Looking for FAST and STABLE rom (Defy+) - Defy General

Currently I use MIUI (1.11.11), but it has a few bugs like WLAN is not reconnecting. The speed isn't that good, but MIUI looks better than most roms
I'm looking for a stable and fast ROM.
Perfect would be:
-Android 2.3 or higher
-NO big bugs
-720p recording enabled
-support for the bigger Defy+ battery
Any suggestions?

CM7 last stable?? Allredy stesting battery on it. No major bugs, stable and really fast, faster than MS2Gibger and stock 2.3.4. I had only one FC from yesterday when I installed it and it was Market when installed 62 apps at the same time.
Sent from Defy+ CM7 (7.1.0-11)

CM7 is fast and stable. But does it support HD video capture? I have installed MS2ginger2.1. Supports many languages. It is fast enough I think and supports HD video capture. Moreover, the battery life is amazing. There are some posts about it...

Looks like CM7 is gonna get installed. 720p is not that important (just nice to have).
Does it support the bigger battery or does it get stuck at 83%~ and won't charge anymore? MIUI (whis is based on CM) has this bug.

720p maybe gonna be supported in next CM7's and You need to patch battery support but didn't tried it yet. I'm using 1500 from old Defy cause I didn't format 1700 yet and still testing this build and it's still connected to pc.

Hey !
I'm also looking for a smooth & stable rom.
I don't need the last features.
Currently, I'm using CM-10-20131030-NIGHTLY. Which doesn't crash and so, but it's not smooth.
I didn't install any widget, and I got battery drains.
Any recommendation ?

Hi,
the OmniROM 4.4.2-20140202 is very smooth and stable.
Links are in the development thread.

Hi !
It's still under development it's it ? I'm a bit afraid of something that has not been tested and validated for a while.
I don't need the last version of Android. I just want something smooth and stable.

The last Android 4.4.2 (kitkat) is the fastest Android version for the Defy.
That's why I also recommend the OmniROM version and not the CM11 version. OmniROM runs with me stable and very fast for 1 month. If you want to take it try not the latest version take the 20140202 version.

Thanks for your suggestion.
As my phone (Nexus 5) will soon be back from repair, it didn't take the time to reinstall my phone.
But if I need to reinstall my defy, I will follow your advice.

CM7 not faster than CM11?
What about White Rabbit 1.7.1 or Maniac?

Been using this rom since yesterday, so far so good
UI seems a *little* bit laggy sometimes compared to the stock 2.3.6 GB rom, but so much more functionality in Omni.
What about battery life with Omni? Better than stock rom?

Highly recommend SlimKat, anny build you like. I'm running two defy+ on it, one on 3.85 build, other on latest 4,both very stable, didn't notice anny bug,no random reboots, no lag, memory & bat. friendly, amazing look... thanks to TJKV and all contributors on this GREAT ROM.:good: Just try it!

Im using slimkat too its really good except the camera doesnt work for me when i use it my phone reboots :/

I'm on SlimKat build 4.0 since release and it's a great rom. Battery life is reliable and it's fast and stable. The camera works fine (720p etc).
Theres only issue with reboot to recovery, which can be easly fixed by replacing one apk (click).
And sometimes battery percentage is stuck at 99-100% (click).
My settings: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52086816&postcount=19
There was a great 3.6 build which was almost bugfree for me (at least it didn't need any fixes).

so am i the only one with the camera problem on slimkat?

Have no issues with camera (did you set up Video Encoder to MPEG4?), just one or two reeboots in to recovery since i'm using SlimKat, but there is an easy fix like Stoku wrote. Yes, that little bug about battery percentage...
All in all - feel like my beloved Defy is reborn, fresh, fast, stable...feel like i have 3/4 of new phone:victory:
Again, thanks a lot to TJKV, thanks to all of you kind and good people for spending your time and sharing your knowledge with all of us! THANKS!:good:

After a while of using this (Omnirom), the only slightly annoying bug I encountered was that the camera would stop working (regardless using the stock camera app or another one), after having taken lots of photos.
A simple reboot and the camera would work again

So it's very like stock rom, my green lens defy always did that.
I'm now on CM11 and camera is (at least) as stable as stock, haven't had the camera stopped working..

Good to know.
I have a green lens too.
Now running the latest homemade Omnirom build (omni-4.4.2-20140518-mb526-HOMEMADE.zip) from Struq's google drive.
I shall see if the same bug occurs.

4.2.1 CyanogenMod 10.1 ROM

Hey everyone. Just wondering if anyone has had chance to install CyanogenMod 10.1 ROM and if it's good? I'd imagine it to be quite buggy at the moment due to the fact that it's only just been released. Quite keen to update to latest android 4.2.1 but don't want to update to a buggy ROM.

