The device doesn't boot - Acer Iconia Tab A100

Hey guys,
it looks like i've got a serious problem. Yesterday, while surfing the Net, i got a bunch of forcecloses (android.media, android.app.widget e.t.c.). I managed to reboot it, but afterwards i got the brick. For two hours the device stayed playing boot animation. I managed to charge it and tooday the problem still exists.
What should i do? How can i do a Hard Reset?
Thank you.

Have you done a paper clip reset ???
Insert paper clip in reset hole lower left of unit.
Should reset unit.

no result.

haven't booted yet. I have left it 4 hours ago and went to sleep, woke up a minute ago and it still playes blue "android" animation. Have tried recovery, a green gui with ! appeared, but in 5 minutes - reboot with some vibration and again... ACER-logo and forever-boot. Should i flash it?

I've got same problem as you, and when i've tried to flash it the software on the Pc asked me the CPU ID, that is very difficult to have and also, if you finally can found it, there's the chance that is not recognized from the software as happen to me.

Try this: put in your sd card the file update.zip ( i will provide a link to you shortly ). Then power up the device to recovery and it should begin a recovery process from sd thanks to the update.zip. When i did it, anything on my tab remained the same: data, photos, apps...
p.s.

I have recently started to update it to the gen 2 (found it on russian servers, can share a link if you want). Again android-guy with "!" on the chest appeared and after a while the device rebooted. It has being booted now for a 10 minutes (again android blue animation). I don't think this is normal. Or is it?

Just a "guess" type suggestion.
Can you install just the update you have on a clean SdCard with you PC then put back into the A100 and try a reboot.
Reboot of a install do take quite a few minutes. not more than 20 or 30 though.

try with the file i've gave you before. At the starting try several combination. Not only power&volume up, also with volume down and also BOTH volume pressed hardly.

should the card be absolutely clean containing only update.zip?

and IS the green android guy with ! on the chest normal, or it's my issue?

Update:
Have flashed it with gen 2 got it with on + volume up button, but still no result. The upgrade was succsesfulkl, but the animation still plays.
Maybe it is because the SD card wasn't empty.

What it means is "he" can't find the update file.
However you are placing it on a clean formatted sdcard is the thing you have to concentrate on.
I wish I had more info to give you.

Lol. I finally got it working went back 3.0 this is the instruction i follow bellow, doing all this and didn't loose any apps or info after going back and update.
METHOD 2 - thanks GamezR2EZ
This is even easier because it does not need your UID. It is just flashing as a normal update but actually it is an older HC version that is rootable by Iconiaroot.
1. Download this package Downgrade_not_stable_zip
2. Extract the update.zip from it and place it on your external SD card.
3. Turn off your tab and then turn it back on while holding Volume Down key. This will automatically flash the update.zip from your SD card.
4. After flashing is finished you'll have unstable Honeycomb 3.0.1 - gives errors and crashes but you only need it to root and install CWM. If it fails to boot try to hard reset your device *.
5. Install Iconiaroot 1.3, root your beast and then install CWM from thor's site(there you can find the latest version) or use Acer Recovery Installer from the Market, or look at the original thread here
6. Boot into CWM and flash whatever ROM you like!

The file linked there is no good. Also the poster removed the link since the mechanism Acer used rendered the file useless once it is installed. The poster claims he found a version on a Russian site. If he can provide a link maybe some goodies can be extracted from it.

[Q] Advanced Ace Hack Kit issue

Earlier today, I ran the updated 15/10/11 version of the ace hack kit. Like it was suggested, I read through the manual then I re-read it and re-read it again. As suggested, I disabled / uninstalled all security software on my pc and the other superfluous services. Ran the executable drivers file then I set the phone to charge only and usb debugging was ticked.
I then ran the hack-ace.cmd file as administrator and let the program do it's thing.
It appeared to have completed without any glitches in the suggested 6 minutes.
However, on the phone, all was not well. Since running this, the screen remains blank. When I power on, I get the HTC logo and then it disappears / disintegrates into a blank screen and nothing happens.
The only reason I ran this was to get rid of the irritating apps that I never use but have to Kill every day.
Can anyone help to overcome this problem? This was a replacement handset that I had to fight with my insurance company to get only for this to happen.
I am literaly at my wits end.
Thanks

