Some Apps are not Available in Android Market & Titanium Backup also can't restore
Some of the common apps are not available in the market. My kindle fire is rooted and when I try to restore through tiatnium it also just hangs and cant restore. Some examples of the apps arer;
Citibank Mobile
Parcels
Wifi File Explorer
Also, how can we change the wallpaper if we are using another launcher, I am using ADW ex and I can only change the wallpaper after a restart and that too chnages back to some of the wallpapers from Amazon which keep changing every 4-5 mins.

When we had that problem with the new market on the nook color on cyanogenmod, we had to change the pixel density. I wonder if it's a similar issue?

Thanks a lot for your reply, can you please guide me how to change the pixel density?

IIRC (not sure) I think I used this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765639
I think we had to change it to 160 from CyanogenMod's 161...
Here's the link to the Nook Color market thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196417&page=10
Big giant disclaimer:I have no idea if this is related to the problems you're having. But it sounded similar enough to make me think of the problems we had on the nook.
good luck.

The default is 160 & changing to any other value messes up the keyboard.
I just tried different values & it seems that it has no effect on the market apps.
Thanks

It's likely that the apps don't show up due to a required feature in their manifest that the fire doesn't have. You can try contacting the devs and asking if they know why exactly.

I don't have a Kindle Fire...but I've been poking around between this and the Nook Tablet...
I had some experience with the Viewsonic gTablet and on that we had to change the build.prop file to gain access to the full market (specifically Netflix at that time, IIRC).

Once changing pixel density to 160 (or whatever value) market data/cache MUST be cleared before apps will allow you to install (for other tablets).

Not for nothing but I can't stand people that repeat this ad nauseam.

Actually, this isn't a bad place to bring this sort of problem to light. This type of information helps developers develop better software. If people keep getting pushed away, then the issues don't get brought to light. Sure, it could have gone in the general section too...but how many developers really go in there?

This x100.
Repeating rules and shutting people out is one fast way to discourage improvement, lower morale and blind our developers from fixing issues in their roms.
To the above poster, posts like yours are part of the reason the quality of XDA content has significantly declined.

Hey guys, I tried following the instructions in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1306
but to no avail. I still want to say the problem is with the build.prop file but I have no evidence to support this claim!

I remember doing those same steps when trying to access the full market on my Herotab and on my Galaxy S (after rooting and loading random ROMS).
Has anyone tried editing the pixel density in the build.prop file and then cleared the Market cache before opening the Market again..?
[EDIT] I tried setting the pixel density higher and lower.. no joy. I think we need to edit the fingerprint in the build.prop file...

This doesn't even make sense. The people developing ROMs, themes, and root methods are not likely to be the same developers that are developing the apps that aren't showing up in the Android Market on rooted Kindle Fires.
Once there is some viable development going on for the Kindle Fire, you'll all start to get annoyed when people who haven't developed anything start to clutter the development section with new threads. People come to the development sections to see what has been developed for their device.
That said, Kindle Fire development is in its infancy, so this thread being in development doesn't bother me (and presumably why there isn't a heavy moderator presence). All I'm getting at is that there's a reason XDA divides it's device forums into sub-forums. When someone respectfully asks that you consider the posting guidelines, it doesn't help discussion to put them down for doing so.

I noticed the same for the Facebook and Skype apps. It's possible to sideload them so that's what I did for the time being

"Don't keep activities" - anybody use it?

Love the phone but a few times the launcher has redrawn after exiting an app because of most likely memory issues. Anybody using this option? Assuming over time this would keep more memory free and reduce this issue. Any thoughts?

This is one of the reasons why I don't like that Google included these developer options pre-installed on this phone. They're developer options for a reason, we can install them if we need to.
This feature is designed so that developers can test their app to be sure that data is properly saved when is no longer in the foreground. For example, if a user receives a phone call or jumps to another app, the app needs to do what is necessary to save it's data. At times, Android can kill a process in the background. If the user plans to go back (perhaps they finished the phone call), they want to see what it is they were working on last. The developer is supposed to handle this case by rebuilding everything as it was before (to provide that seamless experience for the user when switching between apps).
This debug feature helps us test that it works.
For the average user, all you're really more likely to do is slow down your apps. As they will have to rebuild themselves when you resume them, and you may even open yourself to more quirky bugs (for those apps that didn't properly test the above scenario).
So please don't enable it unless you're doing it for development purposes. My 2 cents.
*EDIT* Here's a page from the Android Dev Guide justifying my explanation:
http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/debugging/debugging-devtools.html
Immediately destroy activities
Tells the system to destroy an activity as soon as it is stopped (as if Android had to reclaim memory). This is very useful for testing the onSaveInstanceState(Bundle) / onCreate(android.os.Bundle) code path, which would otherwise be difficult to force. Choosing this option will probably reveal a number of problems in your application due to not saving state. For more information about saving an activity's state, see the Activities document.

Thanks. I turned it off. Did notice some bugs while on. I just wish with 1GB of RAM the launcher wouldnt have to reload. Hopefully things get better. Might just be my apps but it happens quite often when leaving the browser.

weird.. how many widgets do you have on your launcher? the more widgets you have, the slower the launcher is.
Have you tried another launcher? The stock launcher has never been known for being fast and efficient, although I haven't had any issues with it (whereas I'm a LauncherPro fan on my other devices).

