Hello folks,
First of all can I say what a great site this is and how many super and generous people there are who help out twits like me every day!
I have rooted and flashed my phone many, many times, so I am not a Noob as such, though I am stuck on this one....
Here's my issue......
Got phone back from HTC repair - New motherboard - Worked fine.
HBOOT 0.93
I rooted phone using Unrevoked version 3
Then I installed LeeDroid 2.2d - latest version from XDA developers.
Phone worked fine for a few days.
I downloaded a few apps and synced calendars etc.
Then this morning - I unplugged my charger from the phone and Bang.....Phone seems to be not working, my Calendars are blank, so I decided to reboot phone.....................
Now I am unable to get past the HTC White Logo screen. AND I cannot access Recovery mode or Clockworkmod.
Though I can get to the Hboot screen by holding the down key and power.
Cannot boot into recovery though even from this menu.
The initial Recovery bit - the green writing that pops up when the phone looks at the recovery image, seems to be saying something like wrong image - Below.

I have rebooted several times, but no good.
I have plugged my Desire in to PC and gone into Fastboot mode and then tried to install the Stock HTC RUU by running the exe from my computer.
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed
However I just get either error 131 or Error 140 depending on which SD card I put into the phone..........
This has got me completely stumped? Am I bricked completely or is there a way around this?
Any ideas?

put it into the root of your sdcard and it should reflash without a problem.
Well i don't know why both your recovery and system has got corrupted without you doing a thing to it. It usually only happens if you messed something up.. Not saying you have, but now would be the time to tell
Otherwise everything you say is exactly what i would expect your phone to do.
First of all the green writing in hboot is not a look at the recovery but a check to see, if you have put a zip file with that name on the sd-card. This is just an alternative to using the ruu.exe
Second of all the stock rom you try to flash may contain an older hboot version og something similar, which is just giving you the error because you are not allowed to downgrade to an earlier software/hboot version. Try the newest one instead with your goldcard in the phone of cause.
And finally no you are not even close to a brick here seriously some people should take a deep breath and read through the forum(not specifically you but people in general. There is just too many topics with people screaming heeelp i have no idea what i did to my phone). Theres plenty of solutions, and it is quite hard to actually brick the phone. Unless you actually tried pulling the battery while flashing a hboot or radio update almost any other software problems are easily solved, because of the way this system is build.
edit: and if you try the above suggested by h3llb3nd4. You should be aware that your phone model on that page is bravo and not desire, which is the cdma desire. So if your phone has a sim card you should pick bravo. You still have to choose one with a similar or newer software and hboot version than your current.

The latest with the saga is.
I managed to get the latest Froyo RUU to run and install successfully on my phone.
However - Phone still will not get past the HTC white screen, it just sticks there.
I am pretty much out of ideas now?
h3llb3nd4, thank you for your advice, I will give this a go, but as I cannot access any menu's to do a reflash I'm not sure I understand how this can help me? - Not that I'm saying it won't, it's probably my lack of knowledge.
Otherwise, I have to say this phone seems to be a big trouble. I mean even a successful RUU install and still no reboot? Weird

Well I tried this, and placed the zip file onto the root of SDCard. However then I restarted phone and it simply stuck at the HTC screen as before?
Do I need to do anything else? - I cannot access recovery to install from zip card.
Do I need to unzip the zip file? or maybe rename it?
Also I am now installed with the latest froyo Bravo RUU Rom 2.10, so the image file that is for 1.21 may not be right for this?

Put PB99IMG.zip on to the root of your SD card. Then boot into the bootloader (power on with vol down held down).
The bootloader will automatically scan the SD card root for an update file and install it. That should get your back to running stock again.

