

Hi,
Having taken delivery of my new Nexus 7 yesterday, I'm going through that stage if loading up apps I was used to on my Defy. I was immediately impressed by the new look of the calendar, but not happy with the lack of widgets, so thought I'd load up Business Calendar, as it had served me well, but it would seem that it doesn't like tablets, all but the ICON + x EVENTS widget look terrible stretched on a big screen.
Can anyone recommend a decent calendar app with the functionality of Business Calendar, but great HD widgets, including agenda, weekly, monthly etc... Preferably with ability to change size of fonts etc...

CalenGoo is very nice - like the color coding of multiple calendars and is easy to read.

aCalendar with Android Pro Widgets...or just use business calendar with APW
Touch calendar, it's free.
Tapatalking from my Paranoid Android Nexus 7
I have tried a few, but still sticking with "Pure Calendar".
Seems the best one with modest amount of options/settings.
On the plus side, the widget size of Pure Calendar is excellent on the N7.
Try wizz widgets. It has agenda and month view widgets. You can even try they provide version for more features.

[Q] Replacement for LG Calendar Widget?

Hey all. I want to switch to using Nova, but I love the stock calendar widget. Is there anything like it that I can instal? I love how it can show the month view with events on the home screen.

Thanks for the suggestion, however that one looks NOTHING like the stock LG calendar widget. I suffer from the same experience as the OP (i want to use Apex Launcher), but I love the LG calendar widget too much to switch. I haven't found anything yet that compares with the same clarity.

Hey there! I've been using AgendaWidgets for a few years and I've never changed to any other calendar. There's also a plus version which I've purchased but maybe first try the free version first You can select the calendar to sync with your Facebook , too ( if you are on FB ). It also has different themes which you can choose from. I've chosen this transparent theme

Not sure if this satisfies your need for "stock" calendar feel, but Event Flow Calendar Widget is the best one I've found when it comes to having a good balance between simplicity, looks & customizability. Give it a try
Not like stock, but Sunrise?
Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
I'm hoping for a widget that shows me a calendar view, with the actual events displayed with text on each day (not just lines or dots). Any one seen that outside of our stock app?:
Gonna give Sol Calendar a shot. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.daum.android.solcalendar&hl=en
Try Pure Grid calendar widget, I love it since many years:

Try this one. Its not bad.
