[N2E][1.1] TouchNooter 2.1.31 - Nook Touch Android Development

This Nooter is officially supported by The Nooter Project for Nook Simple Touch
I'm not adding certain things because I don't believe they should be available as part of a rooting kit designed to give users more control of their devices. Things such as additional readers or CPU Clocks are up to the user to install themselves and needlessly putting them in Nooter creates app bloat that a user may or may not want. You can always drop Apps you want into \nooter\data\app and they will install automatically when you root the device. This Nooter is designed with the sole purpose of opening up the possibilities of the device by giving users Root, Google Apps, and other Apps which make the device more usable as an android device than just an e-reader.
What it does:
Enables ADB via uRamdisk
Installs adbWireless
Installs Button Savior
Installs NookTouch Tools
Installs Amazon Marketplace
Installs su and Superuser.apk
Installs ADW + E-ink Friendly Theme
Installs Busybox & Busybox Installer/Uninstaller
Installs Gapps (Gmail, Market, Youtube, Others)
Installs NookColor Tools (To Enable Non-Market Installs)
System Files that get Modified:
/system/build.prop - Enabling Google Check In
packages.xml - Allows Gapps to install properly.
framework.jar - Should allow a proper Android ID to generate.
Changes:

November 20, 2011 -
Removed: GoLauncher, LiveWallPaper Picker, maybe some other stuff.
Added: New Market, ADW with Black Minimalist Theme, NookTouchTools.
New: Rooting Image
June 24, 2011 -

June 22, 2011 - Fixed: Script not running at boot.
June 20, 2011 - Initial Release
Before you begin:
You must already have a registered Nook Simple Touch
You must have a Gmail/Youtube linked Account. IF you used a Gmail account for B&N Registration you should use that one for this process.
You must either have dd (Linux) or WinImage (Windows) software.
You must have an external microSDCard reader or this will not work. Using the Nook Simple Touch can result in it becoming unusable (bricked).
You must have enough intelligence to follow instructions.
Let's get started:
Download TouchNooter from here: touchnooter-2-1-31.zip - Uploaded
Linux: Unzip and use dd if=touchnooter-xx-xx-xx.img of=/dev/sdcard (where xx-xx-xx is the version number)
Windows: Unzip and use WinImage to "Restore Virtual Hard Disk Image" to your SDcard.
Windows Alternative: https://launchpad.net/win32-image-writer/+download
If you wish to use Underclocking follow these steps
Download Underclock.zip from uploaded attachments
Unzip it and place the data folder in /nooter/
Check that the com.antutu.CpuMasterFree folder is in the /nooter/data/data folder
Check that com.antutu.CpuMasterFree.apk is in /nooter/data/app
Power off your Nook Simple Touch.
Insert TouchNooter SDcard into your Nook Simple Touch.
Power on your Nook Simple Touch.
You should see the new TouchNooter boot screen, follow all instructions.
That was the hard part, now to the simple stuff.
Upon boot unlock your screen.
At the Android Welcome Screen skip Sign In.
Enable Location Services when given the option.
Connect to Wifi and launch Youtube from ADW's App Drawer (Or the App Drawer of your Choice).
Click the Menu button (The right one in the middle of the status bar).
Select "My Channel" and Login using your Gmail Account.
Exit Youtube and Launch Gmail from ADW's App Drawer.
Sync your Gmail Account and Exit. (If it fails to sync that is fine.)
At this time Market fails and you must wait up to a day. Just check it every so often. Future updates should fix this.
Open up Market and Accept Terms and Service.
If you made it this far your nook should be successfully Rooted. Go Download an App to make sure.
Enable Non-Market Installs by running the NookColor Tools App.
If your Youtube fails to launch Uninstall and Reinstall Youtube from /data/app
Go to Settings > Device Info > SdCard > UnMount > Format

If I can find a way to do it without killing the device I will.

Works great
Hi
It works great, thanks.
Beside the full GApps do you know if there's a way today to get the Market working on a firmware 1.1 with TouchNooter 1.11.11 ?

Go through all the steps manually with something like noogie. The reason TouchNooter can't do it is because to get the script to run requires the the system to boot, replacing the files while the system is active will cause the system to crash when you go to reboot it to complete the steps for Market. Because of this to install Gapps you have to use a method that doesn't require the system to be active like Noogie.
Another method which would allow us to add Gapps, is if someone completed a version of CWM for Nook Touch.

