[Q] bricked my phone updating. cant do a thing - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

edit: fixed

chronopolis said:
Hey guys, I have a sony xperia play and I recently rooted it and was in the process of updating when it shut off (I have a bad battery). Now, I cannot do anything on it...no flash mode, no fastboot, no hard reset, no anything. When I plug it into flashtool it just says device not found. I have also had no luck with wotanclient or pc companion. Please tell me there is a way I can fix my phone?
EDIT: managed to connect to flashtool in adb and fastboot - still cannot get in flash mode however
this is as far as i can get in pc companion

Start up Sony Ericsson PC Companion, dont put in your phone, click on support zone, phone software update, repair phone (highlighted in blue), let it download some stuff, select xperia play. Follow instructions

I am not able to do that, pressing back+plugging in the phone doesnt do anything besides show my sony ericsson logo. No green light or anything. I can get it into fastboot (which i dont think will help, my bootloader is locked) and ADB. Right now it looks like if i have a chance of saving my phone, it is through ADB using some sort of command

you hold back first, then plug in phone (still holding back), you get a green light, this happens even if you brick from bad updating

Im definitely holding it, it just isnt working. It still just boots to the "Sony Ericsson" screen and stays there.
Is there a way I can force my phone into flash mode, either with adb or with fastboot? If I had it in flash mode I could just install a new stock firmware with flashtool

sigh...it wasnt really bricked. well it was, but i can get into flash mode...my usb cord was broken(it would only recognize if i wiggled it). I am running SEUS now and crossing my fingers

[Q] Can't hard reset Xperia PLAY and isn't detected by flash tool

I had LauncherPRO, I tried switching wallpapers and everything froze so I did a battery pull and now it gets stuck on the "ROGERS" boot up screen or goes to a blank and no keys work. If I slide out the gamepad while its blank, the screen will turn on and it'll be a black screen with the time and the slideout bar but the touch screen doesn't work for some reason. It also says I have no service.
Here's a list of what I've tried so far -
- Holding the left and right D-Pad keys while starting the phone
- Holding the back and search button while starting the phone
- Using Sony Ericsson Update Service but it won't even detect it
- PC Companion won't detect it either
I've had so many problems with this phone, I was hoping to exchange it for a different phone if possible. I got it from Rogers on May 30th, and I didn't really realize it had problems till this month. Thing is, I have installed APK's from 4shared that you'd normally have to pay for and since it seems to be bricked now, I don't know if it's safe to bring it in.. It's not rooted. I'm pretty sure most of my downloaded apps were on my SD card but I"m not 100% sure. The phone isn't functional at all if I manage to get it to that black homescreen.
As simply as flash with flashtool.

Thanks for the reply. This won't void warranty, right?
Edit: Flashtool doesn't seem to recognize my Xperia PLAY when I boot it in flash mode. The green LED is lit, and it shows a battery logo when I start it up so I assume that means it's in flash mode, but flash tool wont recognize it. I've tried on a windows 7 and a windows vista computer

I am, yes.
I read somewhere that problems with pc companion not regonizing the play can be resolved by umounting the sdcard and then conecting it to pc companion again.

Just tried it after restarting my computer, still no luck but my PC Companion seems to start up everytime I plug it in while booting in flash mode.. which is odd
Edit: Nevermind, it's detected it now. Thanks!
i read that you said the battery logo shows up. that's not flash mode. you enter flash mode by ONLY holding back and plugging in USB cable. but i see you solved it now.

Yeah before I had read that it was different for Xperia PLAY, that you had to hold search. Since before I wasn't holding the "back" button long enough and I didn't think it was working. Anywho it's all fixed up now! This doesn't void warranty right?
Just wanted to add as i just spent hours figuring this out and its really stupid and simple but may help other people. When you connect the phone in flash mode. Connect it in FLASH mode. Do NOT hold the search key button as this is for FASTBOOT MODE. You need to hold the back button on the Xperia play to launch into flash mode instead.
Hope this helps someone =)
Apologies for the necro, but just in case anyone else is having this problem and comes here.... i spent an hour reinstalling drivers, holding different keys without flashtool detecting the phone in flash mode & searching through vaguely related results in google.
In the end nothing was wrong, I was plugged into usb 3.0 and whilst the drivers were installed and the device was showing up in device manager, flashtool simply wouldn't detect it. The moment it was connected to a usb 2.0 socket it immediately worked.
HELP!

