Need cheap car charger that charges full current - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Can anyone recommend a car charger that is cheap and charges the unit like its on AC power? Some of the cheaper ones I've purchased in the past charged my phone like it was on usb power.
TIA!

Just open up one of your cheap chargers and short the middle two pins of the USB jack. A drop of solder worked on mine. There are only four pins, so it should be easy to follow and find a place on the circuit board to do it.
Once you get it done, plug in the phone and it will show that it's charging on AC, which means it's pulling 1 amp.

Plenty different ones available, but I use this one. There are cheaper ones, but this one is a quality build that charges at 1 full amp! Motorola brand for around $6 including shipping.

i've had android phones since year one. i've always bought my accessories from cellphoneshop.net and never had a problem

Dude, go to wallymart or somewhere and get an AC converter. I bought one with 2 AC outlets and 1 USB for fairly cheap at wallymart. You wont regret it. It charges my laptop, phone, and gf's phone just fine.

Monoprice has a 1a usb charger for $1.33. I was looking at it yesterday but don't have the link handy at the moment. They're also the best place to buy usb cables too.

+1 I have this Motorola charger and it's great. There was even a whole thread full of people repping it a few forum pages back

$1.40 cheaper, $5.07 right now and Prime shipping.

Thanks for the original link!

The best car chargers I've found are the Palm chargers for the Pre. For some reason they seem to work much better than any other car charger that I have used. You just need to make sure you get model number 3453WW, because there is also an older model that looks the same but doesn't provide the full 1A charge.

Damn. I was wondering WHY in the world this phone took SO STINKING LONG to charge. I mean OVER NIGHT and still not quite done sometimes (extended battery)
Gonna stalk me some good chargers

so instead of starting my own thread.. thought id bump this up...
any new chargers out there.. for car... can be either the usb one (as i have the cig lighter to usb plug... )..or cig lighter..
just feeling out there if anything has changed..
we went on a LONG drive.. 376miles.. and using gps and my phone in my infuse dock.. it was charging.. but draining more than charging... by 1/2 way it was below 50%.... so the road i needed to take was super long so just turned phone off for a while...
was using the charger from my wifes incognito so i figured maybe that car charger didnt have enough A to it.. so bought a new charger from walmart.. and it didnt do any better...
thanks guys...
p.s. on my way home from work (1hr drive) im going to plug straight into my phone instead of the infuse dock and run the gps and see if it charges any different...

Even if the car charger says it can put out 2A the phone will only draw 500mah unless the two inner pins are shorted. Samsung does their chargers this way to identify to the phone that its plugged into a wall charger instead of a computer. (computers are only rated for 500mah on the USB port, although some can go higher)
You could open up the charger and short the pins, or if the charger is the kind where you plug your own cord in you can modify the cord itself. I have a "charging only cord" for when the phone needs a fast boost.

How do I short these two pins? Any thing with pics?

Still using my Palm Pre car chargers. Had them since the Pre days back in 2009 and they still work great. Buy.com has them for $6.95 with free shipping.

Hey, as the only verified genius here I wanted to share a great and cheap way to charge your phone. As i understand it you want the speed and current of AC out of your car's 12 volt dc system. They currently make something that works with ALL phone models. It is called an inverter. You just plug your stock phone charger into it. It will work fine for your phone but it wouldnt be wise to try use this it watch a 42" plasma tv. Here is one for 6 bucks that plugs in your lighter socket.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003C2YE8M/ref=redir_mdp_mobile
By the way, I can't endorse this product. I hope you get the general idea. As always you get what you pay for. Read the reviews and look for the inverter that you think would work best for you.

I would recommend getting the AC/usb adapter for an iphone or ipad, because they tend to run on a higher voltage (5v) than many cheap AC/usb adapters you can probably find off-brand one pretty cheap all over. If anything just make sure your adapter runs on about 5v. I just recommened iphone ones because there are more accessory manufacturers for i-products and you can generally find a wider selection of what you are looking for regarding this topic. I would check walmart first if money is an issue.

The 1 amp charger i got from the dollar store already had this in place. I cant say I would have recommended anyone to get one from the dollar store. Ive checked out the components on this one its not too bad.

