Greetings,
I recently upgraded to the Galaxy Nexus from my modded thundebolt running Cyanogen, both on Verizon.
This phone despite rave reviews has been a huge disappointment to me.
Battery Life This is an issue highlighted on this forum and all over the web. This phone's battery life is significantly worse than the Thunderbolt was out of the box. The latter was solved with a root and cyanogen install. I certainly hope the same can be said of the Nexus. As a medical professional, this device is simply unusable. I am currently getting less than 4 hours. The device is always running hot, as if some program is chewing through the battery, but a fix is elusive at this point. I have tried two nexus phones at this point.
Speed Another big disappointment. I have once again tried two devices, both with the quick OTA update. The device is extremely sluggish in virtually every regard. Opening programs, sliding through menus. I have actually tested my thunderbolt against the nexus on opening and running many different programs, from games, some of which are unplayable on the Nexus (may be an ICS issue) to opening simple email like gmail. The Thunderbolt is significantly faster and smoother. I admit I am a bit mistified by this one, hearing so many with rave reviews of the speed. I am not sure if this is because others are coming from much older devices or if there really is a speed issue. The Thunderbolt was clearly much faster in every regard. Again two separate
Vibrate This is a major issue for me, being in the medical profession. The device doubles as my pager, and missing pages can obviously be dangerous to my patients. I have again tested and confirmed this on two separate Nexus devices.
Voice to Text The google engine that transcribes on the fly only works with the android keyboard. Further, I have found it to be much less accurate than my thunderbolt using flex t9. I even tried the latter on the nexus, reproducing many of these problems. Not sure if this is a microphone issue on the nexus.
Games Some are simply unplayable. This may be a native problem to ICS, but my favorite game, frozen bubble plus is no longer a viable time waster.
Camera The concerns about this are well justified. It does fine in sunlight, but anything with a flash is absolutely horrid and unusable. For those who enjoy sharing a quick photo via facebook, texting, whatsapp, picasa etc, you are seriously going to be disappointed. The focus is inconsistent, and the flash over saturates the pictures. Major step behind the Thunderbolt.
There are other annoyances. Long pressing a text box allows you to change input method.
I haven't figured out if you can assign an on screen "hardware" button to a task by long pressing like you can on the thunderbolt. I have the find key on my thunderbolt assigned to the voice command. So I can long press on it and text, email, search directions etc with one simple long press. I don't see an easy way to do this on the Nexus, another major inconvenience.
In fact the only way I see to use the voice capabilities is to keep the google search bar on the home screen. I don't see the program even listed in the apps.
Perhaps many of these issues can be addressed in an upgrade, but this device's starting point is very disappointing to me, worse than the bolt.
4 hours?
I don't know what to say to any of that.
First, I easily get 18-25 hours DAILY depending on how much I use the phone. And I'd like to point on that I am a HEAVY texter (girlfriend ). Maybe you have the LTE version? I'm sure you would get ****ty battery life on LTE all the time and inside of a hospital with low reception.
Second, this has got to be the the fastest and most "fluid" device I have ever owned. I come from a dualcore Tegra 2 G2x, and the Galaxy Nexus just blows it out of the water. There is no comparison. Needless to say, I've also owned a Nexus One, Samsung Vibrant, and a G2 (The G2 with a processor most closest to your Thunderbolt).
Third, the phone vibrates just fine in my experience. If you're having troubles with it, put your incoming call ringtone on silent and raise your notification ringtone volume. That way you don't have to worry about a random call disturbing the peace.
Fourth, you must remember this is a Google Nexus device. Most games come optimized for Nexus devices. Give it time, your favorite games will be updated. In the mean time, there are plenty of other games you could play (Age of Zombies? )
Fifth, are you really going to complain about the focusing? The Galaxy Nexus has an instant shutter speed. If you want a better focus, how about you hold onto the shutter button before releasing it instantly?
I don't know about changing the input method via long press since the stock keyboard is the best I've ever used on an android device.
If you really do need a "hardware" search button, just apply a mod. If not, then just press home and it's there right at the top. Seems pretty convenient to me

