unable to Root 6.3

Hello there
so i rooted my kindle on the 6.2.1 and i had no problem
after that i used BUrito 2 to root 6.2.3
and strangely the super user app didnt work
so when the 6.3 was released updated my device and followed the method below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24124828#post24124828
my device got stuck on yellow triangle and got an error on the cmd waiting for device .
so i searched that and fixed it using this method
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1422832
and continued using the ADB command .
and this didnt work .
i tried the KFU (witch is a great tool)
didn't also help
whenever i load the super user app it crash and give me an error
"the application super user(process com.noshufu.android.su) has stopped unexpectedly.please try again and a button Force close
tried to run SU Update fixer
it get stuck on gaining root access result fail solution download and flash and update zip fromandroissu.com
am not sure now why i cant root my device
can some expert direct me please
am thinking to reset to factory default and test but am not sure if that will work and i have FBmode on my device i dont want to lose my apps either .
would suggest to redo according to jcases thread and take care to not miss a point - maybe redownload the superuser.apk
and which version of kfu ? 0.9.4 ?

test my device still not rooted sighsssss bummer
at first kindle fire utility 0.9.4. did not work for me either and what I had to do was uninstall the drivers for the kindle fire, then plug it back in and let it install again. After that kfu worked perfect for me. I installed twrp, then I rooted, then I installed firefirefire

same problem
I'm having the same problem using KFU 0.9.4 and 0.9.5. Root seems to work perfectly, but when the device reboots I do not have root. I don't even have superuser in my apps. When trying to install google apps I get "permission denied" for the last three apps due to not having root.
help?
Yeah, KFU 0.9.5 doesn't seem to be fully baked yet on 6.3 either. I tried installing the Google Apps and ran into permission issues also.
Here's what I got at the very end:
failed to copy 'apps\system\vending.apk' to '/system/app/vending.apk': Permissio
n denied
failed to copy 'apps\system\GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk' to '/system/app/Googl
eCalendarSyncAdapter.apk': Permission denied
failed to copy 'apps\system\GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk' to '/system/app/Googl
eContactsSyncAdapter.apk': Permission denied
Well, I have the same problem drumaster12 has, i used KFU v0.9.5 the rooting process went smoothly but superuser wasn't there plz someone reply and thx for all of you guys.
FYI... according to the development thread, an updated version of KFU is forthcoming. So at the moment the best course of action is to wait and see.