Note that most cheap inverters use a modified sine wave to gain efficiencies over 80%. Most phone chargers will work okay you might get a little buzzing. But you will often run into chargers, power supplies etc that will only operate properly on a pure sine wave inverter.

[Q] Where can I get a 1A car charger in Canada?

I bought this kit from e-bay and just got it in today, so have been trying it out on my drive from home <-> work.
The problem is, the car charger they supplied doesn't seem to be sufficient to charge the phone or at least keep its battery at a constant state when I'm using it as a GPS + Streaming music. On my drive home, I started at about 50% battery life. An hour or so later, I was down to about 35ish with it plugged in nearly the entire time. So clearly it's not pumping enough juice to the device
I was thinking of buying one of these from monoprice but I wanted to make sure it really would give me enough power. Obviously the power isn't that big of an issue, but I don't want to wait for it to ship only to find out that it doesn't help anyways.
Anyone tried the monoprice one I linked to, or one of the other ones from there? Or can suggest one to buy from elsewhere? Would greatly appreciate it, thank you!
*edit*
I should mention, I have a car charger uhh splitter thing...to split the one socket into two (one for an FM transmitter, and one for the phone). Could this be a limiting factor in how much power I'm getting to the phone as well? Or should the single socket have enough power for both devices?
I got a Kensington PowerBolt from Future Shop which claims to be 2.1 amps and I still drained the battery a bit when testing the nav. Possibly not as much as you but there is still a net loss. If the charger is accurate in its power then I presume my car isn't delivering enough power.
Any car charger that supports the ipad should be well above 1.0a. Whether it delivers that is a question I cannot answer.
Im going to test direct power charging while having the nav on to see if this thing can ever charge positive while in nav mode. I wonder if that has ever been done.

I am not aware of any car charger that is 1amp. What you are looking for is pretty rare
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
They are a little more prevalent thanks to the ipads higher power requirements for charging.
Future Shop has a few of them available now if you want. A little expensive though at $30+. I don't see the PowerBolt anymore which is too bad since that was a slim model that barely poked out of the socket.

This is completely untrue... did you make this up?
Griffin makes many:
http://reviews.bestbuy.com/3545/1207248/griffin-technology-powerjolt-car-charger-reviews/reviews.htm
Belkin and Kensington make them as well. Many are now 2.1A for the iPad.
But to the OP - a 1amp charger is not going to fix your problem in most cases. You need a cable with the data pins shorted so that the phone thinks it is pulling power from something other then a USB port.
A USB port only supplies 500mA - the phone will draw a max of about 750mA; but only if it thinks it is not attached to a PC. The wall charger shorts the data connection so the phone knows to pull more current.
I purchased a dual port (1A per port) charger at target or walmart, and then a took a USB cable and cut open the cable and shorted the data wires (not red or white - but the other 2). My phone says it is charging on AC power and charging keeps up with GPS.
It is possible that you could buy a car charger with the cable built in and the circuitry set to tell the phone to draw more then the USB 500mA, but I am not sure.
But know this; if the phone does not say "AC Charging" under settings->phone-> about - like it does when the wall charger is in use; then you are only getting 500mA.
I use a 2 amp 12v to usb adapter that is use for my ecig passthrough. Charges with bluetooth, streaming music, and navigation all running but charges slowly. Something like $8 on madvapes.com

Oooo that's interesting, didn't know that. So perhaps the issue could be that my cable is not supplying enough power. Are there instructions somewhere detailing how to short the cable?

You're going to need to strip a cable so so that you can get to the individual wires for each pin. You want to short pins 2 and 3 together which are Data- and Data+. Normally that is WHITE and GREEN

Once you do that, you'll have a charge only cable.

I think the shorted data pins are necessary, but 2 amps wouldn't be too much. Li-ion batts love fast short charges.

