[DEV]Stock Headset behavior to be fixed - HD2 Android NAND Development

Hello,
So we're definitly getting there : more and more fixes for our Android ROMS on the HD2. Major bugs are fewer every month and I'm sure we'll reach a very very close-to-native feel in a matter of months.
Still, some bugs seem resistant or maybe, not looked into. That's the case for the stock headset behavior.
Support for the stock headset has been released a few months are the first Nand Android ROMS back in January but was never really improved. And to be completely honest, it never really worked.
Here is the buggy behavior
Musing listening :
When plugged in, the headset will behave properly : back, pause/play, next buttons respond quite well. However after a while (around a minute of music playback I would say but I guess it could be timed more precisely), they don't. Pausing or skipping to the next song might work but most of the time, it would ask several attempts (from two to ten or more !).
The back button never works : either it does not respond at all, either it behaves as a forward song, skipping to the next song.
You have to actually interact with the player with the touchscreen to restore headset responsiveness. Until it breaks again a minute later.
Call answering :
This is a field I didn't experiment much : as answering a call with the headset is a gamble, I tend to quickly disconnect the headset in order to respond. If not, answering with the Play/pause button might not work or might ask for way too many attempts. If I succeed to answer, the person will generally tell me that he or she can't hear me well. Mic issue ?
This happens with every ROM out there, with every kernel, with every Music player, stock or third-party.
I don't have my HD2 with me now (back to HTC for a while) so I can't provide logcat but I'm sure there are other music listeners out there who will help out.
I don't know if it's kernel related or not but I would assume it won't be that hard to fix...we just need someone who look into this.
I'll try to keep the OP updated with new information as it comes out...

I have a blackberry headset that works great. No such problems with pausing and resuming music or even answering calls for hours on end, with long holding to voice dial.
On cm7 roms you can long hold volume up with screen off to skip songs, no problems here, perhaps try another headset.

It seems it works fine with other headset yes but it means it's really not a big issue to fix for users who uses the stock headset...

As for the music, i mainly use the volume rockers on device for volume + (next/prev), the play/pause button does work when songs are playing but after pausing and idling for sometime, the device goes to sleep and the key does nothing (This might be actual behavior ? as the kernel goes into suspend, needs to be checked on a htc with native android)
The call behaviour is true as per your explanation. The mic inuse when wired headsets are plugged is of the device and not of the headset, i have verified this by placing the device away with headset plugged in and gradually bringing it close during a call.

I had recently bought the stock original headset. working very well. i use poweramp. play / pause ffw rwd are all working even when screen is off.
i can answer calls with the call button and the caller can hear me clearly.
maybe another rom or another headset can bring in some varied results.

Then it must be hardware related. I have an EU HD2 and I swear it doesn't work with any rom (Sense/ASOP-CM7/MIUI), any kernel, any player.

What I think would be great is if someone could get it to work perfectly with a set of iphone headphones. EVERYONE makes a nice set of headphones for that dang phone and their cheep
Sent from my HTC Runnymede using XDA App

+1 for the idea !

well..with rafpigna/hieros kernel the headset works almost 100%.
I mean:
when phone is on, everything works 100%
when it is sleeping but music is playong, it works 100%
when radio is playing and the phone is sleeping: I can switch channels and stop it but then I cannot do anything.
with tytungs kernel I could not do anything when the screen was off and the phone was sleeping.
(in the same ROM of course)
so it is bug in kernel drivers

Since you mentioned that, mine is T-Mobile. Might be hardware related.

how about trying Tytung 12.4 v3 kernel?
how about reading the low speakers/Mic gain fix thread?
it's fixed i think, i don't have these issues after installing typhoo' cm7 build with this kernel...

problems with AVRCP on the TP2 using BT stereo headset!

