I flashed 2.3.4 with FlashTool and then rooted. Works like a charm. Much less buggy than 2.3.3.

Changes I've noticed:
-Much better battery life. Standby time specially.
-Different folder icons, with previews
-Timescape stopped temp freezing for me, which it did a lot in 2.3.3
-Nice new smooth screen-off/on animation
-Finally you can turn off the auto adjustment of the screen brightness!!
-You can now take a screenshot when holding down the power button
-Supposedly the "pressing back button triggers multiple times bug" has been fixed
Overall I'm getting a much better experience with 2.3.4.

Did they just release it in Mexico? Last night I was reading some Sony Ericsson Mexico comments on facebook and the rep was saying we'd get it on November (and I added a couple of months for the carrier bloatware).
I'd try but I don't want to loose my PSXperia games I guess I can hook it up and check for update (without really updating) just to confirm here.
Edit: it says I'm up to date on 2.3.3, we didn't even get the 4.0 update either.

Ok, I'm from Mexico and my phone is Telcel, but I put the U.S. firmware by wotanserver, maybe this is why I was able to update, now I'm on 2.3.4 with root, and still does not prove my freexperia games

Hi! im also from the Philippines and im also using Xperia play (just last week, got it from sulit.com )
anyway, there's already a 2.3.4 firmware, check out the development threads,
after that you can use DoomLord's kernel for better use and clocks.
You can just delete the removable bloatware (there's also a thread like this I think)

it has been out for a loooong time, there is another device similar to the Beam was on July, the other one was on March
both are for Europe market
they don't seem to be very popular
they are from the 8000 family, although the spec are very close to the Galaxy S 9000 family

For those who wish to purchase the phone:
You need to place a reservation at StarHub Center before making the purchase. It takes about a week before your phone is ready for collection.
I was lucky enough to get it immediately because someone cancelled his reservation.

I have some bad news for you. Samsung has officially stopped software support for that device last month and said there's no plans for official froyo for it as there's just not enough beams out there to warrent the support as it was only sold in Singapore and very small numbers. They now have all development on tablet and galaxy s models. Google for more info. I read that last month someplace

Hmm never had a problem with market. Have you tried replacing the stock market app with a generic one from ipmart? Perhaps it's locked down to Singapore or something.

My phone is running the same firmware version as yours. It's released on 1 Sept which is more recent than the July version on that blog.

Probably, but I doubt there will be any more updates since the beam is not getting froyo. Hopefully I'm wrong...

The new 1.27 FW should be available from now on.
The update is currently being rolled out in the Netherlands and France.
This update should give the One X better camera performance and the batterylife should be a lot better.

Yesterday, I flashed ARHD so I can't test if the update is available right now.

Don't believe it myself, no offence like. Was just on the phone to HTC today for other reasons and they said there was nothing in the pipeline.

Looks like there is an update (10.1.1.A.1.253) available here in the US for my ZL (C6506) through PC companion. Here is the changelog:
1.Enhanced user experience
2.Improved battery life
3.Software performance enhancements
Notification bar & dock color has been changed to black (from gray). That's all I have noticed so far. I'll need to see if the mediaserver battery drain issue has been fixed or not.
Update (May 17,2013) : After using the phone on the new FW for two days, I'm quite happy with the improved battery life. Mediaserver had the highest battery usage (> 40%) on my previous build. Now it's down to 5% ! Camera shots look a bit better - still there is room for improvement. Hopefully, Sony will improve it further in the future. - great job, keep it up, Sony

My model is C6506 which is one of the two unlocked models available in the US (Other one is C6502). My build was 10.1.A.1.434 prior to the update. The update is available through PC companion (not OTA)

i have an unlocked phone, i just plugged it into the sony companion on the laptop and it prompted for an update
also they've added a mini chrome browser to the small apps list, sweet, in addition to some graphics fix ups, and im sure some other stuff
I've just plugged and nothing showed up on pc companion..it says I got the last updated firmware but it could take a couple of days to appear on every region after the official launching.