Dear Gabriel,
somehow i gained working market on my Nook with 1.1. I used the older touchnooter with subplanted framework.jar and uRamdisk (wifi one). Then i've done all steps as in guide. Market however didn't saw any applications. I removed youtube app, and it started working! Then updated market to that one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15084704&postcount=51 using adb.
"adb install -r Vending.apk"
And right now i'm cool.

I've done the root for 1.1 manually, and it was a bit of a pain, so everybody should be thanking Gabrial here for streamlining the process a bit and not having to hunt down all the elements necessary to make a rooted Nook useful. (It's not actually difficult, but nobody has centralized *all* of the info even if much of it can be found in the Knowledge Base thread, including e.g. that you need Busybox even for something as simple as the cp command.)
domi.nos-
Is the -r switch for reinstallations any different than removing the old Vending.apk and then installing the new one? I still have not got market 100%; search won't work. Is it working for you? It's not really that big a deal because I only need a few apps but all the same it'd be nice...

Is it necessary to revert to original Nook ROM (the backup I've made before rooting the Nook Touch)?

No as a see it does not search. ;/ But in my opinion it is more important to find out why did my nook (any everyone elses' as i presume) disappear from pc market website.
But as i remember in the previous 1.01 software market couldn't do true way of searching, it was only showing most used searches.

This may sound dump, but I don't have a lot of knowledge with android yet.
This root is without any google apps, Can I download the google apps apks and install them on my device?

Dark_hawk,
From what I read from Gabrial, the only way to install Gapps if when nook is booting, and there is no safe way as from now. I'm still checking, though.
My experience so far? 1.1, touchnootered with 1.11.11, backup recovered with titanium backup pro (which worked quite well, I might add), and besides market, everything else is working?
I'm looking for info on how to install Gapps, or market at least, but no luck yet. Gabrial mentioned something about using noogie, but I don't even know where to look for Gapps version that may work on Nook STR>

How can I install Side-loaded APK?
I think, its dumb NB question... but I can not figure out, how I can install side-loaded APKs... I copied APKs to Nook but just not find a way to install them on nook... Is this something simple ? or not that simple as I think?

WORKS WITH 1.1.0 and gapps!

The Easy method above worked perfectly with my new nook running 1.1.0.
all I would add is that I got search working in the market by toggling "allow non market apps" in Nook Tools app, then installing the vending.apk file from my sd card with ES file explorer as an application. just select yes when it asks you to replace system app.
To get ES file explorer to begin with, I scrolled thru the whole list of top free apps, which took awhile.
Apps that I was able to install and work:
ES file explorer, Facebook, Google reader, Google voice, XDA app, Opera mobile, Opera mini, Google+, Quickpic and Paint easy.
Thanks to everyone for all the hard work that made it easy for a N00b like me to root and customize my NST!

+1 It seems ES File Explorer is not installed!

Well, I followed the recipe:
- Restored
- Resetted
- Updated to 1.1.0
- Touchnootered with 1.6.24 and framework and uramdisk for 1.1.0
- Three locked boots (at least 5 minutes each)
- When tried without SD, got back to regular nook!!!!
I did register, though, after reset. Would that make a difference???
Gotta try.

I've tried to install ESFile Explorer through browser but with no results. Besides, browser crashes when, for instance, I try to write something on google.

One way to side-load apk's

The way I did it was to copy apk's to my SD card, then download a file explorer/manager app from the market (my personal favorite is ES file explorer), which allows you to view the contents of your SD card, and select apk's to install.

It sounds like you did it the exact same way I did. Just to make sure did you delete the old Framework and uramdisk files, then copy/rename their replacements to match the original files? i.e. framework.jar and uRamdisk

I think the easiest way to get it would be from the market. if you haven't updated the vending.apk file to fix searching the market then you would have to use the category buttons at the top of the market to browse for it and install it.

Yes, I deleted the old version, installed uRamdisk usb 1.1 and framework 1.1.jar and renamed them properly (same name as erased files).
Did it all over again, no registering, and same result: after running for 3 times, went back to regular nook STR!!!