Sooo close, it actually started reading the PB99IMG.Zip file. However it failed to update sadly.
The error message was "update fail"
Could this be that the ROM image that is on the phone is a higher one than this PB99IMG file? Is there one that is suitable for use with

Right I have found the correct PB99IMG file for my current stock Rom.
The phone found it in Bootlaoder and went right through the installation process correctly and successfully......................
Outcome - Phone still not working at stuck at the HTC White screen.
I would say it's now looking like hardware issue to me? I cannot think of anything else that might get this bloody phone to work again...............

I don't know what I did wrong. After downloading a moddet statusbar vor Oxygen 0.2 I wanted to reboot into recovery and it took me very long. It freezed. After pulling the battery and setting it back in and pushing the power button my desire vibrated in 3 short intervals.
Since that I can't boot into the os or into recovery. Only thing that is working is the bootloader and the fastboot.
First thing I tryed is to flash (with fastboot) a new recovery but nothing changed. still it freezes at the splash screen.
I also downloaded official o2 rom from their homepage. But I think they want me to run the .exe while in android. A error comes up and tells me that it can't find a phone.
official htc roms don't work too. one told me that I'm not allowed to install this particular rom and an other official rom keeps exiting with error code: 170 telling me that the usb connection couldn't be established or something like this.
is there something else I can try?
I googled and searched the board. Tryed to boot into recovery without microSD card too but still no success.

Unpack the Rom and get the image out of the file...
Rename it to pb99img.zip dump only that on the root of your sdcard and boot into hboot .

Thank you so much. I already tryed this with 3 different pb99img images and had always the same error (CID). One of them was a o2 uk rom. So I gave up on trying it this way. But I didn't know that it could be extracted from every rom.
Now I think every thing is working again. Thank you.
Oh well ... I destroyed it again. Like I said I was able to install official o2 rom and everything was working again. After that I wanted to root it with unrevoked 3.21 but it freezed at "waiting for reboot". So I had to pull the battery once again.
But now I can't even enter bootloader. Only a screen pops up with htc in the middle and with four ! in every corner of the display.
Tryed to install official o2 rom again. It can find it and starts installing but at the end of the installation it stops with an error:
error [110]: error while opening data. Tryed it 3 times but always the same.
This might work for you
WAIT, BEFORE YOU START, CREATE A GOLDCARD. IT IS VERY NECESSARY. THINGS WILL GO WRONG IF YOU DONT.
EDIT: YOU MUST BE ABLE TO BOOT GO TO THE BOOTLOADER MENU.
Firstly, download this file. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13240777/Desire Downgrade.ZIP
Extract the files.
Run the win-down.bat file.
Follow on screen instructions.
After the process is completed, Head to the root of your SD card and check if there is a file named P99***IMG (FORGOT THE EXACT NAME BUT IT SHOULD BE SOMETHING LIKE THIS) there should be one.
Secondly, disconnect your phone and turn it off.
After that boot up your phone while pressing the volume down button and the power button.
The bootloader should be checking for files after awhile and once it found the file that is supposed to be in the root of your sd card, press the volume up button (NOT EXACTLY SURE, SHOULD BE THE ONE THAT SAYS YES AND CONTINUE)
It should be writing files to your phone. and replaces everything. E.G: HBOOT, RECOVERY,RADIO and such.
It should be writing files successfully and then it would ask you to reboot. Continue with the reboot and you should be having your Desire back to stock. Perfect.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT THERE ARE RISKS INVOLVED LIKE FAILURE OF WRITING TO THE HBOOT. PLEASE REMEMBER TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS. MAINLY, DO NOT BLAME ME FOR ANYTHING THAT GOES WRONG.
FINALLY, YOU SHOULD BE READING EVERYTHING UP TO HERE AND THAT YOU MUST HAVE A GOLDCARD (A GOLD SD CARD)

