[ROM][SPRINT][CDMA][12.03.2011] - etvROM - based on EF17, CM7, and others - Galaxy Tab Android Development

Features/Info:
- Gingerbread
- Debloated and snappy
- Clockworkmod recovery
- Rooted
- Touchwiz
- Latest Superuser, Terminal Emulator
- Infrastructure mode WIFI tether (use Galaxy S or Epic 4G profile)
- Ad-hoc wifi connectivity
- Email, SMS, and other apps from Mainline CM7
- Everything works, designed to be a daily driver
- Other small improvements
Instructions:
- Direct download here: www.evanvaughan.com/filesvc.aspx?fileid=F91F7142F7FB4E4B (MD5 checksum: 17bd976c28226adebf17b0a2df00f29a)
- Flash with Heimdall (included in zip). If you're coming from an earlier version of etvROM you can flash only the factoryfs component. This will keep your apps and settings intact.
- If you did a full flash and not just factoryfs: When flash is complete, Tab will reboot into recovery. You need to wipe data/cache, and reboot. If you only flashed factoryfs, Tab will reboot and you'll be ready to roll.
DISCLAIMER: I did not write any code for this ROM. It's sourced from EB17, CM7 Mainline, and other places. All I did was put everything together into a Heimdall flashable package because there were no ROMS out there for the Tab that had what I wanted. I don't deserve any credit for this; it's mostly the work of other people.

I'll try to get some up tomorrow. I didn't really modify the appearance much (yet) so visually everything resembles a stock EF17 build except for the several AOSP style apps pulled in from CM7.
If anyone flashes this let me know, I tested it pretty thoroughly but am curious to see how it works for others.

uh oh...the Sprint ROMS are coming out the woodwork!!!!!!!!!!!! wh0o0o0o
Downloading and flashing. Currently im using the initial contact rom. Will compare and contrast momentarily =)
Thanks!

not to be mean or anything, but i sort of had this problem with the initial contact rom.
I dont see any differences... I tried flashing twice. Wipe data/cache/ reboot.(actually 3x - just for good measure) it had a cool anti sprint boot logo...but other than that, it was the same ol same ol.
yes it is snappy and rooted, but i got the same effect after converting to EXT4.
you said that you have elements of different stuff (ie CM7). I didn't see anything CM7 in particular. Am i doing something wrong?
thanks again!

If you have a different boot animation it probably flashed fine. Also the build number in About should be EVAN.GB.V6. And if you open Email or MMS it should be an AOSP-style app (taken from CM7) rather than the clunky apps included from the vendor. Also, you should be able to boot into Clockworkmod recovery and the wallpaper should have been different. If you have all this stuff I would say the flash went fine. Like I said, I didn't do any work as far as theming goes. My goal with this package was to get something out there that's flashable, functional, and lightweight. This is just a start that I can build on as I learn more.

Sweet deal, grats on your steps to becoming a full fledged dev!

Can you add Russian lang to your Rom? It will be good for Russian users

Is this missing a boot.bin file? I'm kind of unfamiliar with heimdall.

Can you add chinese lang to your Rom? It will be good for chinese users
Thx

Hey dude, possible to re-up this into a CWM-flashable file?
Heimdall is not my friend apparently.

Boot.bin doesn't need to be flashed. Just plug in the included 6 files and leave the remaining fields blank. Did you install the driver with the Heimdall driver utility?
The next release I will make a TAR or CWM-flashable package. I tried to make a TAR for this release but Odin didn't like it. I must have done something wrong.

Ah ok. For some reason it wouldn't initiate until I plugged something in to the boot field.
I soft bricked because of my inexperience. Got the death screen.
Odin saved the day though.

Please note this is NOT a full flash so do NOT select repartition when flashing otherwise it won't boot.
Anyone try this yet? Any benefits or features of note?
Is Kies picking any updates up yet?
So far, so good.

Interesting. Here's a reminder of the build details for JK1 (dial *#*#44336#*#*):

CSC: P1000OXAJK1

Should I go through the pain of re-installing all my apps, settings and root-tweaks just for the sake of a build 9 days more recent than JK1 ?
Going from JJK1 to JJK5:
If you select only "PDA", no PIT file/repartition, no Modem, no CSC and this file the update will not delete your user applications/data/...
Only thing I needed to do after was to re-root it.
PS: But better be safe than sorry and make a backup anyway

Had to re-root, used the z4-Mod app this time (last time I did it entirely manually, via the shell). Reboot...all fine (so far)
EDIT: the system apps remained with their latest updates, but my XDA-sourced Gallery3D apk (in /system/app/) was replaced with the JK5 flash...not a big deal, I'll just overwrite it again, if the sensor bug comes back ! UPDATE: yep, Gallery sensor bug still here...app replaced !
EDIT: AdFree had to be re-activated (no big deal, just something to think about after flashing).
Upgraded from JK1 to JK5 too, without issue.

