I really miss a few features on my HTC Hero. Sadly it seems like the Hero was much more userfriendly when it comes to hardware design choices.
1. PenTile Matrix Display freaks me out. I can see the rough edges very easily. Makes my eyes having problems with focusing because the edges seem blurry. I have read a lot about this problem prior to getting an Desire so i shouldn't complain. Still it's much more visible than some people try to make it sound. Especially in white text/ black background.
2. Hardware Buttons: Call Buttons...yeah everybody can see that the Desire doesn't have those, and that's not my main gripe. My MAIN problem is that i can't wake this damn screen with ANY other button than the POWER Button, which happens to be positioned at the most uncomfortable position available. It was so much more user friendly on the Hero where i can wake and unlock the screen by two hardware buttons at the bottom.
3. Android Market is SLOW: Why is the Android market like 500 times slower to start a download than my old hero?
4. trackpad: the trackwheel for the hero was more precise.
5. color saturation. welcome to the candy land! Reds and orange colors burn into your eyes. some people like that.
6. it killed my microsd card...well ok i don't know if this is the desires fault but still: suddenly my sd card was shown as faulty. On the PC is works without any problems, but i had to format it in order to use it with the desire.
Of course there are some good things too, like the speed. The desire is really fast, but not THAT much faster than the Milestone. And the overall built quality is great.
Everything you mention is why I LOVE my Desire - vibrant colours, awesome screen, optical pad instead of ball which only ends up breaking/getting clogged with dust...can't fault it IMO (except the Market, it is a bit slow but meh)
according to your point nr 6. did you always safety remove it after plugging in to the PC ?
well i'm sort of used with the "power button to wake the device" since i had a winmo device before the desire, so i don't really see it as a bad thing

i'm using windows 7 64bit and never did that, my sd card was show as faulty once so i powered off the phone took out the card, putted in my pc and saw that everything was working fine, putted it again in the phone and never had a problem again.

awesome screen? Have you seen the Motorola Droid live?
About the colors, they are not reproduced correctly as many tests have proven. But i already said that this is also a personal preference.
But the bad resolution quality (comapred to the droid) of the PenTile Matrix display is not a matter of preference, because nobody would prefer the PenTile concept compared to the usual RGB per Pixel approach.

no, and actually i believe this was the problem. I only unmounted the sd card using the desire/hero, but never ejected the card on windows prior to that. Just recently i found out that i have to eject the card via windows before unmounting it.

Why would you need call buttons? My screen turns on as soon as I pull it from my ear (proximity sensor) quite easy to touch the big red bar then isn't it?

My market doesn't appear to be any slower, and download is only improved, I have a 20 mbit connection and with my hero on wifi I would max get 500kb/s
The desire reaches full connection speed @ 1500kb/s so download from market is a lot faster.

More precise but it got dirty very quick, mine even changed color from white to yellowish (maybe I should stop smoking) but not only nicotine sticks to it. Everything sticks to it.

I've not seen the Droid, nor do I want to. Motorola phones are some of the WORST I've ever had the pleasure (or not) to use. I've no issues with the Desire's screen and bar the slight pink issue I can't fault it.
As said, this is all personal opinion but putting a thread about why you hate a device in the forum where people who love it frequent is asking to get flamed!!

He only hates a few parts of it, not the whole thing, what's wrong with that?
I agree on most points, though this is my first android phone. The first thing I noticed when I turned it on was the jagged line thing because of the pentile display, its no way near as nice looking as a display should be with that ppi. It kind of defeats the point of a hi res screen.
But other than that and the fact that sense sucks compared to stock ui, I love this phone

lol you will have it as it's impossible to not. Its easiest to notice on the edge of each key on the keyboard. You can quite clearly see the individual pixels, which you shouldn't really see on a high res screen

your eyes probably don't notice it, which is actually very good in this case.
Sadly my eagle eyes can see it very clearly. I just have to wait a few year, then i won't see the problems either.
But believe me the Motorola Milestone Display is just better by a huge margin. I had a testdevice for my blog for about 2 months, and the display is fantastic.
samac92 is completely right, when he says that the pentile technology defeats the point of having a (pseudo) WVGA resolution. If you ever have the chance to compare the Motorola droid vs. Desire display, do it. The difference is huge, because the droid has real WVGA resolution as every pixel has RGB color informations, while pentile pixel only have two color informations per pixel.
I've got perfect 20/20 vision, I just probably haven't looked close enough tbh - a slightly jagged keyboard really doesn't bother me. Coming from the HD2 with it's huge (but washed out) screen this is a god send and easily the best phone I've had...and I've had a lot!!
No doubt something else will come out in future but for now I honestly have no issues with the Desire. If I did I'd be rid of it

#1: i was hoping that the pentile problem wasn't as bad. But sadly it is quite bad indeed.
#2 i don't need call buttons at any cost, i need hardware buttons at the bottom of the device (don't care if its a call button or any other button) which can wake up the screen, and put it so sleep mode. I don't want to reach out to the power button every time, as this is not a natural movement when holding the device with one hand.
Also redialing using the "start call" button was very comfortable as you would directly open the dialer app. It's quicker than having to use a shortcut app on the homescreen imho.
#3 not the download itself is slower. but the time that passes until the download starts. There are time where i have to wait for 3-4 minutes until the download starts. Having a good downstream is great, but on my hero i have the app installed before the download starts on the desire on some occasions.