You have to have a working Goldcard and be able to access HBOOT to do the above

I send it to o2. Since I was able to install the official RUU once I think they will take care of it.
What happend is:
For some reason I wasn't able to boot my phone. Recovery wasn't working too. Only thing that was working was Bootloader and Fastboot.
Just to sum up what I tryed:
Installing new recovery didn't help. I was able to install official o2 RUU and everything was working. But I lost my root. I think it had HBoot 0.930001
So I wanted to root it again with unrevoked 3.21
It started well and rebootet one or two times. But at the thirt reboot attempt it juft freezed and nothing was happening. I don't know what I did wrong?
is unrevoked 3.21 really able to root a phone with hboot 0.930001?
As I said ... if faild and after that I couldn't even enter Bootloader or Fastboot.
So I send it to o2 and hope they fix it.
But now I am really scared to root it again. If it fails again ... what will they think if I send it after 3 days again to them.

Well lad you had USB brick, easy to fix.There is a thread on this thing.

I have the same problem and getting pretty desperate now.
Only FASTBOOT and BOOTLOADER works.
I have clockwork recovery installed but it wont boot into recovery. It just gets stuck on the white boot screen.
I can't copy PB99IMG.zip or any other zip file because I can't access the phone through usb. I tried:
adb push PBIMG99.zip /
error: device not found
Is my phone useless now? As good as a brick?
try pack it in some tolietpaper put it in to the freezer fore 5 min an try again

janielsen's idea seems crazy but give it a try..
put it in the freezer for few minutes then take it out
and then try to get into recovery mode..
you'll be able to do that
if you see a triangle with ! mark at the center that means it's a serious hardware issue and we can't do anything about that you have to send it to htc service center
Ha, funnily enough I did try the freezer thing but that didn't work either. What did work was booting into fast boot, connecting the usb and flashing with an official RUU in windows.
The phone is still stuffed!!!
It now has an official htc rom, no root, no mods, nothing... just stock!
But whenever it has to do a bit more processing like viewing a complex web page with flash, playing a game, downloading from the market it resets itself. Why?
I am starting to think it's a hardware problem but I need confirmation. I tried different roms but I get the same result. Has anyone has the same experience???
well i have sent my phone in fore repare the trick whit the freezer is only so u can unroot it so they cant see that it has bien rooted

But what can they do? Replace the CPU? Did they say how much it costs?
I bought my phone second hand so I don't have warranty.
yes u have warrenty because htc can see by the imei when the garanty is running out

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with this issue I have. I have a rooted Evo, with my latest ROM being Fresh Evo 4.0.0.4 Beta by flipzmode. I was having some issues with the rom, so I was attempting to reflash the rom, however its beta 3 (one update older) version, first. I went through ROM Manager and did a complete backup, then chose install from SD Card and checked the boxes for Wipe Dalvik cache and the other check for wipe cache / data (i forget exactly what it says). ROM manager took over from there, rebooting into recovery and installing the rom, atleast as i thought it as doing. Once it was said and done, I now am at my problem area. It will not boot past the white htc EVO 4G screen. I've given it anywhere from 20-40 minutes to load. I've tried pulling the battery as well. I've even attempted to get into recovery by going into my hboot bootloader. However there, i have ANOTHER problem...I can't pick any of the available options. Its as if my volume buttons just don't work. When I have my SD card loaded and I go into hboot, it does some kinda search which yields five results of No Image Found! it then returns to the main menu where again, I can't scroll up or down the list. It says s-off so I assume that means I'm still rooted. I'm not an expert by any means, and overall I'd say I'm a noob to this stuff, but I am trying to figure it all out. If anyone can help me out with what to do to get my phone running again, I'd appreciate it greatly.

Hmmmm, that's odd. You can try putting a PC36IMG of the RUU on the root of your SD card. If you used unrevoked, you'll stay s-off, so all you'll need to do is reflash recovery to flash a rom or restore from a backup. However, you need to use your volume buttons to agree to the flash in the bootloader. In the odd case that it just won't navigate the menu, but the volume buttons are fine, it may still receive the confirmation from the button that you want to flash the PC36IMG.
If that's the case , download this file: http://goo-inside.me/supersonic/sto...15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed.zip and rename it to PC36IMG, don't add a zip to the end because it's already there. Put it on the root of your SD card and boot into the bootloader, when it asks you to update, *try* to agree with the volume up button. If it works, hopefully that'll fix your problem.
It's not the greatest fix, and the chance of it working isn't all that high, but it's all I've got.
Oh, and obviously your volume buttons are fine if you can get into the bootloader, unless a button is stuck.

