[Q] call recorder app by skvalex - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I'm a total noob. T989/GS2 my first smart phone. Would be fine leaving it stock but I need to record incoming calls for work. call recorder by skvalex seems to be the best but doesn't work without root, ROM, etc.
Threads for other phones mention issues with certain ROMs and kernels.
Anyone with a t989 gs2 using this app without issue? What ROM and kernel do you use?
I fear screwing up my phone so I am hoping to do it right the first time.
Marcus

I'm using juggernaut and the kernel that came with it. I had no problems with that app at all. I just didn't like the auto record. I'm waiting for miui, on my old vibrant it had the option to record the call while you were in the call... Miui is the way to go.

Oh the wife is already mad how much time I spend tinkering on this thing. I am hooked! I rooted last night with SuperOneClick 2.2 and installed the paid version of CallRecorder by skvalex. It just needed superuser permission and now it works perfect! I am one happy camper over here!!
It does not have to record every call. Look in the settings. A "start recording" button appears when someone answers the call. You dont have to press it unless you choose to. You can end the recording mid call too. Sound quality is great on both sides and you do not have to use speakerphone like the others I tried.
Problem solved thanks to info found in the forum!

Curious why that app needs to "read sensitive log data"

Are there any negative consequences to rooting from T-mobile? How hard is it to go back to an unrooted phone? BTW I saw a ulocked and rooted sg2 on ebay for 10,000? Why would someone pay so much?
Thanks.

Can someone help me? root + modding problems

Hello everyone, i've messed up my defy, and i really want someone to help me fix it, i followed this guide to modify it:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893291 and after i did everything except stuff that required adb, because adb wouldnt let me view my phone, swype errors keep popping up, and i open the system recovery app, but whenever i press recovery boot, nothing happens. Any help?
Most probably your phone is not yet rooted if recovery is not responding. So just reflash an sbf you prefer using RSDlite and then use Z4Root app which is just one click process. After this, installing recovery and doing mods will hopefully be a child's play.

ok ive fixed it all and its rerooted, but for some reason i cant hear people when they call me but they can hear me, and my volume for calls is on max, i can only hear them through the speakerphone setting. also, i cant get adb to work in cmd
Oh my god! sorry to say this but I think your ear piece just failed. Its the common problem plaguing defy users from the US region. I think you will need to exchange your phone now.
Please hold on to get some more answers to see if I am wrong. I hope I am.
wow i only had it for like a week......
Actually it is plauging other European regions and a few US users, though the number is growing.

Stock ROM, no root. No in call audio?

Hey guys. So yea I recently just got my replacement phone two days ago. Tmo pushed an update to my phone, and now I lost my in-call audio. The weird thing is my mic works, rendering me only able to talk on speakerphone. Which is embarrassing around my friends haha. So yea I guess I have a few questions. 1) anyone know what the **** happened and how I can fix it? 2)Should I just root it and flash a newer, better ROM? Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance
If it's completely stock why not just call tmobile

My phone is rooted with dark side beta 5 and I just got done going to the same issue just try a reboot it a few times see if it works it's not back to reset it and see if that works and if not then I will just take it back
Edit: also going to your settings then applications then all scroll down the phone and clear data if that works

Have you tried a battery pull? You would be amazed that a fresh reboot fixes. If that doesn't work get a replacement. Don't bother rooting a improperly working phone.....

Can't hear person during call & person can't hear me.

Hello and thank you in advance to all. I have a t989,
I run AOKP Galaxysbean V_12
KKO Kernel Governor is Smartass V2 and I/O is deadline
UVLI4 Radio
Problem: I know for a fact this is not a hardware problem, because I have went through 3 phone replacements because of stupidity and learning how to root phone, flash roms, yada, yada, etc. And with each of these phones this persistent problem occurs where all of the sudden at any given time, I will go to make a call and nothing. I can't hear the ring of another person's number, my voicemail, etc. The person does get the call, and when they answer, I still cannot hear them, and they cannot hear me.
Resolution: Ways I have fixed this before are with the first and second phone I flashed over a new radio, (previously UVLE1, UVLH1, 4G Blaze) and it fixed the calling upon reboot. Also I had flashed custom roms, or restored previous Nandroid backups and it worked again. (Little annoying doing this every 3 or 4 days. Though today, this happened with my newest phone, and flashing a radio did not work nor did restoring a Nandroid. This time I had to flash a new custom rom, then it worked. Then I flashed back over the Nandroid and it still works as of now.
Question: Could this be because of the kernel? Or the rom?

same here
Me and my wife have the same issues. We both have GS2s but hers is stock unrooted and mine is running CM10.1. Been dealing with Tmobile for months without success, swapping out cut down on how often its happening but did not fix it. Tmobile is stumped, very annoyed by this issue.
Not sure what's causing the problem but it seems jellybean 4.2 has fixed this issue. Try flashing AOKP 4.2 and make sure noise suppression is enabled and call this number 9143388802. The third option is an echo test and fourth option let's you record a playback to listen to how you sound. If you sound normal and people are still complaining then its their phone.

I've come to the conclusion that its a rom problem because for me it happens with only certain roms. Ive tried all the rom kernel combinations and different radios but the only fix I've found is to retire that particular rom, no matter how good it is. Smoothness aint gonna get the cops or the fireman to your house. The only roms that have worked for me as far as call quality are, for some reason all of TheLastSidekick's Kangs, Darkside evolution 3, Sky Jellybean, Rushing's Bulletproof, and both of the 10.1 variants we have. The strange thing is I can't recall any call quality issue's when flashing roms from the Skyrocket thread. For instance I get the worst call quality ever using Jedi Jelly, but I'm crystal clear using Embryo from the Skyrockets thread, so much so I wont even try our version of the same rom.
I blame T-Mobile network. This would happen to me all the way back to my old flip phones. Every other call or so would do this. I've always put up with it cuz I like T-Mobile customer service.