you are right, the HD2 was somehow blurry and washed out.
The sad thing is that i don't have to look close to see the rough edges on the desire display. i can see it very easily.
But you really miss out on the milestone display, you don't have to wait for future devices to blow out the desires display out of the water. After seeing that milestone magic, the desire display is just no contest anymore. I would have opted for the milestone, but other than the display the desire just has much better hardware specs like RAM and CPU. i also like sense.
And the milestone doesn't have the new launcher style of the N1 after the 2.1 update, but still the plain old boring android 1.x launcher.
I wouldn't be caught dead with the Milestone - every review I've read has said it's crap and a screen just isn't enough to have a phone I'm afraid...

hmm very interesting as nearly all known media like engadget and gizmodo as well as all big media in germany really praised this device.
I praised it on my blog review too. And i'm definetly not preferring motorola usually. I'm a HTC fan starting from MDA Compact (HTC Magician) days a decade ago.
The Milestone was the first real killer Android device which sold some impressing numbers. Of course the HTC Hero wasn't bad either, but it didn't have the impact that the droid/milestine had.
Well I've just looked long and hard at the keyboard and I can't see any individual pixels.
But I am 40, so that might be another benefit of getting older.
It was the very first thing I noticed on the Desire, even though it took me a while to find what it was. I don't think good or bad eyesight has anything to do with us noticing or not noticing the PenTile issue. I also see issues on HD tv's and expensive HD Projectors, that no one else sees. And no, my vision is far from perfect. I don't wear glasses, but other than that, my sight is average at the most. So I guess it has to do with how your brain process the visual input. Oh, and I am over 40 too

Download appbrain from the market then you can use the appbrain.com site for apps then sync to your phone from your pc.
That site is faster to use than the market place

Im not native english so if i do misstakes please don't be so hard with me.
I want to make a review of my first week after a long life with my HD2.
Prolog: Why change from HD2?
I was on HD2 on the first day it appeared. I liked it very much even with this old fashioned Windows 6.5. Before i was with an Orbit or known as P3300 which gets an free Winmo 6 upgrate after a long life with Winmo 5. I was told that HD2 would get a similar upgrade but as Microsoft changed their rules with the buttons it never came. So i found out that i can Upgrade it myselfe thx to this forum. First i got on WP7 but soon i feeled to much in a cage so i changed after 6 month WP7 expirience to Android Miui. After my Usb port brokes and i needed to use an external device to load my battery i looked around if there is a new phone upcoming to get an upgrade that satisfy me or if i will buy a used HD2 to flash it again. If the One X wasn't upcomming i totaly would have stayed on HD2. It's fast, stable and for what its needed its doing a good job and you don't feel that this old boy is already 3 years old. Maybe it was far beyond its time.
Buy it.
I went to a local media store which i was told get the device on the 4th of april. I was there on 2nd of april and surprise surprise i got one early for 579€ (round about 758 $). So i got home with my new gray One X. The box was smaler than i expected.
Finaly home with my baby.
Unboxing was fast and there i hold it in my hands trying to get in turned on. Didn't work untli I loaded it for about 5 min. But then i hat the first experience with the One X getting ready for its first breath. And it came up fast. I was glad that i could use my old Apps that i bought. As it is my second Android device i didn't know that and i didn't expect it. Set up was fast and easy and soo i got all my old apps and configurations on it. Sense makes still no sense for me but i don't care about it.
Tip for those who came from HD2 too: One X askes you if you want to get your old device data through bluetooth. If you want to make this say that your old tdevice is an HTC Desire. Then it works.
Apps
I hate apps that are preinstalled and not deinstallable. Most of them are usefull some of them are nothing more than an add. Apps i recognized as this and deaktivated them are soundboud and 7digital. Never need them and never will.
Some apps that seem to be a little glitchi on One X are like the Mathon browser. I think there are more glitchi ones and they glitch because of the new software menubutton that apears in some apps which need one. never will understand why they want to get rid of the menu hardkey.
Everything else flawless and smooth.
The feeling and the body.
I can't realy say why but my HD2 seemed to be much more precios. Maybe because of the full glas front and the metal back. I don't realy know.
Theres a little chink around the glas on my One X and espeacialy the one on the top of the displye seemes to be some kind of dirt gatherer. I have to use a little brush every day to clean it, also it looks cheap.
The One X is lighter than the HD2 but bigger. As its thinner too i have no problems to get it in my pocket. Feels good and comfortable as an everyday device.
No SD card sucks. My One X has already only 6gb left. Hope Dropbox will be usefull to compensate this incomprehensible mistake for not build an build in SD card slot.
No Battery exchange. I use myphone much and for everything. As my HD2 gets a lousy battery after 2years i was glad to be able to just buy a new one. I hope this battery has a propper technologie and will last longer than on my HD2. For the usage it lasts enought. I could get along a Day without load and with good usage. I use the atomaticly brightnesscontrol and 2 Hours musik, 2 hours gaming and 1 hour navigate while calling multiple persons din't make it sweat. In the evening it wants some juce with still 30% left. I think this is acaptable for a 4,7 device with 5 cores.
Multitouch
I tested this one because on HD2 it sucks that there is a second point recognised but after that you have to get of your fingers to recognize a new one.
At first i thought "**** only 2 points" but then i found an option whicht told me that its set on recognize just 3 fingers for better control. I turned it of and then i got 10 fingers regocnized. Whats realy nice is that you can touch outside the screen and even over the softkeys and it still keeps tracking your fingers.
Performance
Fast like hell.
Never hat such a fast device that size. Games, espeacialy tegra ones are awesome in there graphics but still there is no good one that impresses me with a good gameplay. Hope there will be more. Camera is fast and good. Pictures are good but not awesome. Flashlight is weak and round about half as bright as it was on HD2. Skype with the frontcamera is good and it was about time to get this usable.
Hot
I think this is normal but on intensive apps make the phone get very warm. It won't burn but never get my HD2 so warm. After taking a bigger video with the cam i realy feelt my One X in my trausers. Nothing to worry about but something you will regocnize too and think about.
Sound.
Good even with the headphones that where in the Box. I don't like that kind of headphones and im more used to inear ones oder that ones that go all over your head but the sound quality is realy good and much better than on the HD2. As the HD2 was good enought for me for hearing music outside this doesn'T realy impress me. But good to have.
Screen
Awesome. Perfect pixel ratio for me . I will never need more. Colours a good and not so overloaded as on the OLED ones. Movies, pictures and websites just look gread. Ebooks are perfect.
Thinks im looking forward to.
Dockingstation. Yes hell i will get one.
Medialink. I realy like to use that for presentations. Hope it will be available soon.
What i miss when i think of my HD2?
Flashlight. It was awsome to use the home button as flashlight. Ok i can use now an app but even then its still just half as bright as on my hd2.
SD Card. Yes that realy sucks.
Hardware buttons. I don't know why everyone likes this softkeys that are only an extention of the touchscreen. I love them when they make click sounds and you feel it clicking.
In the end.
I slowly get used to the One X. Its a great device and the price is worht it. I think going back would be hard. But if my HD2 would broke like that i think i would have stayed there minimum another year or too. I still will load the 3 Batterys i have and use my HD2 as navigation device when im on trekking tours. It's still an device with a right to live.
But now my new One X has a new challenge to show me HTC is still the best company for me when i think about smartphones.