Just a couple more quick details before I try to do what you said, I'm not sure which root method was used for me. My cousin did it for me and with my phone mia, I have no way to find out. Does that effect anything? Also, i'm pretty sure i've used ClockWorkMod recovery, as i remember flashing it through ROM manager a few days ago. I've realized that the volume buttons do work, but only when to accept the update for the pc36img..I read about that before so I tried putting one that I believe was for ClockWorkMod recovery on my sd card, but I wasnt sure if that was the right pc36img file i need. So I can replace that with the one you have linked me with. Will running that cause any problems with the addtional details? I just don't want to end up permanently bricking my phone, so I'd rather cover all my bases.

I would do 2 things: 1 flash a new recovery, specifically amon_RA and then I would flash a rooted ODEXED stock rom.
Click on the word "amon_RA" above and download the PC36IMG.zip file and place it on the root of your SD card (not in any folder). Make sure there is NO OTHER FILE with that same name on the root of your card. Turn off your device and then boot it to the bootloader screen. After a pause, the file should be autodetected and you should be prompted to install. follow the easy instructions to install. Afterwards, you should be able to go into recovery and flash a rom. Download the rooted stock rom by clicking on "rooted ODEXED stock rom" above. Afterwards, put it on your SD card and flash it from recovery. Once you've successfully flashed a rom and if you're set on re-using ClockWorkMod recovery, you can always download the ROM Manager app and have it install ClockWorkMod recovery for you, but I recommend you stay with amon_RA.

Thank you, thank you, thank you plainjane! I decided to just go for it and try your method, it took care of my phone not being able to boot-up. I'm now at what seems like a stock rom.

Thanks for your suggestion dougjamal, I actually attempted your method first, but I still wasn't able to select the recovery option from the hboot bootloader main screen after running the PC36IMG, so I couldnt flash the rom.
So, I still have a couple of the same problems. I still can't choose the recovery option from the bootloader menu, I've tried multiple times to use a PC36IMG for ClockWorkMod recovery and Amon_ra. Also, while using the actual phone, my power button seems to not work. It doesnt turn of the screen, nor does longpressing it allow me to shut off the phone. If it helps to diagnose the problem, since i'm pretty sure up until today my power button still worked, whenever I pull my battery and put it back in, the phone boots automatically without me pressing the power button. Anyone have any suggestions?
Otherwise, is there anyway for me to just go back to complete stock again and attempt rooting the phone again, and starting completely from scratch?

Boot into the bootloader screen and see if you're still rooted (S-OFF). If it displays S-ON then you will not be able to make changes to your device.

Yes, it still says S-OFF. I don't understand why I can't scroll through the menu nor turn off my screen though. Even when it times out, I can't turn the display back on. I have to plug in a charger.

But it's stuck in bootloop, I messed with the system/apps folder...
So now it's pretty much messed up.
Didn't install ROM-manager, I know it was kinda stupid.
How can I reïnstall a custom ROM?

Go into recovery and flash from there, or if you backed-up then restore the rom. If you don't have any roms then you can also mount your sd card from CWM recovery. If you don't have any custom recovery then you'll have to flash it through fastboot. I would tell you the process but I'm really busy right now, but I'm sure someone will explain it to you.

Don't install custom ROM's from Rom Manager's Download list. None of them are for Wildfire S.
Install CWM Recovery either through Hboot as a PG76IMG.zip or using Eoghan2t7's Windoze tool.
From there you should make a backup of your working ROM before trying any new ones in case of times like this...

