Porting steam recovery - Kindle Fire Android Development

forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881832r
Now in before TWRP is coming, yes it is coming... but when is it coming? I dont know, you dont know, we dont know. In the meantime I remember using steam recovery on my Captivate a while back and it being a touch screen recovery.
So steam recovery from my understanding was based off CWM but added touchscreen integration and some other things. Do you guys think it would be easy to hack it onto our kindle fires, considering that jackpot already got CWM onto the fire but with no proper way to navigate? It would probably speed up development to have a recovery we can navigate through and use while waiting for a TWRP release.
Comments?

that recovery requires a physical back button still, unless itcan get reconfigured to the powerbutton as back.

very interesting!
we can may be modify latest CWM to work like this...

Q. How do I boot into cwm touch rec?

My wife and I swapped phones and I went the qbking77 method. Preserved data and then the cwm/rouge recovery.
It went smooth. Got back into from manager and saw the touch recovery and I have been itching to try it. So got it. Everything flashed smooth. I can boot into cwm touch from the app and made a backup.
Only problem is I can't hard boot into it. It takes me directly to rouge recovery. Really liked the touch recovery. I'm sure its simple. Maybe a new kernel? Really like the way the phone runs now. Just want to boot directly to cwm touch recovery and hoping someone can help me out.
Dude, you are asking to brick your phone. Stay away from Touch recovery, especially via ROM Manager. Read one of the many brick threads around here and you'll understand why.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Ya man, stay as far away from cwm touch as possibly can, use rogue or acs but don't touch cwm touch unless you want some fancy paperweight. Never used cwm touch but I'm assuming it's the same way you boot into any recovery, power off phone then hold the volume up + power at the same time until the sgs2 splash screen shows then release and you'll be in recovery.

Sorry didn't even read the full thread. Most likely your phone was fake flashed with cwm touch, therefor the phone will most likely switch back and forth between rogue and cwm touch or stock, to get a perm cwm touch install the hitman kernel.
You essentially added CWM Touch over Rogue Recovery without getting rid of it. Like everyone else said, avoid CWM Touch because it's known to cause a ton of problems.

OK. I'll leave it be. Touch recovery worked great while I was in there. Made a backup, flashed a zip I made in uot. I believe everyone. Yes it appears to be fake flashed to cwm touch. I'll do some more research on the recovery. I thought it was a kernel issue just wanted to confirm. Thanks everyone.
So the info that I have came across kinda points to the first run of touch recovery and the update might be fine. I am going to listen to y'all until I find some more concrete evidence.

Everything I've seen/heard about CWM touch is bad. I'd stay away from it and ROM Manager in general.
Agreed. Sticking w rogue/cwm. Working well. Thanks for the advice everyone

[Stock Rom] [ICS 4.0.3] Acer_A100_AV041_1.014.00_COM_GEN1

The decoded official version ICS for A100:
Acer_AV041_A100_1.014.00_WW_GEN1
Rename in update.zip. It is put through official recovery.
Can I flash through clockwork at all?

I guess I posted in the wrong spot, so I will post it here. Do we know the procedure for keeping the unlocked boot loader and custom recovery?

I haven't tried this as I'm running cm9 atm but, when I upgraded from the 009 to 012 leak I opened up the zip on my Linux box and took out the boot loader.blob file and any mentions of recovery in the zip, rezipped as update.zip and flashed through cwm, keeping my bootloader and cwm intact
Again I haven't tried this as I'm waiting to see if you can flash over the ics leaks/cm9

Thanks for the information. I am running CM9 also. I would like to test out the official rom for the touch screen fixes alone. Anyways, I guess we wait until someone tries it or we get the balls to try it ourselves.
I flashed this over the 1.0.12 leak and it is much better. Everything seems to work. The touchscreen is now fixed and random stutters are gone.
Looking in the Device information, this appears to be a release candidate? I see it says "RC3" in one of the image descriptions. Are we sure this is the release version? If not, it seems close enough anyway.
Touch screen seems to be alot better than the leaks...i'm going to test some games out to see if they work..
Memory swap trick works as well...so thats a huge plus...
Was wondering why we didn't get the Acer Ring and face unlock? I thought we will get Acer Ring with the official update.