I thought there might be a limit on how much current you can provide at any one time.
On the original subject: I've started using a different car charger, and now have it plugged directly into the socket in my car. This results in it showing up as being charged by AC power in the settings -> phone status. However, it still loses power over time instead of keeping at the same charge or (ideally) charging the phone slowly.
I'm going to see if I can get my hands on that 2A charger and modify a cable, and see what happens then.
If anyone would like to see if the same thing happens to them, the main applications I have running are:
Google Navigation
TuneIn Radio (streaming from one of the DI.FM stations, and outputting audio to the headphone jack to my car)
I have 3g and GPS on, wifi off, brightness set to auto (have also tried with it set to the lowest it goes and the highest it goes, doesn't seem to make a substantial difference. Or even if it does, there is still a net loss in battery charge.)
It's on stock rogers rom, rooted, with no lag fix. And uhhh, that's all I can think of that would be relevant.
I've got an New Trent IMP1000, which is an 11.1Ah battery pack. It can output a max of 1A, but the phone doesn't see it as an AC charger, so it only draws .5A. If I short out the two pins so that it draws more power, how will the battery life of the battery pack be? Meaning how many phone charges will I get out of it? Will it be shorter, longer, or not have an impact?

You should still get the same number of "phone charges" out from the pack...they'll just be quicker charges afaik. i.e. if the pack took 4 hours to do a full phone charge before, it may only take 2 hours now. The same amount of power is used up each time though.
any progress?

[REVIEW] RocketFish Car Charger

hey guys. I don't normally do reviews but I figured it would be helpful since we all want good car chargers.
since I've had my Evo i've always charged it in my car using the USB charger from my previous WinMo phone. it never really charged it as much as it kept the battery from draining any more. well the charger kicked the bucket this monday and I got me this charger to replace it:

RocketFish Premium Micro-USB 2 AMP charger - got it at Best Buy for about $25.
it's a 2 AMP charger...so it charges fast...and i mean, noticeably fast. I always have poweramp with the screen on brightest on while i'm driving. with the previous charger it would stay at the same battery level or drop one percent. with this charger the battery level actually goes up.
the charger is made of a nice hard plastic material, much better build than the one I had before. the cord is long but coiled so it's not in the way if you dont need it to stretch out (i dont).
it also has a usb port so you can charge other devices. haven't tried it yet but it's a good option for charging my wife's phone or any other device.
all-in-all I give the charger (for my needs) a 10/10 and thats why I felt the need to post about it here!
hope someone finds the review useful
Nice review but you're phone is probably charging at the same rate as if its the stock charger. If your Evo was charging at 2A it'd probably be smoking
Maybe but I wasnt using the stock charger until now...i was using an aftermarket charger for a different phone!
Swyped from my HTC Evo 4G on the MetroPCS 1X network!
I have the Rocketfish charger as well. I would give it a 2/10. I was using it and noticed that it wasn't charging all of the time. I later found out that there was a short at the usb end of the plug. The usb finally just fell off. Normally I would say it was just a fluke but it happened to 2 chargers in a row. Twenty Five dollars is to much to pay for a charger that's going to break. I take good care of my chargers. I have one that i've been using for 2 years. It won't work with this phone because it has the larger usb end.

I've had both my Evo and car charger for about two weeks now and no problem with the charger. I'm not easy on my chargers, nor phones. But on the normal day it's getting used about 14hrs and being swapped between my tractor-trailer and pickup. Can't comment much about the charge time, other then it is quicker then my home charger. But knowing cheap rocketfish products i give it maybe 2 months. Overall I'd say about 4 stars
I got the same charger for $12.50 at Frye's in Dallas... It works great, use it quite a bit and it does actually charge the phone instead of just keeping it the same (like the other one I had been using, like the OP, aftermarket from an older phone)... It's been pretty good to me
I am not impressed with Rocketfish products...prices can be high for items that you can find lower elsewhere. I bought this OEM HTC Car charger on ebay for $3.99 for my Evo. It works great. For what you buy one Rocketfish car charger- you can buy 5 HTC car chargers.
http://cgi.ebay.com/CAR-CHARGER-HTC...280880?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item41557f4ef0
I tried one of the $5 and the thing literally broke one day after I got it... it wouldnt stay plugged into the phone.. So I spent a little more and have one that seems like it should last a while...
Well it seems opinions are mixed about this charger. It's the first product I buy from rocket fish and as I said so far I'm very pleased.
I also dont like waiting for shipping when I can buy the product locally. Granted I didnt go to best buy to replace my charger but since I was already there...