Have you noticed any signicant differences between the two versions? Any noticeable improvements? Worth doing it? I always like having the latest but with this being setup just the way I want it, I don't wanna risk not being to do it again. Thanks

Grabbing ROMs from unknown sources, without any change-log whatsoever is a little risky...the only reason for doing it is intellectual curiosity, and the confidence to restore the system if anything fails.

I was quite worried about flashing the PDA component over my nicely-configured Android machine (which took me some time to get how I wanted it to be)...so I made a full Titanium backup just in case (apps+data), and I took notes of the few changes I made to the core system. As it turned out, the transition to JK5 was very smooth, everything that's visible on the surface remained the same...I guess the real changes are buried under the hood...god knows exactly what changed !

[ROM] Stock ICS 4.0.3 for Motorola Xoom (Perfectly working Camera & HDMI)

Hello everyone,
This is what currently running on my xoom. Camera and HDMI is working flawlessly. Contacts and Calender syncs with my Gmail without any problem.
My Xoom model is MZ606, Wifi Only Xoom purchased in China.
This built is firstly shared by "changguangyu" who is one of the xda member. He actually shared the sbf file released by Motorola China thru a Chinese hosted server, and that is why many users in xda are sufferring the slow download. Many thanks to "changguangyu' who share the sbf file.
I extracted the sbf file into system.img and boot.img that can be flashed thru fastboot. This may be the safest way to flash without risk of bricking your xoom. Click below link to download the images.
HUBWF_W5.I.7.1-14_HUBBLEWIFIHKTWNGEN_P007_A035_HWwifi_hubble_Service1FF-extracted.zip
Below are steps to flash via fastboot. (of course, flash at your own risk)
Pre-requirement:
You have unlocked your bootloader. (how to unlock bootloader)
You have rooted your xoom. (How to root Motorola Xoom)
Note: This will wipe all your sdcard (internal storage) data, besure to backup before flashing.
Boot into recovery, do a Nand backup.
Copy the images (system.img and boot.img) to where the fastboot.exe is located.
Take out the external sdcard.
Enter into bootloader. (Power On Xoom, Vol+)
Open command prompt. (navigate to where the fastboot.exe, usually "C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools\fastboot.exe", the right click > Open command windows here.
Type: fastboot flash boot boot.img
Type: fastboot flash system system.img
Type: fastboot erase cache
Type: fastboot erase userdata
Type: fastboot reboot
That's all, you will boot into ICS 4.0.3 shortly.
This is Stock ROM and for sure is not rooted, for those who would like to have root permission, download su-install.zip, copy it into your external sdcard, then flash it from recovery.
What I shared is not an sbf file, but the extracted images from the sbf files. (system.img and boot.img). One can always easily recover the xoom back to how it was by recovery. (eg. TiamatR4c Recovery)
Hope everyone enjoy!

The empty spaces are for icons of apps that I installed, what you can see here are stock apps.
You're really pimping this download, aren't you?
Like said earlier by Team EOS, people, download this at your own risk.
It should be noted this isn't exactly "stock" as we know it here. Sure, it's "stock" by Motorola standards, but this "stock" is ICS with Motorola's Blur additions because this release is Chinese based and not US based.
Bottom line: If you install this, you won't be getting a "Google Experience" like you're used to if you've used a XOOM in the US. Also, you could be exposing personal data since this ROM hasn't really been gone over with a fine tooth comb yet.
does this rom have working 3g?i have the mz601 europian model!!
Thank you, everything works great. Start up the game that did not work. super
Just gonna be brutally honest here guys. Do you really wanna expose your device to telephony framework in which the Chinese Government has influence? Call me paranoid, its all good. Paranoia keeps me out of trouble. The library files we pulled were completely torn apart by a security expert who is top notch in the industry. The libs are safe. I'm not gonna beat the bush on this one.
what about 3g on european xooms? will it work? i think not because i read wifi - am i correct?

if there is 1 thing you should do... its listen to this guy. Im just sayin
there is nothing to fall into paranoia. I installed rom the European Xoom wifi and everything works really well.
Thanks !!
No problem on my Wifi Only (MZ604), except that it "talks" to me in chinese (?) on first boot.
Note that first boot took something like 5 minutes for me.
All languages seems present, but default keyboard is not localized (no AZERTY) and has some chinese keys too.
Some chinese in menus too (in the "compatible" Zoom menu).
Thanks, nice Rom
It works OK on my US wifi Xoom. Everything seems to work
I'm usign it for 1h30 now... it seems very slow (comparing to eos), it lags a lot, applications start slowly (lot of "continue waiting/force close")
Is it only me ?
for me works very well. is very fast and so far no problems. start up games and apps that do not they run on other ics. for example, zen pinball.

