Official Galaxy Nexus Car Dock with TRUE 3-pin functionality! (2012-08-10 Update!) - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Does anyone know where we can get this dock in the US?
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/genuine-samsung-galaxy-nexus-vehicle-dock-ecs-k1f2begstd-p33499.htm
Apparently, VZ was selling the el cheapo version:
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/12/1...ay-want-to-pass-on-the-car-dock-from-verizon/
no true 3 pin docking functionality built in! It was essentially a $40 piece of plastic.
Here's a video of the dock in action. This has to be the most functional dock in existence. The only thing you'd want more is probably an ext antenna connection but mobiles don't have those! LOL

DOCK SOFTWARE UPDATE 2012-06-06:
From Efrant: I've attached Google's Car Home and Car Dock applications. Once you install these (both are needed), Car Home will automatically launch once you dock your phone into the car dock.

Actually, pop the battery cover off. I see 4 distinct antenna looking connectors (3 smaller ones, one medium one). No idea which ones which or what they're for though.
I'd be interested in getting one of those docks as well, but am curious whether or not an extended battery could be used.

I think a ton of ppl bought the OEM extended battery:
http://www.androidcentral.com/verizon-galaxy-nexus-extended-battery-curvy-all-right-places
It doesn't "look" like it's much thicker. Hopefully Sammy was smart enough to make this dock fit standard and extended batteries.

Wow I was so into needing a Car Dock that I didn't even realize its essentially a $40 piece of plastic, lol. Glad I saw your thread. I want the REAL Dock!

One of the guys at a work meeting yesterday got the GN and was disappointed at the car dock. I was surprised that it didn't have the 3 pin function cuz I swore, the one I saw on the net had it.
I'll have to send him that article too, I guess VZ jipped a lot of ppl who were thinkin they got the REAL 3 pin dock.
Anyway, I can't find any place that sells this thing in America??

Amazon UK has Galaxy Nexus docks listed, but they're not available till Jan 1st. :/

Is this the one?

That's the version Verizon is selling that does not have the pins.

I pre-ordered one from the link below. No way was I going with the cheap dock. It's not pictured on the page but I do believe the model numbers are correct and it appears to be manufactured by Samsung. 99% sure it's the right one.

No picture, no buy.
Do tell when you receive it and tell us if it works.
I'll be waiting to try and buy directly from Sammy.

Will the one their gonna be selling in the UK be compatible though with the CDMA nexus? I'm about to contact samsung and verizon I think.

They describe it with " Automatically puts your Galaxy Nexus handset in Vehicle Mode when docked"
Has anyone found a "Vehicle Mode" in the Galaxy Nexus yet? The Car Home app from Google says it isn't compatible with the GN and I don't find any apps currently on the device that would do this.

Wow, don't I feel like a jackass. I actually got the verizon dock not even thinking of the possibility it might be a useless piece of poo, aka a glorified window phone holder. What a crock. Why would they ever do something like that? Worst launch ever. Also, anyone else noticing the screen isn't as scratch resistant as let's say, a droid x? I wanted this device to be so awesome, and it is, but I feel like they could have gone the extra mile and gave us the device that lived up to the hype more than this does. I mean there isn't a car home app that comes stock. Thanks for the recommendation on car home ultra. Going to give that a try until we can get our hands on the REAL car dock.

we have it at bell.ca, in canada

I doubt that.
If the car charger mounts directly to the mount as described, it's the higher-end mount and not the plastic doohickey currently on offer at Verizon stores.

Remember the GSM version is thinner than the verizon version, so the dock may not fit LTE phones

sure but thats them describing the dock, which could be wrong
i think the most important piecee of detail from their listing is the
i515 (VERIZON VERSION)
they probably didn't insert that in by mistake
plus mobilecityonline is american and the only car dock available to USA (NO GSM Gnexus there yet, unlike UK and Canada) is verizons

Don't SELL your OLD MHL Adapter just yet!

As many of you are aware, the old MHL adapters aren't compatible with the Galaxy S III due to a change in the amount of pins, so Samsung introduced an Adapter to still make use of your current adapter.

Didn't actually check the link!
$10 is quite a rip off for like 5c worth of materials to fix a problem that Samsung made themselves.
+1 for waiting for third party ones.
Is the micro USB port on the S3 standard for everything else I dare shove in it?
So has Samsung given a technical reason why old MHL adapters won't/can't work and yet all data and OTG accessories still work?

Phone's fine, FW isn't. There's no Mass storage mode, can't move Apps to external memory and for whatever reason they not giving MHL cables don't work on it, and not having that basic functionality is basically ruining my days because I can't use it the way I did with my S2.