I just flashed this rom to test it out. Lots of graphical bugs(especially when using the camera) and all of the S-pen features DO NOT WORK. And i also have noticed that my power off button whenever i click it , it does not turn off the screen to go in lockscreen. Other then that..man i was so happy to see AOSP i love it so damn much but..this is just not for me i wish these bugs were fixed and then AOSP is on!!! Thanks for the link though.
No worries for the link . I was surprised no one had been talking about it on here before when in posted it. Cyanogen seems that be the most popular ROM because it's Google stock and optimised. currently using ParanoidAndroid which is great. I highly recommend. Hopefully they'll release a 4.2.1 version of that soon!!

Are there graphical like bugs on PA , I think the S-Pen features dont work on that too but you can get some apps to have like features and can i have the link to the version you are currently using please, Also hows the battery life on it ? Thanks!

No graphical bugs in PA at all (as far as I am aware). I'm really pleased with it. I'd recommend it to anyone. Tablet apps on this phone also work beautifully well. Like YouTube for instance.
Battery life is SLIGHTLY (we're talking marginal) decreased from Samsung ROM. However, to give you an example of how good the battery life still is - I go to work and use my phone throughout the day for Spotify. It's always connected to wifi at work as I have hardly any signal. I am also always connected to GPS so i can get the most out of things like google now etc. I unplug at 8:30 and get home for about 6:30 every night. My battery when I get home is usually 60%. So I can't complain. When I had my iPhone I used to have to stay constantly tethered!!

[Q] What roms are good daily drivers?

Hi There,
I noticed we are not supposed to ask questions about "the best ultimate mega rom", or anything similar. I hope this thread, however, is different enough to not violate those rules..
What ROM would you suggest as a good daily driver? I do not need the fastest rom, or the newest android version. I just need to flash something on my Arc so my sister can use the phone for few months without a need for any troubleshooting from my side.. She wants working texting and calling, snapchat, facebook, whatsapp, wifi, camera, music player. She doesn't care about bluetooth, or video recording, or radio. Here are my findings so far:
Official gingerbread is too old.
Official ICS is too slow, even after cleanup (removal of some unnecessary official apps).
I tried some LegacyXperia-based roms, and they were amazing EXCEPT battery life was 4-5 hours even if the phone was not in use.
What would you suggest? Perhaps an older build of Cyanogen Mod? If yes, which one? Any ROM that is reasonably fast and stable would be OK, as long as it is ICS or newer.
Thank you!
Legacy Xperia ROMs are good, you just need to tweak the ROM such that it doesn't use up a lot of battery

You're right.
As I don't care about latest android (well I do, but my sister doesn't), I have used LegacyXperia cm10.2 release version: cm-10.2-20140303-RELEASE-LegacyXperia-anzu
She is running it only for a day, but so far it seems remarkably stable and battery life seems good enough to last a day. I will report back here if anything changes, but so far so good!

CM10.1 is stabler & more battery than 10.2 . else theres not much other. or choose KK cm10.2 isnt best choice (if then better use 10.1)
Legacy Xperia CM 11
I'm using Legacy Xperia CM 11 with Android KitKat. It's pretty good. Many issues are resolved. Previously I used CM 10 nightly, the new one is way better than that. And the KitKat is light weight. But battery usage is kinda high.
Maybe you should try Ultimate HD, now version 5.0.1 but version 6.0.1 will be available soon. I have experienced nearly all custom ROMs for Arc and Ultimate HD seems the most stable Rom, good battery life, app compatibility, ... Cyanogen Mod is good but it has problem with app, especially camera apps downloaded from Google store; battery drains a little fast.
There are many choices when it comes to ROM, depending on how you use it. UHD is a good ROM for daily use, but if you play games with your phone then UHD is not a good choice because the base ROM itself cannot handle games well. If you want AOSP ROM with no modifications, you can use CM.
Things like battery life and apps can be managed if you search properly and apply the knowledge.

