Annoying things about Nexus - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

No time on received text messages ?
Half the apps you download dont work it says unfortunately this app has closed. There is bugs to be ironed out on ics.
Why is there an advertisment showing on the screen behind a text msg when you receive one i cant seem to get rid of it.
No flash yet. Phone very difficult to hear even at highest volume and i downloaded volume ± and ringer not long enough.

"Half the apps you download dont work it says unfortunately this app has closed."
Have you enabled force GPU rendering by any chance?

What? All of my received text messages have a timestamp just like the sent ones. There are no advertisements behind text messages unless you're using a 3rd party texting app.

I got no problem with the volume, actually phone calls quality is very good.
+ what advertisment are u talking about ??

Same here. Phone call quality has been excellent. No adverts in text messages.

Not really the galaxy nexus' fault if app devs are taking sometime to opimise for ICS and 720p displays.
If you wanna be the first to get hands on latest hardware/software/combination of the two, then expect some teething problems.

For me, the most annoying thing by far is T-mobile not letting me receive good quality MMS. Everything is small and blurry. Looking forward to learning about a fix here.

Mine has a timestamp. Are you using the stock messaging app or a 3rd party one from the Market?

This is NOT an issue with ICS, it can be (as stated above) that you have "Force GPU Rendering" checked in Settings -> Developer Options, or (more likely) the developers who have made those apps have yet to update their code for ICS (most likely resolution and memory management I would guess).

It is coming, according to Adobe themselves. Although, other than imbedded videos in articles/posts, I find Flash to be as much of an annoyance (ads) as a boon.

I agree that this is not a phone for the hard of hearing or those who work/live in noisy environments...

It has happened before (N1 I think), and is something about how their network does not recognize the unlocked device and uses the lower bandwidth protocols for MMS reserved for feature phones because it does not recognize the device as a smartphone. Or something like that...
At any rate, it is documented (here at XDA even) and has happened before...
T-mo will eventually do whatever on their end, and they will be able to send/receive larger photo files.

Whats hard to understand, he's looking for an app to change the trackball color when you recieve a call or text. Which I dont think is out yet since theres no full root
What the OP is missing in the post is the word notification.
The top battery led indicator (see page 16 of the G2 user manual "Notification LED") doesn't flash as notification of missed calls, e-mail, etc and a fix should be available soon. I contacted HTC and that's what they told me.

One more thing, HTC refers to it as a Trackpad, not "Digital track ball".
See post #31.

Cyanogen has written a file than enables notification. It works for me, but would need to be reinstalled at each reboot.
Try the app noLED. Not perfect, but a decent alternative work-around.

I'd be careful with this...this was made for the amoled screens and it worked well because it only needed to light that small portion of the screen. lcd's are backlit. This has the potential to kill your battery crazy fast.

I love this work-around. I only use it for texts tho, but have yet to see any battery drain.
perhaps i'll leave it on for a while and see if theres any big hits.

Record my dreams

Hi, i'm searching for an app to record my dreaming's words. I would like it to record only when someone talks, is there any chance to find something useful to me?
haha i know what you mean! a voice recorder activated by voice so we dont have 6 hours of audio to look through
The only thing I could find while sniffing around was an app that does sound triggered recording, but only by dialing your voicemail number and recording it to that.
Sounds like a simple enough app to write though, perhaps there's a sympathetic Dev out there that could knock up an app for you.
Lol nice idea is there anythin out there like this? Please let us know if ya can find somethin worth to try

I know what you mean.
My mother will telling me that I can answer her questions when I am asleep, but I can never remember doing that.
What you could do is just use a recorder, and record everything during your sleep. Then copy that sound file to your PC and use cool edit to open it, and look through the sound waves. When you see some big spikes on the waves go to them and see if youre saying anything. Might be kinda creepy though, who knows what kind of sounds you'll pick up lol
RL Watcher , it's in the Market.
That said, not too sure if the microphone is going to be good enough (Thanks to Samsungs settings, background sound is noisy!).
Maybe you should change your Title a bit to attract attention. You are looking at an app that can switch on the voice recording when the decibel level increases beyond pre-defined level.
Any ideas?
PS : This can be helpful in a lot of other situations too. You just need to know the minimum decibel level.
Dreams feel real while we're in them. It's only when we wake up that we realize something was actually strange.
I can access your mind through your dreams using my Android.
I have done a little RnD and made a little progress.
Whenever there is a sound a number is incremented per second of sound.
It works with my galaxy S mic very well.
THERE IS NO INTERFACE AT ALL
I want you to test it.
There is no fear of any harm.
The screen stays on as long as the app is active.
But as you may or may not know a black screen on the SGS is an off screen.
The way to work the app is
Install the app.
Set the phone down on your table/nightstand.
Open the app
Don't click anything
Go to sleep (you don't really need to sleep just speak in intervals in a moderately quiet room/simulate your bed room/simulate your sleep voice)
Hopefully make noise in your sleep. Not very loud noise is needed.
Wake up
Press the menu key...you may have to wait a fraction of a sec.
A notification will give you 2 numbers.
Tell me those numbers.(You can round off NO 2 if you want to)
If first number is > 1 then you are successful else not successful.
EXIT THE APP WITH THE BACK BUTTON
If you exit with another way then you may have to restart the phone to get your mic working fine again(stupid mic implementation of mic on SGS).
Test it and tell me how it goes.