I have quite a few Widgets but nothing too crazy I don't think. I use LauncherPro on my other devices as well but I love this new launcher so I'm going to stick it out. Like I said the most common task that causes the issue is when I'm using the web browser and then come out of it. Otherwise its been stable. I've noticed the same thing with Honeycomb on my Xoom so it might just be one of those things I have to put up with.

i'm also noticing some redraw and occasional lag when hitting the home button.
I'm hoping that CM9's custom launcher will have an option to lock it in memory- that may increase the performance by a lot.
also when replacement launchers like go launcher start optimizing more for ICS those might be good options.
Have you tried converting your launcher into a system app? You'll need to use Titanium Backup Pro or something similar to do it for you, or simple copy the APK into your system/app folder... Really sped up my launcher!

Thanks for clarifying the meaning of "Don't keep activities"
my razr xt910 cannot be counted upon to run smoothly with all the apps simultaneously running and forcing itself to go into reboot. i then fancied an iPhone single styled system (as compared to Android multi-talks) cuz iPhone looks robust and responsive. all the killer that claimed to do the job looked more of a farce and then when i stumbled upon the destroy activity i was like OMG. srsly b4 using it I've only got just inner 100mb of ram, after using it i have a whooping 400mb ram. UI appears faster and all. regarding the relaunching of apps and battery life being used up. i think I'll start to worry about it on a later date. what say any body. ooh yes to add on, even after i deleted 40 apps on my phone it still hanged like fcuked. i guess i can reinstall them back again and not have to worry about it. btw i can't seem to root my xt910 for nuts so i can't custom ROM it along with all other fanciful mods that i hear about what others did to their phones.

Often Android market compatibility issues arise from changes made to the LCD-density property in the build.prop file.
If you've got root access, you can google your device and 'build.prop' to find the standard. You can use ES File Explorer (or a range of others) to change the property. Then if you change it back, it should work again. That's if it's a market compatibility issue.
I've got an SGS2, and when I installed earlier ICS ROMs they also had problems with Words with Friends. It would install properly, but then freeze or crash...leading to the acore process ending.
If it's a custom ROM, try posting in the forum where you DL'ed it. Either the dev will already know about it, or he won't. In either case, he should be able to tell you if there's a fix, if there's a fix-work-in-progress, if it's a samsung problem, or if you're just SOL.
If it's a stock ICS from Sammy...well, you might just be out of luck.
Like the gentleman said above. It's probably due to changing your resolution. Fortunately, I had the same problem and did a lot of research and found a fix. There's 2 ways to fix it.
1. Set it back to the default resolution, then reboot and clear the market's memory.
2. Pay for LCD Density Modder Pro (3 bucks) on android market. It can fix it so the resolution doesn't screw up the market any more. This is the route I took and it worked great.

Development died on that app a while back .. wonder if the privacy was actually private ??
That would be a bummer if it's dead - actually worked very good on my photon 2.3.4/5 versions - especially in customizing app specific permissions / overall surprised to see what's really going on albeit the listed, and at often times - vague permissions listed on the play store.
As said, it's [LBE] does not work for jellybean / wish there was a simply comparable app that will run just like this on stock/root only builds - pdroid is all I hear of as an alternative, but it requires a few steps/patch - not even sure if it works better and optimized for N7.
Having a permissions manager goes a long way - even if you look at things closely from legitimate market sources - it is only getting worse. I'm being far from naive here Although LBE's origins were questionable and skepticism grew, enough people had checked it out to their best ability; in concern to why the app itself needed data connection, and what (if anything serious) was being sent. Haven't seen anything comparable to its finite permissions control upon installing anything. The N7 still needs something for sure...,
What else is out there?

Apps that can be safely Frozen or Removed

Thought this may be useful for everyone to have as the device does sadly have a tendency to be a bit laggy.
Have followed a few guides and got some great info from XDA so trying to give a little back if I can
From what I have done I have found no ill effects that I have noticed so far, all fairly obvious choices so early on, but will get braver as I get more used to the handset and I'm sure others have been more adventurous than me and can help bulk the list up a bit and we can do away with a whole bunch of bloat to get a smoother ride from out G3. Some of these I froze as I prefer other 3rd party apps.
Frozen/Removed
Cell Broadcast
E-Mail
Documents
File Manager
Internet/Stock Browser
LG Health
LG Search Widget Provider
LG Setup Wizard
McAfee Security
Messaging (stock)
Music
Video
Video Trim
Weather
Weather Theme
Weather Platform
If you have any other suggestions please post and and I'll add updates to Post 1 for easy reference :highfive:
Hope this helps some fellow G3 users

They do different things. Freezing them is like uninstalling them - they are gone and won't work at all but can be retrieved by unfreezing. Greenifying them just hibernates them but they work as normal.

Could we have a non-root list, and also a description of what gets disabled/broken for each one. E.g. what does Cell Broadcast do? (I've googled, I 'm now aware, not relevant currently in the UK).

Perhaps this is related to minfree settings? Does the fire kill empty apps off too eagerly? A bit like the original moto g did? Edit: OK I checked. The fire has pretty standard minfree values for a 2gb device. Must be something else going on. You could try an xposed mod called app settings or app called memory locker on play store. Both require a rooted device.

I was hoping that with drastic price drop, some of Android gurus will buy this phone and that we will have some AOSP roms and hacks, but nothing happened? IDK, this situation with services look like intentional block. Its ridiculous that apps from their store can't have 100%functionality. I can understand if they block sodeloaded apps, but this current situation is ridiculous.