has anyone had the same problem as I have with bluetooth stereo headsets?
when I pair up my device with the headsets and start listening to musich on windows media everything ist just fine, the problem is when I pause the music while the phone is in standby mode, when I press play again, nothing happens, it works again after I press the power button ..this is annoying, normally this shouldn't be happening....does anybody know what the problem is??? thanx in advance!
The bt3030, is that the dogtag one? Because I use that one without the problem you describe with my Dutch stock TP2.
yes thats the same one....the dogtag one... but I also have the BT620s also from jabra...and it has the same problem...if I leave the phone for longer than 5 seconds in pause it wont play again after I hit the play button...when I hit the power button then it will automatically start playing again...but its annoying to have to hit the standby button so it recognizes the phone again...are you using WM player or another player? or are you using the manila player?
Turns out I have the same problem...
Just tested it, and you are right! If you wait a couple of seconds it won't resume playing (using wmp). I don't have a clue about why though. I was already quite happy it worked (kinda) as on my HTC Elf avrcp didn't work most of the time and A2DP was also very patchy. Looks like HTC needs to look into their BT programming.
I've used Jabra with 3 devices already, and its the first time I experience this problem and its REALLy annoying cause you have to take the phone out of your pocket in order to turn on the screen so it resumes the music... it must be a problem with the bluetooth stack...but I have no idea about that..hopefully more people experience this problem and somebody finds a solution...
Another BT problem
But it should probably in a different thread. I sometimes experience a lapse in the BT connection: the headset and phone temporarily become disconnecrted so the audio is rerouted through the phone's speakers, which is quite embarrassing in a quiet train or library! The connection often is re-established after a few moments. Have you experienced this kind of behaviour?
yes I also have...but this usually happens when your listening the to music and receive a call...so the music is automatically silenced, then when you hang up the music plays again but it comes out through the speakers.....but only after calls....and only sometimes...yes its quite embarrasing, but I guess it can't work perfectly....i think the play button problem is worse...and I can't find anything in other threads....apparently we're the only ones that have this problem, or that have noticed it...maybe we should look in the TOUCH HD thread, or the diamond II threads....

I can assure you that TP2 is NOT alone. It's very common ONLY for HTC device. I have the same problem w/ ATT Tilt (HTC Kaiser) and Sony X1 (tested w/ MANY A2DP devices) and such problem was not happen to my Asus P525 and Eten M600. And I think I saw posts for the same problem for HD, TP1 and Diadmond too

[Q] pandora keeps skipping to next song only over bluetooth

im using hellkat the 2/23/14 build (I have t-mobile galaxy s2)...its a great ROM everything seems to be working fine except for streaming pandora via bluetooth.
When i start pandora (using version 5)...the music plays fine no issues. But when I turn on BT to stream to car or any other device the music just keeps skipping to next track (skips after attempting to play the current selection for about 10 secs....i say attempting because it stays on the current track attempts to play it but i dont hear anything and neither the progress_bar for song nor timer move).
Before Hellkat I was using BeanStalk 4.4.2 and pandora was streaming fine over BT.
Things I have tried to fix this none of these worked:
1. Turning off wifi then streaming
2. Went in to bluetooth setting > 'Visibility Timeout' > set to 'never'
3. Tried un-installing pandora and reinstalling.
4. Went into recovery mode, wiped cache/ delvik cache
I believe this is not a bluetooth issue because I can stream youtube audio over BT from my phone to external speakers/laptop/car and that works fine.
Is there a fix for this issue that I just can not find or is this known 'issue'? Any suggestions for a fix?
Thanks
looks like this is possibly a known issue per:

Same problem here. I decided to switch over to Dirty Unicorn and everything works fine. Better battery life too. Unfortunately I could not post in the developer's thread to inform them of the problem.
similar behavior from other streaming audio apps
Have similar behavior on other streaming apps:
Spotify:
as soon as BT is turned on and connection is established there is no sound from phone or device the music is being streamed to. But the track does not keep skipping to next one like in pandora...its just silence.
if i turn BT off (on other device) while the song is 'playing' seems like the song status changes to 'pause' after a minute or so and if i press play ...music resumes with sound only from the phone.
Grooveshark:
If song already playing then establishing BT connection then nothing changes sound still comes from phone.
But if BT is established already then there is no sound from phone or other device. Until you break connection then press play on another selectin then sound resumes from the phone. I did a double check to make sure the volume was not turned down.
Rdio:
If BT is already established we get 'Media Player Error for {song}'
If we turn off BT and wait there is still not sound but it eventually causes reboot once it loops through a certain number of songs.
If you start rdio with BT off (turned off on remote device) then song starts with sound from phone.
If we turn on BT while a song is playing, connection is established but sound still comes from phone. But if you try to skip to next song, get Media player error again.
Having the same issue on Samsung exhilarate and cm 11 nightlies. It worked at one point in cm 11, but I can't pinpoint when it went awry...