Yes this is the best thing to do. Something must have corrupted your stock ROM. If AAHK completed properly, then you should have ClockworkMod recovery installed.
The first thing I did was install 4EXT recovery but thats not necessary, that was just a personal choice.
So these are the steps you should take:
1: Download a new ROM and put it on your SD card in a convenient place (I recommend the RCMIX32 Runny 3.1 ROM)
2: Remove the battery and reinsert the battery
3: Hold down the volume down button and then hold down the power button. You will get to a white screen with some green robots on the bottom. This is the bootloader screen. You will have to wait a bit for it to finish scanning the SD card. It will tell you when it is finished
4: Use the volume buttons to select recovery and press the power button to select it
5: After a few seconds the recovery environment will appear
6: Go to the wipe menu. Wipe data, cache and dalvik cache (and system if you have the option. I havent used Clockworkmod in a while so I cant really remember what options you have there)
7: Go a few menu's back and select Install zip from SD card
8: Select the zip file
9: Press yes on the confirmation screen
10: When it is finished, click reboot now. It might be on the menu back
This will install a new ROM and it should work properly. If you have any problems along the way just say and we will help to the best of our ability
Thanks for the responses.
I don't think ClockworkMod is installed as there are no options available when I select recovery. It just reboots the device back to the HTC splash screen which as mentioned then fades / deteriorates to a black screen. I had tried the Android HD Revolution rom but no difference.
One thing I did yesterday in my panic was to select 'Factory reset'. Will this have usb debugging setting?
Finally, when I connect to a pc, it doesn't see it. Is this because it's still set on charge only mode?
I'm probably my own worst enemy
If you finally press "Factory reset" you will reset USB debugging, then you can't root your phone using this tools kit. Try to reinstall the stock rom.
If you didn't root your DHD. Phone may still under warranty.
Hi Guys
I've managed to get this back up and running again.
After a lot of playing about with various file downloads last night, I finally managed to get my pc to see the phone. After that, I just downloaded a stock rom and installed it.
After this fright, I am reluctantly going to stick with this and not bother with rooting / custom roms.
Anyway, many thanks for all your responses, I really appreciate the time you took to helpo me out.
This forum absolutely rocks.
Hi,
I've just downloaded, I read the 'effen' manual and then ran ace-hack, it seems to have worked except I can't see clockwork mod recovery?
I can see superuser and ROMmanager, is it still ok to try and download and flash a custom ROM?
---------- Post added at 09:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:03 PM ----------
Well to confirm my noob status I have now found that clockwork mod recovery is indeed installed (I assume you're not meant to be able to see it as an app as it sits at a lower level).
I downloaded the CM7 ROM, so have booted up into recovery mode, have wiped/formatted as instructed but when I choose the zip file from SD card it appears to start then aborts installation...help!!!!