Mine did a "NFC Firmware Updating" after the initial boot as well.

Yep, .211 is a regional patch. It isn't available in Europe or America... an probably never will, but is a generic version. You can use without any problem.

No, in this case regional means exactly that. It's for a set group of countries within a certain area of the world that was experiencing an issue with wifi.
The only fix in .211 is the wifi bug so if you're not experiencing it then you'll have nothing to gain from flashing. Nothing to lose either mind you.

Now, would you call Middle East and Africa a region? I would, and apparently, so would Sony.
It doesn't really matter what you think or what I think, for that matter, fact is, Sony released this patch only for a certain region.
Half the world, which is not this case, but let's roll with it, is a region, no matter whose definition we take.
Will we get a patch for the lingering bugs the rest of the world (let's call them other regions) still have? Maybe, I like to think so.

It's not that Sony doesn't care... it's just that these regions weren't experiencing the wifi issue. The same happened with .50 and .55 on ICS... those firmware updates contained minor bug fixes that some users were experiencing, but for example, the latest update for my phone before JB was .45 because I wasn't experiencing those same bugs.
As someone else has said there will be another bug fix on it's way that will likely be rolled out to ALL the regions in the world. It's not that difficult to understand, but if you really absolutely must have the latest latest firmware (even though in this case .211 will be out-dated in a couple weeks) you can flash the MEA .211 ftf. Your phone will most likely still work in exactly the same way, you just won't have your region, or a World Generic firmware running on it.
Personally, and for most others I assume, it's not worth the hassle as you won't gain anything from it. If it's not broken don't fix it.

I suspect that Wi-Fi was only broken in the MEA customization of .200, which is why only that one got the .211 update. Otherwise, as soon as someone with .200 from a different region took their mobile phone (they clue is in the name( to the Middle East, they would get the Wi-Fi problem too. I've not seen any reports to that effect (and I'd hope that Sony would be wise to it anyway...)
The other thing to bear in mind is that, apart from some tweaks to the bands available in different regions (eg the US doesn't allow bands above 11 on 2.4GHz), Wi-Fi is Wi-Fi wherever you go. So the problem was much more likely to be due to specific regional differences in MEA (my guess is that it was something to do with the baseband for that region, since AIUI the problem was that Wi-Fi didn't work when cellular radio was active).
So in summary: other regions didn't need the update because the customizations of .200 for those regions didn't have the specific problem that .211 fixed.
I'd love to know more about this update rumoured to be coming in July, if anyone has any reliable information about it.

You really dont have it. I live in germany. Got the update but switched to XPerience. U can install the Update through Recovery. Just Google it.

No-one knows when Lenovo are releasing updates, they are dragging there feet. Other European countries are getting updates but lot's are still stuck on 1st January 2017 security firmware here in the UK.

The fact there realising newer phones every 5 seconds!!!. I am finding the G5 to be one, if not one of the worse unstable phones I have ever had!.
I had the G4 before and then changed to the G5 when it came out 3/4 months ago (think it was when it was first released in UK?). The Google screen (when you swipe left) always says that "Launcher 3 Has Stopped working" and also call quality is bad with calling people.. (from what they have said lol).
I don't think it's a faulity device, as I have done full system reset and not really into rooting etc.. I just can't believe how buggy the phone is and as mentioned. Even when I bought it brand new/factory sealed. There was no updates. It's as though they don't care as there more bothered about the other handsets in the Moto series!.

All the bugs I have had is on good chrome then it crashed and turned off the phone! And the update problem

Hello All.
I'm on reteu software channel and yesterday I have recieved an OTA update that contains some improvement and android security patch 1 march. All went well except that it totally failed to install, first it tried to boot back, but froze when starting android window popped up, then I had to reboot it manually and then it ended up on a recovery screen showing error.
After the third reboot it managed to restart properly but gapps had been reset to default.
This is an xt1676 3gb ram model, with locked bootloader.
New build version Npp25.13-72
It is possible that this was an isolated case, but wanted to warn you guys