My Xperia Play is not being recognised by the FlashTool (I've installed the Gorgon Drivers and it is detecting as ZEUS USBFlash...). It is not responding, I tried pressing the search button, the back button, but I got nothing. I am not getting any light neither. Do any of you have any idea about what I could be doing wrong?
Thanks in advance

It wont boot up .... Help!!!

Ok after my sony ericsson xperia play did the software upgrade while on the charger, it will not boot back up!!
Not sure what happend, but when you press the power button, it only vibrates once but will not boot back up!
It just shows a black screen!!!!
I have sent it in to the shop and we are stuck as to how to get it on.
You can not even get into the boot loader screen!
Its been a week, and i don't know what the hell to do!!!
Some one please help!!!!
Does the power button light up green when you hold down the search button while plugging into a computer? If so, use flashtool to flash back to the stock firmware
Yes it dose, the tech guy and me have tried to do so, however the computer sees the device but dose not know what it is, however even when the files are finished it sitll dose not boot up!

If it lights up green then you cant get into fastboot, it should light up blue, if im not mistaken!
Is your phone Rooted, with BL Unlocked, and do you have CWM Recovery? You said you can not get into Bootload screen? Did you mean Recovery? Try pushing volume down repeatedly while pressing the power button, continue hitting volume down till you see the recovery screen. If you can get into recovery just do a nandroid recovery/restore, provided you did a back up prior to your issue.
It dose not light up blue, but it dose not go into the recovery screen at all, in fact when you press the power button, gives a small vibrate and the screen is still black!
Also when you put it on the charger the LED light is green, really frustrated.
However, I am new at this, like I said only had the device for a day, and this happened after I did a software update, so I am not sure what a CWM means, kindly clarify, think of giving instructions not just to a newbie, but to some one that has no clue what is going on! LOL sorry man I really am new to all of this, I just want it to work, so kindly provide me with step by step instructions that you would give to a five year old child.
Hmm... that's interesting. A CWM is a custom recovery. Green light when plugged in means its charging. It sounds almost like your phones LCD is not receiving a signal anymore, if that's the case, seeing as you wouldn't see anything on the screen in order to even do a recovery, I don't see a lot of options here. If its brand new, then its under warranty, take it back and exchange it.

This has nothing to do with your LCD =|.
It's sony's stupid software bricking the xperia play for no valid reason ; happened to me as well.
Only fix is to download Sony Ericsson Update Service and keep on retrying the software update after it fails ; This is not the Sony Ericsson Pc Suite ; Also try removing the battery for 30 seconds after 6-8 retries on SEUS - happened to me a few times after the original occurence since i was trying to get back to complete stock.
Thanks for the input, I was lost on how to help out on this one! I thought it was only bricking the rooted unlocked phones.

I will try it, however would it work after I flashed it ?
I did a few times and it took the flash files, yet still wont boot up.

I wasn't trying to get him to use fastboot (blue light), I was saying to go into flash mode (green light)
Its still not booting up and the pc is now saying it dose not recognise my device!!
What to do????
As long as you can get into flash mode(green light, when you connect to pc) you're ok, wel re trying on seus and eventually it will work
Edit- it can take around 10 retries in my experience

Connect it to your PC with USB, Then go to support Zone in Pc Companion then select Phone software update and click Repair and follow the instructions, it worked for me when pc companion decided to brick me...
EDIT: Or you could always Flash 2.3.4, tut here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20151540 just follow the first two posts, I believe it will work if Flashmode is still working (The tut will tell you how to get into there)
correct me if I have said anything wrong, was in a rush.

[Q] Fix Possible Click me if you can help!

Right back in september aljendrissimo posted a brick fix,
He is now kind of dead meaning i cant contact him because he's never online .
So does anyone know how to fix a xperia with a RED LED flashes 3 times when trying to boot.
I cant get into fastboot can get into ZEUS FLASH MODE thing.
So any answers?
Can you use flashtool to install a firmware? Hold the back button while the phone is powered off and then plug in the usb while you hold it. If a green light comes up, then you can flash a ftf in flashtool.
is your bootloader locked?? if yes, repair the phone using pc companion..