Forget about the restart the process three times, do it like this:
1) Use nookRestore to restore /system.
2) Erase and Deregistered to wipe /data
(If it dosnt let you, force it shutting down your nook, then starting it up, and when the screen flickers press right and left bottom buttons, hold for 5+ seconds).
3) Register, or not, as you preffer.
4) Apply 1.1 firmware update.
5) Open the TouchNooter 1.6.24 image and inside the nooter folder, search and substitude the uRamdisk for this one http://www.multiupload.com/CJ981FWPJG
and framework.jar for this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19201466&postcount=352.
6) Use the new TouchNooter 1.6.24 to root your device. Follow the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1132693
If it dosnt work, try again until it works.
7) Continue with registering: Youtube (401 error) --> GMail --> Market.
8) Download adb, and unzip it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124160&page=6
download this vending apk:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124160&page=6
and sqlite3:
http://www.sqlite.org/sqlite-shell-win32-x86-3070900.zip
copy the apk and sqlite3 tothefolderyouunzippedadb/platform-tools , open cmd and then:
cd tothefolderyouunzippedadb/platform-tools
adb connect yournooktouchip
Now we are going to enable non market apps use my method, or what madmachinist said:
adb shell
mount -o rw,remount -t ext2 /dev/block/mmcblk0p5 /system
adb pull /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db settings.db
sqlite3 settings.db "update secure set value=1 where name='install_non_market_apps';"
adb push settings.db /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
adb reboot
now when NST reboots:
cd tothefolderyouunzippedadb/platform-tools
adb connect yournooktouchip
adb install Vending.apk
adb reboot
You are done, everything should work now.

[HOWTO] Fix Appbrain fast web installer (using android_id)

Hi, after the update to froyo (in my case JP6) i found out the appbrain fast web installer wasn't working anymore. After some reading, it seems that the android_id (which this app uses) is set to a fixed number during the froyo update. This means the app cannot find a unique android_id to send the 'install instruction' to.
Source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8604909#post86049
1. Make sure and backup your /dbdata/databases /com.android.providers.settings /settings.db file
Then in ADB or connectbot type the following
su
cd /dbdata/databases/com.android.providers.settings sqlite3 settings.db
sqlite> insert into secure (’name’, ‘value’ ) values (’android_id’,'device_id_goes_here’);
sqlite> .exit
Reboot
note 'device_id_goes_here’is your 16 digit HEX device ID
Click to collapse
This fix seems to do the job, but i can't get it to work. Probably because i made a mistake with the usage of su and shell etc.
So i tried to fix it another way and this is how i did it (similar to the other fix):
1) With RootExplorer (or similar) navigate to: /dbdata/databases/com.android.providers.settings/
2) Make a backup of the file (by copying it)
3) Change the permissions of the file (using RootExplorer) ,so that it can be moved/sent to your pc using Dropbox,Gmail,Bluetooth etc. In this example i have moved it to my c:/ folder on windows.
4) When the file is on your pc. Run windows command (cmd) and navigate (using cd) to your /android/tools folder.
5) Execute: 'sqlite3 c:/settings.db
6) Now type in (after sqlite>): insert into secure (’name’, ‘value’ ) values (’android_id’,'device_id_goes_here’);
Note: 'device_id_goes_here' is a random (so you can choose whatever you want) 16 digit number.
7) Type: .exit and close the cmd box.
8) copy the settings.db file back to your phone and move it back to /dbdata/databases/com.android.providers.settings/
Choose yes when overwrite prompt pops up.
9) Reboot your device
10) Register your device using the 'Fast web installer' app on your phone.
11) DONE! You're ok again to install apps OTA using the appbrain market!
Click to collapse
Note, if you don't know how to do step 4-7, read some articles about how to set up and use adb (since that also contains the sqlite3 tool)
I hope this helps for people having problems with this.

Looks good. One question, how do you find out what your original device ID is? I have a UK unbranded GT-I9000... what's the ANDROID ID for that?
Ah, you just make one up. I used SQLite Editor to just edit the file, made up my own number and rebooted. Works fine now. A bit simpler than your suggestion above.

That should indeed be easier
In the post I refer to in the captivate forum, there is mentioned an app to find out your android_id. But to know your original id, you would first have to reflash to an older firmware where the id is not touched. But it is true, you can just make up your own 16digit number. Only some games with online highscores fixed to the id instead of an account could benefit to know your old id, I think.
Worked for me!

shud be easier to just download "Android ID Changer" from market after installing sqlite3. does the same trick.. but more user-friendly for people not so comfortable to use adb shell.

