Galaxy Nexus (US) - common now... - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

damn it all.. what is the actual release date?.. I highly doubt it will be Black Friday because then everyone'll say "why no Black Friday discount price?"..
and please tell me there is no 16GB version... that it was a joke and it's going to be the 32GB for $299.99/contract

Your title implies that the device is now common, but the actual post talks about how the device isn't around yet... so which one is it?

Must be a typo... come on now

This phones going to bionic itself if it isn't released soon the tech world moves to fast to wait for devices. Bionic was obsolete at release. I want one and ics looks ok not mind blowing ok but I'm not waiting to much longer the rezound. Will get an ics port I'm sure.

the Bionic & it's release date was a total disaster. This phone however, will not be. Sure they are dilly daddlin' about with the release date, but have assured us it will be out before years's end.
I primarily want a confirmation on the 32GB model/pricing... and of course, since we all know about the RAZR & re:Zound release dates, it's just bizarre that Samsung is still not giving a definite answer on this one.

LOL you've got to be kidding me. Unless this is delayed 8 months, it won't "Bionic itself". Even if we knew what the release date of the GN was, it wouldn't be out yet (it won't come out before the 17th). How come everyone insists that it's delayed when we've never had a release date in the US?
And how can the first phone with ICS launched be obsolete at release? lol.

Maybe. Or it's a commentary about how quickly new devices peak, rapidly losing their cutting edge and instead becoming ubiquitous and mainstream. ;-)

There are already established threads discussing prices and release dates for the us version please post in there.

I think that samsung should pull out all the stops on ICS and let it loose to as many new devices that can support it as possible. Apple will give there phone the latest updates as long as the hard ware can handle it. Sammy in particular should give ICS quickly to compete with iPhones new iOs. Also to make up for the forever long wait we had to get this device. Ya they take forever but they must know its a problem and one would think there guys in samsung's "think tank" would let the company know where its lacking. Samsung's goal after all is to sell tons of phones and keep the customer happy as a fat kid at a ice cream truck ( yes there is a little pun in the ice cream comment )
xD ... Sad to say it... But the words samsung and update shouldn't be used together... Were already overdue on that LOS patch, original epic users are still on froyo as will...

no it does not
we are all hoping that Samsung tries to stick it to apple and dominate the US market similar to Nokia in the international market. I am as I think we all are that Samsung realizes that establishing support for top tier devices at minimum for 12th Months is what it is going to take. Now I say that we HOPE that they realize that, not saying they will. If that is the case, hopefully the community is strong enough to carry them otherwise for me its one and done on samsung.

isn't samsung now one of the google partners for timely updates? a bunch of manufacturers I think signed a deal with them saying they would release updates within 18 months of google releasing it(HTC, LG and others were also included). But once they release it, then the carriers usually take their sweet ass time pushing it out to us. from what I hear they gave sprint the los fix a while ago. It's sprint that's holding it up now
I believe they are on paper but I also believe that status has no bite to enforce it

Well at least Sammy isn't putting out updates like HTC. Every time I read about an update from HTC recently is says they are pulling it because of issues. Would rather an update be truly tested then just thrown at us with more problems then we started with.
Didn't the HTC Thunderbolt just get Gingerbread a year after it was released? The grass is not always greener on the other side.....
One thing that I don't see mentioned often is the fact the mobile phones are only a small part of Samsungs overall business; tv's, bd players, appliances, industrial equipment and more, are some of the things this gigantic company is involved with...Not defending their slow updating schedules and such, but, keep in mind that a company this big doesn't always focus the amount of attention on every division that they probably should.
I knew this coming into this phone, so, I am not really surprised in how long it has taken them to get updates out in the past, and, I doubt it will get much better moving forward, so don't expect them to be "first to market" when it comes to the latest and greatest software for this phone..
How about a los update?

who knows...In their minds, its probably not that big of a problem, and, they probably figure they are working at a proper pace for getting the issue addressed for the "small percentage" of people who have the issue...
I'm sure they are not sitting around in their board room worrying about LOS...

Isc on the way!

I currently work for an indirect sprint store. I been waiting for the ISC update. Well today my regional manager from sprint came in. He said last night around 3 am he got an update for ice cream sandwhich, and its real. He doesn't hack his phone or anything. So just wait a little bit and its coming out. I can tell you that it doesn't have face recognition, but its alot faster than the gingerbread that was on there.
Pictures or it didn't happen. Just kidding. That's great news. Happen to remember the build number. Just wondering because the first update might not contain face recognition.

I want to get excited too. Should our excitement be tempered by the fact that our device is a modified version of the GS2? The hardware is very different from the regular GSII from what I understand. Can't that cause delays?
Everyone called me a troll when I said I was going to get pushed an update early a few weeks ago, hopefully it is true, we will see. With the maintenance release just coming out though, I find it hard to believe ICS is just around the corner. Two otas in such a short period does not make much sense.

Our excitement should be VERY tempered. OG Epic users went through the same thing when GB was leaked for the i9000 (the int'l galaxy s). This time the leak is for the i9100 (the int'l galaxy s 2). I would not anticipate it will be of much use for us.