Did you check the MD5 Checksum of the .zip before you copied it to your SD Card? as it might is some way have got corrupted.
Here is a link to what I always use before I copy anything to my SD Card or install on my OS System:- MD5 Check 2.1.
Take Care
TheQuest
Thanks!
I'm all sorted (I think, fingers crossed).
It was principally because of the mac unzipping (Safari preferences not checked), this was the original and prime fault.
That caused me to doubt my partitions on the SD card (google is sometimes your enemy) which I altered.
So what then happened was CM7 installed but upon reboot looped continuously on the android skateboarding screen.
I finally resorted to formatting the SD Card, reapplying the CM7 zip and the google zips and so far it looks good.
Of course I (me and me alone) has stuffed up all the user data I had on the SD card. I might try to recover some photos but stuff like contacts I can regenerate no major loss there.
Thanks for replying!!
CM7 - the experience thus far
Well its 72 hours since I took the plunge!
Initially it looked odd and felt flakey, the Market refused to download 80% of the apps I tried. I resolved this (not sure if it was the right way) by going into recovery and clearing the cache 2-3 times and eventually downloaded all of my old apps.
Some apps cause frequent force-closes, I assume because they've not been updated for Gingerbread? Thats a very minor irritant, I can easily live without these apps anyway.
Battery life hasn't noticeably altered yet but I suppose I have been constantly been tinkering, playing with settings, trying wifi (seems a little less sensitive to signals) and gauging how the radio is working - I seem to get HSPDA a lot less and resort to 3G more than I previously did?
So, done it, like it despite some minor reservations - now what, is there anything else I can do to improve the experience?
I must add one thing this has shown me - I really really know very little about what goes on under the hood. Despite 20+ years experience in CIS this is a very different world and all credit to those who have developed CM7!!
Please help if you can.. please
Hello!!
I am desperately seeking some guidance. Please.
So, I used to have a HTC Inspire 4G and in June I rooted it successfully.. then installed Cyanogenmod 7 etc.. everything worked great. I unfortunately lost the phone and because of insurance got a new one.
When I rooted the first time I used the old school method that was in the XDA forum.. ADB..etc.. but today... with the new replacement..
I downloaded Advance ace hack kit 29102011 (ahhk 29102011.zip) which after reading all the stuff I thought would be just a quicker way to get rooted. I used the same PC that I used before.
This time, unfortunately I am getting a black screen, right after the HTC splash screen shows up.. it fades to black.
I can get to the "Hboot" screen but removing the battery, then restarting by holding the power and the down vol button.
Tried Factory reset.. still fades to back
Tried Recovery .. still fades to back
The device will not be recognized on my laptop when connected to USB..
Am I stuck? Do I have any options?
I should have done what I did before.. but am at a loss right now.. will you please help me.
Please.
Thanks a million in advance for your responses.
Please help.

I want to say yes that it's cross carrier compatible but I can't for sure. PM me you're rooted and unlocked and maybe we can take a look at a few things to see.
Dumb question probably, put zip in /sdcard
booted into CWM,
flashed from internal storage
went through aroma, rebooted
still seeing the lg logo at and don't see any changes of the base
wondering if i did something wrong?
let me know and thanks for the time and effort you put into this

Hmm that's strange for sure. Verify that you're carrier apps are gone. If they are then let me know and something didn't take with the bootscreen. If you still have them, reflash with the method above and let me know if it worked the second time around.
I'll be away from the computer for a couple hours. Talk to you soon!
Oooo! Very excited for this. This is one of the times where I hit download then started reading what all was included.
Flashing momentarily. Thanks guys!

I'm in a similar boat unfortunately. I just freshly unlocked it with the freegee one click app since I wanted to support this kind of stuff when I shut down it started up again right away as if I had pressed restart instead of shutdown. It briefly showed the lg logo then turned off the screen then brought it back on but only displaying black. That's where it sat until I did the equivalent of a battery pull by holding the power button for a really long time. I started it up again, this time holding volume up as well as power and got to fastboot and from there to the recovery. Flashed after that, no problems came up. Then it did the same thing it did the first time with the lg logo, screen off for a second, then black.
What now? o_0
I've already tried flashing it again over top of it so now I'm going to give restoring from backup a shot.
I'll let you know how that goes.
EDIT: Hmm... not good. I can attempt to restore but I get a MD5 mismatch.

Bleh. Hmm... think we both could have, by some coincidence, had a bad download? I was going to try and flash it again but sideloading the zip this time but I switched to a new computer recently and need to set up adb and stuff again. The other thing I was wondering too was about wiping the data partition. This was brought on by this step in the unbricking instructions you linked me to.

I'm coming to this phone from a nexus which was dead simple and straight forward when it came to partitions and having an internal sd and just regular internal memory. This phone just has internal memory, right? So wiping data is going to wipe everything everything, right?
Updated Zip
Seems the unlocked Rogers boot image is causing some grief - I didn't seem to run into this issue on mine. I flashed through CWM that came with freegee. I have updated the zip file with the original freegee unlocked boot image which should solve the problem. The new zip is uploading now and will be ready shortly, I've gone and taken down the previous build and apologize for the inconvenience.