I don't know about that for now.
The app is still in its alpha stage.
We can keep it in a proposed list of features.
Right now the app only lists number of seconds you have been making noise.
The SGS has a weird implementation of AudioRecoding
I am still going through the docs.
Once I manage to implement the recorder, more features will be added.
Please reply with the values you are getting from the app.
Thanks
Gonna test the app now
EDIT: Crashes immediatly on Cyanogen Mod

To those on the new MIUI rom....

Do you also not have the option to wake with the trackball anymore?
Don't know why, but no its not in the new version. Same question was asked in their forums and still didn't get a real answer. I think they're going to put it back in eventually.
I bet if they put their source code out we would have trackball wake.

If they put out source their whole sms system would be forked across all roms in a matter of hours.
MIUI's toast notification of sms with reply is the only reason i really enjoy MIUI.

That's the wonder of open source though. If google didn't make Android open source we wouldn't have MIUI, therefore imo MIUI source should also be open source.

They're shopping MIUI to the big name phone manufactures, seems the most likely to buy it is Motorola, so it doesn't make much sense for them to out their source code.

I think the last few updates have been not steps, but leaps backwards. Each release has another new bug that just drives me up the wall, and its never fixed.
1. notification bar in lock screen constantly has date
2. carrier logo is permanently in notification bar when unlocked/no notifications
3. can't send sms to recipients with "-" in number/camera FC with flash
those are the last 3 most recent releases.

multiple people confirmed it on miui.us, and i confirmed it on my buddys phone with the same 1.5.6.1

An app to sound alarm?

Anybody know of an app that can remotely make the nexus 7 make a noise so i can find it. I know plan B can help locate it after it has gone missing, but i know (99% sure) its in my house, just not sure where
Thanks
If you do this often, you could use Tasker to make the Nexus say something like "Help me! I have fallen and can't get up" when you
send a specific message to the Nexus. This takes advance planning.
If your Nexus is currently lost - no idea. Mine makes a noise every time I get a text message or EMail.
Yeah. I always mis-place my phone and tablet, sometimes losing them for days. I tend to leave my phone on load so i can ring it but doesnt work for tablet.
I have ceberus but my trial ran out 2 days ago so i cant use that
Does anybody know if i unlock the full version online, will it register on my nexus automatically?
Thanks
Found it now was under my pillow :what:

There is an App for that - check out any of the Eliza programs.
Unfortunately - none of them look very good.
There is a financial opportunity here, all you wanna be programmers!
The original Lookout app can sound an alarm. Or androidlost. That one is great, has many many features, and I'm pretty sure one of them is an alarm.
Cerberus will sound a loud siren if you choose to send a command via cerberusapp.com. It's not free, but I think it was one of the better apps I've purchased .

Push notifications from XDA Premium or Tapatalk on 5.1.1 roms

Has anyone noticed that push notifications never seem to work on LP ROMs, or any android rom. I'll make a comment in one of the threads, subscribe to the thread and when I come back I have to sort through 4 or more pages just to find what I last said. Does anyone have any applications that'll push XDA notifications as soon as someone quotes your comment.

I receive them in my email. I'm not sure why though. I looked in my control panel here on XDA (settings & options>edit options) and the only thing I can see that looks like it could be related is a setting that says "Receive Email from Administrators". I use my Gmail address here so they always get pushed to my phone that way. Like I said, I don't know if that's the setting that causes me to get them or not. It's the only thing I can find in there that looks even remotely related though. Maybe check in your control panel and see if you have that setting enabled or not.
It's not the ideal solution for you, I know, but, it does work well for me.

Notifications never seem to work, and I'm not sure if its the app or some other issue. A few years ago, in the hayday stages of the app development notifications were instantly pushed. I wouldn't be surprised if I didn't revieve a notification from one of you. I have to subscribe to the thread in order to bookmark it for later viewing.