I have already have so much music on it and the bigger problem are movies with the native 720p. i only have about 2 movies on it and they are like 4gb each. As it was jsut to test the experience on a television they will not be there everytime but i like to keep 2 or 3 movies there for wasting my time while i wait for a train or something like that.
edit. Yes 32gb stock. But only 25 for data free. Rest is system and apps.
Thanks for taking the time to write the review, I pretty much agree with you on everything, except maybe for it looking cheap, but then I like a minimalist style.
No SD slot is a little frustrating, although in fact, i never actually fully used the 16GB card I had in my Desire, I really like to have the option.
Battery is a concern, my Desire battery survived the 2 years i had it without a problem but it is a worry that if this one does not then it will be expensive to have it replaced. For long journeys I will consider buying an external battery pack.

I realised that the especialy the tegra 3 exsample games are very high draining my battery to. normal ones don't. the glowball demo also ist not very perfect jet. when you drain so much battery while downloading maybe some settings are different.
make sure you download it from wlan. it feels like to get much data from your LTE drains the battery faster.
i didn't only play this was a list what i did on a day normal usage without getting battery to 0%.

I enjoyed your review, but can't agree with on the soft/hardbuttons. I'm so glad I'll have a device with soft buttons... I feel "guilty" when I press HD2 buttons because I always think that I'm wearing them out and that eventually they will fail.
You talked about ebook reading. My One X hasn't arrived yet, so please could you take a picture comparing HD2 and One X on a ebook reader app? I would like to see how much more text One X displays for page. Thanks!

There you are. As you can see the normal PDF view has this software menu button so you can't realy make it fullscreen. think there will be a better app for ebooks but for showing this will be good enought. i tryed to scale both on a letter size i think i can read good. on hd2 you can meke it even smaller but the pixelating will get so high that its not so comfortable to read. even with this high ratio i like the letters bigger but they are sharper an thats the reason why i like reading on my One X. The difference isn't so hig as the HD2 had a very high resolution for its time too. 800x480 compare to 1280x720. still it's not as good as e-ink contrast but as it has a higher res than e-ink this is still a good alternative. Also that the contrast of the screen is more realistic than AMOLED ist good for reading.
The button thing is something that depents on taste. i liked them more but we will se if i get used to the soft ones. This was no real critic of me maybe more an experience i wanted to share.
ps.: yes there is dirt in (not on) my HD2 screen

Another question regarding screen size: is One X wider than HD2 or are they roughly the same size? When you go back to HD2 from One X do you think: «Hey, this is small», or it isn't that noticeable?