The exact same thing happened to me. This charger is garbage, especially for the price. I'm pretty sure I can find a better, more durable charger for under $10 at amazon.com.
OEM HTC charger, $3.99, is still working great. The wire does not feel flimsy- feels very sturdy. The plastic is also durable. The input plug fits in snuggly and does not come out easily- and yet it slides in quickly. The cord is long enough.

What's the model/part # for the HTC charger? I want to see if I can get this charger faster than waiting a few weeks.
I just picked up the Rocketfish charger for $27. I got tired of the slow charging speeds from my current car charger. Didn't want to buy online and not be able to return chargers if I didn't like the charger or whatever. So far the Rocketfish is charging up to 2x as fast as my other car chargers, about 100-150 mA faster than the stock HTC wall charger. The Rocketfish seems to charge about 1 % per minute, which is good enough for my stop and go busy life. Tried the Sprint 2600 extended battery, couldn't find any compatible accessories that I wanted to use with my Evo. Your guess is as good as mine how long the Rocketfish will last.
I use this same charger, I've had it for about 4 months with no problems at all, it works great.
I found my "lost" Motorola SPN5400A which charges about 100-150 mA slower than the Rocketfish. So the Rocketfish is going back.
Time-wise, the charging times seem very close.
The Motorola SPN5400A's can be hit or miss. While testing some chargers I had, I found a bad SPN5400A (not always charging, only charge 2% over 30 mins, etc.) and had to toss it out. Luckily, I had another SPN5400A that worked.
Just an update on this charger. I have been using it for a few months now and it is a piece of junk. Started out good and then the charge end became to loose and it ended up not charging. So at this point I went and bought a USB thing for my cigarette lighter an use a standard USB cable

which charge end are you referring to? the 12v connector? the usb port on top? or the usb connector on the integrated cable?
if you're referring to the micro usb connection on the EVO, that's different. That's a known problem.
I have the motorola spn5400a, I run into 2 of my spn5400a's not charging the EVO even though the light is on.

The USB end that plugs into the phone. For the longest time I used the top port to charge the phone. I noticed the loose ness one day while driving when the phone shut off while I was on the phone.

[Q] Slow charging via 12v car socket?

Hi all,
With my Samsung Galaxy SII, I used to use the following 12v car socket to USB adaptor found here and the standard MicroUSB cable to charge the phone whilst using it as a sat nav.
As you can see from the specification page, the Griffin adaptor provides 5v @1amp and the Galaxy SII would fast charge as if it were plugged into an AC adaptor at home.
Works in your vehicle's 12 volt power outlet
Charge 2 USB devices at the same time
SmartFuse circuit-breaker protection means no fuses to replace
Super-compact form factor
5 watts per port (5 volts @ 1 amp)
However, the Galaxy Nexus sees it as being charged via USB and as a result, loses charge when being used as a sat nav despite being plugged in.
Does anyone know why there's a difference between the Galaxy SII and Galaxy Nexus?
Happens to me too and I have a 2.1 Amp car adapter designed to charge tablets... and it still looses charge as you use Google Maps in Navigation mode.
I'm currently on a Rezound, but i have a Belkin 2.1A USB car charger and when i plug the phone in to that with the included USB cable, it also registers as "charging USB" and charges super slow(loses charge depending on what i'm doing with the phone)....
yet if i use the same USB cable, but rather then use the Belkin charger, put it through a Power Inverter, then it registers as "charging AC" and charges the phone up in no time.
sadly i could not find any option/setting to manually switch the phone from USB to AC(or vice-versa)... just know that the phone is detecting what's being used to charge it and go from there.
you need the real deal
a 2A car charger that does not act as a USB charger
check out Deal Extreme they got many good ones for cheap
The data lines are being loaded to fool the phone into thinking it's connected via USB.
You need to cut your USB cable and disconnect the two data lines.
But AllGamer's solution is probably easier.
an alternative would be to buy a USB charging cable only, without the extra wires
but now in days those are extremely hard to find
back in the Treo days, it was the opposite, very easy to find charging USB cables, but hard & expensive to find sync USB cables
LOL such an irony
If you already have a charger, you can also get one of these: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/usb-data-charging-extension-cable-for-samsung-p1000-black-91141

