[Q] Interested In Getting S-OFF and Keeping This Phone Alive? - HTC Wildfire S

Ok. So I am sitting here and thinking. )I know...dangerous right?(
What's the holdup on this phone?: S-OFF and SIM unlock.
What do I own?: An XTC-Clip
What can I do to help get us back into the main forum and keep this phone alive?:
Well. I was thinking about and I thought. This clip is sitting here. I can't really develop but I can test AND I can unlock phones.
What am I proposing?:
To XTC-Clip any GSM Wildfire S that is sent to me for the cost of shipping and handling and the agreement that if you end up with a brick it's not my responsibility.
I'm willing to donate my time to unlock these things, get them to and from the post office and fill out the paperwork to ship them this if it will expand the user base and get us back in business on the main forum until a software S-OFF is found.
Really, when you think about it, the XTC-Clip is and was a development designed to help get the Wildfire S up and running. Obsessing over S-OFF alone while our dev support withers, while we have a current S-OFF solution is a little silly.
Let's just start by doing a poll and seeing who out there would even be interested so I can gauge if I'm on a fool's errand or not.
Please vote for Wildfire S's only. My current interest is in helping keep this forum and Wildfire S development alive.
I want us OUT of this legacy BS.
Here's to keeping the Wildfire S alive!

Actually I really really want CM9 with an official Clockwork recovery. That would make me very happy indeed. Off to test ROMs

This is what I want to say too!
Here the link for xtc clip buy from incredible s (it's huge!!): click

I posted in this thread and it's in my signature now as well. Great idea Henry. Thanks.

My link really works.
I've searched for Belgium, almost the smallest country in Europe, and I've found three people with xtc clip for s-off!
So say thinks if you find my link useful!

Hi Henry, Portugal is much bigger but it seems to be hard to find one single person with a XTC-Clip here. At least in a 100KM radius from where I live, there doesn't seem to be a single clip available.
The only one I found with the help of your link is in Lisbon, 300KM from where I live.
However this isn't the only question. We still can get temp root, so we can install most roms. The problem is that we can't change recovery so backups are out of question. Temp root sucks because it is just a workaround, not a solution.
I would be happy to pay 10-15€ to S-OFF my phone. I just don't want to send my phone to another country, now that it's Christmas time and the postal services work like snails. I need my phone every day and if I decide to S-OFF my phone it must be done "on the hour". I will be glad to pay for it.
Of course that I won't buy a clip just for me because it's still too expensive (with shipping/insurance, etc) for a single S-OFF. If people come to me to S-OFF their devices I don't have the time for giving a decent/quick reply.
If I would have the time I would order a clip and gather the most people possible and would S-OFF their WFS for free, without any problem.
I just want us to rise from the graveyard, called Legacy and Low Activity Devices.
The Wildfire S ROCKS but it needs support. Let's fight for our right!

Thanks to d33ps1x and Henry_1 for the hard work on this thread.
I would appreciate to hear from anyone near Aveiro or Porto in Portugal, that has a XTC Clip.
Please, if anyone that reads this lives in the above areas and can help me get S-OFF, please PM.
If the price is fair I can drive some KM to get my phone S-OFF'ed on the hour.
Would be glad to spread the good news if needed.

I bought mine with the intention of helping others out. That thread of XTC clip owners was where I first communicated with a user who would do it for me.
I figured the drive there...the gas money, etc, I might as well buy it and have it around.

Attention any needy dev....

I have a scratched up Wildfire S that I am willing to donate for someone to figure out how to get s-off without a clip. PM if your intereseted. I'll even ship.
You MUST show proof that you are compitent to try this and not just wanting the phone. US shipping only. Anyone else out there that wants it if a dev isn't interested I'll trade it for a Best Buy gift card valued at $50 and its yours.
I am not trying to sell this (thats what the Marketplace is for...) but I don't want someone triksy just trying to grab a free phone. If you know someone who is working on this, PM and I'll see if they want it.
PM though, would really like to donate this to the "Cause."
L8r,
You are best off contacting Alpharevx team and asking them if they would be willing to work on it. They are the only team dedicated to unlocking the new phones with S-on security.
but unlock it via xtc clip in a shop is not a very big problem...
i´ve unlocked the WFS of my wife with 10€... in a mobile shop..
maybe i´m mistaken but alpharevx reussed to do it...
Alpharev couldn't unlock it. So they stopped trying.