Bricked phone?

Crap, I was rooting my friends phone and then did stuff with mine and I think I flashed the wrong TA. Now the phone won't turn on. When I plug the USB in, I only get a blinking red light. Am I toast?

Plz test can you get in flash mode(bootloader mode)..... press and hold the vol down key for a few seconds then connect the usb cable now(For the first time, windows will say installing flash drive driver). Then run flashtool and see if you can flash .ftf firmware, it can also wipe the TA. Make sure you installed PCC or Xperia driver set, and quit PCC before you run flashtool.
Just to clearify:
What exactly did you do with your phone?
Does "stuff" mean you tried to root it?
Which tool did you use? Easy Root Tool?
I can't really see what could go wrong there which could cause a brick...

I couldn't get it to boot in flash mode. Any button combination I try results in nothing more than a red blinking light.

Used easy root tool. His phone rooted fine and works. The problem is I restored back to stock on my phone and there's a chance I used his TA by accident. Everything was fine until I rebooted the phone and nothing happened. When unplugged, nothing will happen no matter what. When plugged in, the light blinks and that's it.

Xperia M stuck on Sony logo

Hey guys , my xperia m ( single sim ) is stuck on the sony logo whenever i try to boot it up.
I rooted my phone many months and it was perfect till this morning and then suddenly it got stuck at the sony logo.
Ive tried to fix it via the pc companion but it doesnt detect it . Now the battery has also run out so when i try to charge it , it shows the led for charging but then the sony logo comes up on its on and stays stuck there. Please help =(
That is a simple soft-brick/bootloop (depending on who you ask, I'd say bootloop).
Charge the phone for a couple of hours and then flash stock firmware with flashtool. To do this you will need to download the stock firmware ftf (these can ALL be found in the general section, don't ask for links) and also flashtool (http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php). Move the ftf to the firmware folder to where you extracted flashtool to (the C: is the best bet).
Once you have both of those things and your phone has charge in it open flashtool. Then click on the lightning bolt icon and then flashmode. Select the firmware you have downloaded.
UNTICK Wipe cache and data.
Click flash.
Wait for flashtool to tell you to connect your phone in flashmode (do this by holding volume down (I think) while the phone is off and you are connecting the USB cable).
Wait for the firmware to finish flashing.
If you get an error saying that loader.sin has finished processing with errors open the ftf with WinRar (or something similar) and delete the loader.sin file and make sure that you save the changes to the ftf.
If you are still stuck on the Sony logo after flashing, remove your battery and then put it back in and try to turn on the device again. If you are still stuck on the Sony logo after that you will have to wipe the cache and data with flashtool.
Try sony pc companian support

I read about the flashing thing on other sites aswell but what i was worried about was the fact that since pc companion isnt dectecting my phone will the flash be able to go through considering the fact that since pc companion isnt dectecting it even the flash tool might not?

Flashtool will definitely detect it, don't worry. PC Companion needs the phone to actually be booted to be able to detect it, whereas flashtool only needs the phone to be in either fastboot mode or flash mode to detect it. Both of these modes are initiated by the user when they are plugging in the USB cable and holding the respective volume button and the phone is off.

Thank you for helping me just btw
I know this'll annoy you a bit but the version that i have to flash it with is the stock one? Because i searched on the internet and some are with the 4.3 one and some are 4.2.2 so im a bit confused. Sorry im kind of a noob at this T_T
And flashtool first says that my phone is connected with usb debugging on then says phone is disconnected when its not :/

Any stock firmware to the device will work, so it can be any of the 4.1.2 variants or and of the 4.3 variants (4.2 is for dual SIM). And don't worry about being a noob, all of us were at one point or another.

When you are flashing a firmware be sure to keep the cable firmly connected throughout the entire process (use a different cable if the one you already have is a bit loose) and don't mess with the phone at all. Can you post the whole log you got from flashtool? Either in text form or through a screenshot?
