Pretty basic, the usual hold home and power at the same time.
Just thought id throw it out there for someone that may not know about it.

I actually discovered this before I learned a lot of android phones can't do this, I just used the same combination as my previous iPhone. Good to know for others, though.

5 more days!!!! such an agony waiting for 5 more days for it to arrive...
We really, really need more posts like this that highlight the good vibes about this phone. I've been reading through this forum and most everyone is just posting about problems they are having.
Monday is when my phone will arrive. I can't wait to see how it compares to my Sensation 4G!
As I just posted in the "Would you buy it again" thread, YES! I have had none of the problems some people are complaining of. Naturally, if you are having an issue, you are more likely to post about it, whereas if everything is running smoothly, you're too busy enjoying your new phone to post about it.
So far this phone is excellent. I just picked mine up today from T-Mobile and I'm loving every minute of it. No lag, super fast (both data and OS), very decent camera, GPS locks surprisingly fast, gorgeous large screen (minus the resolution which I don't really notice) etc. I would definitely recommend this phone. I am coming from the Sensation and I do not have the wifi death grip issue and 4g signal seems excellent.

couldn't be happier. I busted the screen on my SG1 about a month ago (crack down the screen but still operational) and have been waiting patiently for this. Can't wait for root so that i can get rid of all the bloatware.
This is my second day with this phone and I honestly love it! The last phone I really enjoyed was the MYTOUCH 4g. I had the nexus 1 (cool phone), Samsung vibrant (Boooo bad Samsung and carrier support plus lag), then the MYTOUCH 4G ( best single core phone ever hands down!) than I tried windows 7 and got the HTC HD7 (very nice experience, now with mango it should be great) , than got the sensation 4G ( very disappointing experience considering it was my first dual core phone, laggy, returned 3 phones. Thanks to the devs my experience with it was good before I sold it) and now the T-mobile Galaxy SII ( best phone I've owned so far). This phone is awesome. I took it to my job today and let my coworkers play with it ( people who have no knowledge of specs usually give you honest opinions) everyone says the screen is incredible, the phone is big, it's very fast, it's light and thin, it feels cheap ect... Bottom line is this phone is awesome. The screen resolution is not a deal breaker at all it's not even pixelated. I'm glad they got rid of the pentile.
Im ocd and ALWAYS find something i dislike about every phone. The only thing i dont like...cant change the ugly ass lockscreen image
This phone is sweet and im loving the 10+ Mbps data speeds i get now. I havent had a single issue yet and havent put it down since i got it.

I'm definitely interested in taking Ubuntu for a test drive, but I do have a few concerns:
1 - There is no lock screen, but the phone is still somehow secure. I don't feel great about that. Having a lock screen in place gives me the added peace of mind that if my phone is lost or stolen, I know that my data will be initially secure, and will probably remain secure until I remotely wipe the device.
2 - I'm not sure how I feel about a completely gesture-driven device. I had the original Palm Pre at the time, and I didn't find myself using the gestures unless I absolutely needed to (i.e. closing out cards, going back in the browser, etc.). Thankfully, the phone was a hybrid of gestures and physical hardware buttons. There won't be any hardware buttons on any Ubuntu phone.
3 - The device unity selling point doesn't sell me. I'd never use my phone as my home computer. My desktop and laptop are far more robust in terms of capability than any phone, and I'd rather just use those.
4 - I'm having a hard time believing that desktop-grade applications will run smoothly on a phone. Sure, developers will be encouraged to bundle a mobile interface, but I'm not sold on the notion that someday in the near future I'll be playing Portal 2 on my phone.
5 - The home screen looks crazy. I'm not a huge fan of the hodgepodge that will be files, media, and apps strewn about the home screen. In hindsight, I like the process existing mobile OS's take to reduce clutter. Open the app, then open media recognized by the app. That process keeps things clean.
Ubuntu isn't exactly easy on the eyes, either. That magenta-y, orange-ish theme is hideous. Even the font that they use sucks. Undoubtedly, however, that can be fixed through themeing the rom. However, I love stock rom experiences, so I know that a theme would irk me. Just my OCD, I guess.
It's core strength is multi-tasking, of which I'm very interested in. It seems to be very intuitive. I'd love to play around with that.
Web-based apps on the phone are definitely intriguing.
I didn't really care for the dig that they made on Android regarding Java. Java was put in place for rapid application development. On lower-end phones, I can see a Java environment being overhead on the operating system, but with my Optimus G, it hardly even knows its there. The OG is a beast.
I'm definitely going to be paying attention to the developments made with Ubuntu Mobile. I'll be dusting off my GNex when the image does get released.