6.3 root method
First off long time lurker first time poster here.
I got one of these kindles from the sale and was able to get root. I've unrooted and tried again and got root again so there are two different problems. 1 - Sometime superuser.apk doesn't get installed and 2 - The Play market doesn't get installed. I used 2 different methods to over come this. hopefully they'll help.
First steps to root with Kindle Fire Utility 0.9.5
1 - With the kindle not connected run the install_drivers.bat
2 - Connect the kindle and push disconnect when it comes up
3 - Run option 2 - "Install Permanent Root with Superuser"
4 - Run option 5 - "Install Latest FireFireFire"
5 - Run option 3 or 4 - "Install Latest TWRP/Clockwork Recovery"
Once those 5 steps are done you have 2 options to get superuser and play market
Option 1 (Easiest)
Since you now have FireFireFire and a custom recovery simply wipe and flash pre-rooted 6.3 rom This is the one I used [ROM] Stock rooted 6.3
Once that is flashed run Kindle Fire Utility again and in the Extra menu run option 5 - Mount Read/Write
Then run option 1 - Install Google Apps / Go Launcher EX
This is the easiest method the rom is already rooted and has busybox seems pretty fast too.
Option 2 (More involved)
After the initial 5 steps:
1a - run the extras option and Install google Apps / Go launcher EX (the last three will fail but that's ok)
1b - close Kindle Fire Utility and open a command prompt (start button type cmd)
2 - In the command prompt type: "cd " now drag and drop the tools folder that is inside the Kindle Fire Utility folder. (make sure you put a space after cd before you drop the tools folder on the command prompt.) This will auto fill in the path to tools folder. Push enter.
3 - Type "adb install " Drag and drop Superuser.apk located inside the files folder of kindle fire utility. This auto fills the path to Superuser.apk and push enter
4 - Now you need to install a root file explorer of your choice. I used ES File Explorer. *Important* the version of ES File Explorer from the amazon market is too old and will not work. Go To: http://www.estrongs.com/en/download.html and downloaded the latest version.
4b - Install the .apk you just downloaded by typing "adb install " and drag the .apk from your downloads folder and drop it on the command prompt and push enter
5 - Now you need to enable your kindle to drag and drop files to it. On the kindle: Tap the top status bar and tap "USB is Connected"
6 - go to the Kindle Fire Utility directory -> apps -> system. In this folder there are three .apk's GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk and Vending.apk Copy all three to the root of your "sdcard" on your kindle. (Drag and drop to your kindle)
7 - On kindle tap disconnect. You should see ES File Explorer icon on your carosel Tap to open it. In ES File explorer Tap menu at the bottom and tap settings.
8 - Under "Path settings" Check the box "Up to Root"
9 - Under "Root settings" Check the box "Root Explorer" Tap "yes" on the popup and tap "allow" on the super user window.
10 - Under "Root settings" check "Mount File System"
11 - now your ready to copy the files. Tap back to go back to the sdcard. Tap "Select" on the top toolbar. Select by taping the three .apks you copied over. Once all three are selected Tap "Copy" on the top toolbar
12 - Tap "Up" on top toolbar. Tap "system". Tap "app" and Finally tap "Paste" on top toolbar.
13 - Reboot your kindle and you should now have the Market working on your kindle.
Note this is what worked for me. I've done it both ways as well as rooting with out Kindle Fire Utility and just jcase's method. Regardless of the method to root one of these two methods were required to get market running.
Hope this helps someone.
ndpete, like I said in the other thread, SuperUser worked fine, your version of ES File Explorer worked fine, but I still get the permissions issues when installing Market. I'm at my wit's end here.
ok, this is funny.
i got the 6.3 update so I've lost the root and this is confirmed by root explorer. But:
.- i can install apps from the market
,- i can watch videos from the Amazon service.
any ideas?
I mean, I don't need to root anymore, since everything works just fine.

[Q] Kindle Fire 8.4.9 Root?

Just got a "factory refurbished" Kindle Fire 8.9 HD for a STEAL (Amazon gave $50 back on the refurb).
Anyway, now that I have it and have been playing with it for a few weeks, I've realized that the current root methods (including Root Many Android) say they have rooted it, but I don't quite have all the SU access. Digging deeper, I've found that I have System Version 8.4.9.
I can get a partial root, but cannot mount the system to RW
Anyone out there working on the Root of Kindle Fire 8.4.9?
I would just downgrade it and flash a custom rom.

Stunts,
I'd love to do that, but one of the issues with the current root is I can't use KFFirstAide to do much of anything. I would like to keep the KF as close to stock as I can, as I have kids and the FreeTime app is nice. I'm mostly looking to get the Google Play store up and working.
I've done a search but don't see anything on how to downgrade the KF from 8.4.9 without having root.
What am I missing?
You don't need root. When you initially power the device on it should briefly be detected as a jem device. Download then drivers in my signature and extract them somewhere. Now open the device manager and plug the kindle in while off, when you see the jem device, right click it and hit update drivers, and tell it to look where you extracted mine. If this is windows 8 you will have to disable driver signature enforcement first. If you can manage to get this step completed the rest is simple, it basically involves this: grab a utility like kindle fire first aid and shift + right click it and hit new command window here. With the kindle off and unplugged type
Code:
fastboot -I 0x1949 getvar product
once it says waiting for device plug the kindle in while it is off, it should enter fastboot, from there you can use kffa to downgrade it.

Tried to downgrade. I can get to fastboot without any issues, but it looks like there are issues with KFFA (I'm using 4.1.87-beta). I get the following when trying to "Completely Restore the KFHD 8.9 8.1.4" (Option 7)

Would You Like To Wipe Data And Cache (y/n) ?
After this, I wipe data and cache and then didn't finish the registration (so I didn't get "pushed" an update, just in case)
Come back up and I'm still in 8.4.9
I've gone in to dropbox and pulled all the images to my computer. Is there a way to move these and get them properly mounted in adb? I'm a relative n00b but getting a bit more comfy in the adb environment and may be able to do it from there, with a bit of help?
Thanks!
Do not actually use KFFA use this method --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2468988
You only need kffa for adb.exe and fastboot.exe ect.
PS. Be sure NOT to to connect to the Internet after until you have OTA blocked, and if you Like you can manually upgrade to what ever firmware you would like, I went back to v848

Now I'm stuck in the Kindle Fire boot screen - orange. I got through all the flashes without an issue and unplugged on the final reboot per your instructions. I try to adb to it and there are no devices found.
Edit: Whoops. Was using my old shortcut command keys (arrows) and just changed what flashed to system - forgot to flash to the right places. Trying again!

Is your Kindle up and running? I also have a Kindle Fire HD 8.9 and yesterday I downloaded latest update.bin file (8.4.9) from Amazon and updated my Kindle and later rooted it using the manual method described in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069117 thread. It was total success. Just don't miss a single step from that method.
Actually I had my Kindle (ver 8.4.8) rooted before and Google Play installed with the same method but I was having some issues (not because of rooting but because I had been tinkering with the system apps) so decided to update to overcome those glitches. I installed RootKeeper from Google Play and told it to protect my root access during update process but this crap could not. After update I lost my root and now Google Play Store and related services stopped working, as I didn't have root access so couldn't manage to delete their apks from System apps. So I decided to root it again with the same method and I did it, after rooting it again I went to system apps and deleted old apks of Google Play and other related apks. Then I agin installed Google Play using the automatic method mentioned in above thread.
Sorry if this story is irrelevant but I just wanted to share my experience so any one searching for something could find a clue from it. One thing is confirmed here, KFFirstAid can easily install Google Play after 8.4.9 update and the above mentioned manual method can root it successfully. I am not sure about automatic method though.
you have been very usefull! Thx...but, i still can't root with any method
Can i ask you for some help (i've actually the 8.4.9 version) in private?

Already tried this. It works partially only once it is fully done rebooting the kindle fire is running so slowly as to be unworkable for any thing. Also the lock swipe etc looks torn inhalf. At this point i have to use recorvery to get it to respond properly. I need to root or change rom out right (preferably) But the fast boot commands do nothing. Tried getting it to show up as gem device and use the other drivers that are suppose to let me enter fast boot by a fastboot command. It does not seem to work.
So after trying the method in post 9 again i need to recover to factory again. As it is running extremely slow

Stunts what is the best surefire way to downgrade? My previously rooted kindlefire hd 8.9 just got ota updated to 8.4.9. I had disabled ota i thought but it would seem it wasnt. Now i can not reroot it properly. I want to just go with a custom rom and be done with this mess. I do not have a fastboot cable. But it would seem there are ways around that such as the fastboot -i etc etc how ever i tried that and it did not work (including getting the drivers to the jem. I think i may be missing the chance to get the update drivers bit done intime (not sure here). At any rate help!!! heh
Again what i want to do
Downgrade to easiest rom ver to flash from to a custom rom using what ever meathod is the most effective minus fastboot cable. also recommendations on rom to use are very welcome.