Hmm maybe Iḿ retarded, but how do I install sqlite3 to my phone?
No clue what he meant with installing sqlite3, I just downloaded the said Android ID Changer, made up and applied an ID and now Fast Web Installer works just fine.
I don't know if it is just coincidence or due to this, but before that I had tons of "download unsuccessfull" errors with the Market. Downloads failed nine out of ten times. Now, with changed ID, it works flawlessly again! My phone runs on JP6 Voodoo Doctor Edition 2.1.
Thanks for this advice!
I just installed the ID changer, entered a new code and rebooted, but the ID had not changed..
first time i tried it i got an "error editing databases".... do you have to change permissions to the folder/directory for the settings.db?

same problem here....
The only thing remotely related I could think of is that I had my system folder mounted as R/W with SGS Toolbox. But does that affect dbdata?
Check SGS Toolbox on mine and system was already mounted as RW...
I have tried changing the permissions with Root Explorer, to dbdata etc. but after rebooting, they are back as they were?
Beats me... but I can now confirm that the "download unsuccessfull" errors are back in place. It was just a coincidence after all, and shows that the blame is on Google, not any specific ROM or mod.
Fast Web Installer still worked though, even made it past the "unsuccessfull" barrier.
Wonderful fix!
Hanness, have you considered reporting this to Samsung? I think having the proper Android ID set and retained during firmware updates is quite important.

According to this, this may be due to ro.serialno not being set in build.prop

Android ID Changer did the trick for me . (I have not done anything with sqlite3.)
I used http://www.dbsoftlab.com/database-editors/database-browser/overview.html to edit settings.db as explained.
Works like a charm. Downloads & Updates are flying in!
Edit: After few downloads it stucks again, I deleted Market data. Works again. Bugs everywhere ...

Just curious, what's the advantage of having the superuser app when the device is rooted out of the box?
I look forward to seeing what else can happen with this device, and would be happy to test if needed.

although its already in non-secure mode, the apps that run "su" dont recognise it, so the root app is required together with its "su" command.
and it actually also have the advantage of you being in control of which apps get root access..
although your "adb shell" is in a root shell, the apps running still has non-su rights to the system, otherwise its would be pretty open as well and without much security.
I went ahead and applied version 1.0a over 1.0. I didn't take the time to do a backup so I didn't wipe/factory reset first. Everything went well, but calendar still gets a force close upon launch (not a problem for me, I don't need it). I may go ahead and wipe it and reinstall 1.0a, but I'm very happy with it as is for now.
Thanks again for making this rom! I'll hit that donate button for sure.
Thanks Dexter, tossed a donation your way.
I couldn't get root access back so I'm rerunning the update after a full wipe of data and cache. I will let you know how it goes.

Couldnt install the su zip file it put on my sd either..
I couldn't get SU to update either (placed on SD card as update.zip, but no joy). Just for grins I tried Z4root too, it went through the motions but no root. I tried to use Titanium Backup to install busybox. It downloaded the binaries but nothing changed.

I cant see what the problem is... dex any ideas?
I may flash the offocial update, reinstall the modified build.prop, and reinstall market.
The was a post somewhere in the BJ's 299 thread about busybox not installing correctly due to differences in the directory structure on this device, which caused loss of root.

This didn't work... other than this superuser permissions being messed up everything else works stellar!
If we don't have anything soon, I'll flash back and poke around with the modified build.prop on the official build.
Edit: Reinstalled the official elocity update and got my root back, installed gapps, now updating build.prop. Hopefully this gets me all the market fixes minus that Su thing. Superuser app is available in the market too. Report back soon.
So you're basically just using the build prop settings out of this rom with the factory update? I went back to version 1.0 for now.

Yeah pretty much!... did you not have the SU issues with version 1.0? If not I'll just update to that. I can't get Bank of America or Tasker to install even using the build.prop from the ROM, there's something other than the fingerprint in this ROM making the magic happen.
Titanium back up reports root access with V1.0 and I can get the # at the prompt in terminal. Lots of other apps that wouldn't install with the eLocity update install just fine with it too.
im a little confused..
i added the "su" command to the build, it never was there...
i added Superuser.apk as well.. and if you're trying to add those on top , you might corrupt it, and also,
VERY IMPORTANT filesystem has 0 bytes free, so any copying will probably corrupt the su command or other copied files..
Does this rom support ad-hoc wifi tether?