LG Optimus G v. Samsung Galaxy Note II

I have had the opportunity to use both of these phones and I just wanted to take the time to discuss what I have found. This is purely for an informational basis for people who are average users who are trying to decide on a phone.
Which is easier to root?
I am not a developer but I have a few friends that are and they have always rooted my phones in the past. With both of these model's I choose to do everything myself an untrained noob if you will. The easier phone to root I would have to say is the Note II. Although developers have done a great job with the Optimus making it a one click a toolkit is literally idiot proof.
Development communuties?
Their is a distinct difference between both communities although the Note II has more development the developers are far more willing to work with you then the Note II devs. The LGOG wins hands down.
Overall phone performance on stock ROM?
LGOG wins hands down the Note is huge but that's not is biggest down fall. I love using my phone with one hand as do most who will read this so functionality is one challenge that the Note can not compete with. Although the Note 2 come out of the box with JB and the LGOG is still stuck on ICS it is also future proof as us the Note 2 but ICS is all hella fast!
I think the LGOG is the best phone for your money on Sprint! If you have any personal questions about the phones or anything like that just PM.
Thanks and I hope this helps anyone on the fence.

Hello And thank you for your review. I want to add a little to what you wrote because you started on the consensus of the average user.
I am not writing this to Discredit anything you wrote..
So to try and Make My opinion as least Biased as possible I will leave the development Aspect aside - To even start to compare the number of Devs or even the development done on the devices is not only far out weighed by any Galaxy III/ Note 2, but there are also set conditions that played a Role in Development. A lot of that Has to Do with the Companies themselves.
Having literally owned every Top Sprint Device. I will start on more consumer based experience. To be quite honest even that will be hard for me to do so my post may be slightly opinionated as well.
More people are probably going to gravitate towards a galaxy product not only based on marketing ALONE FIRST AND FOREMOST.
Both LG And Sprint Spent Little Time marketing the Device. A big part of this has to do as to why there is a certain amount of development from one device to an other.
Elaborating on the stock Features and hardware of the devices having DONE NOTHING to both devices. To the average consumer again this is a superfine line. Again You can go by stock specs alone, but does that mean much to the true AVERAGE user who absolutely does nothing to there phone is going to notice any difference at all. To really be honest no the average user isn't going to even notice the hardware differences at all. In fact a average consumer may be not only drawn to a product alone for marketing but there are other trend factors. (I would not even began to compare stock camera performance!)(Removable Battery) ECT.
One may like the Optimus for the Build Quality/Looks/ ( Screen IPS Display, which again is Consumers opinion as to what picture looks better)
Strictly "consumer" again Customer service between both companies - "In My findings personally" I feel that Samsung reps have better customer service skills and product knowledge. ( Dont want to elaborate why, thats a page in it self 'Thats Why i said personally")
Software updates - Having an every top of the line Samsung android phone on sprint since the Moment - I have seen not only dev grow but Samsungs Commitment for updates! (Trust me it was BAD!) - Having LGs press release saying that it was to debut with JB - is a little let down! But lets hope its around the corner super soon! (im sure t is!!)
Having literally every top of the line android phone from SPRINT -from HTC ----LG...I would say this phone has its Niche with us NERDS!!!
THAT IS FINE WITH ME!!! I feel people appreciate this device for its sexiness and performance which only US NERDS can really understand and began to appreciate in this device!!
Again I dont mean to discredit what you wrote because it is valid and im sure many people feel the same. I was just trying to provide a more general over view.
You are fine I just love the opions I love the optimus g this was nothing against it. Love to see where development is going. I will be back on it soon!

