[Q] dhd gps starting all the time - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so having changed Rom recently from cm7 to leedroid all of a sudden the location service keeps starting up by itself and is wrecking my brain so bad i want to throw the phone at the wall!!!!
it starts up all the time even during calls which puts the phone onto loudspeaker, any ideas how to uninstall location as i dont use it anyway, or anyone got any suggestions as to a rom that doesnt have it on ?
Any help greatly appreciated

I remember reading something somewhere about the phone thinking it's being connected to a car dock all the time. It sounds like that's what is going on in your case, it would explain the GPS and the loudspeaker for calls - this is what you want when you're connected to a car dock.
If you don't use the car dock (I have never used it but I know people do) you could uninstall it, see if that fixes it
edit: found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901175

yeah found that one myself mate thanks, i uninstalled locations through cmd then switched off plugged usb in and switched on, this worked but only for one or two calls. gonna have a look and try uninstall the car dock app, if anyone knows how to do it , that would be great !!!

When it is open press menu and go to options and it will say something about automatic launch, un check that, then if you are rooted get titanium backup and uninstall it from there. Are you having problems with the speaker phone being on every time you make or receive a call? That's my problem and I can't figure out how to stop it.

Assuming you mean Car Panel.
Is it docked? If not, you should probably reflash your ROM and if you are restoring using Titanium Backup, don't restore Car Panel or the system data for it.
Car Panel
my evo cm7 wouldnt charge in my car even though the car panel app came up. i uninstalled it through Titanium Backup and now my phone charges!
My wives EVO is having the same issues. It started on FreshRom, so I switched to MikFroyo, and its doing the same thing. Would flashing a new radio have anything to do with it, because FreshRom was fine until a few days ago?

My friend's phone just started doing this. His USB started bugging out at the same time so I'm thinking the two issues might be related.
i fixd the car home thing!
ok.. for those who are seeing car home annoyingly pop up.. here is my solution.
1. extract the zip file that u use to install the google apps on ur computer.
2. once extracted, delete the car home apk found under system>app> carhomegoogle.apk.
3. once deleted, go to the first sub folder in the extrated folder. ( the folder should have two folders in there called META-INF and system)
4. highlight those folders and create a .zip file.
5. rename it something simple ( gapps may work. since your are replacing the original gapps.zip folder)
6. mount on to the root of ur sd card.
this part might sound a bit extreme but this is the only way to make sure..
7. go to ur phone's recovery, and reinstall cm7 and the new google apps.
thats it.
the key here is to delete the car home app from the zip file. since anything inside cant be tampered with,u must extract it and modify it that way. then remake a new .zip file that does not contain car home.
enjoy.
i am now car home free.
for anyone still having this issue, which just started for me this morning, it seems to be a hardware issue not a Software issue. I could fiddle with my USB jack and it would stop for a few then start back up i am guessing mine is worn down and causing it to send a false call for a car dock.
Just look up "Dock no-op" on the market that fixed it for me.
Titanium back up works well too. It's also faster and easier in my opinion.

Car dock opens randomly, regardless of the Rom

So my phone has this problem where my phone will randomly open the car dock. When the phones locked, unlocked, when I using it, it just randomly opens. I've reflashed roms to change and hope it was just one Rom but it still does it.
I even switched to miui which doesn't have a car dock and I got the car dock notification in the top bar and it kicked the gps on.

That is weird. Have you attempted to remove, freeze or rename the car dock app? If not, give it a try. Using a system level file manager like Root Explorer or adb, maneuver to the /system/app folder and either rename or delete .apk file associated with the car panel. I've deleted mine and I'm not sure of the exact name of it.

I've seen where some usb cables have the extra pin grounded and the car dock will open when plugged into any sort of charger, unchecking the option to start automatically under settings/dock will fix that.
Are you saying it opens without being plugged into anything all by itself?
I have had that same problem for about 5 months. I'm guessing u also have speakerphone active every time you start a call, right? What I always do is after I flash a new Rom go in to car panel- settings- and disable auto launch then open titanium backup and uninstall car panel. This doesn't work as good on sense 2.0 Roman tho, it won't ever actually pop up but it will be in your task bar constantly. Sorry u r going thru this too cuz I know how pissed it used to make me.
You probably have a problem with your USB port. Best thing to do is take it in to Sprint and get it looked at.

Thanks for all the quick replies guys. Yeah I figured it's probably a grounded pin somewhere making the phone think that it's always docked. I'm using MIUI now and I don't think I can uninstall the car panel part.
But by far the most annoying part is the phone always defaulting to speakerphone, totally awesome when I'm at college haha.
My girlfreind has the issue on her phone but only when using a certain charger. I didn't realize the problem she has with speakerphone activating were related. Does turning off the dock auto-launch also fix the speaker phone issue?