How come it charged via A/C with the exact same setup on the Galaxy SII?
I think it's the other way around, the two data lines need to be shorted in order to trick the phone that it's connected to an A/C charger.
A kernel developer for the HTC Incredible has a patch to 'fast charge' the phone on <1amp chargers. I'm sure a GN developer will do the same here.

i found 2 that were 2000mA(2A) on that site but they don't specify if they'll register as "charging USB" or "charging AC".
[EDIT]: and i just noticed your post above mine right after i replied, but that kind of car charger you're using is different from the ones we want to use. we want to just be able to use a standard micro USB cable and plug it into one of those micro USB charger dongles.

Hard to say since it has no current rating.
But it's more than likely a crap one limited to 1000mA. And in my own testing, they usually fall over at around 500mA and don't get anywhere near their rating.
The good ones that do 2100mA (commonly labelled iPad chargers) are £10-20.
I've struggled so much trying to get a decent car charger that I eventually just bought an inverter and use my mains charger. It's the only one beefy enough to power my phone while running satnav. My current phone is a three year old HTC Touch Pro. I can only imagine the Nexus will be even more thirsty.

on the output you should see:
2A or 2.1A sometimes referred to as 2000 mAh or 2100 mAh
and 5V
don't get anything higher than 5V else it will damage your phone

rather then mangling the USB cable, there's a site here that explains how to just short out the data connectors inside the USB dongle itself... it helps to speak german, but google translate is somewhat helpful:

Review of Anker 3.6A (18W) Dual USB Car Charger w/pics!

This is a review of Anker Bolt 3.6A (18W) Dual USB Car Charger: Anker Car Charger
From my own personal experience I use Note 2 every day as GPS to/from work. Everything is usually on (display, bluetooth), plus GPS/Google maps are up, and I take/make phone calls in a middle of all that. What does that mean? Battery is draining really fast, and even with car charger you need at least 2A output to be able to charge at faster rate than discharging with everything on. 2A charger is not hard to find, although question always come up if you can trust their actual rating. If you want to take it to the next level and charge another smart phone, you can probably find a dual charger with 2A and 1A, although reliability and current sharing during simultaneous use of ports might be in question. This new product from Anker took it to the next level where they are offering dual port output with 2.1A and 1.5A outputs and guarantee full current supply from each port at the same time. In terms of reliability, they are offering 18 months warranty which I think is a bold statement of confidence in their product.
3.6A, which is 18W, is a lot of power and to my surprise the charger was actually very small and lightweight. The dimensions of the end with dual ports is only 26 mm x 24 mm, and the whole charger is very lightweight and only 22g. This small size is very convenient for tight spaces like in your arm-rest compartment, and just in general is unobtrusive to use anywhere in the car. I know they advertise it as dual port with 2.1A for Apple (obviously iPad) and 1.5A for smart phones, but I confirmed that our Note 2 charges perfectly from Apple port. As a matter of fact that would be the best port to use for Note 2 fast charging. I took a picture in my car to demonstrate that both of the ports worked charging Note 2.
Overall it's a great little dual usb port car charger from a trusted company with a punch of 3.6A capacity split between 2.1A and 1.5A ports where both can be used simultaneously so you can do a fast charging of two devices at the same time. Plus, you can get it on Amazon for under $12 which is a bargain.
Here are a few pics:

Don't know if I ever get around it. I'm testing my ZeroLemon 9300 mAh so I mostly discharging my battery rather than charging it up. Will take a while before I get to in car charging Beside for me timing charge in the car makes no sense because I use my N2 for GPS and calls all the time, so I'm discharging it at a heavy rate as it charges up. But for sure, it goes up 15%-20% with this charger during my 1hr commute, but only because I use GPS/BT/display fully on at max brightness. This car charger is true 2.1A/1.5A, so the charging time from 2.1A shouldn't be any different than our OEM wall charger.