So no one has had the problems I've heard with the Optimus G? Like weak vibrate, poor phone call quality, poor signal, etc? I'm trying to decide which phone to switch to (I have the Note II but I think it's too big) and I thought the Optimus G would be a good phone to switch to, but I'm a bit worried because of all the problems I've been hearing about.
I'm all about the awesome hardware in the phone, but if the phone just doesn't work well then you can have all the processor speed you want and it'll still be a bad experience. :/
I have had uses with my mic (poor call quality) but it was different on different ROM's. Like the lifeless ROM so all was good.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
So a custom rom would help make it a better phone call experience?
My concern is your rooting method...
I have the optimus G and i can say, in terms of simplicity, rooting this device was the easiest device ever to root that I've had. seriously, like 7 commands in a terminal, a button press on the phone, and it rebooted with perm root. NOT difficult at all.
It helped mine

I just got my LGOG and I love it so far but I still can't decide if I want to keep it or swap it out for the note 2. The only thing that is making want to switch is the fact that there are way more roms and dev on the note than there is on the LGOG. I've always had HTC before and there is tons of dev over there. My question is do y'all think that that there will be more roms and etc. In the future? Or should I just switch to there note 2? I only have 3 days left to decide.

The roms will come, but there's no way im downgrading my hardware. Exy4412/Mali400 is last gen. The S4 pro has tons of potential and a bit more future proof.

No disrespect to the devs over at the sprint Note 2 but all of the roms look the same. Only ROM worth having is jellybomb rom. And CM10 is still at alpha stage.

Samsung Lock Screen Bypass Exploit

I'm on Domination TW Rom which is stock based. This doesn't work. I can see it quickly flashes the Home screen but it goes to the lock pin entry screen immediately. Pressing the Power button right when it flashes the home screen doesn't work either. Maybe Samsung fixed it in 4.1.1 or the awesome guys at Domination fixed it.

This is not an exploitation of lockscreen shortcuts. This an exploitation of a secured lockscreen and bypassing it completely. This means the shortcuts are irrelevant because they can access EVERYTHING on your phone.

Doing it only a couple of times may not work. It took me almost 20 to make it happen the first time. Then it took only twice. Again 4 times. Once I had gotten in, I could turn the screen off and whenever I decided to look again I went straight to homescreen...no lockscreen...until I rebooted. Once I had exploited, I had access to everything on my phone. Since it only requires a little patience, anyone who is determined to get in will do so. The fact that the steps have been plastered everywhere makes it even more potentially dangerous. The problem lies in TW framework and 4.1.1 is not immune. As best as I can tell, neither is 4.2 since it affects the Note II as well.
From my understanding, you need to be able to click a shortcut on the lock screen for the exploit to work? Unless I read it wrong..
Hence, no shortcuts on my lock screen, no exploit.
*edit - nevermind I see how it is done.. however after about 30 tries I cannot reproduce on my stock S3

This whole issue for me is hilarious. The blogs post the actual instructions for people to do this so then possibly wanna be thiefs will actually know bow to do this. Either way. Most people who steal phones don't care about your personal info. Its easier to Google a hard reset on most phones through hardware keys than by fiddleing with security codes and special methods mentioned here. What's to stop someone from taking my sgs3 and booting it into recovery through hardware keys and resetting it. Pop out the Sim card and its all theirs, brand spanking new. No special methods. Lol . seriously guys. This is why I don't use lock screen passwords or codes. My phone is either always with me or in a locked area. Its my own fault if I leave it for someone to steal. What's even funnier is I saw a similar exploit for the iPhone. Same deal. Hook it up to itunes and its reset. Wow.....

Your kinda speaking ignorantly maybe where you live is like that but in bigger cities Like New York your thing might be stolen by just using it on the train. On any train crime happens anywhere in ny, so sometimes is not "someone's fault" that their phone is gone.

Sorry if that's what it sounded. I live in a big city too. I meant this more to the fact that no one asks for their stuff to be stolen but this "exploit" seems silly when smart phones comes with a hard hard reset option. So no matter how much security you place your stuff is viable to be erased . unless you have other means of recovering that data.

Many custom ROMS have that feature.
It's not a new thing, my old moto defy has this feature from circa 2011. It is neat looking though.
I really like this animation.
It was introduced in Gingerbread on the Nexus S and Nexus One, and carried over to 4.0+. I'm so used to it now that I forget that other people might not have seen it before. I once read someone complaining that he thought something was wrong with his screen (on a Galaxy Nexus, I think), not realizing it's just an effect
I didn't realize the first Nexus 7 didn't do this, but I'm glad to hear the new one does. I think I'd be disappointed when mine shows up if it didn't...
Nah, you aren't the only one
When I see unrooted phones without that animation, I get really really uncomfortable.
Yep,I'm diggin it too.