This worked for getting root back, but didn't initially work for the Google apps. It looks like Amazon filled the file system /system leaving no room for the apps. Since I don't use Text To Speech, I removed /system/tts/ivona/vox_en_us_salli22i which is 100+MB, freeing plenty of space for Google apps. I saved a copy to /sdcard just in case. I recommend saving a copy of system.img first, since my first attempts at removing files deleted the apk, but didn't free the space and I had to do a restore once.
Full Manual Root - Kindle Fire HD 8.9 System Version 8.4.9 on Ubuntu Linux 14.04
Hi Guys,
If none of the usual methods work, here is a method for rooting Kindle Fire HD 8.9 with the new 8.4.9 system version. It was written for and tested on Linux, but should work on Windows as well.
Requires Linux and "DOS" scripting knowledge - particularly if anything goes wrong. If you are not familiar with linux shell, please do not try!
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
I was struggling a whole day with rooting my Kindle Fire HD 8.9 with the 8.4.9 stock rom. I use Linux (Ubuntu 14.04) and don't really have access to Windows. I've tried several methods, including several versions of the Bin4ry method, but the result was:
a) nothing happened at the end,
b) the system was hell slow, but did not get the root prompt/access.
Finally I've managed to root with a full manual - no script running - method. It was based on Bin4ry v18.5.1 root: the tools were uploaded to the kindle from the package, and the rooting steps were based on the RunMe.bat (manually entering step-by-step). It requires an installed adb on the linux machine (I have it from an Android SDK install)!
Sources:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277105 : I've started from here. I recommend to read this before starting the process.

http://pocketnow.com/2012/10/10/root-without-unlocking : for understanding the exploit
Requirements:
1. Install adb on the linux machine.
2. Download Root MANY ANDROID 32-bit!(Dropbox): https://dl.dropbox.com/u/54456659/Win32.zip and extract.
Rooting:
The steps are based on manually entering the commands of the "1)Normal" method of the RunMe.bat:
1) In a terminal change to the directory where Win32.zip was extracted and enter:
Code:
adb push stuff/busybox /data/local/tmp/.
adb push stuff/su /data/local/tmp/.
adb push stuff/Superuser.apk /data/local/tmp/.
adb shell chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/busybox
2) Restore the fake “backup”. Note: _do not click restore on your Kindle device_! Just enter the command into the command prompt on your PC and press the enter key:
Code:
adb restore fakebackup.ab
3) Run the “exploit”:
Code:
adb shell “while ! ln -s /data/local.prop /data/data/com.android.settings/a/file99; do :; done”
(It will display a lot of "link failed File exists" lines)
4) Now that the “exploit” is running, click restore on your device.
5) Once it finishes, reboot your device. Note: Don’t use your kindle yet, this exploit reboots into emulator mode which will be laggy with a flickering screen (or no display at all). This is normal.
Code:
adb reboot
6) Once rebooted, open a shell:
Code:
adb shell
Check: Once you do step 6, your should have a root shell (your prompt should be #, not $). If it’s not #, start again from step 2.
7) Continue with the steps of the RunMe.bat - now entering the commands in the root shell:
Code:
/data/local/tmp/busybox mount -o remount,rw /system
/data/local/tmp/busybox mv /data/local/tmp/su /system/xbin/su
/data/local/tmp/busybox mv /data/local/tmp/Superuser.apk /system/app/Superuser.apk
/data/local/tmp/busybox cp /data/local/tmp/busybox /system/xbin/busybox
chown 0.0 /system/xbin/su
chmod 06755 /system/xbin/su
chmod 655 /system/app/Superuser.apk
chmod 755 /system/xbin/busybox
rm /data/local.prop
reboot
Done .
The Method described above didn't work for me.
Tried to do it step by step but the exploit part is not working, gives me a syntax error.
Then i used runme.bat and the exploit seems to work (slow reboot, scrambled kindle logo) but root isn't working properly afterwards.
It's kinda half-rooted now, with SuperSU working and displaying "granted root access..."-messages but if i try to install the play store i'm stuck.
ESexplorer is in root mode, mounted system R/W but when i try to move vending.apk to system/app it fails. No root access it seems
Opening SuperSU results in a failed update process....
Any kind of help is deeply appreciated...
Fixing that syntax error

This method worked for me! I also got a syntax error the first time arround but I fixed it by splitting this command (adb shell "while ! ln -s /data/local.prop /data/data/com.android.settings/a/file99; do :; done") into 2 separate command 1) adb shell, 2) while ! ln -s /data/local.prop /data/data/com.android.settings/a/file99; do :; done
After taking away the quotes it worked exactly as described!