Car Mode enables itself

My evo has decided that it is forever in car mode. I have tried uninstalling the car mode apps, and even multiple Android OSs, but it will not go away. I am c currently using aokp milestone 5, but it shows up on milestone 4, and MikG (haven't tried any others yet)
HOW CAN I END THIS MADNESS???????
EVO 4G
AOKP-M5
Sprint
This is a symptom of a bad USB port... I would take it to a certified Sprint store, that is if you have TEP, and have them repair it. If the tech is actually smart they will do it even if the phone is rooted, because they will recognize it as a hardware error. Though it may be smart to throw a stock ROM on there and act like a noob when you go in... that always works.
Thanks
One thing you may want to try as an interim solution is to freeze the car panel application. I have My Backup Pro doing just that now for my evo running Classic Rom. If you have the paid versions of My Backup, or Titanium Backup, you can freeze apps. Don't know if it'll help in this case, but it may be worth a shot.

I didn't quote, but ur right... my bad
could also be a bad usb cable, had three cables do this to me. got hundreds of usb cables so i switched and bam no more car mode. which was weird since its usually one of the first apps i remove after flashing a rom, but it would still pop up. new cable fixed it for me.
good luck.

Manually block headset

Hi everyone,
I've been looking for a fix to my phone for weeks now, even got the 3.5mm jack changed, but can't find a fix. The problem: I plug an ordinary pair of headphones into my phone (no mic, no headset controls) and the phone thinks it's a headset with all the bells and whistles I said it doesn't have. As soon as something knocks the jack plugged in, it senses a headset-button-press and either starts/stops/skips music, or activates Google voice search. My phone is running android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean (Pacman). I've tried all apps (HeadsetBlocker, Toggleheadset2, SoundAbout) designed to handle this problem, without succes, that's why I'm looking for a manual way of disabling the controls. Isn't it possible to just remove a line of code from the system, or add a line to block the flipping thing? I don't even mind if it were a permanent irreversable fix, just someone please help! I've been musicless because of this for 3 months now. :' (
Problem remains
Lots of experts around then... -.- Does anyone know what the app - called Headset Blocker - actually does regarding the system? Or does anyone know how I could find out for myself what the app tries to do? I'm thinking of smth like an "app logcat", if such exists... All help appreciated, thanks in advance!

I am also interested in this issue. I have a Galaxy SIII with 4.1.2 and accidentally, it got wet around 2 months ago. The problem is that it detects no real headset plugs, not allowing using the MIC and internal speaker, unless using a real headset. My aim is to disable the "headset plug", but no luck with all the apps you mention. I have read that there are an issue with ICS versiones, but I would like to find a solution.
Install "disable autoplay" from play store. It kills the autoplay caused by headset.

It's just a icon for me, doesn't work.
Also, deleting /system/usr/keylayout/AVRCP.kl and /system/usr/keylayout/h2w_headset.kl doesn't work, too.

No audio through top speaker?

During voice calls I get no audio through the top speaker (people can hear me fine however so it's not a microphone issue). When I switch to speaker phone I at least get audio from the bottom speaker so I can use the phone. However, playing music or any video content both speakers work fine. I factory reset the phone and it worked fine for a few hours, then quit. Booted the phone in safe mode, didn't work. Factory reset and didn't install ANY apps, didnt even link a gmail to it, didn't work.
This will be my 3rd device (2nd replacement through verizon and the original) that have all had the same problem. I would say it's an app issue, but when it still doesn't work in safe mode, or before installing any apps....
Verizon is clueless and just keeps telling me they'll send me a new device. Any ideas?

Do not even know where to find these information. moreover the top speaker is completely off, do you believe that is a matter of tuning.
For sure the device need also a better tuning since the top speaker is less lowed than the bottom one.

You need your phone rooted & File explorer, you just open the app & copy /system to sdcard, pack it up & send to me. Or if you're unrooted, then FX file explorer can copy /system partition to sdcard (doesen't matter if it's internal, or external one) without root.
If you do that - i can take a look at system files & libs in order to know what's possible. Maybe it's also possible to force earpiece to reproduce music stream via mixer patch. Anyways, i'll better know if anything is possible only when i look through the files. The reason why i'm asking is because i've tried all img unpackers that i know, but they crash when i try to unpack any Oreo firmware img, for whatever reason.
Hello, i have made an App for this Problem. I have two Pixel 2 XL since 1 week and when i got my first call i hear, that the ringtone was very quiet.
So i tryed to solve this Probleme with an App. After 1 week my App ist now ready.

I don't have the device
Toggle off hearing aid setting
I ran into the same problem when I first setup my Pixel 2 XL and here is how I determined what caused it.
Verizon test calls are #832.
1) I tested the phone when I first got it without holding up to my ear, that has hearing aids, and the top speaker and both speakers worked fine.
2) I tested the phone #832 and held it up to my ear, the top speaker did not work, but when I put it on speaker mode, I can hear.
The way to fix is hit the phone application as if you are going to make a call, hit the three ellipse on the upper right side, this is a menu (3 dots) > Settings > Accessibility > Toggle off Hearing Aid.
I am a combat veteran, so I have two Resound Revision hearing aids to help me hear, these through a small 2.5 GH signature that caused the Pixel to automatically Toggle On the Hearing Aid feature.
I hope this solution works out for you.

My initial attempts failed because I was looking in the main system accessibility settings. When I finally went into the phone app and then clicked the 3-dots and selected settings, I was able to select that accessibility menu which contained the Hearing aids option. Turning that option off restored the top speaker phone function. Still no idea of how that option got set . . .
Thanks!