CM 11 vs CM 12.1 for S4 mini

For those who tried them, which works better overall?
Do both have the Stagefright fix?
Does compass work on any of them?
Anything else that doesn't work on CM?
BTW, I have a GT-I9195

Both work pretty much the same, though CM11 is probably that tiny bit more stable, bit faster, but more battery friendly. Lollipop has its bugs but "some" people don't seem to suffer the same bugs as others. It's still heavily in development but may work fine for you.
Compass was supposedly fixed in the latest build CM11 and also has latest stage fright fix. Think Lollipops compass works as I haven't seen any complaints, and as long as your using one of the latest builds should also have stage fright fixes.
Personally I'm a fan of CM11 but I use debloated stock as it has the original camera drivers. Just don't like the camera quality on custom builds. Though it's not terrible on either of them. Also some apps for me work better on stock.
In the mean time I installed 12.1.
Compass does not work.
The rest seems to work alright, but it's too early to say. I did have a couple of crashes, but not of the system itself. When I played music from two apps at once AudioFX crashed. And "Trebuchet" crashed once, don't remember how.
GPS might be taking a bit longer to get a fix than with stock, but I'm not sure.
Well, at least I hope to avoid the idle battery drain that I got on stock.
Overall the system seems fast enough, but the "fade to dark" effect after some idle time (and back to bright) is pretty choppy/slow. Not sure if that's intended or not.
Have you tried the kernel by SilviuMik for stock ROMS? Is meant to have battery fixes for standby. Though I have never suffered bad standby times, I do like this kernel.
Hi !
Yes...in reality ,objectively , there are only cm11(last release on 01/09/2015) and stocks who work fine .
At this time ,all Lollipop customs are not stable at all for daily use because umpredictables behaviors (maybe it work fine for some members but thes roms may have dysfunctions suddently with "majors big buggs)
With news big security problems ,all JB & KK customs roms are totaly "obsolete" (it's a pity because kk slim , pacman... work fine!) ,they are unusable because not secure...
-The best choice for a good daily use is a stock rom (or STE by ploiki ! Great buid !) with alexax's 0.9 kernel !!! Lighten by own debloating ...:good:
Good baterry life and good choice of parameters with "aduitor kernel"
And stock camera is good..
N5 foyr mini &S6 lollipop project seem good according to some members but i personnaly have had some problem...
-Second choice with cm11 but it's necessary to love customs and it need to replace some "poor" cm stock apps (camera...etc...)
I test the last release now but with recomended parameters , i generaly have found that the battery life is not as good as stock firmware kk&alexax kernel
I found cm11 more stable

Best ROM for stability

I've been running CM since about March this year, still have numerous glitches
Random reboots, lag, newest problem is a loud continious noise from the speaker that requires me to reboot the phone
Im considering a full wipe and reinstall of the latest version of CM12.1
Coming from a Nexus device, I hoped CM on my G3 would be 'stable' now, and pretty bug free, its still annying having to play with CPU governors etc. CM keeps getting changes, but I see very little change on my phone. I would rather efforts went into fixing these bugs than new features.
Can anyone recommend the any particular ROMs ? Dont want to go away from CM, but its driving me crazy now!

Ill check out some of those. Dont really like LG's stock ROM though. Traditionally first thing with a new phone is to wipe it and install CM
you can try xenonHD or telsa,
I am with CloudyG3 2.5 but I would to try an AOSP ROM, which one do you recommend for daily use (stable and fast). I know that one of the main weaknesses is the poor quality of the camera...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/rom-euphoria-os-1-0-t3048515
You can try this rom
As stock rom, clear cloudy 2.5 was stable and as far as aosp roms, xenonhd is the best for me as a daily driver, or euphoria 1.1 but this one had some problems at least for me.

I have been running build 0.26 for 3 days now as my daily driver. This rom is very stable. I am very happy that everything on this rom that I use on a regular basis works very well. The utouch button works flawlessly for me, even with the navigation bar enabled. The configuration is perfect to my preference - tap (back), press (home), swipe left (recents), swipe right (menu). The finger print scanner works perfectly. I have not had any issues. I was surprised when I first flashed the rom that there was not a messaging app or brower installed, but I guess that is part of the Slim concept. I was able to install messages and google chrome from the play story and they are working great. The battery life is comparable to Lineage OS and Mokee rom on my phone with my configuration. I will say with the other roms I was running Greenify as well, but with Slim7 I decided to try the rom without Greenify, and I am getting about the same battery life. SOT for me is a little over 4.5 hours. Performance is pretty good with an antutu score of 140662. I also rooted the rom with Magisk v12 and I have no issues with root. This rom is very smooth and works great. There are not a lot of configuration options with this rom, but what is available works very well. If you are looking for a stable rom, that works very well without a lot of extra "fluff", then I highly recommend this rom for you to try. Kudos to the development team on this rom. Thank you for the great work!!

The rom is simply perfect, no bugs and stable for daily use... But the v0.26 is much better on battery than v0.27 (1.30/2h more on the same usage) and slightly higher performance (always at 0.26)

Not sure when you installed v0.27, but I noticed the same thing on day 1. On day 2 it seems to be better for me, much like v0.26 was. I have no complaints today with the battery life, but that is just me with my setup. Your mileage could definitely be different.
