[Q] Cheapest place to get Galaxy Nexus for someone in US? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

For someone in the United States trying to get the HSPA version of the Galaxy Nexus, where would be it be the cheapest to buy from (after tax, shipping, VAT, etc)?
I've been trying to get my hands on the GNexus, but paying 750+ USD just doesn't seem worth it (even if it won't come out in the US for a month or two if at all). Can we compile a list to compare the prices of all the retailers (online preferably) that are selling the phone?

That's still a bit pricey... about one hundred more than what I am willing to pay (I got both the Nexus One and Nexus S for <$600). Is that the cheapest price anywhere?
Does it come with a warranty or insurance?

This costs more than the Nexus One or Nexus S. You won't find it for cheaper for a while.

Unless they start selling them in the US directly at retailers, you won't find one for under $600 any time soon. Right now Handtec is the cheapest at just under $700 as others have said. When calculating your price keep in mind that some credit card companies charge a foreign transaction fee of around 2%-3%.

That's it! I'm sleeping under a rock! Someone wake me up when the Galaxy Nexus is under $600! I have nothing else to live for! :'(

ok, got it... £450 is a pretty reasonable price to me, since i'm gonna be in the usa next week i'm thinking to buy it, so i'm wondering if i'll need to pay any import duty...

Youre also paying the premium of it being imported and the satisfaction of having it early. Its not a high rollers club thing. Its just reality at the moment. The more my atrix rebooted the more i want to throw this phone out the window even though its a nice and capable phone. My nexus hopefully will be here by friday. Oh yes it will be mine.
Sent from my samsung gt i9250 which is in the wrong country.

They come out in Canada on the 8th so there should be more of them out there so the price should (theoretically) go down

No. Probably still looking at $700usd with all the fees, shipping and taxes. Some of us thought about that but the savings are marginal.

Here is how to get the Samsung Galaxy Nexus for up to as little as $465 in the US:
1. Sign-up for MrRebates.com to get 2% cash back from Expansys-USA.
2. The phone on Expansys USA is $750, but you can use the discount code 20OFFLS to knock the price to $730. (It has to be a US seller in order for you to be able to use step 3.)
2. Since you use MrRebates.com, you get 2% cash back, which brings the effetive price down $715.
3. You can use the Price Protection feature of your credit card to get price drops of up to $250 reimbursed, but only if the transaction was in US Dollars. So if, within 60 days, you see the phone advertised in the US for less than $730, the credit card will give you the difference.
4. This might reduce your total damage to $465.
We may not see a full $250, but I venture to say that a $100 price drop is virtually guaranteed.
Other have mentioned to use BigCrumbs.com instead for 4% cash-back. Their reviews are not quite as good as those of MrRebates.com though.

Interesting about the price protection... i never knew that. I did some quick googles on it, and it seems most credit cards don't have it anymore, or the restrictions make it useless.

Your "total damage" will only be as low as the cheaper one you could get in the US. And since the phone will never be sold for $465 unlocked in the US, you'll never get a full $250 back. Like you said, a more reasonable price we'll see for the US unlocked version is about $600.

For example this one: http://www.capitalone.com/cash.

ebates.com has 6% cash back from expansys-usa again today so i ordered mine for $750 - $20 coupon - 6% ebates cash back - 1% credit card cash back = $678.9 in the end (hopefully). oh and if you're a new ebates.com user you get a $5 cash back bonus.

Thanks for all of the tips everyone. I think I may pull the trigger today and get the Galaxy Nexus from Expansys.

US Buyers.. Which retailer did you buy from?

I'm just curious as to where you might have bought it from. Expansys? Handtec? Clove? I've heard stories where people have to pay a big amount of money after it gets into the country, like customs fees and things like that. Expansys is $749 but it almost seems like the best bet since they ship from the US. Any suggestions US buyers?
Negri: https://negrielectronics.com/samsung-i9250-google-galaxy-nexus-black-unlocked.html
plus theres a $35 off coupon you can find online. they have free ground, but all their other shipping are more expensive than expansys.
I bought mine from Expansys. There was some ups and downs in the begining, but in the end they were great! Their US GM (Cory L) is active in the Expansys thread now, helping people with problems, and letting us know what is going on with shipments, ect. Can't ask for much more. There was a $20 coupon floating around, not sure if it's still active.
I picked them cause they have a US branch here, in case I ever have to deal with the warranty.
Earlier today someone found out that Newegg has them in stock - or so it says. Have no clue if they are imported or not (UK ones have 2 year warranties). It lists the manufacturer site as www.samsung.com and not the UK location so

Just pulled the trigger on it from Handtec. $704 CAD shipped. Seems to be the cheapest option out of the bunch.
Handtec. It was slightly cheaper when I bought mine though, I still think it's the cheapest option.