If you unlock it yourself with XTC clip and then maybe donate it to an established developer on this forum so they can join in the development of CM7, MIUI etc.
He want's to donate it locked so that someone could work on cracking the S-on issue. If this issue is sorted then the floodgates are open to everybody, not just one guy that can work on ROMS for a small amount of people.

They barely even tried. If they really want to unlock it then they would.
Maybe HTC put a special lock on the wildfire s that hackers couldn't unlock it. Or wildfire s is a special cases phone that even devs couldn't see it like it never existed.
EDIT: there fumble is that they don't have this phone that's why they do not care about it. Also ROM Manager wildfire s in not in the list.
Very sad indeed!

Old hardware and other stuff, that's why Alpharev couldn't unlock it.
This made me feel a lil better about our device http:// forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18343570&postcount=12
I think the people at HTC know how great this phone is and could be, and don't want it to over shadow their new devices coming out. I don't see the upgrade coming any time this year being so close to the major shopping holidays.
1 more thing, wouldn't it be special if the upgrade came with root access, I mean why just unlock boot loader. They say the reason their not locking boot loaders anymore is for development purposes.
that's their standard answer. already seen it elsewhere. don't expect too much.
Just pmed the op I think I'm might have found something just hope the op still has the phone and accepts to post it to northern Ireland if anyone else is willing to donate a wfs please sent me a pm I will return your handset once I'm finished.

[DEV][THE S-OFF CAMPAIGN] We need electrical engineers & experts in JTAG, OpenOCD!

[DEV][THE S-OFF CAMPAIGN] We need electrical engineers & experts in JTAG, OpenOCD!
DEVELOPERS!
THIS CAMPAIGN IS STILL GOING!
Please try to read the latest posts in this thread if you would like to help!
---
S-OFF is still needed! Don't get happy with your HTC unlocked bootloaders, you have no more warranty! You still can't resizie your system partitions! You still can't flash the hboot, and many other things! You can get your warranty back, if we crack S-OFF!!
Progress so far:
no.human.being said:
Well I basically did a lot of of low-level (mostly hardware) stuff to the phone recently, not so much actual development. I found out how to configure OpenOCD (don't know whether the configuration is any good, since lots of values are more "good guesses" than actual knowledge but at least it's a starting point). I found how to get the board to boot without being attached to the Lithium cell which is not important for getting JTAG access (because this works as long as the board has power supply, being booted is not neccessary for JTAG to work) but will later be needed for tracing through the boot code, since the phone won't boot without what it thinks is a Lithium cell. However, I didn't get the debugger running yet. I suspect that the processor's logic level might be too low for the JTAG equipment. I don't really have an idea how to work around that yet, I might need to build a circuit that boosts the processor's JTAG signal to the appropriate voltage level (a so-called "level-shifter").
Apart from that munjeni and Antagonist42 also seem to make progress, but I must admit that I wasn't really able to keep track of all the things that they were doing recently. So basically we're now down at the actual physical layer and messing around with the electrical stuff that's going on on the phone's board and trying to find a way of actually talking to the processor to get the on-chip debugging working.
The far goal will be getting a patched HBOOT that has signature verification removed loaded into the device's memory via JTAG, then flash a patched HBOOT image via Fastboot. If this works it will be the first S-OFF GSM WFS that's neither shipped S-OFF nor turned S-OFF via xtc-clip, but this might still be a long long way.

What´s the difference between A510e and A510a? I know the A510c is the cdma version
*se-nsei. said:
There are two Wildfire S's:
1. CDMA - A510c
2. the neglected device most of us own - A510e
The CDMA version has been cracked and so has the Virgin model (hasn't got a SIM card slot). People have come very close but always fail and no one knows why.

Hmmmmm. So CDMA and Virgin (Slotless). This concludes that S-OFF is related to your phones network functionality. Perhaps, changing the network mode to CDMA might give us the ability to S-OFF our phones. Perhaps someone with an XTC-Clip could reverse-engineer it. Maybe JTAG.