Good to hear you are doing so well, implying that there is some kind of drain issue isolated to the verizon LTE launch.
I am coming from a Thunderbolt, and while the device isn't slow, the rooted/modded bolt was significantly faster at launching gmail, yahoo mail, go sms texting, facebook etc... I suspect that this too will be fixed, but its frustrating that a more powerful device on paper is actually performing worse than an almost year old device.
Any other Thunderbolt users notice the lag on the nexus that I am referring to?
The vibrate feature is perhaps a matter of personal preference. What is fine for you, may not be nearly enough for others. I will try your suggestions though and appreciate it. I prefer to have my device in my pocket, and need to feel the vibrations as they are often emergent pages. Again, the vibration issue seems to be a real problem documented hear and elsewhere on the web.
The camera issue isn't about the speed, which is impressive. The problem is too many photos don't focus properly. The bolt took terrific pictures in comparison albeit at a slower pace. Flash photography indoors is not even passable in my opinion. Perhaps this latter problem can be or has been fixed in 3rd party camera applications. I am just not aware of any at the moment.
The gaming issue concerns me the least. I agree that this will likely be fixed with updated games quickly. I only raised it because my number one favorite game was affected!
Assigning voice capabilities to a long press is a real convenience on the bolt. I don't even have to look at the screen to make it text, email, call, find directions, do a google search, or launch an application. While you may find an alternative "easy" isn't he whole point about android the UI and being able to customize it to your hearts content. I am 100% confident that this will be addressed in some modification or add on program, but it is not easily done now.

The problem is you came from a device that had development optimization for almost 10 months to a brand new development phone. If you were running a stock Thunderbolt the whole time, you would more notice the difference between the two phones. I also came from a thunderbolt running MIUI ICS and Eternity ROMS, I can tell that this phone is significantly better in every respect but the camera. But, as a phone, I don't expect the camera to be awesome. The vibrate is more elegant on this phone compared to TBs brutal shock of a vibrate, I still feel it just fine.
Your other annoyances sound more like trivial irritations rather than actual device problems, aside from the battery in which case I would say turn off LTE and it would last longer. Changing the hardware buttons wasnt a stock feature on any android phone, that was part of development. People forget that these devices take a dew days to a week for battery to run properly and once development takes off, this phone will be a monster in a month's time when everything is better optimized and features are added.

I was really surprised because the responsiveness of this device has been one of the big selling features. I agree that this will likely be corrected with OTA updates and modded devices, but out of the box I was expecting it to be faster than my nearly one year old Thunderbolt, and was disappointed it wasn't.

I agree that many of these issues can be corrected. When I bought my bolt, battery life was dreadful. After a quick root and cyanogen install, it was resolved. But out of the box, it still was a more polished experience than this device is.
These may be "trivial irritations" to you, but they are significant to me. I am looking for the most complete and polished smartphone experience. The nexus promised everything, and has not delivered as of yet in my experience. In fact there is really very little it has lived up to judging by the hype.
Clearly there are others with similar problems. I hope and expect many/most to be fixed.
This may be germane to those of us coming from an optimized Bolt, which is still a very worthy piece of hardware. I cant speak for other devices, as the only other android device I have extensive experience is the original droid incredible, which ironically is still fantastic and faster in many ways to the new Nexus in my experience.
At this point, very little of the promised features and experience have lived up to expectations. Perhaps the hype was too great, but I am hopeful this all will be fixed with software updates.
I hope people don't take this as a personal attack on the device, as I know many feel passionate about such things.

I think the main issue right now is ICS. i notice its still very buggy and lots of apps i used to use either dont support ICS or have issues running on ICS. its just a matter of time before everything is running properly.
Brand new Operating System, on a brand new phone. You have had the phone all of 4 days and expect it to be perfect already. I think you need to give it some time. You already said yourseld you modded your TB. Expect the same with this phone. And when and on a new OS you can not expect every app to work immediately. Looks like you should of waited a month to get the phone, or go back to the TB for another month and hold onto the Nexus. I currently have a TB myself.

I suspect you are correct. I was just surprised that virtually nothing that was promised on this device has been realized at launch. I am used to new phones being buggy, but virtually every aspect of this device has fallen short at launch and not consistent with the reviews.

I never said I expected it to be perfect. That is an unreasonable expectation of any device, even one that has matured and polished over time.
I do expect a flagship device to deliver on some of what was promised. This device has delivered on very few promises at launch. So far disappointed, but very hopeful it will be fixed.