Yeah, I thinking handtec as well. Any hidden fees once it enters the US? And realistically, how are their shipping times?

No hidden fees other than certain credit card companies charge a foreign transaction fee, in the 2%-3% range people have reported.
i'm waiting for the 4G-LTE model which supposedly now is going to be Dec. 9th and will be picking it up at Best Buy Mobile.

heh.. i was on T-Mob for the longest time but after seeing the LTE speeds in action & jumped on while they still had unlimited data it's the best mobile broadband ever. i can download a 1GB file in about 5 minutes.
on the downside though, i'm paying roughly $20 more then i was on T-Mob and have less minutes. if AT&T or T-Mob were anywhere near as fast as Verizon(in my area they are very slow compared to Verizon) & had unlimited data also i'd consider switching.

I would go with Expansys also for the same reasons as the others. already in the US & easier to deal with warrenty wise.
I'd go with negrielectronics.com tbh. While they may be more than anyone else, sadly enough they were the only one's from London to the US to never BS me about stock, and they handled my order in a professional manner. The same cannot be said for others that have been mentioned in this very thread.
The Android figurine they send out is a nice touch too.
As I wrote in the other thread, I too went with Negri last night. An hour and a half after placing the order I got an e-mail saying it shipped along with the tracking number. Pretty damn nice if you ask me.

Is it still the cheapest to buy GNex from Clove.uk now?

I am in US so shipping from there is <$700 now,
is it still the cheapest now?
Will it be cheaper after 12/9 that the canadian version had come out?
Who knows if you'll have to pay customs fees... I paid the extra $50 ($764) to go with a US reseller but they're being sketchy at the moment... See my post (Negri Electronics is being sketchy).
I'd say go US but maybe not Negri.. I'm sure everything is fine but still... You could pay more than you think with credit card international fees and customs fees depending on the shipping company they use.
EDIT -- I JUST GOT MY SHIPMENT NOTIFICATION!! WHOOOOO

International pricing is pretty firm. The UK prices aren't going to be effected by whatever happens in the rest of the world. A lot of folks in the UK and EU buy their phones outright so demand is what drives pricing. The SGS2 stayed pretty firm for about four months and then started to drop a bit. It's still over $500 having been out since May. If you're importing, don't look for bargains and sales because they don't exist (through legitimate resellers). I've bought from both Clove and Handtec and was pleased with both.
Found this: http://welectronics.com/gsm/Samsung/SAMSUNG_NEXUS-PRIME-TITANIUM-SILVER.HTML These guys are located in Chicago and selling for $724.99. Supposedly these prices are wholesale to the public. Anyone ever dealt with this retailer before?
how much is it gonna be in Canadian GSM version?
I imported from clove.uk to the US and they were great service. Shipped on a Wednesday, got here that Friday.
Though I must say, it shipped with DHL and the packaging was kinda sketchy for a $700 dollar electronic device. It was in a plastic DHL bag and the box the phone came in was just wrapped in fine-bubble bubble wrap. No damage and it works fine, but still kinda irked me when I saw it.

I ordered two GNs from clove which arrived today. No import duties. I have a thread in this forum showing the current policy regarding importing cellphones to the US (with documentation from the corresponding government agencies).
As for the packaging, I too am a little disappointed that they only used bubble wrap and a dhl bag. The corners of the boxes where slightly damaged; however, the phone itself was fine.
I preordered mine from Handtec and the experience was awesome. I ended up paying around $700 total and somehow the phone got to me within one day!!! It was awesome to see that tracking from Fedex on the day it was shipped telling me it would be at my doorstep by the very next day before 10:30am... now that's fast, especially coming from Europe!