Can one of the moderators(or if someone who knows any moderator ask them to)PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE post this on Xda-Portal.
Hopefully that will attract more experienced developers and a faster development time.
And while we are at it we can also ask or BEG Team Revolutionary to start their WFS project again to help us out.

3 little things to keep the Wildfire S alive and current...

We need three little things to keep the development and forum for the Wildfire S alive:
1/ Stop obsessing over HTC's unlocked bootloader. We need FULL S-OFF and SIM card unlocking. HTC doesn't care. Repeat after me...HTC Doesn't care.
2/ Shake out your pockets if you can and get your devices XTC-Clipped. For the cost of it vs the effort put into trying to get around it. We need a bunch of S-OFF'd phones and developers to not be relegated to the boneyard. If software S-OFF is possible that will be awesome but in the mean while check the thread about local clippers to hopefully find someone close to you where you can go and get it done.
3/Focus on what we CAN change soonest. Getting back on the main forums. This is the most likely thing to happen with the least effort to keep us current and visible to other WFS users and developers looking for a home.
So get through wasting time on item 1, spend some money on item 2 or chip into the dev process and let's all work on petitioning for item 3.
So check out the threads in my signature and find your local XTC Clip owner and let's get this forum moving.
Thanks to all those still making development efforts and efforts to raise awareness of this great little phone that could.
Cheers.

FYI,the only reason I can't buy an xtc-clip is that I can't afford it, and no shopkeeper even knows what an xtc-clip is!!!It costs around 7000 rupees in India(that a heck lot costly for a 16 year old with a monthly allowance of 500 rupees). I am trying to get it from some guys at XDA but noone is replying to PM'S......Not everyone is lucky in finding or getting an S-OFF.......

Understandable.
Doesn't change the fact that focusing on our own solution will likely pay more dividends then waiting for an unmotivated HTC to do something.
Software S-OFF is in the list. Beg, borrowing, or stealing an XTC clip is in the list.
Group buying of one is in there too.
Essentially anything to get S-OFF users and Dev's to fan the fire under the Wildfire S
Regards,
DS
Agree with csoulr666 on this one. The XTC clip isn't a viable option for many of us. It's way too heavily priced for many of us (about 20% of the cost of the phone itself) and plus, it's not easily available in many countries like India. In fact, people don't know what an XTC clip is!
I'd like to believe in Group buys and campaigns but they don't always work as intended, do they?

So it won't work for everyone but there are plenty of people who it will. It's about raising awareness that that thread and the option to go to someone local like myself exists.
My offer to clip phones for anyone on this forum still stands. I want to see things move forward for us.
Maybe first thing is to get us back on the main forum page now that we have CM7.2 with 9.0 on it's way.
People should research before purchasing the phone then. Gotta understand the risks and what is available before purchasing.
awareness
In all honesty alquez has pretty much put the WFS on the map; no disrespect to any other developers. Having:
a viable [yet unofficial] build of cwm
a viable [yet unofficial] build of cm7
This will, if it has not already, get the attention of some heavyweight devs.
Perhaps they will review and brand it official; perhaps we go on making unofficial stuff until someone notices. I just have to give him a huge thumbs up though when it comes to recognition of our phone model.
Rob
Yeah Alquez is king of wildfire s definetely He is doing so much for wilfire s community...