Download that and connect your WFS to your PC, follow the steps which are quite easy. Then boot into recovery (volume down + power button, choose recovery by the volume buttons and power button), then choose install zip from SD and you can install the zip file (the rom) by selecting that file.

But I'm not quiet through yet... so I downloaded the WFS Manager, then I connected up my phone to the pc.
It was switched on, and just doing the bootloop again, showing the "Quietly Brilliant" sign over and over again.
And then I ran the tool, and it said "Please connect up your device" after I ticked on the first option ("Root And Install Recovery").
I guess this is because the WFS was bootlooping, and so the pc didn't recognise it. I also tried with the HBOOT menu on, but still the pc didn't recognise my phone. Is there anything I did wrong?
My pc (Windows 7 Ultimate x64), showed a popup saying there couldn't be found any driver for "Android 1.0". However it did work before the bootloo
If you have a card reader, or a phone that can take your SD card, then just remove your SD card, place it in an SD card reader or a device which can take your SD card, plug that device into your PC, place the ROM you want to flash onto the SD card, place your SD card back into your Wildfire, boot into recovery and flash the ROM from there.
I had a similar situation where I had an invalid xxxxIMG.zip file on the root of my SD card and a ROM that kept rebooting my device. Naturally, I started panicking, but when I got myself together, I just realized I could remove my SD card and then go into recovery, then reinsert my card and flash a working ROM.

Hi, thanks for the help. But I don't think you fully understand my problem.
So I have a stock ROM, rooted. And I messed with the system/app folder.
Now it's stuck into bootloop.
What does recovery mean? is it the menu entry in the HBOOT menu?
Because if I go to "recovery" and click it, after a few seconds I get a phone icon with a red triangle above it.
I tried putting the PG76IMG.zip file on the root of my SD card, but then in the HBOOT Menu, I get the message:
"CID incorrect !
Update Fail!
Press <POWER> to reboot."
What do I have to do?
find the cwm recovery thread and download the PG76IMG.zip then copy it to your sdcard then reboot to hboot. when it asks you if you want to flash recovry press volume up. then when finish instead of rebooting take out your battery. wait for 25 secs reinsert it then boot to hboot then choose recovery see new ui instead of the old one.

This is my course of actions:
I download the PG76IMG.zip file from the CWM recovery thread.
I place it in the root of my SD-card.
I start my phone pressing the volume-down button.
It automatically finds the .zip file and tries to update, but then I get the error.
What should I do?
I got what you were trying to say, I just didn't realize you had no recovery installed. I had the same error message pop up when I tried to install the recovery. I think it had something to do with the hboot being newer than something, something, blah, blah, bliddity-blah.
Anywho, I think I had the recovery installed along with the root using SuperTool.exe, but that won't work for you, since you obviously can't boot up, so you can't connect to the PC. All I can remember is I had some sort of app on my PC that allowed me to push the CWM Recovery without going through all that hboot stuff, since the S-ON wouldn't let me install PG76IMG.zip. Again, this is useless to you
My best advice is to try another PG76IMG.zip file and just keep trying until you find one that'll work, which you'll place onto your SD card from another device, of course.

In this post there's an auto-installer that I used to flash it onto my device.
The reason you are having bootloop problems with OC roms is because your phone doesn't support OC. Don't worry though it's not just you, even my phone doesn't support OC. The best ROM to go with right now is Alquez's CM7, but I'm sure other developers will make non-OC roms.

