Desire Z problems with proximity sensor? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a strange problem with my desire z.
If i not have a headset plugged in my smartphone, it reacts to the proximity sensor, and it work as it should.
But if i have a headset plugged in my smartphone, it didn't react to the proximity sensor, and display is ON the whole time
For some reason it ignores the proximity sensor.
For me this is a big bug.
Display don't have to lluminate my pocket during a phone call.
It eats battery juice and one accidentally pressing buttons.
Did someone have the same problem?

It sounds like you have the same problem I do on my G2. (I keep mine in my pocket also, so it is exposed to lots of lint.) Download the app "AndroSensor" from the market to verify that the proximity sensor is or is not detecting any changes. If it isn't, then it probably has debris blocking it. What fixes it for me is to either shoot some compressed air from one of those little cans into the speaker hole towards the left side of the phone (where the proximity sensor is) to clear it out. It might also work to vacuum the speaker hole also.

It is working.
It just doesn't work with a headset plugged in.

I have found a very good app, that firstly fixes the bug, and additionally also checks after the call if phone is in the pocket, and then immediately locks phone and disables screen

Works without Root.
My Settings:
Enable Device Admin X
Enable during call only X
Cover and hold to lock the screen X

Proximity sensor and phone

I've got a problem that when I phone my screen goes blank without waiting me to put it against my face and then doesn't come back on again without me having to push the power button.
Any ideas where to start looking. I'm using the standard stock 6.5 WWE ROM.
I believe it uses the ambient light sensor on the front of the device to determine when it is against your face. Make sure the sensor is clean and not hidden under an aftermarket case. The TP2 might also use the accelerometer to determine the orientation of the device, in order to complement the light sensor and better determine when you're holding it up against your face.
So I'd go into the settings and calibrate the G-Sensor as well.
Thanks will take a look at that.
Having an Issue with Proximity Sensor (Can only talk on phone with Keyboard extended)
I am having a proximity sensor issue with my Tilt 2. When the proximity sensor kicks in and the screen goes black, the person i am calling doesnt hear my voice. Only when I move the phone away from my ear or extend the keypad so the 'lights stay on' does the other person hear my voice.
What can i do to force the light to stay on even when its up to my face.
where is this sensor located on the front of the phone? I am wondering if my screen protector is causing it. I have no clue
Helo,
Same problem here.
Any help?

[Q] Proximity sensor issue??

Wondering if someone (hopefully more than one) can check something to see if this is an issue with my particular phone or something related to the software/hardware. It seems that when a call is placed or received, the proximity sensor goes to "far" and won't reset until it is uncovered and then re-covered. I have searched through the Verizon HTC One forums and have not found anything related to this issue.
If the proximity sensor is covered, and I make a call (via bluetooth headset (double click for last dialed)) or receive a call, the proximity sensor goes to the uncovered state. It then stays in that state until I uncover and then re-cover it. How I checked this was using Elixir 2 and checking the sensor data. I also set up variables in Tasker and Automagic.
So, this was my test procedure:
I start the sensor data in Elixir 2 for the proximity sensor. I cover the sensor with my finger (it now shows "near"). I use my bluetooth headset to place a call. The screen comes on with the current call. I back out of the current screen (the phone screen) and get back to Elixir 2 sensor data. The sensor now shows "far". From that point on, until I uncover the proximity sensor and then cover it, it shows far. I set up variables in Tasker and Automagic that show the same results.
I am running the stock debloated ROM. Rooted and S-Off.
Dont know about the bluetooth thing because i dont have one, but i do have issues sometimes with the proximity sensor when on calls. For example i will dial a number and put the phone to my ear talk awhile and then need to switch to speaker or look at something on the phone while still talking. But when i take the phone away from my ear, the screen stays off, and i have to swipe my finger over the sensor to get it to come back on.
I don't seem to have an issue with that. What seems to happen is that, IF the proximity sensor is covered, and you place a call or answer a call with your headset, when the device "wakes up" to the call screen the proximity sensor defaults to uncovered ( "far" ). Then the sensor does not start responding again until it is actually uncovered.

Anyone?
Hmmm... So, this is the latest for my issue. I went from stock ROM to ViperOne 5.8.0. I am still getting the same results. So, I think I have eliminated the software side of it. Would that be right? So, it could be the firmware or the hardware? I'm still wondering if it's my phone only or if it is an issue with the HTC One in general. Is there anyone that can check this? Or give me another route to take?
I'm on ViperOne 5.8.0
Android 4.4.2
Senses 5.5
Any other info you might need, please just ask.

dark screen when have phone call

Hi guys
Since one day , my screen turns dark when having phone call or receiving phone call.
I can't type the keyboard and press the speaker button, which are inconvenient.
I have updated fw to fw_capricorn_miui_MI5S_V9.6.1.0.NAGCNFD_857fde8b41_7.0.zip
I have this issue on different roms including lineage 14 , lineage15, RR,and pixel experience .
Do anyone also have the issue and do anyone know how to solve it.?
My phone drop to ground once which cause screen crack. I am not sure whether this is the root cause.
Many thanks
The phone has on the front a proximity sensor, which is basically a small light sensor that checks if the phone is near the head or not. If it's near the head, it turns the screen of, so that you don't press any buttons while holding the phone to your ear.
I think either your sensor is broken or the crack always brings light to the sensor.

Click to collapse
Could I disable this function?
Always disable light sensor or disable when have phone call
I had the same problem I thought the sensor was broken (you can test it with sensors test https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=asd.vector.sensor ). But it was ok, it turns out it was firmware related. When I downgraded my firmware the proximity sensor was working again...
Good Luck

Proximity problem(AOSP ROMS)

Sometimes screen just turn off and wont turn on until call is done ,sometimes it works fine, sometimes it wont work at all and screen is on all the time...Anyone else had these problems?
Using latest OMNI build
Yes. I think it's quiet common. Just remove Proximity sensor. Download Magisk and disable Proximity sensor.
Yeah the proximity sensor is a little hit or miss. I keep hitting the mute button with my cheek during calls ?
I had this problem for a lot of time and just fixed it with a small piece of plastic, I cleaned the phone starting from the speaker and going both left and right while using an app that show sensors stats live, cleaning it restored full functionality, god it was so easy I can't believe it.

Disable the proximity Sensor?

In searching through the forums I find that many of the other phones have methods of disabling the proximity sensor. However, I do not see a method of disabling the proximity sensor on the Pixel 3a XL. I am using a transparent plastic case to provide waterproofing and prevent loss. Therefore, as soon as a phone call Connects, the screen goes black and all touch screen control is disabled. I have programmed the power key to disconnect phone calls so I no longer leave pocket messages on people's answering machines. I would also like to be able to use speakerphone.
Best and worst phone ever
Seems the proximity sensor is either on or off with no successful way to calibrate it. This phone is a lemon, and nobody supports it.
