[Q] Home process crash few time at each reboot - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
So i have an Xperia Play running 2.3.4 official and recently, at each reboot, the home process service (Sony Ericsson Home) started crashing once and then twice at each reboot. I uninstalled all things i don't use but it still do and i have no idea what's causing it. I did reset user data for this process without change. Hope someone will be able to help me!
Thanks.

C'mon people.. Nobody ever got that here?

Since you've done everything, you could install the latest firmware without wiping user data, failing that you could wipe user data.
I've had this problem before but only when i messed around with the stock launchers settings, if you really don't wanna erase all your user data i could send you a stock home just tell what what version of android you're running
Also if you can get market running install gingerbread launcher, then a root explorer (file explorer) that will help when i send you a replacement home launcher

I thought it's not possible to restore the phone without erasing sd card data? I read that everywhere... I'll add a question there: How do you restore the phone if you can't start it? Just to know, in case...
I'm running 2.3.4, last update for this phone. You want to send me stock home, but do you use Xperia Play too? If not, it would be different, isn't it? About explorer: I have ES Explorer, not enough?

I meant reinstalling the stock rom, since your probably a newbie i'll tell you what to do
1. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1313505
That's where you get the latest firmware
2. Then install flashtool http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/
3. Put the .ftf file in the firmware folder of the extracted flashtool program
4. Run the flashtool program select the .42 firmware from FLASH button, check wipe user data, Turn of the phone, hold back button, plug in usb to computer, wait till it goes green and run flashtool
5. Wait till it finishes, turn phone on, wait... wait... done!!
If you don't want to erase everything on your phone and want stock home launcher it's attached
Root your phone using the latest superoneclick or doomlords one click method found in the forums or google it
Go to market download gingerbread launcher and press home button when it's installed select it and then run ESFileExplorer, Download the Home.apk to sd card, navigate to it in ESFileExplorer, enable root permissions in the app and so the following
1. Backup original Home.apk from system/app/ folder to the SD Card
2. Copy Home.apk from sd card to system/ folder.
3. Set permissions as other system files have (rw-r--r--)
4. Move Home.apk from system/ folder to system/app/ folder replacing original one.
5. Reboot
And off course i have the same phone, why would i browse this phones section????

Thanks, actually i don't want to restore the phone now. I downloaded gingerbread an saved my home.apk file but how do i set root permission for ESExplorer? I've never set permission voluntary to any app, it just ask me when it needs it...
Anyway, i though this trouble might be cause i transfered some apps to the sd card, but still have to find which. And you didn't answer the question, how do i restore the stock firmware if my phone doesn't start anymore, isn't there an official recovery menu?

Use File Manager instead
https://market.android.com/details?...lt#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5yaG1zb2Z0LmZtIl0.
in the app press menu button go to more/settings and select root explorer and mount system folders
hold down on the home.apk when you've copied it into /system and select permissions and change the permissions to the ones i mentioned before
You can restore the firmware if anything goes wrong using either flashtool which i linked to the last post or Sony Ericsson Update Service which you can download from sony's website... if it gets to that point just ask
Also i dont think the moving apps to SD card has anything to do with your problems

Ok i'll try your home.apk soon and will report. Before making another topic and if you're using FPse, how do you get reed of the ****ed up sound? I have a PSP but it'd be more practical to do everything with the XPlay...
EDIT: Just tried your home and same thing happens... Again, two more thing: can i disable the sony ericsson video intro during boot and how to make an app start @boot?

If it's bothering you that much reinstall the OS using my above suggestion if not live with it

Well it's bothering if it format the SD card. If not and i can keep my apps and all, then i ca restore. Just tell me.