I'd like something fast and stable, it would be handy to have one which doesn't have any stock apps installed with it...
I'd go with Jikantaru's ROM, if I wanted a more Sense-ish experience (which I, personally, don't). It does away with the bloatware, but it keeps Sense UI. I couldn't use this one, since my SD card is only 2 gigs and I can't partition it correctly :\
Therefore, my pick would be Cyanogenmod 7, which gives you a pure Android experience (no trace of HTC's bloatware, spyware or crapware). It takes away everything you don't need or most likely don't use and keeps it all clean and speedy, since there's no Sense, MotoBlur, TouchWiz or any other company-created user interface, leaving you to run everything right on top of the Android system. However, I've had some trouble with this one. First I had no mobile data connection or WiFi, and when I finally fixed that problem, I noticed I had no phone app -.-
So, now I'm using m1ndh4x8r's ROM, and I'm pleased enough with it. It lets me overclock and stuff, though I fear I might have effed something up while reverting to it from my non-fully-working CM7 flash, and now I can't install most apps :\
Now I'm pretty much waiting for a fully-operational CM7 build to come out so I can finally use my phone's full potential.

I installed the cm7 by alquez (already tried the RC and the nightly build) and I'm stuck at a white boot screen - I don't know if this is the boot loop error - I only see the green HTC sign with white background
Yesterday, I unlocked the phone, rooted it and today, I installed the CWM and from there, resetted the phone, data, and installed the zip.
Now, the white screen doesnt go away, even after 15min or so
Is there a thing i'm missing?

I've been following Albinoman's progress and while I was trying to troubleshoot the "low space notification" we're all too familiar with, I made a HUGE mistake.... I was using Albinoman's Beta 2, which worked great, but I tried restoring a nandroid backup and it failed, due to a corrupt SD card. Then, I tried restoring to another backup, which also failed. I then set out to run a scandisk on the SD card, so I shut off my phone thinking I could just boot back into recovery no problem right?!? WRONG!
After fixing the SD card, I was unable to even boot into recovery, I was getting the scary 5 vibrates of death, and I found this thread, which was half-helpful:

Here's where my biggest problems come in...
I'm currently running Gingerbread 2.3.4, S-ON, and ADB is BROKEN on my phone
My HBoot is version 1.07.0000 (I was 0.92.0000, but now I flashed cmlusco's newer HTC rom, so it changed)
What I currently have to work with (what works):
Wifi, SD Card (new one of course), 3G, and I'm able to boot, and I got my bootloader unlocked!
I cannot find any way to root my phone based on my current situation.
I have found plenty of ways to root (I'm used unrevoked plenty of times but it wont help me now because ADB wont work with my phone because it's broken, but I can't fix ADB, because I can't get root, it's really a sad situation)
I've tried HTC's RUU official root method, other RUU's, and Unrevoked, but they all don't work because my ADB is messed up
Also, I don't know if this helps, I can use fastboot, and I was able to flash an image using fastboot commands, but it's been awhile since I've tried that, and I don't know of anything I can flash via fastboot to help my situation.
My main goal is, I just need to get rooted again so that I can re-flash Albinoman's sweet Beta 3 ROM which I've been unable to even try

UPDATE: It's FIXED!!!! Here's the short version of how (in case it happens to anyone else)
To start, my phone A: Would not boot B: Would not read the SD card, or EMMC, EVEN in recovery C: all USB was broken including ADB (but fastboot worked) and D: I managed to lose root by flashing like mad in hopes of fixing AB and C
Step 1: I flashed cmlusco's ROM that he suggested which got my hboot up to date etc...
Step 2: I went to http://htcdev.com/bootloader/ and unlocked my bootloader (BUT I skipped straight to step 8 (the fastboot part, since everything before that was a waste of my time since my USB/ADB was hosed))
Step 3: I flashed this recovery image and ran "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
Step 4: I downloaded superuser and loaded it through recovery, now that my SD card worked
Step 5: I then was able to do the following in order to fix the USB/ADB problem:
using this file and this file and running them in an android emulator app I downloaded from google play (since my USB was broken)
Terminal emulator & ADB commands:

cat /sdcard/flash_image > /data/flash_image
cat /sdcard/mtd-eng.img > /data/mtd-eng.img
chmod 755 /data/flash_image
/data/flash_image misc /data/mtd-eng.img

Step 6: I was now fixed, so I just wiped my phone and flashed Albinoman's Jellybean ROM because it rocks!