Popular Electronics, which is right next door to Overseas Electronics has it for $699 in store - cash only. I plan to go there this week and buy myself one. $700 is the cheapest I've seen it go for. I've bought a phone and sold a phone from them before so they're legit.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/108564/IMG_4995.PNG
I decided to email Popular electronics about the Galaxy Nexus and it seems like they're willing to bargain about the tax. Chicago has ridiculous tax at 9.75% so the phone would have been $767.15. With a simple email, they were willing to do $710 flat. I'm sure when a little more persuasion, I could get them to $700 or throw in a free case. Just a heads up to all the Chicagoans. Probably pick this up this weekend.

Don't you find it kinda shady that they're cash only and are willing to negotiate to remove sales tax? lol. I'm sure its fine. Just sayin'.
That does seem odd that they have a cash only policy. Really weird for an electronics store. Maybe they have a no receipt policy too.
But back on topic, I just bought my nexus from clove last night. Order is processing and now it's just a waiting game!

When paying with cash, it's always considered under the table. They probably don't file their taxes legally so it helps them when people pay in cash. Good for both parties. They're a small electronics store, nothing huge but they do carry the latest phones.
Not sure about the receipt policy, probably isn't one but as long as it's brand new, I'll be happy.

You forget about the third party. The government and all society that utilizes tax money. (Including yourself)
Taxes are there for a reason and should not be avoided by dodgy business practices.
I would check the phone out in-store to reduce your risk of having to return the device since you may not be able to.

Of course it will be checked.
Tell that to Apple, Google, Facebook, Microsoft, IBM, Oracle and so on. They all dodge taxes. What they're doing it is legal but it's effects you also. It always seems like when a little business does it, they should be shunned by their practice. The way they're doing it is probably illegal but it's still dodging taxes.
http://publicintelligence.info/google-3-billion-tax-loophole/
Don't assume that paying with cash is always considered under the table.
Another reason for the cash policy is that is removes the credit card processing fees for the transaction. Depending on their processor, it should be around $0.25 + 2% of the transaction amount. So on a $700 transaction, that is roughly $14.25.
(American Express' fees are around 3.5%, so the cost on that transaction is around $25).
If you are a retailer, that extra credit card fee hurts quite a bit. Think about that the next time you buy a pack of gum with your credit card.
http://truecostofcredit.com/378767
That being said, in this instance their's a good chance that this is under the table. I would much rather buy the phone on my Amex and get the additional warranty they provide. Also, why not just import it from clove for $670 rather than paying $700 cash? Makes no sense to me.

Futureshop wouldnt sell me the galaxy nexus

I'm REALLY upset right now
i went to futureshop like 3 weeks ago and asked if i could buy the galaxy nexus outright, they said yeah.
So i go today to buy it and they said they can't give it without me signing a contract.
i argue with them for a while saying i was told a few weeks ago i could, they said yeah it changed now.
so they're like you have to prepay 1 month, i'm like okay **** it ill just do it because i really need the phone.
After a while he says i still can't buy it!
WTF, im paying outright for it, PLUS paying the first month, he says sorry you still can't buy it because you have no credit history.
i just walked out, what else could i do.
i really wanted this phone and they wouldnt sell it to me
Like I mentioned yesterday,
Negri Electronics: https://negrielectronics.com/samsung-i9250-google-galaxy-nexus-black-unlocked.html
Expansys
Newegg
Best bet would be Negri as its the cheapest (find a coupon online if they're valid still). From what I'm told on forums, Negri will handle warranties (look it up on XDA as multiple users have mentioned this).
https://negrielectronics.com/policies
DEFECTIVE ITEMS: A defective item may be returned for repair within 25 days of date of purchase. If an repair is not possible we will offer a refurbished replacement. If this is not available you will be offered a store credit toward a future purchase. If you would prefer a refund (instead of a store credit), you may request a full refund, minus shipping charges. The exchange process typically takes 8-10 days to complete. Every (Non Carrier Branded) device comes with a 1 year warranty from the manufacturer. After 25 days our exchange/return policy has expired, you should contact the manufacturer for repair or for warranty replacement or exchange, if your device qualifies for this. Please contact the manufacturer to determine if the device you hold is covered under their warranty. If you would like to send your device to us to send to the manufacturer you are free to do so. Please request an RMA. This will delay the warranty process by 1-2 weeks and you will be charged shipping to and from the manufacturer. You will need the original invoice from us in order to have your item repaired or exchanged by the manufacturer. Warranty varies by manufacturer, but typically warranties are valid for 1 year from purchase. PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU MUST request an RMA in order to return any device.
(NEW) REPAIRS: If after 25 days your device is in need of repair you can fill out the RMA Form and request a "repair". Negri Electronics will send your device off to our 5 star repair center and have it assessed for charges prior to the repair. We will contact you with the charges and if agreed upon charge you and complete the repair. Normally there is no fee for the assessment. You only are requiredto pay our actual cost for the repair, plus shipping. Once the phone is repaired we will have this shipped back to you.