Did anyone find the resolution to this problem? I switched to Dirty Unicorn and it works on and off. Sometimes it even turned off my bluetooth and I would have to reboot my phone to turn it back on.
Music Player does likewise
I have been using Avatar Rom for the last year or so and as most roms, it has its issues now and again. I am currently running the latest version based on CM11 and since I can't post on the developer thread I thought I would add my 2 cents here.
I have a set of bluetooth headphones and they work just fine except for recenlty on the latest kitkat verson of Avatar rom. It connects fine to the headphones. I can even start and stop the music from playing using the headset buttons, but when I hit play, the music progress bar goes full scale and hangs there for a time after which it advances to the next track and does the same thing. During all this there is no sound from the headphones. When I disconnect bluetooth it will then, after a time, begin to play the music from the phone speaker. I restored an earlier version of Avatar and tried it and it worked fine. I think it was a later version of Jelly Bean.
At any rate, it appears there is an issue with the CM11 KitKat. It may be KitKat all together. Since I haven't the posting history to post on the developer forum I decided to do it here. There was one post from someone on the develper thread that is having the same issue. Unfortunately the Avatar developement thread has very little activity and little or none from the developer. They are, however, still updating. At least they have a week or so ago.
Edit: Since there doesn't seem to be any immediate fixes for this issue I have reverted back to an earlier version of Avatar which uses CM 3.0.101 dated Jan 25th. This is working for now with the bluetooth headphones. I'll continue to use this one until such time as the issue is resolved or I find a ROM I like better.

I'm starting to think that the problem is with KitKat and not any specific custom ROM. I recently flashed The Collective and everything is working pretty good. The con to this is that the functions like "volume wake" is not implemented in this version
I also ran a search for "bluetooth" on each of the posts regarding new and active ROMs and it seems that their are very little mentioning of any fixes to this problem. It is as if there are little testing done regarding pairing the phone's bluetooth with the car's system. I would love to have this problem address but it seems that I don't have the correct amount of post to raise up the problem in the developer's thread. I hope this post catches developer's attention regarding this matter.
At the end of the day, I still love all these developers' work because without them, the S2 would've been dead a long time ago. :good:
Same issue.
Phone= Note 3 running TW kitkat on Tmobile
Connecting device: Ca-Fi Android head unit
Thinking its a Kit Kat issue. My head unit works fine when connected to another wifi source. Pandora never starts playing music. Just skips through songs.
I try streaming from phone to headunit over blutooth and pandora on phone keeps not responding. i have done factory resets, different phone roms, dns edits, congestion mods, network tweaks. same behavior regardless.
Fixed by turning off voice over LTE

[Q] Disabling Headset Button Control

Okay, I've searched everywhere for a free solution to this problem and have found none. After listening to music, I pause it and put my phone in my pocket, headphones wrapped around it. Everything's fine and dandy, but while in my pocket, the button on the urBeats turns on the music. This is not the worst part. If the button is double clicked, it calls the most recent number. I called my grandma 5 times yesterday. She was quite concerned. How do i change what the button does/disable it altogether? Thanks for answering.