1. Does USB mass storage work? (do your sdcard and emmc get recognized as drive letters when it boots) - if it doesn't there MAY be a problem but question 2's suggestion may fix it.
2. Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling the adb drivers?
This is just off the top of my head. Oh, now I see that fastboot works so basic USB communication works so it may be a driver issue.
Oh, since fastboot works you should be able to flash CWM recovery and a superuser zip to root unless it says not allowed. But if you can flash and boot recovery at that point no point on rooting, just flash a rooted ROM like jellybean beta3.

What hboot version are you on? Have you tried an ruu thru hboot?
I would try an ruu thru hboot first. http://dinc.does-it.net/Stock_Images/4.08.605.15/PB31IMG.zip
If that dosent let you boot, use the htcdev site to unlock your bootloader. And then fastboot flash cwm recovery, and then superuser thru cwm. Then you will be rooted and can try to wipe everything and flash a rom.

1st of all, thanks for getting back to me so quickly Tiny, you're amazing, and I appreciate all the work you've done with the Dinc, thanks for being so active!
1. No, mass storage doesn't work (I assume you mean plugging in the phone and having it mount the SD card as a drive on the computer)
However, I am able to now use both my SD card from within Gingerbread, and the recovery, but only after doing the "fastboot oem enableqxdm 0" trick
2. I haven't tried uninstalling and reinstalling the ADB drivers, but only because.... I'm a developer, and sometimes I develop on my home computer, and sometimes I develop at work, and they both exhibit the same behavior, so I don't think it can be that both computers, just happened to get messed up at the exact same time, right when my phone got hosed?
Also, I've used ADB plenty in the past, on both computers, so I'm certain they're set up right, just between having two computers to work with, AND the extensive use I've made of ADB in the past (I'm the office Root-er, I've rooted most of my co-worker's phone for them, so I've had quite a bit of experience (and should have known better than to turn off my phone when I did which got me in this pickle ))
Just to be clear though, basic USB communication works, but only in HBOOT, NOT from Gingerbread, actually, having the phone plugged into USB (whether or not USB debugging is turned on on the phone), WILL lock up my computer until I unplug it, and as soon as I unplug, my computer snaps back to normal So I think somehow something in the phone got hosed so the ADB is broken, however, I can't fix it because I can't get my root back because I'm stuck in the horrible stock gingerbread (no offense to anyone that likes it )
Also, yes, I've tried a ton of times to flash a superuser zip to root and it says it's not allowed/bad signature or whatever, because it's still S-ON

I didn't even know you could use RUU's through hboot, I'll try that, as well as using the HTC unlocker RUU with hboot.
I'd already tried those things normally, but with by USB being hosed, it didn't help much. :-\

I'm on HBoot 0.92.0000
and it seems to only allow me to flash newer, or the same version as what I've got (because I've tried downgrading)
I just tried the RUU from HTC to root my phone.
I ran the RUU, put the phone in hboot, and it sat and said "verifying phone information" or something like that and said "error 170, usb connection error"
I also put the phone in "fastboot" and tried again, it didn't seem to make a difference.
Now regarding flashing an RUU through hboot, how would I go about doing that? I'm assuming you're talking about throwing the PB31IMG.zip on my SD and booting into Hboot. Now that DOES work however, I'm still S-ON, so unless it's a factory image, it ain't gonna like it

That PB31IMG.zip i posted is 4.08.605.15, the latest android version for our phone. It is official and signed by htc, so it should flash even if your s-on. Just place it on your sd in no folders and hboot should find it.

