Time for a Verizon GNex section? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Since the Verizon users will have different roms, I think its time to make two different sections for the Nexus. It will make it easier to browse and stop complications with new users flashing GSM roms and radios

Agreed. The build identifiers are too cryptic, and similar, for beginners to make heads or tails of without pouring a BUNCH of time into the forums.

Agreed, the Nexus S forums was set up this way as well.

i was *****ing about this earlier on g+ , since verizon released gnex the forum has been flooded out with lte stuff.
they need their own sub forum in a hurry its already a mess

There should be a seperate lte and GSM forum. If you break it up more than that, we will see less development for our devices.

Yup, just do it like the Nexus S did.
Common General, Accessories, Q&A, and Apps/Theme forums but separate the development forums to LTE and GSM.
Would save a lot of bricks and headaches.

You just called a forum moderator a troll....
@AllGamer: OP is saying that the development section should be split. So there'd be a GSM and CDMA forum. Kinda like how the Nexus S forum is set (I see you on there from time to time). Nexus S & Nexus S 4G.. 4G being CDMA and the regular forum being GSM. In my opinion, I agree... just keep the General, Q&A, Accessories and Themes & Apps the same. But just add another forum for the LTE version and move all the LTE material over there. That way, people aren't flashing the wrong thing.

Agreed, the forum is flooded again with people moaning about tiny little things like the screen or MTP etc., it's annoying having to see them all over again now the LTE version has been released..

Agreed - a separate forum for VZW GN would be fantastic.
Some people have already asked questions about flashing mods and whatnot for a GSM GN on a VZW GN. It would be prudent to create a separate forum in my opinion.
I find it annoying as is to sift through all the stuff as is, with it mixed together, I can't think of how hard it will be to find stuff once development goes full blast.
separate forum is my vote.
We definitely need a separate forum.
If not separate entire forum, maybe separate subforums for LTE vs GSM, or something like mandatory thread tags that show up in the title (you have to choose GSM or LTE/CDMA right below the subject line and it gets prepended in brackets [ ]).

The last few days seems to really show that this is needed.
Please pretty please, mods?
yeop.. agree.. seperate forum.
Yep, I already got myself into all kinds of trouble trying to install the "search icon/menu icon" addon. Turns out, if you have the LTE version you lose your notification bar & all the bottom icons. I'll be far more cautious now, but I'm sure I won't be the last one to try and install the wrong version of something.
They should seperate it like they did for the Milestone / Droid, and have really just a seperate dev section for each phone but otherwise it was a shared thread.

Seperate GSM/CDMA Forums

Thinking that the Development forum should be split into two
One for CDMA/LTE
One for GSM
Seems like that would solve the confusion and prevent potential bricks.

I thought maybe I was a noob and didn't understand why they weren't splitting the forums. It seems like some GSM mods/roms/kernels work on the LTE, so you really have to go through trial and error to see what works?
Splitting would be far the easiest, though, unless developers have to maintain double the amount of threads which could be a pain.

If it's going to be split, it needs to happen sooner rather than later, just because of people posting threads that accommodate both as time goes on.

I use to have the incredible and incredible 2 and it was frequent to have roms made from the evo and other htc devices... doesn't mean I go to the evo forum for the rom. Even though you are right, the positives far out weigh the negatives here none the less.

I'd have to agree. And as for things that work on both, the author can post in both sections. That way they can field questions separately between the two, instead of having people with different devices posting in the same thread. Surprised this hasn't been done already.
Rabble rabble rabble.
Agreed! It could definitely clear up some confusion, even though I assume most members here are pretty smart.
I don't agree. What to do with general development threads, radio independent mods, etc?
Why not just "tag" the threads with [GSM] and [LTE] (like some devs already do).

? I don't get your point. There are no general development threads. Every mod is made for a specific model, they're not both compatible.
Radios are not cross-compatible. LTE radios only work with LTE. GSM .. same thing.
[GSM] and [LTE] are too disorganized. With two forums it makes things more organized and eliminates the chance of flashing something for the LTE when you have GSM (and vice versa).
Also, this is the wrong forum to be posting this. There are two other threads about this, we don't need another one.

Huh? I wouldn't say a majority are related to the GSM Nexus...
Although some may think it'd help, it'd probably do more harm than good considering a LOT of the topics overlap between the 2, and model-specific threads are indicated in the title or 1st post. It keeps us from getting duplicate posts that would certainly crop up in separate General sections, and it gets more eyes on threads.
The Dev sections are separate, that's the only thing that matters.

Yep, this forum is for CDMA and GSM Nexii alike.
If you post a thread though, just be sure to clarify which Nexus you're referring to.
The only difference between the CDMA n GSM are
Different radios (CDMA has a LTE Radio), size, and one is exclusive to only one carrier (till sprint releases theirs )
Other than that its the same phone n 90% if the issues will be mutual

Don't forget (Americans often do) that there's also Rogers, Bell, and Telus, not to mention a few more in Canada.
Rogers, Bell and Telus use the AT&T I747. I'm not sure about Virgin, Mobilicity, etc.
Peter
Addendum: I really should say that Rogers, Bell and Telus use the I747, which AT&T also uses. I really don't like saying it's an AT&T I747, because it's not.
Personally, I will try and use [I747] on all my posts.

XDA is about hacking devices, not discussing carriers. Don't forget that.
Go to a carrier-related forum if you want that.
I, for one, see this as a good change. Speaking as an engineer/developer.
Already we have 2 Off-Topic threads discussing this change. Don't complain about off-topic threads when you post in them.

Not really a good change, a step in the right direction, yes. But I for one only want to see Sprint related general/off topic posts when I come into the SGS3 general forum. That's why I ask for the tags. I mean that is a system in its self that needs to be used here ( I would love to see that happen). I'm just saying that makes it so much easier when scanning, and when you don't want to have to subscribe to all the Sprint related topics just to keep up with what your trying to focus on is ridiculous if you ask me.

3. *****ing about bundled apps.

Tho we wouldn't have to if we had separate forums. I know in the past there were several that would cross platforms from international version to US versions and that was great, but I think it's a bit confusing to do it like this and if you're going to label every thread with a carrier anyway, why not just have it's own forum??
It is what it is I guess.

You know I'm sick of seeing this. If people post in the wrong section start complaining to the xda admin! Instead of adding another absolutely useless "wrong section" post. There is a Verizon galaxy nexus dev section, a sprint galaxy nexus dev section, and a Samsung galaxy nexus dev section. But 1 Samsung galaxy nexus general section. It's confusing to people especially newer users, so instead of posting another useless wrong section post go complain to the mods and admin, they created this mess

Any forum clearly labeled as "development" (such as this one) is for releasing ROMs, Mods, etc. Not questions or general discussion. Its really not that complicated. And I think thats what irritates a lot of people. And this is a boot animation, which actually belongs in the theme section.

Yes you are right, but all I'm saying is it's equally irritating, to me anyways, to see "wrong section" all the time. For some people its just an honest mistake because it is somewhat confusing. They see 1 section for Verizon Galaxy Nexus, and they have a Verizon Galaxy Nexus so that's where they put it. The way the sections are labeled people who don't know better think that every section except the ones labeled "Verizon" and "Sprint" are for the GSM Galaxy Nexus. If the general section was labeled Galaxy Nexus (all) or something along those lines it would be more understandable when people get frustrated for wrong posts being in a dev section.

I get what your saying. And I can see how people could get confused. But I dont know how else the Moderators could do it. I actually think putting (all) after forum titles might confuse some people too. Pointing out that they posted in the wrong thread though is mainly meant to prevent them from doing it again. Not to scare them away from the forums. And yes, it doesnt have to be (and shouldn't be) pointed out in a rude way.
