Wireless tether app or something similar? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

In a serious bind with T-Mobile lying to me about buying the new Galaxy SII and enabling wireless hotspot wouldn't cost me a dime. WRONG! Wireless tether root app worked great on my friends Droid x and Droid 2, any ideas? Please post a download if it's not too much trouble.

Root the phone, install titanium backup, and go to backup/restore and go all the way till you can find thetering manager app.apk, then click on it, the click on freeze, then uninstall, after reboot the phone and now your wifi tether should work with no problems
have done this in 10 phones and all work great!!!

Kudos to those who suggested the titanium backup method. It works like a charm and I want to thank you guys for saving me an extra 15 dollars a month. Sure you can pay for things, but why should you when you don't have to
Thanks guys!

If T-Mobile finds out oh well. I already paid for the data once. Why should I have to pay for it again. Either why the will still slow my speeds after 5GB.
But rooting the phone and freezing or removing the tether manager worked for me as well.

Just an FYI. After I uninstalled the tethering manager and rebooted phone I no longer had mobile data or calling or any connecion via the radio.
I had to install it back from the stock back up. Once I did and rebooted it went back to being fine.
In case anyone else runs into this doing the above.
just a reminder, you don't have to uninstall. just freeze using TI Backup, works the same way, but safer.

I have the free version and freeze is not an option. But I am new to TI backup and just grabbed it from the market.
can you confirm portabe wifi hotspot is working by doing this? please let me know before i return the phone.
i'm currently tethered just fine. the only issue i see is that the only way to start tethering is through the settings menu (which is fine... i don't want to start it on accident anyway).

Thanks to ronin4740,
to get the factory wireless tethering to work you must delete or freeze tethering manager with titanium backup (or similar app). the you should have the wireless tethering feature working.

I just tested on digital warfare using wifi tethering with and without wifi sharing and wifi manager frozen. It works both ways. I do not know if this is the case universally because I know tdj took tethering manager out by default and I don't know if he made mods allowing to use wifi tethering without removing those apps. Bottom line: removing those does not compromise your ability to use wifi tethering. But to be safe, you should just freeze them instead of remove so if you do find they do something critical then you can restore them

What update do you need? Its simple just freeze the apk with titanium and tether your heart out. Oh ya and I never freeze it , I just delete it and never had any issues.

[Q] T-mobile wifi hotspot bypass??

p.s. im not paying tmobile for tethering service

You have to change your user agent on the PC side. I reccomend Firefox with the add on called "user agent switcher". No matter what don't use internet explorer, immediate giveaway.
Here's my current one as an example:
Mozilla/5.0 Linux U Android 4.0.4 en-us Galaxy Nexus Build/IMM76I CyanogenMod-9 AppleWebKit/534.30 KHTML, like Gecko Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/534.30
Here an example of what will get ur ass redirected to the tmo up sell page:
IE 7 ? Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.30)2011-10-16 20:20:09

If all else fails you could also use PdaNet and use the "hide tether usage" option.
Try using Firefox. Works for me even when Chrome redirects.