Yes, you're right, I was able to flash that image using hboot, but sadly... the adb is STILL broken and doing all the same things it was before (it doesn't work, and when I plug it into my computer, it freaks out my computer and the computer freezes until I unplug the phone, then everything is fine again)
It seems that all these images write everything to the phone... BUT what I need. I've found some things that "should" fix my problem, but they are all unsigned, and therefore they require root. Is there a chance that now with this newest RUU you gave me "z4root" will work cmlusco? (the reason I ask is, I'm hoping that an app that roots the phone without the computer will work, since every time I plug into a computer, it doesn't work, and just freaks out the computer)
Also, regarding the official HTC way to root, I tried running their "PB3120000_Incredible_C_hboot_1.02.0000_4.08.605.2.exe" file, however, that didn't work in the slightest (because it uses adb commands to talk to the phone). Is it possible that there's a way to extract the PB31IMG.zip file from that exe file and therefore I would be able to flash that using hboot, and the phone would like it because it's signed by HTC (I'm assuming)?
By the way, ever since I flashed that newer PB31IMG.zip ROM, now when I go into hboot, at the top it says "*** LOCKED ***", and it never said that before, I don't know if that matters at all? :-\

Then, after running the update, it asked me if I wanted to reboot, it showed the picture of the phone with the arrows in a circle around it, then when it wen to reboot, it did the usual (for me lately), and gave me the 5-vibrates of death and a black screen, the only way to get out of it is to do a battery pull. Then, after doing that, if I just plug in the cable, I can boot into the new rom just fine, but if the cable isn't plugged in, I just get the 5 vibrates of death, like this guy....

To be more clear, the basic USB communication doesn't work, the only way I can get anything that uses USB to work, is by booting into fastboot, and I have been able to do fastboot commands (like "fastboot oem enableqxdm 0"). So it seems that fastboot's USB works just fine (I've tested this on multiple computers), but anything after that, like trying to use the USB from the operating system, is totally broken. So I'm guessing that internally, the phone's drivers for USB are separate for hboot, and therefore still work, however, the phone's USB drivers for Gingerbread, are completely broken, even though I've been able to flash 2 different versions of signed gingerbread from HTC, they still don't seem to fix my USB problem even though it's writing the entire system all over again. Is it possible that there's a signed HTC zip that will fix my USB, that would fix me... the only question is.... does a signed HTC zip exist that will fix my USB??? :-\
Ok, I've got great news, I was able to finally unlock my bootloader! so now when I go into HBOOT, it says at the top "UNLOCKED", however, it still says S-ON, and I still don't have root, but I think we're getting there!
So now that my bootloader is unlocked, I'm assuming I should be able to either load a custom recovery (like clockworkmod), however, I still can't use ADB to do anything so things like unrevoked wont work for me sadly

I think I understand rooting, at least enough, and I thought I understood the bootloader, and the unlocking. Either way, I'm very encouraged by the fact that my bootloader is unlocked, I'm assuming it should help me to acheive my goal of rooting and eventually gettting Albioman's Jellybean on there?

Now you need to fastboot flash cwm. Download this file http://dinc.does-it.net/Guide_Root_New_Hboot/recovery.img, and place it on your pc in the same folder as the fastboot.exe file.
Open a cmd prompt on your pc to where fastboot.exe and recovery.img are. Type the folowing:

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
If you get no errors, go to the maim hboot menu and select recovery. You should now be in cwm recovery.
Download superuser http://dinc.does-it.net/Superuser/SuperUser_3.0.7.zip, and place it on your sdcard by going to mounts and storrage and selecting mount usb storrage. If it freezes up the phone or the pc, you will need to take the sd out and use a card reader to put it on the sd with a pc.
Then flash it thru recovery like you would a rom. Now you will be rooted. Then flash a rom of your choosing and hope it boots.
Might as well load the ROM when you load superuser. But flashing superuser is silly if you're going to flash a ROM with root right after it but it's probably still a good zip to keep on your sdcard.

I wound up loading superuser like cmlusco suggested, only because I wanted to have everything fixed and perfect before loading Albinoman's new ROM, just in case there were issues, that way I'd know that it was the ROM or my phone, especially since my SD Card freaked out on me and that's how I got into this mess