[MOD] Hulu Hack GB/ICS 11.1.115.12

Ok guys, so I absolutely love Hulu and other legit TV sites, some of which prohibit mobile devices based on a "flash id" similar to what you have with a User Agent string for the browser. It is based on this ID that it prohibits mobile phones from accessing content such as hulu and HBO (I think?). With this mod your phone will appear as though it is a PC running flash and I believe it also modifies your version number to be something like 99.9.999.99 for sites that try and check the version number. I also must make sure to give credit where credit is due. Credit goes to imneveral0ne who posted the modified lib files in the Thunderbolt forums http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...6#post12433036.
His mod stopped working because Gingerbread (and 10.3) copies the lib files from the APK itself back into the lib folder (/data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib/) on boot, thus require the mod be redone every reboot. I simply took his mod, wrote a simple script that installs the hacked lib files to /data/flash/ at first for storage, modifies permission of /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib/ so that it can be written to by the script, and also installs a "run on boot" script at /system/etc/init.d/01-fixflash.sh which will copy the hacked lib files from /data/flash to /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib/. It also adds Hulu Bookmark app (1.0) to /data/app.
REQUIREMENTS:
Kernel with init.d support (most custom kernels with root support) and root
Busybox (for running the copy commands. If you don’t have it, install ‘busybox installer’ from the market once you are rooted)
Root explorer (recommended, not required)
NOTE: I have developed this file FOR gingerbread.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Install latest flash player (11.1.115.12) from the market FIRST and be sure to uncheck automatic updates (and don't manually either)
Make sure busybox is installed. One way to test this is to type cp –help in ADB and see if it can run the command. If it does, you’re good to go.
Next, simply flash the zip. Wipe cache/dalvik if you want (I don't believe it's necessary, although again, this is my first time and for whatever reason the script doesn't seem to want to run on its own the first time)
Upon first reboot, you MAY be lucky enough that it simply just works and you’re all set.If you still get the “Hulu not available for your platform” error, simply use either root explorer or adb to run the script for the first time manually. In root explorer, navigate to /system/etc/init.d, tap on S98fixflash and select “execute”. In ADB, navigate to /system/etc/init.d and type ‘sh S98fixflash’. Wait a sec for it to run, then try Hulu again. It should be working immediately (without a reboot required) AND the script should then run correctly on subsequent reboots.
Like I said this is my first "product" I've been able to make available to the community and am more than open to suggestions, criticisms and ideas of how I can make this script better. Enjoy guys!
EDIT: If you do have issues with the script not running on every reboot, simply install "Script Manager" from the market, navigate to /system/etc/init.d, select S98fixflash and check the "run on boot" checkbox.
NOTE: ICS Only version now (least as far as I know). May work on others, please let me and others know if it does work on GB
File is now attached to post due to multiupload being unavailable -
UPDATE 6/26/2012 for 11.1.115.12
Note: after more feedback it seems using busybox installer from the market helps if running the script, even manually does nothing.
ahh too much to do
cba
Sorry, lots of explaining. If your rooted just update flash to latest in market, uncheck auto update adobe flash, then flash the zip. Should just work like it did on my gsII.

I was going thru your update-script. What does this line do?
Code:

I did not find a 01-fixflash.sh in /system/etc/init.d folder, only S98fixflash?

update 9/5/2011 for 10.3.186.6 AND hopefully fixed data mounting issues on certain devices so it works easily on CWM on more devices
NOTE: Latest update includes a brand new flashplayer.so files freshly edited, so no more issues with youtube in the browser, and uses TRUE flash 10.3.186.6 libraries for increased performance (no longer based on 10.2)
does nothing no matter what on kh3 deodexed
I'm using it now on litening 6.1 (kh3) just fine with nymphetamine kernel. This thread is also in the epic 4g forums. Troubleshooting instructions are there a well as the op. Understand what the mod does by reading, then find out where its getting hung up. I guarantee if you read you'll find your problem. Sorry but I keep having to help people read my own posts... First guesses, reflash, check to see files were installed, run busybox installer,.try another kernel with working init.d support... Run script manually?
Nice work. Any way of getting this to work for HC on the Xoom?
Maybe, try it let me know. Our buy me a 10.1

LOL! Nah didn't work for me.
Actually I feel I remember it working fire xoom.maybe try the manual troubleshooting in the op. find and replace libflashplayer.so with what's in the zip
it won't let me even flash the file says:
E: Error in /sdcard/gb_hack_flash_hulu10.3.186.6.zip
(Status 0)
Installation aborted.
all you need to do to get it to work is to extract the libflashplayer.so from the zip the op posted and copy it to (and replace) the libflashplayer.so in
Code:
/data/flash/libflashplayer.so
and
Code:
/data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib/libplayerflash.so
do this using root explorer
this also enables crackle as well
there is no need to run a script
Beautiful, tried so many things in the past, and this works beautifully! Thanks!
Um, at the risk of sounding like a complete euro-dummy: What is Hulu, what does this hack do? Perhaps a bit of description in the first post?