You should be able to use the Galaxy Charge Current app (available on the play store) to see how much current it's supplying (although this may vary depending on the USB cable you use with it, a reason why I'm purchasing the variant with a built in micro-usb cable and a usb port) although I seem to remember you stating in another thread you had one of the US variants of the Note II and the app may not be compatible with those.

Quick update on this:
Although the Galaxy Charge Current app only reports the charger giving 1.2a, over an approximately 15 minute period with the screen on, music playback, GPS lock and video recording @ 720p with DailyRoads Voyager, the charger was still able to charge my N7100 from 80% to 86%, which isn't bad considering the heavy load it was under.
The particular charger I bought is this one

Ah, thanks for the info. Seems I'm only missing out on 300mA though (one reviewer says the android port on that is rated at 1.5A and I get 1.2A from mine) so I don't think I'll go for that one. this way I know I'm going to get a decent charge no matter what usb cable I use. I've only got one that's actually capable of charging at full speed and having to take it everywhere I go would be annoying, the fixed charger on this is perfect for me.
Only posted here to help others looking for a decent car charger, as you did. Every other thread I see on the topic seems to recommend usb chargers such as yours but never recommend cables capable of utilising them to their full potential.
Anyway, keep up the great reviews
Most of them make me want to spend money I know I shouldn't on things I don't necessarily need

Absolutely! I highly recommend to use Monoprice usb 28AWG/24AWG cables with Ferrite choker and gold-plated connectors. You need thicker cables to handle 2A current. Do not use thin computer cables designed for 500mA current.
Monoprice cables are very cheap too, 3ft for $1.08: http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10303&cs_id=1030307&p_id=8640&seq=1&format=2 or 6ft for $1.40: http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10303&cs_id=1030307&p_id=8641&seq=1&format=2

I'd go with what Vectron suggested.
In the UK the only cable I've found that does is an old BlackBerry usb cable my cousin had. Swapped it for a spare cable I had that only did 1A because her phone only charges at 1A anyway.

Absolutely, it's low voltage drop cable design. Plus it never failed me in the car either if it's 100deg C or down to single digits.
Just ordered one to see if it'll trigger my iBolt Dock's USB charging/audio feature. Hopefully it does...if it doesn't, well least I can charge two phones in the car at once now.
Ordered these cables from monoprice, used with my original charger and couldn't get my ZL9300 charged over 72%. Kept it on charger for over 12 hours

Can't be the cable. It's just a thick wire. If it would have been defective, you wouldn't be able to even charge it up to 72%, although you can never tell for sure. So you have used original Samsung 2A wall charger with it's original cable from the same AC wall outlet to charge up your Note 2 with Zerolemon before to 100% without any problem? I just want to baseline your working setup so you can troubleshoot from there. If it was working before in exactly the same setup and you only replaced the cable, can you go back to the original cable and see if it will charge it to 100% without a problem? If not, then it's something wrong with a cable. Make sure nothing funny is going on with your AC wall outlet plug. I discovered that in my house I have a few that not allowing me to do fast charging due to some electric wiring limitation. Also, make sure everything is connected all the way in. Depending on the case you are using, some of these micro-usb connectors are a bit too thick to go all the way in, and although it looks like you are charging - because connector is not mated all the way in, you have a bad contact and limiting charging current. I actually BET you that's exactly what is going on. I have so many usb-to-micro-usb cables around, can't keep track of it. But I remember at my work I had to slice a piece of micro-usb connector to make it thinner to work with my Zerolemon TPU, and I believe that was monoprice cable. Definitely check it out, cause that could be a problem in your case.
Everything was the same, same 2A charger, same outlet, same phone with ZL battery . Just replaced my Samy cable with 6ft one from monoprice. Will try again tomorrow with oem cable, will see how it goes

Trim micro usb connector. Gotta be it.
It seems to fit pretty tight, but I will definitely try it.
Ha! The Anker direct store in ebay is selling this for $55!! What is it made of gold now? LOL.