I've had this issue too, running several different ROM's. I listen to iHeart radio while I run in the morning. and keep the phone in my sweatshirt pocket with screen turned off. As I run, and the phone bounces up and down, my phone spazzes out! It changes channel spontaneously, goes to google now search, prompting me to say something, and also as above, calls the last number called. When I run at 4:30 in the morning, this can be a problem. I thought it was just my headphones, but this may be a more wide-spread problem. This has happened to me while running AOSP (liquid smooth) and Sense (Nusense 6) I don't think it has anything to do with buttons, but I notice that if I twist the headphone jack around in the socket, it reproduces the problem. Anybody else?

I'm on ViperROM for future reference and the issue for me is definitely the button. One click turns on music, two clicks dials the last number. Holding it down opens google search. All of this is easily replicable. It happens in my pocket all the time and I want it to stop

I hate how it does that too. You can't even skip tracks with the headset. Someone needs to make an xposed thing for this.
Funny, switching headphones solved the problem for me. I was using jaw breaker ear buds, before, and tossed them (they had been through the washer a couple times anyway) Using the ear buds that came with my old Samsung GSIII, and they work fine with no skips, random calls, or google now prompts. Go figure. Read somewhere that it has to do with how securely the headset plug is held in the jack. Anyone else?

ok i found a xposed thing that does that, but it only works when music is playing so if the music app is closed, it will still call people with a double click (which i want disabled entirely). so this problem is only kinda solved with that. i wish there was something like it that was configurable.

Audio playback stopping/muting?

I'm having issues with the playback on my N5X when using headphones w/ remote. Bluetooth seems to work without issue.
The problem is, randomly, and usually within a minute of starting audio and putting the screen to sleep, audio playback will stop. Once I unlock the phone, it looks as if the OS still thinks audio is playing. If I toggle the play/pause button, I can get it to restart audio, but it does not pick up at the point where I heard the audio stop -- as if it continued playing while "muted". This occurs in at least 2 separate apps, which is why i'm thinking it's either an Android bug or possible a HW issue.
Anyone seen this?

I've had a problem playing audio using Podcast Addict over bluetooth, but it's not similar to what you're describing. In my case, playback just pauses randomly for a second or two, then continues. This can happen after 1 minute of playback, or 20 minutes. I'm assuming at this point that my problem is with the app, android 6.0 is still very new and some apps may have problems (like camera apps flipping everything upside-down).
Exactly the same issues with my Nexus 5X... Deezer and Podcast Addict. Music starts but as soon as the display is turned off, approx. one minute later the sound stopps but when I turn the phone on again the player looks like still playing... Very annoying... Have you changed someting like the "lock when power button is pushed" option ore anything which is connected to the display?
Same here with Spotify... I find that I have to unplug and replug the headphones, hit pause, then play again. :/ Have you tried disabling Doze for your music player? It may have something to do with that, but I haven't experimented with it yet.

Yes I Had this problem. Mine did the exact same thing as yours. I rebooted the phone and it seemed to fix the problem. I can't tell if I would have had the problem again because I sent my phone back the next day for a replacement. My WiFi was terribly slow so they are sending me a new 5X.
I'm having the same problem when I use Google Music. I don't even have to turn the screen off. Did you have any luck figuring the problem out?