Love how all the big brains say "search before post"
Some of us have busy lives and done play WOW in moms basement 24/7. What people like us do however is actually donatate to xda because rather than searching first we were making a living. Linux/android as I see it along with the awesome developers and contributers at xda is the only hope for our rights as consumers not to get abused in the future by apple and Microsoft.
I have learned so much here, but could have used a little less from the "find it cause I did" crowd.
I'm not trying to insult folks, just appealing to them to be more understanding to the PEBCAK crowd ( problem exists between chair and keyboard).
We don't need them buying iPhone's out of frustration. Cut and paste a link and pm it, easier and moves mission forward.
Lawyers from apple are preparing for final assault and with back room deals and hundreds of lobbyists looks like they got a chance to enslave us once again. Especially now after apple vs HTC ruling.
Since I found xda:
Realized the business phone systems my company sells from multiple manufacturers are all Linux and asterisk based and probably bound to open licence agreement's which never get enforced
My 4 and 6 yo are learning Linux with me now.
I tell everyone not to be afraid of the terms used, its easy if you can read and pay attention. Words like root, kernal, bootloader locked or not, dba, cmod.... list goes on forever and can be intimidating.
So us noobs will give cash to those that will serve us info we need, we go out w friends and joke how even a noob can do it with ease..... well you get how it can snowball.
Maybe I'm over sensitive today about latest ruling, and the way it stinks of deception, but it means alot to me.
My kids friend doesn't have internet cause parents can't afford it. Chances are that child won't do as well as mine simply because playing field isn't even. Why because of comcast lobbyists keep low cost internet from them through bribes done right in open.
Its all around us now, we need our devs, the accountants, housewives, and even long winded folks like myself.
Hope apple lawyers get aids from the tranny hookers they hired for the celebration of last ruling.
Peace and love to everyone else.
Ps: One last note to the "search for it" guys, I know this is the wrong thread! Go slam another code red and jack like a lab monkey to vids of chicks I actually can get. And my bots can beat up yours.

Probably 10 seconds more than coming back on this thread to check if someone answered your post....
10 seconds man...
ahahahahahhaahhaha, wtff
Where I do see your point in that well crafted reply I'm simply stating that not everyone is created equally.
An example would be me being able to search Google with faster with better results than most of my colleuges. Rather than use the "all capital shout" and make them feel stupid I would just forward the link to Google bolean algorithm tutorial.
Would you like the link?

And really not looking to insult anyone.
I use my "inner geek" and social skills to advance open source products to people less informed and nervous to make changes.
I'm probably responsible for multiple donations from people who would otherwise keep "the man" fat and happy.
My contribution might not be technical but still is valuable. That entitles me to an opinion.

already found it last night, after 20 minutes of manual searching each posts. I already did what you all said and suggested, even using google. everytime i searched it always show s-off without xtc clip, or wildfire, not wildfire s, so if you have a brain and think for a sec why would this dude ask for help, then maybe you would have found out that it was not easy to look for some specific answer to your question. Not one of you did even posted a link, which you were saying was easy to find.
you don't root using XTC clip, you S-off your phone with your XTC clip...
once you're S-Off you can root it using the tutorial you can find easily here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1325730
here's a pictorial guide for xtc clip
For s-off with xtc clip... Lots of them out there... Here's one I found.
For rooting... I use an app called un-rooting from the market. It's quick, fast and allows you to unroot as well.

Your phone costs $700 stock. Is $25 really too much to ask for to s-off and give you full access and to mod to your hearts content?
That being said, do you really need s-off?
Do you really need it?

I have two options with s-on: either somehow find an old ROM for my old firmware or bear with the 2+ minutes boot time. So yeah I really need it.

Well, if you REALLY need it, pony up the $25. If it is something you REALLY need, Then $25 isn't too much to ask for.
Sorry if I'm coming across as an *sshole, but for real dude.

I understand and I wouldn't be all sore about this if everyone either got it for free or paid the price. Since, as I said, there are people that got away with firewater before the patch, it's a bit unfair from my point of view.

Well that's called life......lots of unfair things happen, third world countries, wars, animal cruelty
If i have the choice i would gladly choose the unfairness of $25

Good for you guys when you work on your own and 25$ is nothing but pocket change, not so here in my, you could say, third world country...

I'm going to repeat this.
Do you REALLY NEED S-Off? S-On is a better choice unless you want to downgrade your firmware or get into settings that I can guarantee you don't want to touch with what I assume is your limited knowledge with the /system partition

I never said anything about it being pocket money here, and i am certainly not here to discuss a third world country. Everybody has his reasons why they do or simply can't afford it.
This whole type of discussion has been done several times now and it doesn't change the situation one bit unfortunately.
So i would say stop thinking and writing about it here as it's not helping you at all (not saying you can't give your opinion but this always ends the same way)
Get the money for s-off or stay s-on ! That's the only option you have.
Well you guys just went full on me. Sorry for 'spamming' the topic and have a good one.

Ah no, just being honest and straightforward with ya, not to bash or anything but this is how it is and it's not going to change.
Cheers.