Hmm... I may be a while. It seems I can't even get into recovery now. I don't know how that happened since I could last night. Is there a way to push the phone into recovery mode by way of adb?
Crap, now I'm starting to actually get scared since I can't seem to get into anything.
First off thank you for all your work! This is awesome!
I flashed the rom with TRWP and everything went smoothly, it reboots fine. However it doesn't appear to actually do anything. Everything on my phone is the same. Even the rogers bloat apps are still there. I put the zip on /sdcard and flashed from there.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thank you!

Haha, okay I was just about to give the kdz thing a go. I shouldn't have any problem with the taking it in to Rogers bit as I'm actually doing this at work right now. (I work as a Rogers rep. )

Haha, yup. That's definitely happened to me before too. I'm just in the process of using the kzd tool. It gives me a runtime error right away though, but it doesn't seem to stop if I don't click it. I'm going to try letting it keep running and see what happens.
EDIT: Aaaaaand we're back! Up and running again but it looks like root is gone and bootloader is relocked as expected. Time to try again!
EDIT EDIT: Okay, I told myself I would stay away for a little bit after that scare and stay stock but I can't hold myself back. Flashing... rebooting... looks like its booting! Uh, yay?
First off thank you for all your work! This is awesome!
I flashed the rom with TRWP and everything went smoothly, it reboots fine. However it doesn't appear to actually do anything. Everything on my phone is the same. Even the rogers bloat apps are still there. I put the zip on /sdcard and flashed from there.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thank you!

S3 won't boot up, gray battery icon

Hello there,
I just rooted and flashed a custom recovery to my S3 today. Afterwards, I installed CyanogenMod through the CWM recovery and rebooted, however, after the reboot the device powered off completely. Now when I try to turn on the device I get a grey battery icon with a static circle on it, and it does not proceed any further. I cannot access recovery mode or even get to the Samsung loading screen. Plugging the device into the wall charger doesn't seem to be doing anything as it has been 'charging' for over 30 minutes and still does not power on. I've been scouring the net for hours looking for answers, but the few people who seem to have the same problem have not found any sort of resolution. There are all sorts of tricks people are suggesting such as putting your battery in and plugging the cable in, vice versa..etc but nothing seems to work. The phone was working just fine and the battery still had a good 30-40% charge when this happened. Does anyone know what the issue could be? I cannot even get it serviced because I had JUST rooted/custom recovery'd it when this happened, so just my luck with that. If anyone could help me it would mean a lot. Thank you for reading.
Regards,
Mike

Copy and paste the name of the zip that you downloaded and flashed for me so I can better determine what you did bud, I don't want to say hard brick because this could be battery cells going bad coincidentally

Hello there,
Thanks for the reply. I followed the instructions as per this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2179330
The CWM mod version I got from following Step 2 of that guide, which led me to this: http://www.epiccm.org/2012/06/cwm-recovery-on-all-sgs3-lte-variants.html
Afterwards, everything seemed to be working fine, so I grabbed a copy of the official CM latest nightly for my device, wiped/factory reset, and installed the ROM + gapps. After I reboot, the phone shut off, and this has been going on since. I am able to get into download mode, as I have just discovered, but I cannot get into recovery mode or turn the phone on past this mysterious grey battery icon.
Thanks for your time,

kk download you're stock firmware and flash it in odin, something went wrong my friend so you're going to have to start over
stock roms are here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968625
the good news is download mode = soft brick so you are in luck! My guess is the ROM was corrupt or just a very horrible flash =/

Thanks very much! I was able to use the stock firmware in conjunction with Odin to get myself back up and running!
Now the issue remains, is there any way to install CM 10~ on this device? I cannot find a proper version of CWM aside from the 'universal' one which I mentioned above, however, if I try and flash any version of CM using that recovery, it gives me a Status 7 error, which people say is due to an old recovery version. Any idea as to where I can find a working (new) version of CWM for this device?
Kind Regards,
Mike

I've solved the issue. Thanks for all the help.
The problem was that apparently I had an outdated bootloader which wasn't compatible with newer versions of CM and CWM. I installed the new bootloader from a thread here in the S3 forums and then flashed a new version of CWM and managed to get CM running.
I'm having new, unrelated issues now, but I'm sure I will be able to solve those.
Thanks again