if ur willing to pay for the phone outright u can get it from futureshop from virgin mobile though you gotta get a 1 month plan

2) after u get ur phone, cancel ur plan IMMEDIATELY by calling virgin (u need to give them 30day heads up), theres no fees or anything + u get a 5$ discount by paying ur months bill
ah and u pay the remainder of your tab at the end of the month*

i went to futureshop like 3 weeks ago and asked if i could buy the galaxy nexus outright, they said yeah.

Most Verizon independent retailer do not sell phones out right. Mostly because it would be ripping the customer off.
Retailers buy their phones from Verizon at near retail value. So they buy a phone like the Nexus for $620 then sell the phone for $300 on the contract losing $320 on the phone. Verizon then pays a sizable commission on the line making your transaction profitable in the end for the retailer. Provided you pay your bill for the first 6 months.
Verizon has a limit on how many of each device the retailer can order within a time period. Because of this the retailer wants to make the most of the phones they get. In order to make the same profit selling a phone out right as they would if you signed a two year contract they would need to mark the phone up to nearly $1000. That is obviously ripping you off because you can get it cheaper somewhere else.
The sales person should have been clear up front and let you know they just don't sell phones out right.
Some of your big box stores that get a much higher allotment might not mind selling at near cost.
I am not sure if you are in the US or not but thought I would share that.

Negri or expansys. Or wait til February and see what's up with the 32GB version. The 16gb version might go down in price so this might be a good thing for you.

if 16gb is enough, it might, keyword might, be more economical to wait and let the 32 gb one come out. expansys told me the 32gb is probably going to be over $800 to ship to the usa. but then again, it might come out here in the usa at that time so it might be a little cheaper. but if you have the cash dude, and can't wait, get it imported. it's a damn good phone.

I'm not a "negri shrill" in any form or way. Just helping the OP get the Galaxy Nexus at the cheapest price available. It's simply a customer experience.
Why would I tell the OP to get it from Expansys or any other website if this one particular website offers it at a cheaper price? If you can find a price that is cheaper than what that store has to offer, then go ahead.

lol yeah, i really appreciate you helping me out man
thing is, i don't have a credit card either which is another reason im buying it locally
i could ask my parents but they'll freak out seeing how much i pay for a phone LMAO
but dude, it's like you keep mentioning negri, negri and more negri everywhere. cheaper is not always better. and i had a great experience with expansys. maybe he lives in nevada and doesn't want to pay sales tax. or illinois. all i'm saying is i see somebody mention another vendor and you're right there with negri.

OP lives in Canada, it says it on his profile. I don't understand why you have to start drama over the internet. Do you have something against their company? Both companies offer the same product, so why not grab the one that's going to save you a couple of dollars if both companies offer fast shipping?
I've had friends bought from Expansys as well, and I know they have great customer support as well. Both companies are great, but the $10-25 price difference can put a difference if a person wishes to make the purchase or not.
not starting drama. it just seems like you're there to promote negri every chance you get. seems weird ya know? both are fine. and if he's in canada illinois is closer.

HTC one x in Canada?

Hey guys, I really want to be able to get the international version of the One X (quad core) but I don't know where to get it or how much it will cost :/ or can I just not preorder it? That I'm okay with haha
You can order from expansys, it has worldwide delivery :
http://www.expansys.com/delivery/
or http://clove.co.uk
Others may find you better deals
Wow! From clove I could get it for under 700$?!?!
Which is more reliable on-time delivery ?
Could have medialink to be perfect.
It's a matter of tax, don't know how they work.
I had some when I tried to order on it but am in Europe so...
Edit :
about delivery time expansys claims 3-4 days, probably the same for clove
Hmm.. How would I be able to find the tax amount you think? During order process?
Yeah i did like I was going to buy one, didn't need registration to see that if I remember well. When you choose delivery location it should tell you the price of tax and shipping
When I go to place the order it seems like 675$

I am also from canada and i ordered from www.handtec.co.uk , anywhere you pre order outside of canada you will have to pay taxes and duty fee's to the delivery guy when it gets to your door, for the one x it will probably be around 80-100$ on top of what your gonna pay from the retailer. From past experience make sure they don't ship via UPS as they are horrible and charge handling fee's and stuff.