If you want too keep your apps you can do 2 things
1. Re-install the 2.3.4 firmware using flashtool, that way you can keep all your apps even ones saved to sd card, in flashtool do not select erase user data
2. Install titanium back and backup all apps + data to sd card, that way you can uninstall everything and restore them later

Yes i was just thinking, but : If i save all apps with Titanium, can it also save my data and restore it? Cause if i just restore with flashtool (or the Sony app on computer, it works too right?) then i would have to reinstall and configure all apps manually, quite a pain. No idea for my other (not related to title) questions? I guess i should create other topics then. Thanks!

Titanium backup can backup and restore data as well as the app you don't have to configure anything except for titanium backup again. you can also use a program called mybackup by rerware to save messages and phone contacts but use titanium for apps and data it's easier to restore

[Q] Can't download Handcent SMS or XDA Forums app

I was told I can download handcent sms to fix a timestamp issue im having (because it automatically displays texts in the order they're received instead of using timestamps). However, I had the program and deleted it once before, but after reading up on it I still have a file somewhere on my phone called com.handcent.newsms, and having that somewhere on there is preventing me from installing handcent. I checked in titanium backup and its one of the files with a line through it (aka-its been deleted supposedly), and my phone has been searching my files using ES File Explorer since about 7 hours ago with 0 progress. Any ideas on where this file might be?
Same problem with the XDA Forums app. Had it, deleted it, but after searching Titanium Backup theres still a file being displayed called com.quoord.tapatalkxda.activity and i'm assuming thats the reason I can download but not install the app. And idea where to find this one?
back everything up, boot into recovery and wipe data/cache. then reinstall everything
ive wiped several times when installing new roms (before i knew i even had this issue).
are you restoring the same rom after wiping? if you wipe then install a new rom there should be nothing leftover to give you issues
nope, ive installed a new one every time (to be more specific- miui, cm6, evozone.pure, evozone.riptide). and ive tried searching for the file on my file explorer and it just stays at 0% (on hour 8 now). It shows the files (the handcent one and the xda one) at the very bottom of Titanium Backup with a line through it.
when you touch that line does it not give you the option to delete it? if it is just a line that means that you have a backup for an app that is not currently installed
nope, and it says that theres no backup for it. it has the yellow sign with an exclamation mark in it next to it, which after i looked means theres "nothing"? this is doing a fantastic job of irritating the piss out of me.
in titanium backup, hit menu then clean dalvik, then reload app list, if still there then with a file explorer go into the titaniumbackup folder and delete the files associated with those entries
cleaned dalvik, still there. and thats the problem, i cant find any files associated with them.

Have you ever copied your SD card to your PC? If so - you can go into the TitaniumBackup folder on your SD from previous manual backups and just reinstal the apk from there... I do that all the time. When I flash a ROM, First I make a NAND backup of said ROM, restore all apps and info (Texts,Contacts,Emails etc) then I do a TB back up and a MyBackUpPro Backup and then I copy all the files from my SD (which will contain all the backups you just made)to safely keep all the back ups you just made safe on your PC...If you dont alredy do that kind of thing, maybe its a good idea to start for these types of problems
hope that helps, if not - I do have the Apks for both apps your looking for - I can email them to you if you want
make a backup of your sd card on your computer, then format it and put only a rom .zip file, wipe everything multiple times, install the rom from sd card
check if handcent or xda will install, if yes, replace the files on your sdcard that you copied before format.
if no you have successfully gotten somebody else as frustrated with your phone as you are
Worked, thanks a ton for the help

[Q] Going Nuts with "Application not installed"

What is going on with this. I am on caulkins el29.
I have just installed it and I wanted to put Digitalclock.apk back on the phone.
I tried one I downloaded.
I tried one that was in my apps backup..
I tried one that was in uninstalled system apps.
Nothing works.
I even tried pulling my external sd card. I tried installing with the cable plugged in.
I tried unmounting and reformatting my sd card.
Nothing will get this stupid app to install. I have now dedicated 4 hours to trying to install a clock.
Does anyone have an idea of what is happening? I am on an epic touch, rooted with caulkins el29

Same thing. None of the apk's on the sd card will install.
I've used root explorer to copy and paste it into system apps. Changed permissions to rw-r-r and sometimes need to reboot.
I have the version from an ics theme that has the green replaced with blue.
If youdd like to try that one I can upload and post.