I know. I hadn't install a reader now so i just wanted to show the pdf version.
When i hold both phones the feeling is better on the One X. Even if its bigger it feels lighter and the screen that shows no gap between glas and screen looks bigger. The X is about 2mm wider with i just don't feel or see. It's about 1cm longer which is positivly noticeable. It's up to 2mm thinner which i notice immensely. The X has not the metal felling which i realy loved but i think i will get used to it because polycarbonate is a much higher quality.

I love my HD2 and its build quality, but I tend to hold it long time with just 2 fingers for bed reading and I find the metal feeling and it's weight a little bit unconfortable, so I really hold high expectations for One X in this regard.
P.S.: THANKS for measuring HD2 and One X. I really appreciated.

I am not so heavy user of internal storage so the microSD shouldn't be an issue for me but mostly likely I gotta buy a portable charger
Thanks a lot man for the great review. I guess that there are a lot of people migrating from the HD2 to the one X .. and this proves that they are both great devices .. but i honestly am gonna miss my HD2 , it is one of the best phones that HTC manufactured.
Thanks for the review lokiderelb, I was a happy HD2 owner for a couple of years myself but I did have a couple of newer HTC phones in between. The HD2 was ahead of its time and I feel the same way about the One X, I can't see another phone beating it out for best mobile phone on the planet any time soon

I will only do it if besides One X I also get GNote/Titan. But I'll probably keep my HD2. It's just to great to sell.
I am like you moving from HD2 to One X. I am expecting my device after Easter. I don't use SD card much and I think lack of SD expansion slot not going to make much difference for me.
I hope we will have some instructions/videos to replace the internal battery before we go to that stage of every 6 hours charging.
I will keep my HD2. Also its a little broken cause of the not funktional usb port and the little dirt behind the screen, which comes from a not so lucky try to repair it by myselfe. I have 3 Batterys for the HD2 and i think i can take it for trekking tours. Its resistable and it s awsome for navigation and my new One X will be happy to stay at home when im going trought the dirt.
With all the bad press, reviews an bug reports on here latley i rekon it has put a lot of people off getting this awesome peice of kit so just to clear the air when all is said and done would you still get the One X again i would for sure

It's not always that simple. There are three types of issues:
1) S/W which is correctable over time. HTC's future rests on the success of the One line so I have confidence the X will be updated as frequently as necessary. A lot of the issues reported seem (to me) to be s/w related.
2) H/W issues which fall in to two categories. The first being random production defects which don’t affect every device equally. The second category is consistent failings that affect every device (like the black One S's coating chipping off). The majority of h/w issues I've seen posted seem to fall in to the first category.
3) Design flaws. The Sensation antenna-gate issue is an example of this. So far the One X doesn't seem to have any of these.
Even with all that's been posted I ordered one that's due to arrive tomorrow. If it performs well, it stays. If it's flaky (beyond what's reasonable for a new device), it goes back.
Everyone's expectations are different and both the happy and unhappy need to be respected.
I like the phone and it will not be going back. There isn't a single phone on the market in my opinion that matches it when it comes to its combination of looks and specifications and shear wow factor. Its taken me almost 8 months to pick a phone that met all of my requirements after coming from the original Desire.
I am not a hard core phone gamer (But i can be if i want to be now), I am not someone that needs endless memory cards for tonnes of music and video (I have a PC for this, transfer rates are super fast, so it really isn't a hard ship, plus there is dropbox), I do not need a replaceable battery as I have a technet 7000mah portable which is great, its also just as portable as a spare battery anyway (Not that I have had any cause to use it yet).
I also have the white version, so shouldn't have any paint issues.
Yes it has Sense 4.0 which tends to hang every now and then, yes the video camera isn't as good as it will be, all of which are software, and WILL be fixed. Yes it has a rattle when you shake it like an idiot next to your ear, but I will never need to do that unless there is a Maraca app!
Its a mass produced product, as is the case with EVERYTHING mass produced there are batches that have faults and experience issues. Look at the mighty Apple I-Phone! Slight rant over

My reason for post is that theres a lit of people went down the one S route due to all the posts here. Of course there is reason to complain just wanted people to no that im sure there are others like me happy knowing that the fixes will come an the device is great

The difference in price between the S and X isn't that far apart. I think I would get a sense of buyers remorse 6 months down the line if I went for the S.

but on a serious note i love my phone and i would recommend it to people no matter what. i know i had a few problems with my phones but it is due to me being picky..but overall it is a beautiful phone to have and would recommend it to many more people..and i exchanging my white version for the grey...saw my mates one and it looks more damn sexier than the white

I was going to order white, then I changed my order for grey. Then I was having second thoughts so I went to look at them both in a shop before my order arrived. So glad I went for grey now

Good thread. I was surprised to find so many negative comments about the One X on here. It's cutting edge, possibly even bleeding... I bought mine in the knowledge that there may be some teething problems, but I'm more likely to still have something "current" in 18 months as the 2 year contract nears it's end. There are't many phone's that is true of.