I thought so also...i'm sure there will be a way to get the acer ring on this rom...
I will ty to fix a rom of this version you can flash with custom cwm and that got the ring.
But only if I find some time.
Went on a flashing binge today. Started with cm9 and cmw this morning. Flashed flexreaper r2 from cm9 with no problem.
Saw this release so I downloaded it. Open it with 7zip and removed the bootloader.blob . Used cmw to flash this and the zip without the bootloader. It flashed fined. However, it broke cmw. Once it finished installing, the power button will no longer work in cmw to select. Held down power button to shutdown and reboot. Came up fine with everything working. Reroot with zero null root method. Had to install superuser from market to get root to work probably though.
Tried to reinstall cmw recovery from ad but no luck. All you see when you go into recovery is the dead android with the red symbol. Luckily the touch recovery zero null posted works (ZN you are my hero on this forum).
Crossix's SD swap works fine in this update. Haven't played with it long enough to see of the touch pad issue is fixed.
You can probably go straight from cm9 but be aware that cmw recovery will be screwed up. I have not tried the Thor recovery so i don't know if that works.
Hope that helps somebody.
Edit. Looks like the touch pad issue is fixed. Shadow gun working properly now among other games.

I went from CM9 to this rip after removing the bootloader.blob and the recovery folder. I was using TWRP to begin with so I can't tell you if it messes with CWM or not. All went well, but I ended up going back to CM9. I missed a few of the little things the rom adds.
Whats the verdict on touch screen guys. There's an app called TouchUtil for testing. On HC and all other ICS the touch screen loses connection with your finger. The app will allow you to test this. Test needs to be done with tablet on a table or bed with just 1 finger on screen to test touch. Thanks guys
Heres the issue

I can confirm a few things..
The new Stock ICS rom (coming from a clean upgrade of HC) can be rooted using ZN's method...bootloader using ZN's method works perfect...and TeamWin Recovery works perfectly (so far)...

Is the camera error fixed?
And also, should i just flash this over the ICS leak (rename update.zip, boot into recovery, ect.) Or are there other steps I need to take first?
Thanks

I like TWRP more than Clockworkmod, since TWRP has a more intuitive touchscreen interface, unless CWM has gotten a touchscreen interface as well since I stopped using it.
As far as custom ROMs go, FreeGS3 is a good one built off of ICS. And, of course, you can never go wrong with CM10.

CWM does have a touch interface if you feel like paying an extra $1.99. Or for free if you know how to install an img file.
I havent tried TWRP yet, but I have heard a lot of other people suggest it.
ok so whats the deal with the counter??? i never heard of that on htc phones and thats all i really know.. when u flash a rom on this phone it does something to a counter correct?? and some app fixes it?? never mind i gots it triangle away!!! sweet!

[Q] Which Recovery

Which Recovey Do You Guys Think is Best CWM or TWRP?
I'm using TWRP because it's what I've used on my prior HTC devices and I'm familiar with it. I've read that 4EXT recovery might be available for our phones soon, and I'll switch to that if it becomes available.
Keep calm and flash on...

+1 on 4EXT, That's by far my favorite recovery:good:
Where did you hear that it was coming to the sgs3?
I emailed madmaxx on it and he said he was really busy with allot of other models and he would look into our sgs3's since it's a popular device.
Hopefully we will see it soon:fingers-crossed:
CWM is great, but TWRP is just awesome.
For me, TWRP has these little things that just make sense, like a link to wipe dalvik/cache right after you flash something, option to queue up multiple zips to flash in a certain order, option to compress your backups (because they do end up taking quite a bit of space if you have multiple backups), etc.

I believe I read on their site that they may begin working in it at a future date. I'm satisfied with TWRP, but I'm hopeful that 4EXT is "in the cards" so to speak.
Edit: it appears like they want to start working on the international version of the SGS3. Hopefully we might me able to sway them towards working on the stateside version first.

I like twrp personally. Layouts better and easier to use. Plus it has a built in file manager.
Cwm has the ability to prevent itself from being overwritten after ota update but there's other ways around this.
They are both good recoveries imo, just personal preference.

I prefer twrp (only when 4ext isn't available). I talked to madmaxx82 and he was in middle of a complete redesign/overhaul on the UI of 4ext when started having computer issues. Then he did say we r on the list. I was his beta tester for the HTC Amaze. He prefers the HTC devices so I assume will be doing those first.

If I wanted to switch from CWM touch to TWRP, can I just flash the twrp using goomanager? Also, if I do change do the backups from CWM work fine for TWRP?

Yes, install goo manager from the playstore and install recovery from there. No you will not be able to restore any backup made with CWM in TWRP.
Thanks for the quick answer. I think I'll just stick with CWM for now. I'd love to see EXT for us, I had that for the sensation and loved it and was a bit disappointed to find there wasn't a version here.

I have been a loyal CWM user since MT3g days, then I tried TWRP on my SGS3 and have not looked backed. I love the UI better, everything just seems a lot faster in TWRP to me.
