No audible text alert during call? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

This was an issue that was very irritating on the Nexus S, and it appears that the problem is still present in this Nexus. It seems that there is no audible alert to notify you of a text message while you are in a call. Basically if you don't just happen to check your screen then you won't see that you have a text message while you're in a call. The only other way around this is to use 3rd part text messaging software (which I really don't want to do). It would be nice if they addressed this in a future update, though I'm not hopeful they will, considering the same problem was present in the Nexus S.
I posted this issue in the google support forums. Hopefully it can get a little bit of attention.

I have not received mine yet, but the galaxy s 2 has a setting to change this. I don't know if the nexus has this also, but ill share just in case.
Settings>Call>Call Alerts>Alerts on call
Let me know if the settings menu is the same.

No, this setting does not exist in the Galaxy Nexus. I've posted this on the Google Support forum, the more people that post on it, perhaps the sooner Google will get this rectified.

The OP is correct, noticed it myself. Im not sure how i feel about it yet, just wanted to point out that it doesnt alert.

Well I know how I felt about it when I had been on the phone for an hour with my lady and I just happened to want to send someone a message, and I picked up my phone to notice I had a text message that had been there for about 45 minutes that was regarding some money.....I wasn't thrilled about it lol. The same issue was present on the Nexus S and I had to use Handcent so that I could have audible text messages during calls. I don't really want to do that again, as I actually like sms client in ICS. Hopefully Google makes the change if we make sure they know about it, hence the support post in the google forums I linked to.

Phone sending entire inbox.

hey I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this yet, as I can't find any info about this in any forum so far:
Whenever I flash a rom, this issue doesn't show up right away, but it always does, regardless of phone or build. Currently every sms message I send is stuck in a "sending" status on my device. The recipient always gets the message, but my phone thinks that it hasn't been sent. So, whenever I reboot my phone, if I haven't cleared all of my threads, my phone will resend every sent message on my phone. If I flash the same rom on top of itself, it goes away for a few more days, but it always comes back. Again, this is regardless of rom and even phone (D1, Eris, fascinate, DX, and incredible). Does anyone know what could be causing this? At the very least if someone could direct me to the property place to ask this question, I'd appreciate it.

What email account is this happening with?
If its over many phones it could be a problem with the towers around you, try calling verizon about it but get to the to the top of tech support

I don't think it's a tower issue. When I send a message, in handcent there is s spinning wheel next to the message until the phone registers the message as "sent". this happens in it's own way across any and all sms apps on my phone. If I create and send the message in the stock messages app, it will show as sending in my other app and vice-versa. For the record, I have tried this with handcent, chomp sms and go sms.

This definitely sounds like a network issue. Have you tried sending a sms with a "dumb phone" and see if you have the same problem?

No, I haven't. I'll try it tonight when I get home from work. I sent a text to myself last night to test, and while it got to me immediately, it sent itself again 4 hours later. I'm not sure if that means anything significant or not but I'll try using another phone tonight.

This was a known issue with some phones and some SMS/MMS clients. Handcent implemented a fix, not sure about other clients. See this post in android forums for implementing the fix: http://androidforums.com/android-ap...on-without-resending-old-sms.html#post2136469

Thanks for this info!! I'm currently trying go sms again jaded on a reply in that thread, which seems to be working. I want to try the handcent fix, but I don't feel like taking the time to see how well consistently it works and risk text bombing people again. Hopefully some better themes start popping up

Recurrent Text After Restart & LOS

I've noticed that I keep getting this text message as stated on the title heading. I want to know if anyone else is getting this and if someone knows what it means.
this is it:
//LL:1563:1318676860106:Z4L:C:6qR8eSaLlj6bydPLY53tzA==:A0W922K36CJEVHM3QNL3MJ55E053X9HL
I have this message at least 15 times in my sms inbox.
Wow... I'm thank god I'm not the only one...
Edit: slightly different, same format. I've only gotten it once or twice, don't recall the relation to LOS... Though I rarely get them.

I'm only relating it to LOS because I'm paying attention to the occurrence and it seems to correlate. actual cause and a direct relationship is still a question.
I have had mutiple LOS and I have not seen a text like that. I get texts from my wife multiple times though. This is getting weirder by the day.
Driving me crazy. I get LOS but not crazy texts, I get missed texts and my friends get texts I send 3 or 4 days later.
Swyped from my Samsung Galaxy SII EPIC 4g Touch on XDA Premium!
Whatever shortcode "mine was 8737" your getting go to sprint.com and block the code or *2 and they will block it for you...
Edit: Actually that didn't work so its not going over the network.
yeah, mine is from the same short code.
question: do of you having this issue also have visual voicemail not working?
i think it's related to voice mail or google voice mail.
i'm getting the same thing.
Also got it when i was on TP2 and EVO.

Blocked the code and still got the same short code...So blocking the code as well as checking my GV messages and not getting the code its something on the phone. Haven't ran a log yet so have no idea whats causing it but didnt start till I used LOSKERNAL.
FIXED!
i found how to fix this and the reason. basically the issue has nothing to do with LOS, other than that is when sprint voicemail is trying sync after the service restarts. i posted the fix for the problem here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1306721
It is voice mail related. I use GV myself. I don't know how or why it happens or how it is related to voice mail but it is. It happens only soon after a restart for me.

Nice, that works. I just froze Go SMS but same idea. I think it's happening to those of us who never ran the voicemail app and just added Google Voice instead.

Way to tell if an SMS was sent to multiple people?