I came to the One X from a Desire. This is my 3rd HTC mobile and I've loved all of them. I have really enjoyed having the Desire and it's been superb for build quality, reliability and always looked great. Having dozens of lovely roms to play with once it was rooted made all the difference after I became bored with Sense.
So, it was a no brainer for me to choose the One X. Quad core, Tegra 3, that lovely huge, curved screen and ICS were too good to pass up. The phone is stunning and I was most surprised at the looks when I put it beside my Desire. There really is no comparison at all.
It's incredibly fast. I've never used a phone so quick before. The new minimalist Sense is a joy to use and ICS is a great improvement for Android. The screen feels like silk to touch and hasn't attracted much in the way of fingerprints at all. It's lovely to use, very responsive, accurate and image quality is mind blowingly good. Although I don't have the official headphones, Beats Audio does sound fab through a pair of Sennheisers. It ramps up the bass, which is the weakest part of the closed back headphones I have. And so on and on. This mobile is amazing in many ways.
That's the pro's. The con's are:
1. Screen and case don't match up properly. There's a minute gap between the screen and the case along the top and down the left side of mine. This is not normal and classed as a fault by HTC (I asked them). After only 1wk, there's a tiny white strand of cloth under my screen. It can't be seen until the screen is black and it's in the corner. But, as I said to T-Mobile and HTC on the phone today; if it's collected something under the screen after 1wk, what is it going to look like after a few months? HTC said it's a definite fault and should be returned for a replacement. I will be doing so next week.
2. Gripes with the Tegra 3 performance. I know others have seen this on a few games, but for my Desire to easily outperform this phone when playing Stair Dismount is a real disappointment. Secret Exit Ltd answered my request for help earlier very quickly, so I'm really chuffed that a dev is prepared to at least try. I'm not sure whether this is something to do with the game or the phone, so will wait and see. Still a pain though. Interestingly, Stair Dismount also plays very well on my ASUS Transformer, which has Tegra 2.
3. Slight worry about the power button. As the Desire had other hardware buttons, I could assign one of those to wake the phone to take the strain off the power button being used so much. Not possible with this phone. I'm hoping it will be ok.
4. The camera lens cover. If it were Gorilla glass, I'd be happy. If it were recessed enough to not be threatened with being scratched every time I put down my phone, it wouldn't be a problem. So, it begs the question: why the hell did they make the lens cover out of simple glass and the rest of the case out of materials seemingly unbreakable in normal use? Very bad design decision.
5. Lack of external memory could become an issue. Yes, 32Gb is pretty huge. But, so are many of the new games, with 200Mb becoming more common. Not to mention the capability of the phone to play HD content. I also rip music for mobile playing as flac or at least 320k mp3. This makes an album anything up to 800+Mb in size. The internal memory won't take much to fill. None of these are really that big a deal for me, so I'm just being picky with this one!
I've heard various mentions of the battery life being poor on the One X. Considering what this phone does, I'm reasonably happy with having comparable performance as I had with the HTC Desire. Generally, with moderate-heavy use, I'm beginning to think about charging late evening after taking it off charge when I get up in the morning. That's fine by me. I carry a Veho Pebble in my car, so can always put the mobile on charge when I'm out anyway.

I think you have it spot on. Luckily I have no issues with my screen and no dust collected anywhere. Using a pouch to keep it nice and safe and it survived a small drop. I don't understand the decision not to make lens from gorilla glass unless its something to do with picture quality. Ordered a flip case as a good work around. I am just debating if I should sell desire or keep as a backup phone

Search for HTC One X Antenna Reception Test at Youtube. I have tried it myself and indeed the signal did dropped. Does that count as design flaw?

Seriously? A 10% dBm drop is, in your mind, a "design flaw?" If you're looking for something to be concerned about the YouTube poster's best performance at 89 dBm is pretty atrocious. Two floors away from my router I get better results on my SGS2. The weaker the signal the more any device will be impacted by obstructions (like bone). You'll see drops and gains like that simply by changing the phone's orientation to the router. As devices get thinner with more and more stuffed in to them antenna placement gets more complicated to avoid interference. That video doesn't concern me a bit (unless 89 dBm is typical Wi-Fi performance).
Had mine for 8 days now, it has no rattle that i've noticed, the screen glitches occasinally in browser, it sense restarts fairly often, battery life imo is decent my stats are typical of others. I had a single occasion where died/crashed, no power button or at least not the usual one press so held it and a small dialogue came up after a while saying 'hold for 2 more seconds to restart' which i did and the fone restarted fine, oh and i've had a single overheat whilst streaming a movie.
I had an early release hero which had some serious bugs which improved dramatically and an early desire s which i found pretty much ironed out from the start.
I'm very happy with my one x overall as any issues it has are teething problems which can be sorted.