What it does:
Enables ADB via uRamdisk
Installs su and Superuser.apk
Installs Busybox and sqlite3

Officially make it compatible with 1.1.2
Check /system version and proceed install, if not force update to 1.1.2
Make a 1 step process.
Automatically backup and zip /factory to SDcard, to avoid having to make a full backup before rooting, and to use in conjunction with Touch-Formatter
Minimal zips install my stripped down repack of Gapps.
Fulltouch zips include the complete package of Gapps.
All W zips install ADB wireless Uramdisk.
All U zips install ADB USB Uramdisk + ADB widget to enable wireless adb at need.
All X zips include NookTouchTools + Xorzone's mods, for more details on this, read (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1289894).

Hi,
thanks for the guide. I have a dumb question. Could you please provide the correct sqlite3 url to use for the download?
Thanks.
Eded,
All I can say is that I am truly sorry. The nooter didn't work because I was dumb enough not to read instructions properly. Now I added the uramdisk to the nooter/boot directory, not root directory!!!!!!!!!!!
Now it worked, and I restored the apps I downloaded with titanium backup pro.
Thing is: market (with vending.apk installed over original market) doesn't reach the server properly when I press "my apps", and I am still not able to find my device on the android market in my computer.
On the rest, it works! Thanks for everyone who gave tips!!!
I already rooted my nook with touchnooter for 1.1 can I use the instructions to just install market or do I have to start from scratch.

You have no need to start from scratch
You can use this method to install gapps.
Just remember to delete the other apps as launcher, etc, that you have allready installed from the package I posted.

Not sure what you mean?
Nook partition (6) is 252MB and Data partition (8) is 841MB
There's no partition "reserved" for B&N contents, it uses both and so can you.
Code:
Number Start End Size Type File system Flags
1 16.4kB 79.7MB 79.7MB primary fat32 boot, lba
2 79.7MB 96.5MB 16.8MB primary fat32 lba
3 96.5MB 296MB 199MB primary ext2
4 296MB 1942MB 1646MB extended
5 296MB 598MB 302MB logical ext2
6 598MB 849MB 252MB logical fat16 lba
7 849MB 1101MB 252MB logical ext3
8 1101MB 1942MB 841MB logical ext3
Yes but i can't put my files on the b&n reserved partition.
So if i want to put only my contents on the nook i have only 250 mb.
Right?

Sure you can, but only the Nook partition is auto mounted trough USB.
If you want to put files in /data/media you can use adb or some filemanager app.
thanks Ros87, thats just another reason to nooter my NST.
I'm still on 1.0 and my plan is to:
1. backup 1.0 with the help of the link in your sig.
2. upgrade to 1.1. from B&N servers
3. Follow the guide in this thread and nooter it manually...
Smart? or do you have any tips for me?

Thanks.

If you still want to resize the Nook partition, here's a Linux way:
As always, make sure you backup your Nook before fiddling with stuff like this
Prerequisites:
1: NST booted with Noogie
2: USB attached and recognized in Linux (usually /dev/sdb)
Make a copy of Nook and Data files (ignore socket warnings)
Code:
#mkdir tmpnook tmpdata
#mount /dev/sdb6 tmpnook
#mount /dev/sdb8 tmpdata
#tar cf tmpnook.tar tmpnook
#tar cf tmpdata.tar tmpdata
#umount tmpnook
#umount tmpdata
Delete existing and create new partitions:
Code:
# fdisk /dev/sdb

Eded,
Even though I am unable to download through my computer, I can perfectly download from Nook. A few weeks ago, I lost that capacity on 1.0.1, and that is why I was so interested in running the 1.1.0 rooted.
Once again, thank you all (Gabrial, Eded, Xorzone - great nooktouchtools comeback, Ros, and everyone else that helped me).