Please help. Dead Firetv. AFTV1

I have a perfectly working rooted AFTV1 or rather had.
I had the clockworkmod rbox installed with bootmenu.
Today I decided to upgrade doing the usual adp push. The firmware installed but after boot couldn't connect to the internet.
Therefore I rebooted with the remote and the light went off and no display on the TV.
Now there is no white led indicator. I've tried the keyboard to do the recovery but since there is no led to show there is power I feel the firetv is gone. I've also tried an alternate adapter from another room but no luck.
Anything I can try? much appreciated. I also lost out on the prime day sale
I have the exact same problem. Did you find a solution?
It seems we blew the efuse in our units.
Maybe we can recover using a A-to-A USB cable. I have two of those from external hdd, maybe I can try, just need to find a guide for that.
I connected the AFTV to my computer using the A-to-A cable.
The computer shows a storage device with some files and the device manager shows a Marshall London HS-USB Diagnostics 9006 port.
Any suggestions? ADB and fastboot do not work. There is no device connected
Same thing after sending that sequence alt pntscn i too many times. Now no light and comes up as an f drive with a a cable. ..we are screwed.

It is probably possible to write to the unit using EMMCRaw. I tried to do it but screwed something up and now I can't even see the flash drive.
My idea is to download a full bin file for the AFTV, extract it using 7-zip and flash the separate boot, sbl, and other files using EMMCRaw.
I was almost there but manage to flash the full bin file in each category and now it is fully bricked, I can't see the flash drive anymore.

I flash the full bin instead of the right files in each section in EMMCraw
You probably should extract the full bin and check the name of the files. You will see they match the categories inside EMMCraw. I read another post explaining the software, saying that you should read the categories first and then flash each file to each category.
I took some risk, but my AFTV was "dead" already so I went ahead.
My opinion is that you should flash BOOT, ABOOT and recovery and hope to get access to ADB and proceed with the already writen guides to flash and unlock the AFTV

Are there any instructions on how to recover. Is this the efuse mess? has anyone been able to recover it from this state. No lights.. I have two dead boxes now
Looks like I am in the same boat. Pretty much the same experience. Went to update it with the pre-rooted img. Already had the boot menu etc. Did the update, rebooted and noticed I had no root (and no wifi it seems but I didn't check this in the settings).
Went to install the bueller-fixsusdcard.zip, rebooted to recovery and nothing, no logo, no LED. Plugged in via USB-A and like others I got a drive popped up.
Loaded up eMMC RAW 1.2.1.0 found online. I tried "writing" boot and recovery (boot.img from the pre-rooted rom, and recovery from CWM) and it made no difference. Not sure if I was doing it wrong or not though.
This is how I would do it:
Basically I would click browse below "write" and select the boot.img from my pre-rooted update.
I would then "read partition structure" and select only boot
Select the "boot" preset
Select "write"
I did this for both recovery & boot (with the correct selections). I restart and nothing is different. Where is the "aboot.img" file? I tried boot.img and boot_unlocked.img and no difference.
Any guidance would be great.

Hi all,
I'm in the same boat as the rest. I actually posted in Rbox's thread last night asking for help.
Like everyone, I had CWM, unlocked bootloader, bootmenu, prerooted roms.... after successful install of latest rom, could not load Home screen so I soft rebooted from the Settings menu.
After the reboot, bricked.
I don't have any Linux experience, and attaching to my Windows computer, I see the drive with a single folder.
I'll monitor here, but I think I'm SOL. So looking for a new android box. Ugh.
Thanks for any help.

You should had asked questions before you did it, from what I understand from your post you installed last rooted OS5 image using CWM (OS3) without installing TWRP first even so tread specify the whole procedure on how to get there:

I think you're correct bula. the issue probably is for those many of us who used the guides on aftvnews.com, he doesn't mention twrp in the series of steps to perform the latest os update. i only had clockwork, not twrp.
many thanks to anyone who can provide assistance to those of us who are bricked.

