Flash it from ClockworkMod recovery
Use this guide to root:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19465384&posted=1#
Install RomManager from the market then flash ClockworkMod recovery from there and flash the .zip from there
Or just wait for it to come OTA

screenshots showing update size
from all accounts so far, the update has only really made changes to the kernel. so the update would only be small.

I'm stock so I just applied it and it seems fine. No obvious changes. I tried a USB game controller and it still didn't work so I think its just the volume bug fix (although there are alot of patch files in the zip).
I don't know how to apply it manually I'm afraid now we don't have the /sdcard partition accessible via USB mass storage. Could try renaming to update.zip, putting in the root of MTP storage, booting into recovery (hold vol down and power) and see if it can be applied?

Yeah you loose root, but that guide didn't take five minutes to get back root again, when you flash it from cwmr there is a lot of updates going on

Just downloaded from my stock GN, 0.94mb and when I try to open it says Cannot open file. Ah well, guess I have to wait for tommorow.

[ROM] 1 Dec ITL41F [GSM] - Stock ROM image for ClockworkMod

Here is the completely stock ROM image for the GSM Galaxy Nexus, version ITL41F. It is not rooted, if you wish to root after installing use my Superboot. System and boot images are included, recovery and baseband are not. The baseband version for ITL41F is the same (XXKK1) as ITL41D, which is posted in this topic if required.
I know this will be useful to anyone wishing to revert their phone to get a future OTA, to chefs wanting to base a ROM on it etc. etc., so here it is.
To install, flash this update zip via ClockworkMod.
Enjoy!

It's official Samsung firmware.
Thanks for the ROM - this will be useful for many I'm sure
Can I just ask - is there a reason the recovery image isn't included? It seems from recent threads that this is often requested in order to flash completely back to stock, but no-one seems to have one available. I was just wondering if it there was a specific reason why people haven't been posting it?
Cheers
Think I'll have a play about with this in my kitchen - get some practice in for when I get my GN

Bit of an issue, the dsixda kitchen won't deodex the ROM. Any suggestions?

Yes apologies - I reedited my post when I saw that also.
Sorry for cross posting on this thread. Hopefully they will release the new updated version soon.
Although it probably worth a look as it has an autoscript to restore your phone to stock by flashing multiple files.
If your phone is rooted and have CWM, Superuser and Adfree installed and you flash this what exactly happens?
Does it uninstall CWM? if not how do you access it?

is it just me but does cw recovery prevent you from installing ota updates?
I keep getting the alert from Google to update but get the sad hospitalised Droid when trying to install.
If I flash the stock rom but still have cw recovery and root the phone, will the ota updates work?

As far as i know this not touching your recovery. You must lock the bootloader in order to have stock recovery. You must root it again and install rom manager to access it through UI enviroment.I dont know for sure how you can access it with button combination (i think middle volume and power button)

I agree....
there should always be a warning
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dd_(Unix)
It is jokingly said that dd stands for "disk destroyer", "data destroyer", "death and destruction", or "delete data", since when used for low-level operations on hard disks, a small mistake, such as reversing the if and of (input and output) parameters, could result in the loss of some or all data on a disk.

JB OTA won't install- says install untrusted zip? in cwm

I started doing the Google framework force stop and clear cache today while on wifi and was prompted after 5 or 6 tries. It downloaded, verified download, rebooted and TRIED to install. About 15% through, it said untrusted zip and cwm screen popped up top and asked 'install untrusted zip?' Of course I hit yes.. why isn't it trusted? Its straight from the carrier. Anyway it immediately said installation aborted. I repeated this process again and got the same results. Please someone help. Now that JB is finally here my phone won't take it???

If you have CWM flashed, you have to manually flash the update -- it won't install over-the-air. If you want to install it over-the-air, flash back the stock recovery then accept the update.

Gnex Toolkit wasn't working because of some missing file... re-installed it and flashed the stock recovery via Gnex Toolkit (I think). Is there a way to check which recovery is running? Anyway, if it is indeed stock, I just got prompted again for the OTA JB update.. it's installing now.... fingers crossed!!!
..OK so now it rebooted... started installing, got about halfway through.. paused, then it went to the stock recovery screen and stayed with a red triangle around an exclamation point! What is happening here?!
I have now re-locked the bootloader and received the prompt for OTA again....
Still won't work for me. I've tried even flashing the stock image and it won't install at all. Actually nothing is installing.
I've never done anything to the phone besides unlocking the BL and rooting and switching to CWM. It seems to have something to do with the SD mount.. nut then again I have no idea.

[HOWTO] Root Android 4.3 on samsung galaxy nexus

This rooting technique Finally worked you will need three files
1) SDK TOOLS from
2) recovery.img from
3)MRKREHANROOT from
you should have unlock boot loaders USB drivers installed and should be on android 4.3
copy mrkrehanrehanroot3.1.zip in sdcard
be in fastboot mode ie switch off your device and hold both volume up and down and power button together and keep your device connected to PC
Extract the sdktools and place the revovery.img in that folder
then with one finger on shift key right click in an empty space in the folder and select open command window here
then type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
it will flash recovery to your device
in recovery no need wipe anything install the zip mrkrehanroot3.1.zip
and reboot
download any app that requires root access and check for example root explorer
it should ask root acess
in this way you have rooted your device

Titanium Backup is an example of such an app. It may incorrectly detect the path to your internal storage for backups, and thus crash on backup/restore. You can fix this by going into preferences and selecting a folder under /storage/emulated/legacy as backup/restore path, not under /storage/emulated/0.

OK bro if you say I did thank to u but if u had it you should have shared it first and should have had a guide of it and u should have shared I did it because I spent my whole night flashing recovery and finding proper ways to root it finally did it when I found the file so I flashed the recovery the mini SDK tool they are mine but I did not know who to thank for the root so I just mirrored it but I put up a guide here so its not my fault I am sorry that I hurt the sentiments

dude relaxy, if you get worked up everytime someone says that there is another way of doing what you are saying you wont get very far cuz honestly there are always multiple ways to stuff... however i do agree with you chainfire clearly said on g+ that the root method is specifically for the s4 leak.. anyway its upto the users they can either use your method or chainfires.. i will try your method once i flash 4.3 :good:
