'Original' battery bought through ebay looks counterfeit - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Accessories

Hi, I bought a couple of batteries through ebay that were advertised as being samsung originals. The seller is from Hong Kong and has very good feedback rating.
Interestingly, inside the package came the two batteries I ordered wrapped together in a small bag marked as 'original'. Along, inside the same package came another battery in its own small bag that was marked as 'copy'.
Upon closer inspection of the three received batteries I can say that the third one, the one marked as 'copy' looks as if produced on the same batch as the other two, the only difference being that its label wasn't applied properly as it has a bit of slack.
Now, comparing the three received batteries against the original that came with my phone I found some clear differences. See the picture below.
The first of the received ones is still charging in the phone. I haven't noticed any overheating or anything unusual. I think it will take some time to notice any performance differences though, I'll try to remember and report them here.
Am I right in thinking these are fakes? What do you think?

How much did you pay for these batteries? Real OEM replacement battery should look like this,
I would only trust the sellers on eBay that is from Korea.

The ones I got didn't look like those at all. It looks like I was sold fakes. I paid $79 usd per each I'm still waiting for a reply from the seller before I post negative feedback.

Are you able to check the weight difference compare to your OEM battery? I have read that China fakes have a smaller battery packed inside and will weight a few grams lighter.

This is actually a brilliant idea. Haven't thought of it before but it makes complete sense. Original batteries should weight exactly the same and different than fake ones.

I don't have a scale but I feel they weight about the same. I just spent a few hours testing one of the fakes and they do have decent performance, I'd say about 10% less than the original.
Still waiting for the seller's reply... funny thing: he does have another listing for the same battery and he includes pictures on how to tell between fakes and good ones so that means he is aware now. I'm still giving the benefit of the doubt here.

Yes currently only we Korean sellers have original batteries.

so anyone can confirm that this korean seller sells GENUINE battery or does someone have a link to another Ebay seller with genuine batteries?

The guy in HK I'm dealing with (yqmama) has apologized for having sent me "B-class" batteries and has now sent me a couple of "Samsung-Original US model" ones. I guess it will take another two weeks for them to arrive. Will be reporting here when they do.

You have 40 posts and I'm 99.9% positive that you work for one of the your country's sellers like SGP.....
I would generally disregard sellers that promote their own products.
Anyways, that South Korean Seller has 99.2% feedback and 215 sales, which is crap.
I found a nice OEM battery from a USA SELLER for $30 free shipping and he has
99.5% feedback and 8300+ sales.
You do the math. Instead of taking the word of a South Korean Sales Rep, look at the stats

I just ordered the battery & charger pack from se*stage, Korean seller on ebay. It is listed as GENUINE. $62.99 US. Hope they are not fake ones. It's a little bit risky, there are not many feed backs for this seller yet. I'll report back how they are when I receive them. One of the reasons I ordered from se*stage is I need charger too.

I knew the US seller has much much better feedback. Just can't wait that long to get it. The US seller uses "USPS First Class Mail International", and the Korean ships with Fedex. I'm in Canada. It takes about one week with Fedex and at least two weeks by USPS. Plus, I need charger too. Anyway, I will warn everyone in XDA if the Korean ships me counterfeits and report to eBay.

so is the item you're talking about sold by trendzzz?
the print quality of the word 'samsung' looks just like the knock off from gnz's very first post in this thread.
and it looks like it doesn't have the same polarity etching as gnz's original battery
This is all i have to go off right now as my phone hasn't arrived yet (praying it comes today lol) Will check my own original battery and compare when I get it.
just posting this in case someone jumps at buying the Texas battery without looking carefully.
I'm thinking the QR code on the battery could somehow be used to verify its authenticity? Dunno if a consumer can take advantage of this or its just something samsung can do to verify their batteries.

Another Korean eBay seller just posted the OEM battery for $31.99 which is what is supposed to sell for! I'm sure this is OEM since he sells all Samsung OEM accessories. shimshop.
I'm ordering the charger stand and battery!

1650mah ORIGINAL Samsung batteries now available

Hey all,
As you know the Galaxy S 4G, Giorgio Armani, and a few new Galaxy S phones all have 1650mah batteries that fit in our VIbrants perfectly.
A person in the I9000 has located a store that sells them and is now relisting them on ebay in batches of 5 every one or two days.
If you want a replacement battery, this is a GOOD one. It offers 10% more juice over the stock battery you have and fits WITHOUT any additional battery cover or anything. It is original straight from Samsung
Price is 26 Euro which currently translates to $38.50. It is shipping from Europe.
Enjoy. I just bought one

Yup. Most of the China made batteries are much more cheaper than this & have better capacity. However, some are not in full capacity as listed but some are like Yoobao, Kingmax & Momax.
However, I may get one Samsung Galaxy SL battery 1650mAh in my place here for around USD15.00 only. I bet it can fit into our Vibrant.
Where is that you are getting the 1650 mah battery for $15?

Yup. I got the offer from one of the mobile phone shop here. However, after double check with them that the Samsung Galaxy GT-I9003 battery can't be fixed into our Vibrant due to the size is a bit thicker. Same as GT-I9003 thickness is more than Galaxy S GT-I9000 & Vibrant. No luck I guess.
Please confirm that you can charge the battery. A lot of other batteries, from the 4G or Fascinate, for instance, will work for the phone, but will not charge.

Dang! Nice find there. That seems to be original which is good.
I'm thinking of creating a group buy for these. I already have mine and it's great so I will either a. Buy 10-15 and resell them invidually on ebay for around $15-20 with the shipping included or b. Get orders here and split the cost.
That is if enough people are interested of course.
Just a quick note, that site has 2 batteries.for the sgs 4g with one being aftermarkwe(the one for 8) and the other being oem, which os.on the site for.20. Anyone know what the difference is between them?
I am in for a group buy, but like some one mentioned will there be a problem to charge these batteries in Vibrant?
No. The batteries WILL work correctly for charging.
get 3, a laza wall charger and you will never plug it in again ...except when transferring files

No offense, but I'm almost totally certain that this is not a Samsung original battery. The Spanish translation is absolutely wrong and literally makes no sense. Compared to the factory battery, which is correctly translated, it is glaringly obvious. Samsung has better translators in Spanish than the Chinese factory that cranked out these reasonably convincing fakes. They have improved the look of the label itself, but the tell-tale faulty translation is still there verbatim from the Chinese fakes that I bought myself.
Well you are wrong. This is from the i9000 forums. The guy is a regular xda member there. Pretty sure they are legit.

Well.. I have to ask the obvious question:
Is this guy from the forum fully bilingual and has he personally examined the point? I have both batteries myself, so I speak from experience, and it makes no difference to me on a personal level, but what I'm saying simply is true. The fakes are poorly translated. The factory originals are correct. I'm not trying to pick a fight. Just a public service announcement, so to speak.
I don't think they are OEM batteries.
Why don't these batteries show how many mah they have?

That's one of their multiple flaws which distinguish them from the originals. I think, as I recall, the do have a rating, but it's not accurate. They also should have a serial number, but these are fake also. Both mine are identical in serial number. Like I said, I'm not looking for a fight here. I'm simply trying to make sure that anyone who buys this knows what they are getting.
I bought two and complained about my list of problems, which I've not enumerated in total in this thread, and they were rather minor, considering the price, but because the item was falsely portrayed as Samsung, the seller refunded my purchase price, plus shipping.

yea, i just bought one i will see how works
On the captivate forums a user bought a few of these different mAh batteries and did tests with some battery meters. None of the batteries did as well as the stock OEM batteries. Even known "good" brands like Seido didn't do well. The higher capacity batteries never did as well as even stock batteries and the cheap eBay batteries that matched the originals did really bad.
If i want an extra battery i will just buy it from AT&T or Moto - or somewhere that i know the one i buy is genuine.
i bought one today too
I asked the seller:
Does the battery fit in the original battery-case?
here is his answer:
his is andida battery. It is better than the original battery thick only little .do not worry,it could be use
Do you think it will fit?
I looked and it seems to me like there's not really room for a thicker battery....
Make sure to check out the seidio battery...that might be a good one.