It works very fast and smooth here. The only problem is that I get an error when I want to install su-install.zip from recovery. After that it seems to work but no apps which want root permission appear in the list. I don't get a toast eather when an app asks for the permission.
Even I don't see a toast and the file appears in the list. Rootpermission seems to work.
Everything works fine and smooth, Thanks
Is there the face unlock feature in this rom?
It is better when you share expirience with this ROM to mention which XOOM model you own. It is useless somebody just to say it works and another to say it doesn't work, but nobody says on which model.

No facelock, and there's a lot's of option in the developer section, it can show CPU usage and other stuff, probably a developer build, speed seem ok here, no different than EOS build
The standard motorola are there, I do not see much difference from a stock build, not sure what is related to blurr...
All app are restoring from market with this one!
The NFS.KO module and CIFS.KO are there, nfs was missing from EOS build
After a reboot, no more lags and speed issues.
Same issue with su (no authorization asked, no toast notifications) but su works anyway. Can't upgrade su binary via Superuser.
The only (small) issue remaining is some chinese text in few menus and system preferences (but it's totaly usable).
French (and other) keyboad is available with the android keyboard (default selected keyboad is chinese motorola)

After installing SU I pointed Titanium on my SD to do a restore and the external1 is writable, this is new since under EOS it was not writable with titanium...
Also one application I use is relay (french magasine site relay.com) it was crashing with EOS build, now working
That's enough for me to keep this build! let's hope they do not hack my google account

Again this is a wifi roms, you do have EOS availlable that suport non wifi version in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426838
I have MZ604 wifi, china is MZ606 asaik and some people bricked their tablet flashing, it is safe to flash in .img form you can revert as original poster mentioned! but this still exclude 4g tablet afaik
Hows motoblur? I would like a option of a skin on our tablet to play around with sometime.

[UI] GN Fastboot Flasher[v1.5.0][27/7]

I'm proud to present you the GN Fastboot Flasher (GNFF)
I love the simplicity and the convenience of Odin, but it's close source and also there a few files to flash with Odin. So I decided to create an Odin-like app, but for using with fastboot.
Remember that this app is in Beta stage may not be a complete and safe way of flashing. By using this software, you accept its danger.
This app only works on Windows. I have no plan to distribute it to Linux/Mac. The reason is clear, I know nothing from coding on Linux/Mac .Also I'm sure there are lots of work to do in the windows version.
GNFF Functions:
Flashing boot.img, zImage, zip file containing zImage
Flashing radio, bootloader, recovery, system
Flashing stock image files (.tgz)
Flashing stock image files automatically by downloading from Google servers
To do:
Add other options, like unlocking bootloader - Done
Make logging better and complete - Done
Add other languages
Bugs:
You say!
Changelog:
Version 1.5.0:
Fixed image downloading problem.
Added ability to update the program(Wait till the next version).
Added a part named "Addons".
Added ability to unlock/lock the bootloader.
Added Console to execute commands using adb and fastboot.
Some aesthetic changes.
Added support for JB ROMs.
Now you can inter "Custom" for your current ROM, and GNFF will download and install the latest official ROM.
Added a button to clear the log.
New icon.
Added abiliy to use drag & drop for flashing files.
Adding ability to use "open with..." for flashing files
Version 1.0.2:
Added an option to download and flash stock images from Google servers
Added an option to reboot to bootloader
Fixed the bug that was causing the log part don't be scrollable
Now GNFF doesn't let stop the flashing progress using repressing "Start" button
Version 1.0.1:
Added bootloader control, now it doesn't flash anything on devices with locked bootloader.
Added zImage control, now it gives an error in the log section when the zip file doesn't contain a zImage.
Added some more log informations.
Version 1.0.0:
Initial version
Sources:
To be honest, I'm not pro in using Git and publishing open source apps. Anyway I pushed them to github. You can compile them using AMS.

Super cool idea. So we can use this app to install latest stock images from Google. Could we install also Cwm images ( is this the recovery part)?