[*]When the NST reboots select go launcher as your predefined launcher, skip google registration and try first to open and register on Youtube (Youtube may fail, dont worry) then GMail and then Market, if Gmail fails, dont panic, reboot and try again, dont start all the proces agian, just power cycle, allways use the same google account.

I was able to register on YouTube, but I keep getting the register your google account screens with both Gmail and Market over and over again. I've rebooted and tried registering about a dozen times, no success.
I followed directions exactly, could there be something I'm missing?
Hi,
If I well remember, this is a know issue I already faced off on my notion ink adam. You have to delete your registered account in your settings.
Power off then power on again your device.
Register again.

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried to do this but got a message "Barnes and Noble failed to deregister device" or something. Then I tried to return to the launcher and my Button savior failed.

[GSM + CDMA] BeatsleigherRootHelper/Gainer| Gain root acces the easy way, with this!!

Welcome to the original thread, of Beatsleigher's Root Helper!!
This program is completely free, with no Xtra options for donators...
What this program will do:Well this program is designed for beginners, and advanced users. It has several modes; If you like to do everything yourself, then Ok, you can. If however you want Windows to do everything, it will.
If you need to setup ADB drivers, then follow the steps, in the ADB -> Help menu!!
List of features:Several Reboot options,
Backup/Restore
Unlock bootloader (fastboot)
Relock bootloader (fastboot)
Root (ADB+fastboot)
Flash recovery (fastboot)
All-in-one solutions
Complete make over, now using a GUI!
Very explicit detailing of what the program is currently doing!
Install drivers - (USB + ADB/fastboot drivers)
List of ROMs/kernels
Help menus
What's to expect:In-program E-Mail subscription, to get notified about updates.
Better IE Engine for XDA Link.
Context menus, for faster checking of radiobuttons.
Maybe adding an advert or two. Because I am now slowly but surely needing more money, for phones, so that I can program programs like this, for them.
Maybe re-add the main menu music. But, with music, that is a bit more calming... And not House ^^
A fully functional fastboot menu.
A user experience program, so I can collect feedback!!
Working progressbars.... (-.-")
FAQ:Q:When installing the drivers, why do I need to change my system configuration?
A:You need to configure your machine, to notice the device, but to leave it alone, instead of looking for, and downloading drivers for it. This just confuses the computer, meaning you can't do anything in the bootloader, because Windows Update doesn't yet have the needed drivers...
Q: Why have you gone over to making a GUI? The batch files, were just fine...
A: I'm going over to making a GUI, because it is easier to use, less work. And I have the option, to just, drag & drop a button, write two lines of code, to make the button functional and then it's just a matter of creating the batch file, converting it to an EXE. Easy as pie. Whereas, with the batch files, to create one more option, you have to write 6 lines of code, then the batch file, and then half of the stuff doesn't work properly, because you didn't debug... If you know, what I mean...
Q: Why are there so many files???
A: This program needs so many files, so it can perform different processes/options/tasks
. But it isn't hard, to find out, what file, does which job
Q: Why is there only a version for windows??
A: I am working on a version, for Mac users, but it will take some time. I'm glad to be nearly finished, with the Windows version
Q: I want to donate to you, but you won't allow it. Why?
A: I don't accept any donations, because I only wrote the program to flash files on to your phone... I don't want to take credit for things, that other people did.
Instead of trying to donate to me, donate to chainfire, ChainsDD, and Kousik Dutta; for creating such brilliant recoverys, Apps (like superuser and ROM Manager) and ROMs...
BTW: If you really want to donate (which you won't ), you can send me some albums ^^ I need house music, to work.. And all my songs/albums have been listened dead -.-
Q: Do you mind if I use this program for commercial use, and post videos(tutorials) on Youtube?
A: As long as you DO NOT create mirrors, and let me know, I'm not that fussed... But then please post the link of the video to me, so that I can tell you if I like the way you did it, or not.
Q: When are you gonna stop talking about things, that don't interrest anyone (the FAQ)??
A: Now, but still thx for reading, other good questions will be posted here, aswell...
Thanks:Many thanks to Kouschik Dutta for creating the recoveries for near-to all Android phones. Yo the man!
And not to forget the awsome app: ROM Manager ^^
Thanks to my good friend Accendare (baddinski), for creating the splashscreen. I appreciate it much
Thanks to Google, for creating the AOSP, for the great developers, to create even greater ROMs, for us!
Also, thanks to Google, for buying Android, and making suh a (rather) bug-free OS!!
If I forgot anyone, please let me know immediatly!!
Downloads:
If you want to flash stock firmware, you will need to install this. This contains all the neccessary files/folders you need:
GSM: to be downloaded, by clicking this...