I would be very wary of any battery that is any thicker than the original. If you have to press harder on the cover to get it to clip on with the thicker battery, it could be physically stressing the circuit boards or other components.

[Q] Are these batteries original..?

I have recently bought 3 batteries on eBay sold as Samsung original "bulk" (without the blister). The stock one which I got with the phone says "made in Japan" and weighs 33 gr. these other ones say "made in Korea" and weigh 27 gr. so the question is: does anyone know if original batteries are made in Korea too and how much they weigh?
TIA!
If they are not the same weight or less they cannot be original
That's what I was thinking too but was looking for confirmations..
My original battery is made in Korea and finished in China - weighs 32.8g
The supposed 1800mAh ebay battery (1400mAh hour from online testing) - weighs 29.8g
It appears your Korean battery weighs less than my original and also my cheap ebay battery which is a surprise.
Oh yes forgot to add: all of them say "finished in China".
Anyway what's still making me unsure is that these batteries come from a reputable eBayer who is also selling lots of (for sure) original Samsung stuff. Moreover, other reputable eBayers are also selling the same "bulk" batteries...
They are selling for € 15 compared to the other ones coming in the blister which are going for € 19.90. I would have much more happily bought these other ones but they were out of stock anywhere the moment I bought mu SGSII and now I am not sure what to think about (and what to do with) these batteries.....
Sheesh..

I asked about Korea because shouldn't original batteries being made there too it would have been a first sure indication of it being fake
Anyway, apart from the weight there are a couple of subtle differences between the 2 series of batteries but I am not sure they are clearly visible from the photos.
The connectors are slightly different (a bit narrower on those "made in Korea") and the stickers on the batteries have upper corner cutouts on the stock one while they have not on the "Korea" ones.

The one on the right?? The one on the left is the stock one which came with the phone in a sealed package and which weighs the apparently "correct" 33 grams!!
Anyway, I have contacted the eBayer and I am sending them back at my expense and buying 3 new ones in blister (which he now has available)
I've seen authentic Samsung batteries for the Galaxy S2 made in the following areas,
Made in Korea
Made in Korea, Finished in China
Made in Japan, Finished in Korea
Made in Japan, Finished in China
its all about supply and demand
From what you posted, what you purchased seem to be legit to me.
I would never recommend buying any batteries off eBay whatsoever your very likely to get burned.

Amazing! You were right all along. The original battery that came with my phone made in Korea is exactly 33 grams! And the spare original battery I bought from a local store where they offered 6 months warranty is also 33 grams. I kinda doubted the store (although there was warranty and it came with retail packaging wasn't cheap though - $47) but now I believe them!
Edit: Both made in Korea finished in China. Finish and build identical (the one that came with the phone and the spare).

And just to add more confusion, my 33 gram original Korean (finished in china) battery label looks the same as the one on the right in your picture, although this is a possible design change unlike the 6g lighter spec

I did not give much weight (pun intended ) to these cosmetic differences. These are, after all, "internal parts" and design changes happen all the time and cosmetic differences are almost a given when the parts are from different sources..

that's the thing, 6 grams over 33 are a "major" spec change if it was genuine. Imagine being able to tout an even lighter SGS2.. That new POS iPhone 4S is just 3 grams lighter and they are advertising it as "faster, lighter ecc"
Point is, specs like these don't just change this much from one factory to another.

where do you suggest me to buy them from then?
Search XDA and see where people get their batteries. Tons of people on XDA bought them on ebay. OEM and even NON-OEM batteries work without any problems! Search and see for yourself.

I couldn't agree more, I've been burnt so many times on ebay for things like batterys and chargers. They're almost always cheap knockoffs (even if they say they're not). At the best they'll last 6 months, at the worst they'll catch fire or give you an electric shock (for chargers at least)
Its worth paying the extra from a reputable online store

If you're buying batteries or stuff from eBay, avoid Chinese sellers. They are not OEM and most of them can damage your phone and some dont even fit! Look for sellers in Canada

Thanks for suggesting that website. I've spent far too much time myself on eBay trying to locate a decent, slim battery. I learned from experience, pretty much not to buy batteries on eBay, after some time and money.
Appreciate the comments, and thanks to the OP for making this topic.