Hey folks, I may be swapping my HTC Amaze 4G for a Galaxy Nexus soon, but before I do, I'd like to know the general opinions of the downsides to owning a Galaxy Nexus! I've read about a lot of the weaknesses of the Galaxy Nexus, but until I actually own one, it's pretty hard for me to pinpoint the legitimacy of these points that I see in video reviews and whatnot, so I'd like to ask you guys regarding your first hand experiences with the device. List your complaints about the Galaxy Nexus here, any contribution is appreciated!
What I've come up with so far:
- lack of microSD card
- camera is decent but not as good as it could've been
- although the screen is gorgeous, the pentile display doesn't allow it to be as clear and crisp as it should be
- build quality of the phone leaves much to be desired
I plan on rooting and installing custom ROMs as soon as I bring the device home, so please put that into consideration as well

this one had me worried too when i first got the nexus but its not that bad you just have to keep and eye on the storage.

its still pretty good and plenty good enough for casual pics. This is a phone we;re talking about, any $200 camera will take better pics than most phones maybe with the exception of the nokia 808 but that thing is more camera than phone.

best screen ive used, imo its the best screen on a phone until the gs3 comes out with its rgb 720p super amoled plus screen. There are better screens that are 720p rgb but they are LCD not amoled, depends what you like better both have their advantages.

My major complaint with build quality are the screen inconsistencies. check out this thread for more info. otherwise the phone is solid, i really like the curved design it feels more natural against your face or in your pocket.
if you are getting a straight trade for the amaze than you are getting the better part of the deal.
There is absolutely nothing I can complain about, as I come from a Nexus One. I'm not even entitled to complain.
- pentile... i can see the pixels very easily on my gnex compared to an iphone4... i still prefer AMOLED though
- frontlit CMOS camera
- no cheap pogo-pin charger
everything else about this phone is pretty much perfect
The screen is totally clear as pentile isn't so noticeable at such a high resolution. Not sure where you heard that.
And the build quality is actually superb, super solid and no creaking at all. Its very impressive.

Not an issue, I like the back-plate, curved design and weight off the phone is spread out so it feels optimum light
I was using AKOP and now stock 4.0.4, I sometimes experience data drops, all of a sudden bars turn gray, I just reboot the phone. I'm sure it'll be fixed at some point.
Overall fantastic phone.
My biggest gripe is that I can't think of a gripe. I like being pensive, angry, bitter, despondent, even aggressively violent, but this phone has turned me into a lovable cute like a puppy type cuddle bug.

This deserves a thank you.
Biggest gripe? Not being able to make a reliable phone call with this device. My device suffers from what's known as the "audio reboot" or "one-way audio" issue. Not every device has this issue so if you buy Nexus, it's a crap shoot. Or, if you enjoy installing custom ROMs you may also not suffer from this issue. And finally, while I haven't found 100% definitive proof of this, it seems that it's only the Verizon/CDMA version that suffers from this... I don't think anyone with the AT&T/GSM version has this problem.
The next update, which was scheduled for "sometime in March" then "early April" - both which came and went and still no update - is supposed to fix this issue. If it does not, I'm going with another device. I need my phone to function as a phone and right now, it does not do that on a reliable basis.
Honestly, other than that one (but very important) issue, the device is flawless.
No SD card is my only gripe but I knew that going in. So I can't complain all that much. Just gotta manage data more often and can't keep backups on phone as aggressively.

And often times the YouTube widget will not load. I'm using ADW Launcher EX, don't know if that has anything to do with it but it happens. I have screen burn in too. Where the navigation bar is and the virtual buttons on the bottom of the phone. Whenever I watch a full screen video or movie it's noticeable, and it's hard to ignore once you notice it. I wish they would have put in a better GPU and not one that is 2 years old too because the longer I use the phone the more it lags don't know if it's the ram or GPU but it lags from time to time. And the reason Google hasn't fixed whatever needs to be fixed so it can be as smooth as Crapples IOs is beyond me. But it's better than the Nexus One. So I'm good until the Quad Core Nexus is released.

I only wish that there was universal mass storage or sd card support so the thing would work with my car stereo. Going from stereo integration to aux cable was kind of a buzz kill.
And the camera is ok but I wish it were better too.
The phone is so slick you'll likely drop it and the screen may break. Better get a protective case for it. My Diztronic Rev3 case was inexpensive and adds needed grip. Great phone, otherwise IMHO.
I too came from an Amaze 4g...and man do I miss the camera. I was running bulletproof...but still doesn't come close to how smooth the Gnexus is. If you were looking to upgrade, id say go for it...but if your coming from a sense device, you might wanna check out the HTC one s or X.

I'm sure I'll miss the camera too, but it's a tradeoff I'm willing to make for an overall better phone, plus I never really liked Sense anyway since it has way too much overhead on the OS