If you want to see more, download it
Installer:The installer will install to your C:\ drive. Some older scripts, are still working with "%homedrive%" so, to make sure, that everything is working, please make sure, that your homedrive is your C:\ drive. Or, if you have a seperate C:\ drive (like me), copy a copy, of the "Beatsleigher_root_helper" folder, to your homedrive. Then it should do the trick. By the tiome, the program is released properly (full) all scripts should be working with "C:\".
Should you have NOT got a C:\ drive, because your homedrive is named differently/you deleted the C:\ partition, see: installation help.
EDIT: The installer has been split in two!! They are both in an ISO image... Once mounted, the secondary installer will run (setup.exe). Just open the virtuall CD-ROM, and run "Install.exe"
Requests:If you have any requestes (features, etc.), please PM me, or send me an E-Mail!!

Installation help:
Not much can go wrong, when install9ing this program.
Mostly, the reasons, of failure, to use this program, are due to:
Not having a C:\ drive.
Not copying a copy of the root folder, to hamedrive, if C:\ is not the homedrive, of your windows machine.
Tutorial 1:
Problem: I installed the program, but my homedrive is not C:\. I installed to C:\, but I can't use half of the program.
Well, first of all; sorry, for this. I could of said this earlier... I forgot to edit the scripts, to use ONLY the C:\ drive, so it useshalf the C:\ drive, and half your homedrive. But, that's why I posted this tutorial.
It's quick & easy ^^
Tutorial:
Install the program, to your C:\ drive. Close the installer, and re-open it.
Once back in the installer, set the installation path to your homedrive (Where Windows is installed).
Install to that directory, and done
It should now work ^_^
Tutorial 2:
Problem, I don't have a C:\ drive, and the ROM-Full/Less version, isn't available for download... What to do??
This is also no problem!! With a few, simple clicks of your mouse, we will fix this minor problem
Tutorial:
Type following key-combination, on your keyboard; START(WIN)+R.
The "Run" prompt should now pop up.
In the RUN prompt, type: "diskmgmt.msc" and it enter.
Once the disk manager pops up, shrink your homedrive(or, if you have unalocated disk space, which is 3GB or more, right click on that)
Shrink your homedrive, about 3GB. If you can, allocate more space, because you will need quite some space, because of stock ROMs/custom ROMs/kernels and backups.
To shrink, right-click on the partition and select "Shrink Volume". Enter this amount, to shrink: 3072 MB, that should be 3GB. Like I said, feel free to allocate more space.
Now you should see a black field. This is unallocated disk space. Right click on this space and select" Create simple partition" Make sure, you create the exact space, you shrunk, other wise, you will have some unallocated space, on your HDD and this can cause problems, if unnoticed.
Name the partition : C:. Wait, for the Diskman. to create the partition (can take up to 5 Minutes, for that amount of space, depending on size of HDD, CPU clock speed and amount of RAM).
Now, just install Beatsleigher's Root Helper to your C:\ drive and again, to your homedrive. Done! You can now use Beatsleigher's Root Helper.
If you should notice any other problems, please let me know, so I can solve them.
EULA:Please read the EULA, should you not have, during installation. Or, you are interested in installing the prgram.
There is vital information, in this text document!
This post will be used for announcing updates and changelogs!
The first update, to be announced here, will contain some CDMA kernels and ROMs... They will all get QR-Codes, so you can download them directly on to your Android, if neccesary!
Only use this package to root your phone and flash recovery!!
The other images/ZIPs are on their way!! Before I get told off, for not telling you this.... I am making a package, that will delete all GSM files!
This reduces size, and no one gets confused!!
Cool. 400mb is the reason I wouldn't download it. Opinions:
Remove the extra crap. Include just your code.
Create a folder /flash and instruct people to just throw stuff in there. Then code your app to read and list the contents of that folder (If that's even possible).
Your program can't be more then a meg or two itself. This way people can just download your tool and flash whatever. It then won't ever be "outdated" with old files. Streamline it and it'll catch on.