[Q] Thinking about buying a fire tv. can you install apk's without root?

So I am looking to buy an amazon fire tv. I talked to someone at customer service and they said it will come with the new update so I won't be able to root it. I want to know if there is a way to install apk's without root? Thank you.

Ya you can install apps all the time but if the app requires root no go !
Click here for thread with more info
The best way is if you have something like a Logitech K400r Keyboard and you install the following through ADB sideloading:
Terminal Emulator (allows ADB on Fire TV itself)
Opera Browser (access to apk files and much, much more)
ES File Explorer (management and many other useful things like finding out the directory and name to type in Terminal for ADB installs)
And finally,App Stores like 1Mobile and Appchina (although Chinese only,so it is hard to navigate)
You can't directly install the apps downloaded by 1mobile,but you can rename them to short names for the ADB install command to install them that way.
I can't remember the kill and start commands before Terminal Emulator works since I've had root priviliges for so long.
I think it was "ADB Connect localhost" for the first step though.

[Q] Flash Player on Amazon TV

Hello,
is it possible to install a browser with Flash Player on Fire TV
I need this feature to look my .psasquashtv
If i want to see this matches, a flash player Plug in is needed.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks
Thomas
Flash works just fine, but the Android version of this itself can have some performance problems because of the lazy ex-devs who canceled the damn thing.
Here is the safest link for Android's flash player.
Just scroll down and download the latest version and sideload with your preferred method.

I got my Fire TV yesterday and was able to install Firefox and flash player (via adb install) and it mostly works OK.
@D33H,
can you tell me the way to install via adb?
do you have a description?
Thanks
Thomas

PM'd as there are links not sure if I can post on forum.
After you get ADB working, install the following...
1. Terminal Emulator
2. Any web browser like Opera. (for getting apk files from 1mobile,wandoujia,appchina,voga360,and Aptoide. Also evozi or apkleecher to get free Play Store app files.
3. A screen rotation/orientation app for locking to landscape orientation.
4. ES File Explorer for figuring out the exact name of an apk and renaming it to something easier.
After getting all of these, you can now easily use ADB in Terminal Emulator on your Fire TV to install downloaded apk files.
Starting up commands (3)
Code:
adb kill server
Code:
adb start server
and
Code:
adb connect
Template is
Code:
adb install sdcard/Download/file.apk
Or if the file is in another directory, you will need to type that one in.
Replace "file" with your apk's filename.
Edit:You only have to do the three starting up commands the first time, after that, you should be able to use "adb install" directly.
Hi
Shall I use the flash player for ICS oder the hacked flash player for 4.4?
Cheers
The 4.4 hacked one does not work right on Fire TV.
Just get the latest 11.1 version for "Android 4.0" which is the 11.1.115.81 one.

Fire stick - adbfire - device offline

OK so I installed the system update recently. I already had Kodi all set up on my Fire stick. When the RC1 update was released I set about updating Kodi.
I followed the guide here:
http://www.tweaking4all.com/home-theatre/xbmc/kodi-on-amazon-fire-tv/
Eventually I got adbfire to connect (had to turn adb debugging on and off first though). I pushed the Kodi RC1 apk over as advised on the guide (near the bottom). However when I open ADB Shell and attempt to install using
adb install -r kodi.apk
I get an error saying the device is offline. It mentions emulator-5554. I'm at a loss what to do to solve this. I'm half tempted to try install the Kodi.apk using Total Commander but am unsure whether all my Kodi addons and settings will be retained.
Any advice please before I go and possibly make things worse!?!?! Thanks!