what i hate is the sound whenever i set it on a table or something...it rattles (i know its the autofocus on the camera...its waaaaaay to loose on this phone)
Figured we probably needed a place to put everyone's first impressions.
I'll start with first, this thing is small and light! Coming from a V20 and a Nexus 6 before that, this thing is tiny. Last time I felt like I had a phone this size was the Galaxy Nexus. (Yeah, I know. That one was probably actually smaller than this but still, this thing feels that small in hand to me. I've been using nothing but phablets since that phone.) It feels closer in size to my work iPhone 6s than my V20. That's going to take some getting used to. It's in a case now but still feels small.
Still trying to get used to some app behaviors that seemed to have changed. For instance, Weather Channel app is having all kinds of issues. Shows as a sensitive notification on the lock screen vs my V20 where it isn't, because it isn't. The widget doesn't display information without being cut off. I still need to go log into all my apps and get them set up.
Camera. Haven't really taken any shots with it yet but I did dig through it. First, I'm not happy that it always opens in auto mode. The V20 would open in whatever mode you last had it in. I prefer manual mode and liked that I could just open it, make a quick adjustment to the settings and shoot. Now I have to dive into a menu to get to manual then make adjustments and shoot. It'll slow things down quite a bit. I am happy that Graphy can be shut off. Also, noise reduction can be shut off in manual. It was actually disabled by default. Going to do a lot of test shooting today.
Hoping to hit up the museum I used to work in and always test every camera I own there. Also hitting up an outdoor night event here as well as the jazz club. It's going to get one helluva workout today! Going to take my V20 and Nikon V3 along too. Not sure how much I'll use the V3 outside of the outdoor event. Not going to bother taking my DSLR. (I'm actually in the process of downsizing my photography to smaller cameras. DSLRs have gotten way too clean and clinical for my tastes.)

I played with this at Verizon yesterday, and I'm still on the fence. The front facing camera was HORRIBLE. I held my G5 next to it and took a selfie, and the G5 was so much better. The rear camera did seem to take awesome shots, but still slow to take and delay in swiping between front and back cameras, something I really thought they'd have a better handle on by now since I had the same issues in the G4 and G5. I loved it otherwise, I think it's a gorgeous phone, I like the looks a lot more than the Galaxy phones.
I went in wanting the phone, but two separate Verizon reps were adamant in saying I should stay away from LG, that they have nothing but problems, they only sold maybe 2 G6's, they have class action lawsuits against them, and they tell customers to go take a hike when asking for a new phone after having multiple of them die in a row from a known defect. Theyd rather keep sending you defective phones repeatedly under warranty. So idk. I'm reeeally torn between this and the S8+ which has very similar specs and is cheaper at this point, but I don't like having only one rear camera.
Initial results at the museum are looking pretty good. I'm impressed so far for the most part. As for selfie camera issues, I was disappointed at first until I figured out those stupid settings at the bottom of the screen. After you turn off the skin toning and lightning, the images are much better. Then they work well with post processing.
Have you had a chance to play w Bluetooth, GPS, Wifi/Data connection? My G4 had bad bluetooth disconnections and busted gps in the G5. Just curious how the different antennae have been working for you. Good battery life?

Haven't played with GPS yet. I can't really speak to how well or not how well it works. I used wifi during set-up. It worked but my wifi is slower than my network connection and I regretted using it. Not a knock on the wifi of this phone, it's just that my carrier network is that much faster than my home wifi. Only BT I've done so far is to connect it to my car. That went much better and smoother than my V20. It took me many attempts over an hour and a half to get my V20 and car paired. The V30 paired the first time. The next test will be to see if I have to restart my phone after a few days to keep the connection from going wonky. (Which is a ritual with my V20 that occurred at least once a week.)
I got mine this past Friday. It is slippery to hold, you will def need a case to keep it from sliding out of your hand. I'm still not sure why designers can make insanely powerful devices but can't figure out that you actually need to hold on to it to use it. I'll probably get a DBrand skin or equiv when they are available. It is super light. Kinda feels flimsy it is so lightweight even though it is not. My last phone was a Nexus 6P, before that an HTC M9, before that an HTC M7. All three of those feel like tanks by comparison. I'm not sure yet if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
Camera is nice but uses a lot of noise reduction. It has endless options that will take some time getting used to. I'm not sure yet if it is as good as HTC's U11 which as an incredible camera IMO (my GF has a U11). Looks better than my Nexus 6p for sure though. Much faster too. I love the wide angle lens!
Audio from Headphone jack is insane. I'm using the BEATS headphones from my old HTC One, I can only imagine how good it would sound with high end headphones. Phone speaker is ehhh. Nowheres near as good as HTC or Google phones with front facing speakers. Or HTC U11 which seems to have crazy sound magically radiate into space.
As for speed, its as fast as any other 2017 phone I have tried, the hardware is all the same. The screen is amazing. I mean AMAZING! I can't really see a difference between 1080 and 1440 quality or speed wise. I thought at first there was but now think it is more of a placebo effect. I have been keeping it maxed mostly for the bragging rights of it being higher rez than Apple's silly Superduper mega retina display, what ever that means.
It is to early for me to tell if battery life makes a difference with resolution. I have read it is supposed to eat more power with the higher rez. It isn't as near bezelless as I thought it would be. It seems to be a marketing trend for company renders to show super edge to edge displays until you actually get it and there are good sized bezels. Not that I mind, it is just something I noticed. The screens are not any larger, the phone is just shrinking around it making the device seem small and the screen seem smaller than it is. My Nexus 6p dwarfs the V30 in the hand and the display just feels larger on the Nexus even though it is not. Kind of another odd placebo effect.
Speaking of battery, it seems to last well over a day of playing hard with it but is still to early to tell since I keep plugging it in to transfer files. After the newness wears off I think I will be able to get 2 days out of it.
The power button, or lack there of is great I think. Instead of a dedicated button, it is just the fingerprint scanner. You can click it, hold it to open restart options etc. Works great and is non intrusive by comparison to a dedicated button that I usually hit by accident all the time.
The UI is not terrible. It is fast and responsive. For the record I am a fanboy of Sense and Stock. LG's UI has a lot more options for customization over Stock but some things seem like they just changed from stock to say they did. Especially in the Settings menu where they feel extra pages of settings tabs is preferable than a simple list. The worst part is LG's apps that are mostly broken or limited.
Contacts doesn't work right and crashes sometimes when I try and edit a contact. You can not fully disable it. I'm using Google Contacts when it will let me.
Calendar is ok, about the same as Google Calendar. Again you can not fully disable it for some reason.
Camera app is good so far, or at least I like it.
Messaging app sux. It freezes sometimes and when it works you can't insert gifs. Again you can't disable it. I'm using Google's Messenger.
Keyboard is limited, I just use the Google Keyboard.
Gallery is simple and works for on device pix but doesn't allow cloud access. Since most of my pix are on GoogleDrive I just use Google Photos. And again you can't disable it.
Smart Cleaning is a cleaner app. The phone is so fast I can't see any difference after using it.
LG Health I haven't tried yet.
LG Smart World is just some LG app browsing thing. Haven't really played with it other than browsing themes.
So far I love the phone. Out of 2017 phones I have used the HTC U11 and Essential Phone I like the V30 best of those 3. My biggest complaint is I just wish you could at least disable the LG bloatware apps so they can't start up. Maybe there is a special way to do it aside from rooting the device and going that route.