That 100 on top is a custom fee on Canada, or anywhere ?

Fedex also charges handling fees. I have ordered from handtec before, and fedex delivers it around 2 days. Really quick service.
Handec declares the amount you paid for the device. So if for example you paid $700 for the device, you will pay the fedex guy upon delivery 12% tax (for BC) plus their handling fee.

Shoot 12% is a lot on 700$... :/ why can't they just sell the One X in canada?!?!?! or in the states even.... do you think it'd be cheaper if i got some sort of contact in UK to send one to me??
Fedex aways charge fees.
I dont get that handling fees. Its exclusive in Canada ?
Its a country import rule ?
If I ship one to USA, I will pay either ?

TMO giving $500 trade in for Samsung 9 series

I had actually ordered yesterday direct from Samsung which was giving $350 trade in for the same phone plus $70 for accessories. I just checked my Tmo app and saw this new Promo so I cancelled the Samsung order and put the order in with TMO which is giving the trade in values for purchase of a variety of the new Samsung phones. They charged $88 for taxes and upgrade fee, then give me a $125 credit when the old phone is returned and $375 in monthly bill credits. The bottom line is that I make $37 up from TMO and then have to pay $15 a month for 24 months.
You may or may not be able to use Insider code type 3 from TMO. $200 rebate.

UPDATE: I MAY be getting the price match after all, but its not worth the drama.
A second person on chat told me they were 110% sure they were doing price matching, but you have to order first, then get the match. I went ahead and ordered and called yesterday to get the match, but they said they couldn't see it in their system yet, try later.
Called again today and was told I had to wait until the order was shipped to get the match. Spent about 20 min on the phone with them with nonsense.
After the call I decided to just cancel and buy from Amazon. Samsung's website then offered me 10% off to keep the order, so I said ok (credit applied after shipping). Theoretically I can still call when it ships and get the full price match.
Suggestions to avoid the drama:
1) buy from Samsung for $700, get 3% back from Rakuten, plus $70 instant credit on samsung.com, then cancel the order and accept the 10% rebate, OR
2) buy from Amazon for $600.

I'd rather buy from Samsung that's just me... I did the cancel thing after order on my fold 2 and got $100 back credited when they charged me for order once it shipped...if going that way you would usually get email telling you of the credit you will get at shipping... I would still chat them for the full $100 match... Don't know why they giving you such hard time... Ughhh sorry to hear it..
When I cancelled my order with Samsung it just cancelled and I was not offered any discount to continue with the purchase. Samsung was offering $350 trade in for the S9 plus $70 for accessories, which I generally find to be quite expensive at Samsung. So the $500 trade in from TMO gave me $80 more than I would have received from Samsung. Although I also like to buy direct from Samsung, I felt a little burned by them when they dropped the price of the Note 20 Ultra by $200 just three weeks after it was delivered.
When I ordered mine, Samsung told me I had to wait until it shipped. I traded in an iPhone 11 Pro, which took the phone down to $55.00 US. After it shipped I messaged them back, and they told me they couldn't refund more than I paid, so they gave me a $110.00 Samsung Credit code within about 2 hours.

SECOND UPDATE: I ended up getting both the 10% ($70) rebate for not cancelling AND the $100 price match, so yay me, I guess. So my final out the door price from Samsung was $530 USD (plus tax). That included the $70 credit at the Samsung store, which I used to buy a case and their little discount fitbit. I also got a 2% rebate from Rakuten and 1.5% from my credit card (Capitol One).
Traded in my OnePlus 6t for $500 trade in discount at T-mobile. Will pay about $9/mth for 2yrs
Once you realize that this device gets left out of their beta program, and their monthly updates. It doesn't looks as nice as it seems. October security patch was launched for all S20 devices, except the S20 FE. Beta program is the same, all S20 family devices except S20 FE. Not so appealing now.