Over the New Years weekend I got a text from a friend saying something like "Hope everyone has a safe New Years!". From the message it was obvious that it was sent to more than one person. I just happened to be with another friend who also received the same text. He has a Droid 3 and in his Messaging app the Send button changes to Send to All or something of that nature. Is there a way to easily tell if a message has been sent to multiple recipients without looking at the message info? I feel like this would be a huge help considering that replying to those sends a text to everyone who got the initial message. Hope that was clear.

Right I get that. But sometimes a message can seem like it only was sent to you, but then after you reply you find out that it indeed was not. I was hoping for an obvious way to tell, like on the Droid 3 messaging app changing the send button to say send to all.

Unless I'm mistaken, that Send to All is a Motoblur specific feature. I don't think by default that SMS messages sent to multiple recipients automatically reply to all recipients. MMS messages might, but not SMS.
I may have to test it later. I'm fairly certain the replies go only to the sender, though.

I figured that was specific to Motoblur. I like that feature though. Makes it really simple knowing if you received a mass text. I was hoping to find an app or ROM that has this feature as well.

Galaxy Nexus can't receive MMS from iPhones

I'm on a stock CDMA Galaxy Nexus with Telus (Canada).
I can't receive MMS (specificially pictures) from any of my friends with iPhones. I can receive them from my friend that has a Galaxy Nexus as well, but not iPhones.
Doesn't make a difference if it's an image and text or if it's just the image.
Anybody have any ideas? I've done a bit of googling but haven't seemed to find any solutions.
obviosly because the sender it's an iphone.....
i never sent (nor received as my memory work) an mms so could you ask your friend to change the type of the image(like type (png->jpg), less heavy in terms of KBs and dimensio)?

My GF have a iPhlopne (whatever ), and we have no problems with exchanging pictures through MMS. Can your friend recieve the MMS's from your iPhlopne (whatever) friends?
Did you reset your default APNs?
Settings-More-Mobile Networks-Access Point Names-Restore to default.
Had issues with MMS before and this solved it.
Tried resetting the APN, didn't do the trick
I can send them images but nothing happens when they send them to me no notification or anything

Hello!
Registered just so I could possibly help you in your situation.
Did you have an iPhone before you got your Nexus?
If you did, I may have a solution to your problem.
I had the same problem after I got my Nexus. iMessage was the culprit. If you didn't deactivate it properly - other people with iPhones - that had you as a contact still thinks your number is associated with an iPhone. Apple must keep this internally within their servers (just a thought).
This will happen if you PORTED your number to your new phone OR kept the same number when you went to the Nexus.
Anyhow, it's a simple fix - at least for me it was.

What's the fix? I have the same problem as the original poster and I had an iPhone previous to my Samsung Galaxy S2. I cannot receive MMS from any of my iPhone using friends. How do you deactivate iMessage?
now that you mention this, i have this problem as well!!!
Many of my iphone users claim they send something via MMS and nothing is received. We then use email.
You may be on to something here

Download handcent sms from the market and set it as the default MMS app then go to stock messaging app and disable notifications and you should be good to go...
Just to update as I see this has been bumped - I called my carrier and they were able to fix the issue.
No idea what they did but they just had me do a battery pull, sent me a couple images to test it and it worked fine.

Disappearing text messages

I've noticed an issue on my Galaxy Nexus (Stock Rooted 4.0.4, VZW) where randomly a text message will disappear.
I don't have any idea what is causing it and its so sporadic, it happens maybe once every 1,000 texts.
The only way I know I'm even missing a text is if I see it appear in the notification bar but not be there when I go into the messaging app (Using stock messaging) or, because I have mightytext installed, I'll see the message forwarded to my browser but I'll notice its gone from my phone.
I was able to pull a logcat after it happened most recently, so if someone thinks they would be able to decipher some information from it, let me know.
I'm posting because I'm wondering if I'm the only one seeing this issue or if others are in the same boat.
Thanks in advance and let me know if anyone would like some more info...I've been trying to nail this thing down for months now.
You're welcome to put it up on pastebin or something and post it, but I would first eliminate MightyText as the first possible problem. Uninstall it and see if it still happens.
I had the same problem when still on 4.0.2 stock, unrooted. Only ever used the stock messaging app. It happened very sporadic, with the same symptoms you described.
Messages popped up in notification bar but could be nowhere to be found in messages app.
Since upgrading to 4.0.4 it never happened again, or at least I didn't notice.
As you are on 4.0.4 already, that's probably not comforting.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Yeah, it happens so infrequently that I'm not surprised you haven't noticed it since updating, but nice to know someone else has the same issue.
Do you have mighytext installed or can we rule that out as a culprit?
Do you have any SMS Backup applications installed?
If not, I recommend the "SMS Backup +" by Jan Berkel.
Works amazing on my ICS.
Does backups of SMS, MMS and Call Logs (if you want.)
Yes, I do have that installed, but thats not really relevant to the issue I described here.
Thanks.

Sorry - I realized I never finished my train of thought. Got "distracted" as someone walked into my office.
To continue, when your texts disappear from your phone, do they also disappear from your Gmail SMS label?
As per every 1000 texts - I assume you get a TON of texts per day?
I ask - because my cousin who is a promoter also gets/sends 1000's of text messages a week, and he made a funny comment yesterday about how some of his incoming texts "vanished."
He doesn't have SMS Backup+, so I couldn't verify it for him at the time. I'm wondering if you and him have the same problems?
Regards,
var
I also have SMS Backup + installed, but not Mighty text. When a disappearing text arrived, it never even had a time to kick in, even though I'm on wifi and it's said to backup upon arrival. The text is just gone, right after the notification vanishes.
But hard to investigate as it happens really very sporadic... And yup, I get hundreds of messages each day in a developing country, where sometimes also sms are not delivered, so everybody knows and it's not that big of a problem.