I'll start with first, this thing is small and light! Coming from a V20 and a Nexus 6 before that, this thing is tiny. Last time I felt like I had a phone this size was the Galaxy Nexus. (Yeah, I know. That one was probably actually smaller than this but still, this thing feels that small in hand to me. I've been using nothing but phablets since that phone.) It feels closer in size to my work iPhone 6s than my V20. That's going to take some getting used to. It's in a case now but still feels small.
Still trying to get used to some app behaviors that seemed to have changed. For instance, Weather Channel app is having all kinds of issues. Shows as a sensitive notification on the lock screen vs my V20 where it isn't, because it isn't. The widget doesn't display information without being cut off. I still need to go log into all my apps and get them set up.
Camera. Haven't really taken any shots with it yet but I did dig through it. First, I'm not happy that it always opens in auto mode. The V20 would open in whatever mode you last had it in. I prefer manual mode and liked that I could just open it, make a quick adjustment to the settings and shoot. Now I have to dive into a menu to get to manual then make adjustments and shoot. It'll slow things down quite a bit. I am happy that Graphy can be shut off. Also, noise reduction can be shut off in manual. It was actually disabled by default. Going to do a lot of test shooting today.
Hoping to hit up the museum I used to work in and always test every camera I own there. Also hitting up an outdoor night event here as well as the jazz club. It's going to get one helluva workout today! Going to take my V20 and Nikon V3 along too. Not sure how much I'll use the V3 outside of the outdoor event. Not going to bother taking my DSLR. (I'm actually in the process of downsizing my photography to smaller cameras. DSLRs have gotten way too clean and clinical for my tastes.)

Yep. This method works on G6, so it should work on V30 also, be careful on what you disable, you could potentially brick the device.
BTW any display problems? And what variant did you buy?
Thanks! As for the variant, I have the AT&T 64gig one. There are a few AT&T apps, all can be disabled. I actually use a few of them. And no display problems that I have seen. I think the display is one of the best parts of the device.

Awesome overview :good: Although I already ordered v30 (black, 64gb) from South Korea, it was still nice to read, especially regarding the screen/size. I am not a fan of 18:9 in general since native support is still behind (cropped,zoomed videos), but I like what LG does - basically putting 18:9 screen in a more like 16:9 frame.. this makes it look much better than sausage-style s8/s8+/note8.

Interesting review. Where did you get your B&O branded V30+ in UK? I thought they only had the V30? Did you get it from Italy or elsewhere?
I watched your full YouTube review and I agree people are selling the camera on this phone short. Interesting that all your friends chose the LG V30+ pictures over the Pixel 2 XL pictures. That's one reason I'm not really going to mess with the Pixel camera port.

Thanks. You’re right. UK only gets standard V30. Wondamobile supplied the V30+. The Pixel 2 will take better pics , but like everything it depends on the scene. I was out this morning with my Canon & V30+ and will get a post up next week with the results.

I'm on my second Sprint lg v30 plus. Had to exchange the first one due to digitizer issues. On one side of the screen. It only responded to taps. My luck I guess.. Overall I like the device. It's light, fast and has a nice design. The camera sucks tho compared to my s8+ especially in low light. Not a bad camera but no where near the pixel 2 or Samsung phones. Was going to get the note 8 but I doubt that will ever get twrp. Hopefully this device gets root and twrp