Yes.
That option is for flashing recovery image files.
I think the potential for this app is really great. It could be used for senarios like:
1) Unlock bootloader
2) update image
3) install an image with root
etc...

is there already an option to show the Gnex's current version of bootloader / firmware / baseband etc etc?
By the way nice work there.

i tried many time but the app said my phone wasn't connected,
but it shown connected in android.
please release the tutorial mate.

Have you installed adb drivers ? If not that's the issue . Boot in to bootloader ( power off the device - press volume up + down + power button ) then it'll ask for adb drivers . You can find the gnex adb drivers from googling .
After installing drivers , you are good to go .
.. Beamed Directly Via GNEX ..
file is no longer available...

Ah, crap. I forgot to test video, I just tried taking regular photos. But to answer your question, no, it doesn't. I should really just bundle Open Camera with this...
This is an improvement over other builds though, since the camera on those didn't function at all.

Flashed this rom and running smoothly but camera is same as all lollipop roms it is taking photos from main camera but frozen in front camera mode thereafter not connecting tried clearing data, restarting mobile etc only disabled by tibu and installed open camera
It is not a complaint but just information as we all know that development of lollipop Rom is still in preliminary stage for our devices
Thanks OP for this Rom [emoji106]
I've also found another bug: you'll need to rerun setup if you turn WiFi off. DO NOT TURN WIFI OFF. I'm looking into a fix for this, as this is kind of a bad issue.
FIXED. See post below.
A new build will be released later today that will *hopefully* resolve some of the bugs above with the wifi and whatnot.
New build availiable. This release fixes the WiFi issue, as well as a few other minor bugs.

Nope. Lag-free. I haven't crashed at all, and actually, this is 10x more stable and smooth than the official CM 11 nightlies from my own experience. With ART and other performance improvements in Lollipop, this is an extremely beneficial update for the GS3.

Since they share a similar kernel structure, you should, but I do not recommend it. I can build a d2att version if you guys are interested?
Settings sometimes crash when I click notification manager. And question: is there a kernel I can download where I can change the clock? Mine can only change I/o schedule. But this is a great ROM! Thank you for your hard work!

Hmm, that's strange. I haven't experienced this issue. If you could, use logcat and send me your logs, and I'll see if I can find anything. I'll be releasing another build sometime this week, so maybe it will be fixed then. Logcat instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1726238
Awesome mod , just installed it today . no issues Thanks for the hard work
Newbie help
Since you're doing a build from unchanged stuff I was wondering if you had any hints about how I can locate a couple missing files.
In running ./extract-files.sh I find almost all but the first file in the #DRM section of /android/system/device/samsung/d2-common/proprietary-files.txt are not on my phone. I had to comment out those lines to finish the extract, obviously this means DRM is broken on my machine (meh), but any idea where I could get those files or if I should really care?

TheMuppets github has all those files after running extract files. On their github look for /vendor/samsung and place that sanding folder in your *root build finder*/ vendor folder. Hope this helps.
Is there a recommended Kernel and radio? I've been out of the modding world for quite some time and haven't kept up.
Whew. I've really been away a long time. Move along, nothing to see here.

Is anyone having issues with gapps? I can't get a clean install from TWRP. It fails every time. I did a complete wipe and install of the ROM and then tried just installing Google Play Services 6.5.85 apk from androidpit and it just crashes. Any ideas? Thanks.

i never got the security threat but the wifi issue is because of the kernel. Edit the build prop to fix. change"wifi. ro.securestorage.support=true'' to "wifi. ro.securestorage.support=false'' then reboot
fixed my security issue by installing emotions kernel...thx:good:
WiFi was fixed as well.
Can anyone confirm if WiFi calling is working with this ROM?
The option appears to be missing entirely from the 910T3 stock rooted ROM and am trying to sort out if the kernel is part of that or not.
To clarify, I have a 910T3 and am using the stock rooted 910T3 ROM. Wanted to know if 910T folks see the same issue.
If you do have WiFi calling confirmed working, which kernel are you using?
Hi i download this rom and install it but when I open the camera it won't open it a says camera stop working. Force close. Everything else seam to work fine.

Is smart lock missing? Can't seem to find it

@Diarrhea Slushie does it support Themes option? (The original theme from samsung in setting i mean)
@Diarrhea Slushie have you made any changes to the rom from the day you originally posted this? I remember downloading a much smaller file on the 4th compared to todays post. Anything different besides the title change from N910TUVU2DOK2DEODEX.zip vs PurityStockRom?
Thanks