Well, then I can only tell you that you only have the MHL thingy to complain about.
Mass storage and moving apps is gone with the way of the dodo. It's the same on the Galaxy Nexus and all Honeycomb and ICS tablets. The reason it used to work on the S2 is because it was a legacy device. I could go into a more detailed explanation if u want, but in short, it's Google's way of moving with the times, albeit with some changes that some people used to mass storage will not like.

I've already read the technical reason they gave about changing the file structure and moving away from more restrictive Fat32 format but Mass Storage isn't something that's "gone with the way of the Dodo" because iPhone has a big market for connecting to accessories over USB and without Mass Storage Android can't do that and can only use on computers with Kies installed, and not transferring to external memory is massively restrictive and Android is gonna end up like iPhone where if I install a few big games like Nova 3 i'll run out of space and be forced to buy a 32 or 64gb SGS3, and that's the kind of times I don't want to move with.
So there's no moving apps to sd card? Not even with app2sd or anything? What about with root?

Apparently there's possibly some way by typing commands into the Android shell to trick the phone into installing onto external memory but I haven't managed it yet and just hoping for an App to do the job.

And one other problem is because of the new file structure some Apps can't find the external SD so if you use like an emulator on some you might have to put the Roms onto internal memory, and there will be more Apps with same problem so that internal memory's gonna be eaten up very quickly, so like I said before I'm really not happy with Google and Samsung lately.

Samsung tectiles

Any one get some yet? I have but I'm having trouble programming them, it keeps saying unable to write, or un able to read and after a bunch of times trying it, it finally programs it but then to scan it it takes lots of tries also, it keeps saying empty tag, was wondering if any one is having issues with them as well,
Thanks

Mine should arrive today, looking forward to playing with them. Let me know if you figure out what your problems are.
i have been using mine just fine, occasionally i get the empty tag error, i figured out that the phone needs to be flush with the tag, then it reads it just fine. the error seems to come up when the phone cant properly read the tag,
other then that they have been working flawlessly
To answer your question right away... No, I don't have any.
Sorry if the rest of this gets a little bit off the topic of programming/scanning issues... this seems to be the only thread discussing these things...
I just learned about the existence of TecTiles today. Came across it in Engadget's review of the Sprint/AT&T variants when I was looking for a picture to use in another post.
I'm pretty excited about them. I can see myself putting 1 beside my bed, 1 in my car, and 1 on my desk at work.
I have a couple questions for you guys about these things:
The Samsung description page lists all the sorts of things they can do, but doesn't say whether you can do composite actions with them (i.e. Set a volume profile, set an alarm, and then launch an app). Can you do that sort of thing or is it just a single action?
Can they be used to launch something else, like a tasker profile (which would mean they can do pretty much anything), or just the specific things it says?
Lastly, the last guy said the phone has to be flush with the tag to read properly. I'm planning on buying a proclip mount for my car and hoped to just stick the tile right on the flat part which would be right behind the phone (see picture)

Do you think that small gap there would be a problem?
EDIT: I just discovered this on the Samsung website: "Sensitivity: Up to 2cm Operating Distance"
Some of you who are having scanning troubles may be interested in that figure. For me, It seems I'll have to do some testing before I stick it onto that car mount.
I was trying to scan it with out any case and still have the same results. I'm using a clean silicon case that's real thin, but I only get that error and stugle on 3 of them, the other 2 I dint have any problems, but I haven't stick them no where yet, but if you do decide to stick them, make sure it's not on a metal surface or else it won't work.

1) Yes you can string things together. I would recommend NFC Task Manager
2) Yes, you can do this with NFC Task Manager
3) Sounds like a good idea.
Ya I use NFC task launcher and got my tags from tagsfordroid.com but they have been backordered lately.
I just need to figure out how to really use Tasker.
I find them overpriced, and since they are just standard nfc tags, I'd recommend ordering from Tagstand.com instead. Their starter pack is just $14.25 for 15 tags, plus they work just fine with the Samsung Tectile app...

I actually put some on the underside of the table by my recliner and my bedside table. I wasnt sure if they would work through solid oak and a TPU case but they do I have them in car dock and on desk at work also.
I had no problem using the samsung ap or the nfc task manager.

they work fine with my phone but i found nfc task launcher to be better for programming and in general.. you can program more things like combining launching apps and settings etc, and also having one tag toggle between 2 different program sets such as car and home.
Also if you are having issues writing or reading.. make sure to hold phone steady with center of back of phone over tag, and also dont move for about 5 secs. even after it beeps as it is still reading or writing the tag after the beep.

+1 for NFC task manager, the one i use the most is on the side of my wireless headphones, it activates and connects my Bluetooth and activates my music player(when i'm leaving to catch the train). when i tap it a second time it deactivates all those things and connects my home WIFI and turns on the vibrate setting. The combinations are plenty...a true lazy mans toy!
i bought official tectiles last week when I got my T-Mobile S III, and they have been working flawlessly with Samsung's TecTiles app, as well as with nfc task launcher
I also bought a bunch of 88cent tags locally here in Seattle and they also work perfectly.
I did notice on one website that sells NCF tags that they say "some tags may rarely come dead on arrival" so try another tag. Its unlikely all 5 are dead.
---------- Post added at 06:28 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:23 AM ----------
these are the tags I bought
https://www.nfclabels.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&path=63&product_id=63
SO much cheaper than Samsung's $3/each
Ok at first I thought this was just a gimmick so now I have a question
Can I program the textile to turn on the Bluetooth and open an app such as ituneradio? If that is possible that would be AWSOME as it help me a lot on the motorcycle...
Thanks
yes, you can do that, super easy
however, you have to have your phone on and the screen unlocked
i wonder if there is a work around for that
also, the NFC spec says NFC can work up to 0.2 meters, but your phone will need to literally touch the tag. hint: aim for where the battery is (i kept aiming for the camera area, like a noob)
your screen does not need to be on or unlocked with this mod:

so this was shipped on oct 8th, received oct 23rd in toronto, canada.
i'm using stock rom, canadian galaxy s3.
pros:
seems like it's doing what it's suppose to, no glitches of images or anything like that. i've tried some games, HD youtube and music all worked. no need for "warm up" like some of the other MHL adapters seem to require. no lags while playing videos
cons:
- responsiveness - i'm not sure if i'm just picky or if it's just unrealistic to expect these MHL adapters to be perfect. i do notice that when i scroll around, there's a bit of a drag. not that it's not responsive, but the transition effects just arent as good on the TV as it is on the phone. i noticed it too during dead trigger, it's responsive..but just not super smooth like it is on the phone. if you guys turn on the power saving mode on your phone, that drag that you notice? that's almost what it's like.
- charging - does not charge the phone while playing videos
- signal - completely loses signal when in use
feel free to ask any questions.
Seems like a great deal! I'm hoping someone tries to see if they work properly

I bought one and it's completely garbage. Screen flickers like crazy while playing movie and forget about games like nova 3.
I'm pretty upset and it's going to cost too much to send it back to Hong Kong for a refund.

seems alright since it connects the phone directly to the tv instead of having to get another HDMI cable if you use one of these

I searched through like 50 pages on eBay and decided on this one (it's a shop that supplies cords and stuff like that)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/251151442464?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
They are littered across eBay but like I said, he had good feedback and it's a cord supplier.

haha damn i usually give up after 6 pages.
anyways, why this seller? there are a lot of other sellers from china who are selling the same cable but with a lot more positive feedbacks compare to this one you posted.
and i dont think the other user meant to say the one in the 2nd link is fake. we all know it's an after market adapter, just that we haven't seen very positive reviews. with that said, someone did buy a MHL adapter that LOOKS like the one in the 2nd link, and the seller he bought from claimed that it's suppose to be a genuine samsung MHL adapter.
going back to the red one, i haven't seen any reviews so far so sorry can't help you there. i'm just waiting for a US seller to carry them so i don't have to wait 2-3 weeks for shipping from china.

yea i saw your post before. instead of posting the link to a MHL adapter that looks like the one you bought...i think it'd be more helpful to other users if you post the actual link of where you got your MHL adapter from
interestingly tho today we finally have 1 positive review for a similar looking mhl adapter
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31994952&postcount=36
hey everyone, im trying to collect all the links to the MHL adapter reviews because there are so many threads around. i am NOT looking for the ones that talks about using the 11 to 5pin converter, just strict microUSB for gs3 to HDMI female port.
i gone thorugh 8 pages of threads and so far found 3. the rest that talked about having proeblsm are the ppl that are using the converters.
if you find something just post it in this thread and i'll copy it to the first post.

Fake Note 2

Hey guys. I want to do a quick comparison and I need your help.
Can someone please take a pic of the back of the phone without the back cover and battery.
Basically show me what's written under the battery. I want to compare it to mine.

The battery surely isn't the right one.
What's under the battery?
It looks kinda a weird. I don't know if it should be in chinese

Its purchased from an online retailer that claims to ship devices from global markets. The actual battery is the correct one even though the label states otherwise. The phone was shipped with Chinese as its default language.
What concerns me is that it looks like there's something under the label (if you look closely) and that fact that it says 1300mA instead of 3100mA. And shouldn't it mention that its made in Korea like my GS3 does?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Looks legit on : http://www.imei.info/?imei=355251056775893 .
But that font used for "Made by Samsung" is so fake . Maybe the phone it's made from different components and that label is made by the one who assambled it.
But that is not the battery but battery compartment.
Mine says the same. Post booted photos and other ones from settings-about phone

Can't the IMEI number be faked? It looks like there's two labels on top of each other which is quite puzzling.

i have a note 2 which i think is exactly the same as shown on the picture.
whats bothering me was the label on the back of the phone regarding the battery.
i have this phone for more than a month now. since i got i rooted it using exynosabuse and i was able to flash OmegaROM11. also before i rooted my phone it was being recognize by kies and i was able to register it too on samsung website.
where you able to root and flash custom rom with your phone?
i would appreciate your response, i can confirm if our device are legit.
If you could register it on Sammy's site, then it's going to be legit...