I actually just realized this problem persisted when I would turn on the phone and try to make a phone call to quickly. After becoming aware of this. I turned the phone off and allowed it to fully boot back up, and it worked again.

I can confirm that this is the problem. I rebooted my phone, called someone right away, and couldn't hear anything. Next I let it load for 40 seconds after boot, and I can hear fine.
Now we have to tell t-mobile this.

This is not the issue, it also happens to phones that have been on for minutes/hours/days.
Is there any updates on this issue? My wife is having this problem on her phone, and it seem like it's been getting worse...

I found out with my problem. It was when I tried to make a call to soon. It would do this. As long as I have let the phone load for a minute or two after boot, I haven't had any more problems. My problem may be different from yours tho. Hope this helps.
I'm having this issue, and its not from calling too quick after a boot.
It came on out of the blue the evening of March 6 ...
I have the Tmob phone but it's unlocked and I'm using a Straight Talk AT&T SIM, connected to the AT&T network in Sierra Vista, AZ.
Ok... I need help. I am such a novice at this stuff but I find myself so very interested in the world of root, and the freedom that it brings. Basically my entire knowledge of computers..... Is Android, and worse than that, I'm self taught... Please don't run!! I'm a super quick study. Ok now to my problem, I started off rooting my T 989 surprisingly enough with absolutely no issues at all, or at least that I could tell. Ran beautiful and super smooth, then I went app hoarding and installed A fonts package installer, opened it, it installed about 85 prcnt. done and crashed. Never made it back. The novice, and the dumbass in me, FREAKED! and did an uneducated, no experience attempt to make recovery....... 4 times needless to say that I COMPLETELY wiped the entire phone. I had a friend bless me and show me a thing or two and I successfully managed to flash one of your Roms to it and I must tell you that I supremely thankful to all who n these projects.... MAD RESPECT to all of you. So the one issue I am clearly having is everyone I speak to says I sound like I'm on speaker or just can't generally hear me. Been through the settings a couple of times and I am pretty sure that I have them correct, and I have not touched anything that I wasn't sure about, and I definitely have completely refrained from pimpin my kernel. I really just need someone who can spend a little time setting me straight on some unfamiliars. Also just have a few stupid questions that won't be the least bit stupid after I get them answered. Any time any one can lend would be greatly appreciated and someone's good deed for the day. Thanks for allowing me to vent guy's

Just leave me some thanks. Under your phone settings, there should be a noise surrpression box. Make sure it is check marked. Every time I do that people have said I sound better. What do you want to do? Change it back to custom rom? P.S. ALWAYS MAKE A NANDROID BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING.. ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS!.. Google will solve many questions too. If nothing helps or you need to be walked through some processes, message me.
Enable noise suppression in phone settings. Fixed my problem.

ATT Samsung Galaxy S III/SGH-I747 4.2.1 bluetooth issues

X-iPhone user here but I have owned android honeycomb tablets in the past.
hey guys, I have been at this for days. I LOVE what 4.2.1 brings to the table over the stock bloatware 4.1.1 that slows down the phone(also kills the battery faster). but No matter what ROM I try I get choppy bluetooth . With CyanogenMod 10.0 BT works but There is no bass until I make a BT call let it ring for 5 seconds then hang up. But there are other issues all BT related as well such as no resume on start up of the headunit.
my question is am I doing something wrong or just not using the right roms?
right now I restored back to the OEM 4.1.1 and my BT works perfect with my poineer AVH-P3400BH with the exception of no METADATA but thats not a big deal.
thanks so much for your reply
Shawn
I've been using the latest vanilla root box. This thing is beastly, give it a shot. I'm a big Bluetooth user too, and the audio is crisp and loud, with good bass, no need to make a phone call. The only thing, every so often (read, not very often) the Bluetooth doesn't like to turn off. All you have to do it force stop Bluetooth sharing in manage apps though.
Give it a shot. Easily one of the best ROMs I've ever used.

crap, It was working for a while with RootBox-JB-d2att-V3.6 but I had to do the phone call before I got bass again. I also cant see Metadata or hear texts. After a few calls and a few texts the phone crashed and I just had a flashing blue light and a black screen. this stinks I really like the phone and want this to work.
im going to try 3.7.1 and if that dont work im going to give up :crying:

To root or not to root?

I'm not new to rooting phones but I'm still trying to decide if I'll root the 3a XL. My main motivation for rooting is that I want call recording. Can anyone confirm that it is possible using Bold Beast or similar on this phone if it is rooted?
Also, if I root what happens with updates? Do I need to flash updates manually when they are released? Is there much involved in doing that? And will I still be ok when Q is released?
Any help and advice is appreciated.
I do it for ad away and custom kernels
I use call recorder, works fine, cant comment on other apps. With updates you can just use the magisk after ota method, works slick and you don't lose anything. Not sure how it will shake out with Q in the particulars but at worst you'll need to back up and clean flash.

Thanks. I miss root, not having TB, but when Google took the heavy handed approach with call recording it's really annoying me. Funny thing is call recording works fine on my OnePlus 6 running P, because OnePlus has obviously thumbed their nose at Google regarding it. It's built into the OP6 rom and a small app from Play called JOnePlus Tools enables it and ensures it stays enabled after a reboot.
Loving this Pixel though, especially the camera and battery life.
Dont know how they're all working, I just searched magisk for a call recording app and installed call recorder. I seldom need call recording but it's nice to have when you need it. Like talking to the cable company...