Yes, I did deselect "Power button instantly locks". I'll try putting it back to the default to see what happens. I know this has nothing to do with the "Smart Lock" state, because it happens even when I'm away from home.
Otherwise, I've found nothing that solves the issue. It's very annoying. The good thing is it probably only happens 10% of the time when I turn off the display with audio playing.
Yeah it's happening every single time I play music. Driving me crazy
Having the same problem. Seems to only happen when I'm doing something that would trigger the motion sensors. So when walking, all audio gets muted within a few seconds of me starting to walk, then stays muted. However, if I pause the audio, after 10 seconds I hear a pop (like the sound of a speaker turning off or something similar) and audio is available again. Exact same thing happens when I'm biking. If I'm stopped, music will continue until I start biking again, pause music, ten seconds later pop, resume. Everything is fine until I stop again, then repeat.
This isn't a problem when I take the subway, or a bus.
It's not just music that's muted though, all notification noises and alarms are also muted. The phone thinks the volumes are all where they're set, but won't play anything either over headphones, bluetooth or the speaker.
A reboot has not fixed my issue. System logs haven't revealed anything. Since this doesn't seem to be a super widespread problem, I'll be RMA'ing this one and hoping it doesn't happen on my next.
I'm not the only one
I have similar issues with mine, using podcast addict and YouTube with either wired headphones or wired aux jack.
What I find weird is that I am able to continue watching the video but without sound. I am unable to reliably replicate the problem but it always happens very quickly in the car using the wird aux input.
Sometimes the headphones will be fine for a long time while I'm sitting still and other times it will seem to stop even if I have no motion happening or have not touch the headphones.
Would be interested in trouble shooting this please advise.
Putting my phone away without turning off the screen seems to make this happen less. However, since this doesn't seem to be a super widespread problem, I've RMA'd my device. Not interested in starting out with a broken handset.
Been happening to me too - think since the MDB08L update. I just turned off Google Now 'Always On' and my podcast is playing fine (so far, lol). Not ideal because I do use OK Google, but continuous audio playback is way more important to me. Hopefully it'll be fixed soon. How can we report issues like this to Google?
Interesting. I use Nova Launcher and switched off Google Now 'Always On' in the phone settings, but left it enabled in Nova Settings 'Gestures and Inputs'. I can still say 'OK Google' on any screen and so far the audio is playing without stopping every minute or so.
Getting this too. Was out running earlier with headphones in, stopped playing randomly five or six times but found skipping track made it work again. At home, had it on loud speaker, got 5 seconds in but it froze, skipped track and got 3 seconds, skipped again and just got 1 second. Gave up after that..
But it works fine when connected to a bluetooth speaker or my car!

I tried this - switched off the "Always On" option. Went for a 40 min run tonight with music on through headphones and it didn't stop playing once.
Even now, got the phone playing through loudspeaker and it's having no problems!
Exact same issue here .
Audio playback stops but device still thinks its playing ie speaker icon on top bar. Sometimes stopping app and restarting helps other times no joy. I have also heard the short pop sound when it stops.
So far has happened in Youtube, google music and in some games. Also intermittent loss of text alert tones too.
Only sure fire way to reset is to restart phone.
I shall give the switching google now always on off trick see if this helps and report back (never use it anyway but still it shouldn't prevent audio)
Try a reboot

I did more searching online and found enough other people are having a similar to think that there's something going on with the software. One post on a nexus 5 X subreddit had talked to Google support and went through a process of a safe mode boot as well as a reboot. I have not tried a safe mode boot but a reboot has resulted in the best playback experience I have had since owning this phone. No interruptions in audio for the last several hours . I'm on Verizon and have not received any updates as far as I'm aware. I am hoping that this will last.
My phone updated yesterday... I'm not sure but I haven't run into this problem yet with the new update. It has only happen 3-4 times before the update but we'll see

The gloves are off - Notorious Headset control bug

First and foremost I feel obliged to express my disgust at how long this has been a problem in android. My S3 did it but nothing like as often and as much as my G3 does. The problem is when listening to music, if you don't explicitly stop your player from responding to headset controls. the music pauses, skips tracks, changes lists etc like all hell. Im given to understand the problem lies in the jack itself, and that twisting or so much as sneezing on the plug causes the rings to move which android falsely interprets as headset control commands.
It might sound like I have already solved my own problem with the above fix, but I ALSO had the problem of it launching google now voice recognition. This interrupts my songs and I wont lie I have come PERILOUSLY close to pegging my phone at a wall on more than one occasion. Its absolutely appalling this has been going on for this long. Rant over.
Heres my current situation firmware/root etc wise:
Android 6.0 marshmallow (its been a problem for me since jellybean)
Root access
Trying to install the xposed framework at the moment but doesnt look like its going to work with marshmallow
I will do legit anything to my phone to have this prick of a bug erradicated.
THanks for your time
Bump - anyone know of any solution? I Dont care if I need to completely cut out Google Now I will do It I legit cant take this crap anymore and I want to be able to run with my phone