The hardware is identical to the international and att Gs2 except for the radios. Its easier said than done to convert it to CDMA without samsungs source code.

pardon my ignorance but the addition of the LED, the larger screen (even the ATT version has a different size screen and the epic is certainly larger than the international version) and the processor also varies doesn't it? Do those differences not make difference?

the screen doesn't matter they are the exact same screen just different sizes. Processor, CPU, gpu, wifi/bt chip, dac are all identical.
The LED is as simple as a kernel that supports it and a rom that uses it.

[Q] Are we, for sure, getting cm9?

I keep hearing we are, but I see no proof. Anything?
I am a total noob on here as well and I am not trying to be an ass when I say the following: Do a search!!
It is coming but from everything I have read on here from doing my own research, graphics drivers are a huge problem along with some other issues and CM9 will probably not see the light of day on the SGH-T989 until after Samsung releases their ICS build.
Also, it is never a good idea to ask for an ETA from any developer. From what I have heard from other people that especially holds true for Cyanogen.
I'm not asking for a ETA, I just want to know it's coming.

I can tell you that my TMO inside man told me that a internal doc was posted in the extranet that said the SGSII was getting ICS, but no date was included. With that said, when ICS is released on our phone we should see CM9 released within the month after that. Thats my guess.

Seeing how well Samsung's promises of software upgrades go (on the Behold and Vibrant) I do not count on ICS being available for them at any time in the near future and definitely not in Q1. I'm sure we'll see CM9 released before seeing an official version from Samsung. At this point, between Dewizzed and CM7 I am very happy with the device and can wait (or at least try to!!).

Well, Just bought myself a Galaxy Nexus

Finally. I ordered a Galaxy from EBay and now I have to wait 5-6 days for it to come. So I was wondering what has happened in the Galaxy Nexus community.
Oh I got the Sprint Galaxy Nexus (Toroplus I believe)
Also I was wondering if there were any good fast and stable Jellybean Roms.
So glad to become part of the Nexus Family.

Make the switch, you won't regret it. The specs on the Nexus are not only better (aside from camera and lack of sd slot) but development is light years ahead of the Amaze. There will of course be a new Nexus in the next 3-4 months, but it won't be $350 that's for sure. I came from an Amaze, and a T-Mo S2 and don't regret it one bit.

ugggghhh its just so irritating. they release phones with awesome specs but then you cant developed for it....
i hate it when people say "oh we'll get the latest update from cyanogen xx.xx...."
which is BULL****... considering half the time cyanogen wont ever be as refined or close to being complete on said device considering the lack of kernel source/lack of support from the manufacture... people buying non nexus devices are just being delusional. i have come to that conclusion. maybe manufacturers need to beef up the specs of their nexus device in the upcoming years
i believe the only non nexus device that i believed had a blossoming of development is the T-mobile G2\htc vision (i personally had that phone and had lots of fond moments flashing roms in)
other than that nexus all the way. i just wish htc makes the next nexus or there would be 5 of them in the future
HTC is becoming like Apple at the moment... Have to disagree with you on the "blossoming of development" part.
Have had the captivate. Which to this day. Is still going strong. And had a jellybean port before the gs3.
I had the epic touch 4g and the att gs2. Which are both still amazing phones going strong. And I am now onto the gs3 which isn't even 2 months old. (U.S release) and the number of ROMs and support for it is overwhelming.

+1 on that bro, I can't wait for it to be here. And for fun's sake I even spent all night watching an Unboxing video. The only time I have ever touched the Galaxy nexus was in a Sprint store. I looked at the Gnex Screen, then back at mine. Mine looked ****ty compared to the Galaxy Nexus' Gorgeous Screen Resolution. It looked so beautiful. Messed with the UI and felt so smooth. Well not that old cos It's still a good device that provides great user experience. I agree but when we're talking about such fast developing technology and update policy two years means a lot!
As far as I remember Google hasn't officially announced devices to get KLP yet so we can just speculate. But I wouldn't be much surprised if we didn't get it.

Gnex was released october 2011 iirc, that makes about 1,5 years, by the time android 5.0 comes the Gnex will almost be around for 2 years, yes.
Non-google phones of that age have been supported. There's more reason to thingk the GNex will be included than not.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
The Nexus S got Jelly Bean, I see no reason why the G Nex wouldn't get KLP
Didn't Google promise to support nexus devices over at least a set month period? Around the time ICS came out I want to say they said 18 months, or maybe more. Even if they don't, we will see ROMS worked up for them. And if you look at the old nexus devices, updates didn't happen due to hardware limitation. Unless they got some new feature that demands a hardware feature be on the phone and we don't have it, I doubt they will stop updating us.
In terms of CPU/GPU GNEX is unfortunately not even close to 2012 flagships (not to mention 2013 beasts). I am not saying that our TiOMAP won't be able to handle KLP but it can be used as an excuse. I hope not.

If your correct that means that KLP couldn't run on most mid end devices.

I am not saying anything. I've no idea about KLP's requirements. No idea what google decides either. We're all just speculating here. I was basically trying to figure out a possible excuse not to give us KLP. And CPU/GPU is GNexus' weakest side comparing to 2012 and newer handsets. That's all.
* In 2012 HTC One S with S4 Krait was also considered a mid end device.
It may or may not come out for our devices, technology advances pretty quickly, if we get it, good, if not, too bad, Google did not owe us anything.