OEM battery on eBay

Any chance these are legit OEM batteries? Two OEM batteries for $16 seems too good to be true.

It is too good to be true. EBay is crawling with fake "OEM" batteries with a sticker that looks exactly the same as the real one. Makes it almost impossible to tell from a pic. If you want a "real" OEM battery, you need to get it from a known good seller. Shimshop on EBay sounds reliable from reports here. There's also Expansys, they likely have the real deal. The pricing I've seen is about $30/per for the real ones. Much cheaper and it's probably a fake.
i was thinking these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-OE...ccessories&hash=item2a18a7b669#ht_4442wt_1247
looks legit but who knows.
Also newegg had some but I don't see them now.
I've been using the bargain-basement eBay China batteries in everything from DSLRs to cell phones for like 7 years. They never work quite as well as OEM but at 10% of the price for 90% of the performance I don't care.

Its funny you posted this. I ordered 3 of them with charger and got them a few days ago. They are not OEM however they actually work pretty well. I sent seller email before i bought them and was told in his own words they are OEM samsung batteries.. I did this so when they were delivered i would have proof that seller was stating the fact they were OEM... I knew however for 14$ there was no way they would be real. This way when I contacted seller to complain i would have a leg to stand on. I sent him and email stating that they were fake and that I wanted to know what they were going to do about it and 1 hour later a paypal refund for the full amount was issued. These guys know they are selling fake stuff however unless you have a trained eye and know what you are looking for it would pass as an OEM product. For the price.... They are good batteries...lol.. To be honest i would have gladly paid the money if the seller would have come clean on the matter.. I will take pictures and post them when i get a chance..hope this helps....cheers
I took pic of all 3 with charger and a pic with a real OEM next to the eBay battery...can you tell the difference? lol... Oh and pics were taken with my Nexus so please excuse the quality...
The "original" ones on eBay IMO are fakes. Also the typeface used on the label definitely doesn't match the OEM battery that comes with the phone. I would avoid them and buy from a trusted vendor like Expansys or Handtec.
If you email the sellers of these real, but fake batteries, they will quickly say they made a mistake posting and the batteries are not genuine... I hate when sellers play games like that.
We should all mass-purchase these "original batteries" and demand refunds at the sellers expense, just to teach them a lesson. It's not right to knowingly scam the public.

Agreed. Usually you won't go wrong if the seller has included "genuine" in the listing. Be careful when they don't include that word. That's common ebay sense.

I go to Shenzhen and HK regularly, and I've been in the shanzhai/jiamao markets there and they have booths with blank batteries and the stickers that look almost exactly like all the major brands, they will make you up 100 or 50 or any qty you like on the spot. When they sell a counterfeit battery they always include a charger.....guess why? They caution you not to charge that counterfeit battery in your phone, it might explode or catch fire!
So they always sell the charger with the battery.
NO WAY would I put one of those P.O.S. in my phone.
They are tempting though.
PS: Not claiming accuracy in my pinyin terms but you get the idea

Yeah ..i was pretty sure when I bought them that they were fakes so when I received them I was not so surprised.. I did however get 3 batteries and a charger for free..lol...They are actually pretty good...They don't heat up and seem to last as long as the original. They are about 90% as good as the OEM as far as discharge times. Overall I am quite happy with them...And for the price I can't go wrong..
Damn I wish I had seen this the only way I knew was that it was fake was the NFC didn't work.

I've been using ebay batteries in my G2 for a long time. For the price I'd say they are worth it. I had a 2200mah evo 4g battery from ebay in my G2 for over a year and I just recently had to replace it because it wasn't holding a charge quite as long as it used to. When I first got it, it would easily last a day, which was something the stock htc battery couldn't do. Now I have an extended 3500mah battery I paid only 6 dollars for and I can get 3 days off of a charge. I have a 2300mah battery on order for the nexus, I'll make a review thread and let you guys know how it does.