Secondary Charger

Is there any charge cables or adapters out there that are not genuine Samsung that will charge the Tab S properly? It seems like the only way I can get a normal charge is using the wall adapter and cable it came with. I have tried 3 different after market cables and 3 different wall adapters that don't seem to work with the Tab S. Are these wall adapter or cables just not putting out enough power?
Not really, I haven't found anything that will charge it properly except it's original charger. The sad thing is, the original charger is not widely sold. Something Samsung has been struggling with.

This is MHL compliant. 2Ah, 5,3V. Most newer chargers for tablets do that. Including those cheepo ones from China. I have several of those (some multi USB chargers) which work well on the Tab S.
Staples near me was closing down, I got an original Samsung 2 Amp travel charger for 3 bucks, normally $23.00 marked down to $9.00 and when they rang it up at the register it came up as $3.00. I agree any 2 Amp 5.3 V charger should work to charge the Tab S.
Sorry to bump an old thread but has anyone else had luck with aftermarket chargers?
I have the 10.5" , I have a usb power meter and it shows my original charger charges my tablet at up to 1800ma , not bad for a 2000 ma charger, I have tried a couple of other third-part chargers they are rated at 2000ma + and they only charge my tab at 1000ma , but my Nokia 1020 charger that is 1500ma charges my tab at 1400ma so that is very good for that charger, it`s an Nokia AC60X , I wonder if Nokia does an 2000ma version of this charger.

I installed 2 110v recepticles, one on each side of the bed, that each have 2 USB connections. The USB plugs on it are rated for 2 amps each. Using the factory charging cable these things work great. Both mine and my wife's charge just fine using them.
Also have a 5v 2 amp USB wall wart that came with an ecig battery and it works fine too.
Do you know the make and model number? , they sound very handy to have.
Thanks

Nope I sure don't but I did buy them a Lowe's at about 19.00 each. They have one 110V outlet and two USB ports. I have also seen a device you just plug into your existing outlet that will give you 2 USB and 2 110V outlets but I don't know how they are rated for current. Just make sure what you buy is rated at 2Amps for EACH USB port or 4+amps total.

Nope that is a plug into the existing outlet type of thing. Mine was a replacement receptacle. I looked at Lowe's and Home Depot sites and could not find one that was rated at 2 amps for each USB port. 3.6 Amps was the best I could do. I know the one I bought is rated for 4.2 amps overall as this was the very reason I bought it! Pretty sure it came from Lowe's or Home Depot they're the only two places in town. I do know that I didn't find it online. I remember being in the store and looking at every one they had and reading the specs on each box and I found the ones I have so I scarfed them up as soon as I saw they were rated for 4.2 amps.
BUT - That one you found should be fine and save you from having to hard wire it. Just remember, only one port is optimized for 2.1 amps! I have to go to Lowe's today so I might pick one up for the kitchen as my wife uses an old Toshiba tablet for recipes and that would be convenient for her.
I am in the UK so i would have to buy a UK version, but a lot of company's make products for more than one country, sometimes under a different name, but getting a charge that charges at full speed is not easy to find, they are a lot of brands that do not work.
Maybe i should look for iPad compatibility as apple products are notoriously hard to charge at full speed using third-party chargers.
Try the app below, and see what kind of charging speed you get, remember you will only get the fastest charge to around 80% then the tablet slows the current down lower and lower till it hits 100%
You have to manually presw the refresh the free version, the full version is only 50p in UK money.

Thanks for the info on the app! I went through flashing about 6 ROMs this weekend trying to find one that didn't cause such slow charging. Using this app, I discovered it was the cable I was using. I have two original Samsung chargers, and with good cables, they both change the tab at 1800ma. The old cable I had only showed 500ma.

This is what I use, it was reduced to £1.95 so I got 4 of them. I will check it later with the app but it charges a little faster than the one that came in the box.
This is what I get from the charger I linked above.
GTCC, so you get 1108mah not that good, did you give long enough for the average to build-up.
John.
This maybe just a side comment but prior to buying a SM-T00 I owned a Nexus 10. I was going to buy a second charger for my Tab S but tried my Nexus 10 charger and it charges just as fast as the charger that my Tab S comes with. Maybe Nexus 10 OEM chargers are a cheaper alternative on ebay.