Well that didn't work... I see a lot of posts from people about this issue, but no one seems to know what's going on.
I don't know then. I'm on Caulkins ICS and have just copied it over.
May be stupid question as I'm sure you've tried everything but did you try deleting the old first?
Sorry it didn't help.
none of the system apks (put in the uninstalled folder) will install.
stuff on the market installs fine.
Gotta get root explorer bro, always works for me use the same method with it and be sure to toggle read/write settings, if not, make sure you have full root access and not partial, you may want to reflash the rom too.
Getting errors while trying to install apks from the Removed_App/system_app folder on the Bare ROM?
Be sure to install them through ADB, root explorer, etc. Don't try to install them by clicking on it like you would a normal apk
Ex. ADB command
Code:
remount rw
cat /sdcard/Removed_Apps/system_app/App.apk > /system/app/App.apk
chmod 644 /system/app/App.apk
chown 0.0 /system/app/App.apk
reboot
Copied straight from Calk.
i have the same issue, some of the stuff from titanium back up wouldn't install, and the same files won't install from the market either.
these are some of the stuff i've tried but yet failed
1. wipe cache and delvic
2. tried on other ics roms
3. formated sd card.
4. rebooted the phone.
it justs says, couldn't install on usb drive or sd card.
I would really like a fix.
it happened ever since I've install ICS. i do not feel like going back to GB
1. because of chances of bricking.
2. because it's a hassel.

Sorry, Titanium Back Up..= tbu.
Open Titanium, menu, prefrences, scroll down to "App Processing Mode"
Once you open it there are 3 choices. Direct, Indirect and a third I cantt remember.
The FAQ for Titanium recommends indirect if you have problems during restore (like it hangs).
Not sure this will help. Did for me on an app so thought I would offer.

[Q] Titanium Backup: restoring after wiping

I have the premium version of Titanium Backup which I have been using for over a year with much success.
I have one query which would make it really awesome if it can be accomplished.
I normally only use it when doing a ROM upgrade. When I am getting ready to upgrade, I delete all my old backups, do a new set of backups on all user apps + system data, and wipe and flash the ROM. Then, when I'm back inside, I go into the Market and download Titanium plus the Pro unlock, and restore the backup.
(First of all, is this what you guys do? restoring all system data shouldn't screw up the features of the new ROM from the old one, right?)
The question is: Is there any way to have Titanium run without having to first go into the Market, find the app plus the unlock, download it, and install it? i.e. If I could just run it straight off the SD card, or install it straight off the SD card without having to use the Market.
Ideally, it would be even better if I could have a startup script on first run where it just restores the full set of apps + system data after I've flashed the ROM.
Is this at all possible?
download or extract from a rom the titanium.apk, put it on sd-card an install the apk after flashing new rom and it´s done.

Never restore system data as it can and has causes issues. It is only advised to restore user apps and data never system data.
As for your other question no not that I know of. Most roms worth anything already include TIBU so all you have to do is install the pro key and run it.
Start Titanium backup
Goto menu/more/create update>zip
scroll down and hit "create update.zip"
when you install a new Rom just use "add another zip" when in Rom manager or 4EXT recovery
Goto SD card and select "update.zip" from root of SD card
Hope that helps

Do you know if it is smart enough to bundle the Pro unlock into the update.zip? I opened the zip file up and there only appears to be 1 APK in there.
Would it be difficult (or even possible?) to manually adjust the update.zip so that it includes the Pro unlock APK?