Hi Bula,
If you google "amazon Fire TV custom rom" first website you get is aftvnews. I believe I used his guild to root my ATV 2 years ago.
http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-install-a-custom-rom-image-on-the-amazon-fire-tv/
He does list a good amount of procedures on the site.
CWM
http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-install-clockworkmod-custom-recovery-on-the-amazon-fire-tv/
Steps on how to install Rbox Boot Menu
http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-install-a-kernel-boot-menu-on-the-amazon-fire-tv/
BusyBox, ADB, how to verify hash, ect...
I do not have TWRP on my box which seems probably the reason why it bricked following this guide.
~E
Fair enough but none of these posts mention anything regarding OS5, they are old posts that apply to OS3 only. I know this site very well ano you should had looked for latest guides on how to update to OS5 . Info was there.
http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-install-twrp-custom-recovery-on-a-rooted-fire-tv-1/
My FireTV bricked and I had installed TWRP 3.0.0-7 and 5.2.1.1_r1 successfully. I was up and running for 15 minutes, installed Kodi via adb and took a quick break after receiving notification that the app installed successfully. I come back and notice that my WiFi is dropping out on the FireTV so I unplug the power to hard reset it. I plug the power back in and now I get no video or light.
I have two FireTV's, I followed the same process for both and the first one I updated is still working flawlessly. Not sure what happened to the 2nd one.
Please help. Killed my Firetv (AFTV1)

Hi, same problem here :crying:. I read the guides and bricked it by mistake. My aftv was rooted, fully unlocked and with CWM. I downloaded the needed pre-rooted roms and also TWRP. Yesterday I installed all the stuff following the guides, however, at the end my aftv stopped showing the colorful amazonfiretv logo animation. So I removed TWRP and installed CWM again, wanted to start from scratch. Probably I mixed-up the different rom files while renaming to rom.zip, I don't know, but it seems I pushed the newest via adp and installed it with CMW. The firetv was working and I saw the 5.2 was installed, damn! I knew about my mistake then.
After restart: NO BOOTING - NOT LOGO - NO WHITE LED :crying:.
So, same problem here, any idea how to bring it to life again?
Same here, installed latest rom (bueller-5.2.4.1-rooted_r1) with TWRP, was working fine until I tried Netflix, it didn't start up so I booted -> after that no white led, no power.....
Any update? It sounds like the efuse incident (wrong bootloader/ROM match up), but mine was not detected by PC using A-A cable. I'm sure the PC works with this AFTV and cable is good (used these to fastboot unbrick this ftv right before it went dead).

[FIRMWARE] Help! Bootlooping on Optimizing Apps after flashing stock firmware

Hello!
I purchased a Galaxy S6 two days ago and have yet to really use it...
I wanted to have a fully fresh phone so i flashed the latest firmware available to me (USA, Sprint, sm-g920p, zerofltespr, QB1)
Everything flashed as normal (not my first S6, I'm familiar with ODIN) but upon booting up the first time it goes to a blue screen that says initializing update.. then the progress bar goes to 32% and then says erasing.. then it reboots and i get to optimizing apps (starts at some random number 8 of 33, 13of 33, 12 of 33, etc.) and then reboots and goes back to optimizing apps again... it's maddening!!!
I've tried at least 5 different firmwares, all with the same result. Always to 32% then bootloop on optimizing apps
I've tried using the PIT file for my phone along with flashing the firmwares, same result
When i try to enter recovery to wipe cache or factory reset, i get the blue screen that says initializing update then i get some yellow exclamtion warning for a second and i get to recovery... i wipe cache, reboot... same boot loop result
Back to recovery, factory reset, reboot... same boot loop result trying to optimize apps.
I've tried adb sideloading a couple different ROMS but those just bootloop at the Galaxy S6 logo splash screen.
I've run out of ideas for what to do to fix this.. every great once in awhile ill get to the welcome screen and itll get to Setting up your device for first time use... then itll just reboot and go right back to that screen... i havent been passed that once...
Please any ideas would really be great. Thanks

If you get this going, please send me (or post here via file attach) the file: /proc/last_kmsg -- you need to be rooted to get that so hopefully you are. To get this right, you need to copy that file to /sdcard (or somewhere there) and only on the first successful boot.
I want to see what is complaining so I can (hopefully) write a fix for future sufferers that won't require the reboot til dead game.