Yeah.. being able to register mu phone on sammy's site convinced me that my phone is legit.
However... whenI check my imei on imei.info, it says that my phone is 32Gb version but its actully the 16Gb version.
Also I saw someone selling a replica of note 2 online. There was a picture of the back showing the imei when i checked it on imei.info the imie exist...

Yes, it's 100% legit, everything works. I only posted a pic because the OP asked for a pic to compare against.
There's another thread where a guy bought a fake Note 2, and it's visually quite different from a Note 2 on closer inspection (ie. bezel size, chrome rings, button wonky, OS version, etc).

Ur note 2 is 100% legit... the 1300mA is ur charger rating not battery....... battery rating is in mAh not in mA.
So all good & Enjoy......
Hey, another noob here, hope I'm not hijacking the thread or anything...
I would normally be able to tell if it's fake through packaging, etc, but this particular cases doen't have any. IMEI matches up, baseband and kernel look legit (and wouldn't it brick the phone if that was loaded onto a fake?)... But I just don't have enough experience in this field to tell. If it's real it's a great deal
Anyway, here's the link :

Any other advice you could give me (stuff to ask the seller, etc?)

I think that's a fake. It claims to be an N7100, yet there are no charging pins for inductive charging, just 2 blanking plates. Also the baseband and build numbers do not look right to me.
There also should be a tiny screw below and between the camera lens and flash LED, but there's none visible on your photo.
Finally, he doesn't have a SIM inserted. I'd ask him to show pics of it inserted and the device connected to a cell. It's not impossible that this is a store demo unit, which can't usually be connected to a network.
However, at least the guy is being honest and saying he's not sure himself it its geniune, therefore selling it as a clone...

Is this one plus for real?!

Hey guys,
I'm about to buy a one plus 3 from a guy which is selling it extremely cheap and I would like to ask you guys, in what ways I could check if the device is real and not just a replica and also if It's not stolen. I saw you comment and first off I'd like to say its already a chinese branded phone and very modest company, not your usual suspects for making "Phoney." (pun intended) Also I do not own the phone yet, but since you're cautious I'll still help you out.
When I buy phones from untrusted/unknown parties I always meet them in very open public places and look them in the eye when they're talking, looking for signs of anxiety or hesitation.
Now onto the phone itself:
pop the sim tray out make sure there are 2 slots (real oneplus 3 has 2 slots). okay
Go to settings> about phone check the imei with this: https://swappa.com/esn (its free and trusted site)
pop one of my sim cards in and make a phone call. go back to settings> about phone and check the baseband, model number, build number etc. and make sure they are correct/up to date.
go to the camera (usually the stock app) and I test photos and videos.
turn on bluetooth and make sure it searches for my headset which i have on at the time.
Open a web browser and see how fast the app opens and open multiple tabs and different websites in each.
For a phone like this I would feel the quality of the build because most knock-offs just don't feel like "real"
and LAST but not LEAST go to settings> security and check the fingerprint sensor, (how fast it esponds, if it responds at all, nothing is for sure but chances are very slim that a knock-off company is putting a high quality fingerprint system in a knock-off phone. I do all of this while talking to him/her about how the yankees are really sucking this year, and telling them my fantasy football team is better than theirs by a long shot.
I sure hope this helps :fingers-crossed:
Check the Android version. If it says Nougat, then it is obviously a fake one.
Thank you! Isn't there an app that can check if the phone is real? Like all the internals and camera module? I heard there's one with the name similar to AIDA..
Also, could anyone post the latest settings page where I can see the latest build/baseband and so on, please?
Thank you all

You could easily get 300 euro for OP3 so for me the real question is (and it should be your question as well) Why would the seller throw away 150 euro? Why would anybody do that? Nobody would unless something is wrong.

Looks real. Exactly like mine did whwn I got it. But what's to say that's what you will receive. Especially at half price.
Buy using a reputed site and pay using a known payment method.
That way if you do get cheated will have some way to get your money back.

If you can get internet... Download the Geekbench 3 from playstore and run a test and you should get around 2250+ singlecore score and 5400+ multicore score (If you can only download geekbench 4 then score is around 1700 for single and 4000 multicore)