So I'm returning my nexus for a replacement today. Some kind of battery issue that makes it keep turning off every night:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34923533#post34923533
On restoring, if I understand right, I'm going to move my titanium folder back to the new nexus to the SD card area.
Run my TiBU apk and just restore my apps and associated files.
If I understand right, I Should Not restore my system files right? (Although i did a lot of customizing i was hoping could come right over).
Then when i have it all customized again, I'll back up the new system and hopefully it won't have any issues anymore.
Just an android noob talking it through, sound good?
I'll be installing the rom and CM10 again of course before doing this.

[Q] SD card formated... How reinstall all apps automatically from playstore ?

Hello,
I wanted to update my firmware, unfortunatelly my device was fully formated ... How reinstall all apps automatically from playstore ?
I can see my 156 apps in google playstore.... But reinstall them one by one would be very boring !
Thanks for your help.
Just open Playstore in computer...sign into playstore and click my android apps in the upper right hand corner...there you will see which all apps were installed on your device...jst keep pressing install and things will be installed on to your phone...!!
Hope this helps
kskendsup, that's exactly what he(everyone) DOESN'T want to do. He has 156 apps
I am in need of a similar solution, I just flashed and did a full wipe, but android/google play refuses to sync my apps like it did before.
Is there anyway to automate downloading and installing all the apps listed in "My Apps"? I do have root access.
/sorry for threadjacking
How about downloading an macro recorder or similar program on PC and make it press install in every app you have in play store.
And to prevent this from happening again, use titanium backup. You can even transfer your titanium backups to pc in case of full wipe.
For future reference why not get a backup program like Mybackup Pro or Titanium Backup? Titanium offers scheduled backups and has a lot of other features like only keeping 3 backups, or 1 if you prefer.
To reinstall most apps the simplest way I find is to login to my Google account, turn WiFi on and after a few minutes it starts to restore them. Remember to check the box that asks if you want it to keep your device backed up.
If neither of these are what you want then I don't know what you can do. I normally backup a ROM and the apps separately so I can always recover if an update to a ROM requires a full wipe.
Guys, if I format the CD card, do all system folders get deleted also? Or it'll just delete user data?
The formatting of the SD card means that everything will get deleted but i guess the important folders are made by system again which are required for the system to run...!!

Formatting sdcard alone will not format system and user data (unless for some apps on asec).
Format system and wipe data thru CWM will delete them

Nah it wont brick..unless you totally wipe it through CWM and then no rom is loaded onto it, it would not start but thats not bricking it..!!
If you just normally format your SD card it means only your music n things like that will be deleted..no chance of bricking i guess..!!

[Q] People App deleted accidentally how to re-install it???

My Phone HTC Wildfire S A510e
Android version 2.3.5
HTC Sense 2.1
Software number 2.26.707.2
I have rooted my phone, bootloader is unlocked. I accidentally deleted my people app via link2sd. Now whenever I try to add a contact, it gives an error....
"android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please tell............"
I tried another custome ROM "Wildchild", on that ROM there was no problem adding people, and it was working fine. But I had to switch back to original, so I did. Now I am stuck again. I tried to install the app by HTC sync but there also it gives an error Not enuf space or something.
Have someone using the same rom send you people.apk or whatever it's called, push or manually copy the apk in system/app, fix permissions, reboot.
If you did a backup your stock rom after rooting, Simply restore with cwm recovery.
If not, flash a stock ruu with same radio version & software number.

If you have made a backup with CWM then just restore it and do a factory reset.
I don't think there isn't a way to recover it but if you can just tell me what app it is I can send it to you.
Dude, the easiest, simplest solution is to just grab the contacts apk and push it to system. I don't see why you want him to do a full restore :what:
I tried to push
I tried to push contactsprovider.apk to system, with <es file explorer> it gives error, not copying or installing it.
ANd with other <system apps installer> it shows that it installed it but, after doing with this my phone is giving more errors. , Now I cannot make even a call or see SIM contacts which I was able to do b4.
And about cwm backup,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,, I did take the backup after rooting it and uninstalling the people app.