But there are bugs with any device, especially on a new OS. Look at apple, they know how to bring new devices to market, but at launch iOS 5 was plagued with bugs, most notable was the battery drain.
But what promises hasn't the Nexus kept? I'm a little curious. Because to me, the Nexus line promises to bring the best hardware and software in terms of functionality, and to me the phone doesn't fall short of any expectations.

you cant compare a rooted device with a custom rom and kernel to one that is just rooted stock, its like comparing my old droid 1 to the galaxy nexus, your not comparing apples to apples
now maybe it could be that i came from the droid x(rooted and running cm7) but this phone is just amazing compared to my droid x and my og droid
sure i lost some features like longpress to search but i gained so many new ones(face unlock, 4g, google wallet, ect.) that i see they weigh out the loss of that feature, just my $0.02 though
battery on the other hand though is really bad, i will get about 5-6 hours at most(im a heavy user though) i just reset my battery stats for the first time though so im gonna hope that fixes it, have you though about getting the extended battery?
I put the extended battery in yesterday and made my way home from my best friend's place (a 3 hour drive). I listened to music via Poweramp over the car stereo for 2 hours and 15 minutes of the drive and then took a 45 minute phone call. Checked the battery after all that and the Gnex was at 71% battery. My guess is those of you with issues have some rogue app blowing your battery up. And comparisons with the Thunderbolt? My friend's brother in law had a loaner Thunderbolt he got from VZW whilst waiting for a new phone to come in as warranty replacement. It was running the stock ROM. The Nexus is crazily significantly faster than a stock TB. Reiterating the point of others, just wait til the devs get 10 months of development time on the Nexus - hell, give them 2 weeks and come to us and tell us how the phone is versus the TB. I had a Rezound. Great phone, but lack of S-Off (root) and dev support is why I jumped ship back to the Nexus.

My launch TB had horrific battery life. I guarantee yours did too. Only after significant modding and kernel work for months was the TB acceptable with battery life. While I agree battery life stinks right now, it will get much better, and much quicker than the TB did.

Download "Camera ZOOM Fx" and your photos will be a lot more detailed and colorful

I agree that the battery life on the original Bolt was terrible. The starting point of the Nexus in my opinion is many leagues worse. Today I had to recharge my device 4 times. The last time was after it drained in just over 49 minutes!!
The device has been wiped and factory default, so anything that is sucking up the juice, came with the phone. Its incomprehensible that Google would launch a device with a built in program using this much juice.
Given the comments in this thread, I just spent the past half hour testing an unrooted Bolt, bought the exam same day, from the exact same store as mine. The device was quicker than my Nexus in virtually every regard. Launching gmail, yahoo mail, browser, go sms texting, scrolling, opening settings... You get the point.
I agree the device will get better. It cant get much worse in this regard.
I will be quick to root and install cyanogen.
I am very disappointed at this time, but look forward to brighter future for the device.
45 minutes? something is wrong with your phone or you are on the edge of LTE signal

My GN is on order and I currently have a modded Thunderbolt. I can't stand that phone at all, and I have been rooted and running Team BAMF ROM for a while. It lags horribly even with overclock, and while on 3G I barely get 7-8 hours. I hate it.
I'm hoping your problems don't translate to mine.

There is no info because it can't be done. You can't run android on TP2 at the moment, and if it happens to run on it, you will have to boot WinMo first so that being said, you will sort off be running 2 os's... so speed will be slow, might as well stick with WinMo 6.5.

I'd like to have excel and word on my phone,
i'd like the thought i can run pc-like apps for winmo (say dosbox for running games) or a lot of others (heroes of might and magic?),
i like customizations, i guess i'll sometime NEED push emails to my phone,
web browsing is actually not so issue to me, unless it's the ONLY alternative.
so i guess winmo is better for me?
or does the hero can do the job? (is it true it gets android 2? sense too?)
which OS is better for me?
i'm looking at the near future but i cannot see past to the long run, so i really have no idea which one to take on both phones. Keyboard can be VERY useful for writing documents and playing games \ browsing i guess.

and a noob question, can i run XP apps on winmo 6.5 or do they need to be adjusted for it?
a lot of questions but they'r the branches of the original, i'd apretiate the answers. The main idea is to take something that may fit my needs & usage, and not something needs to be suited for them.

I am deciding on the TP2 vs Hero for my wife who will be using for business function more than movies, pics, movies and games.
I went and saw both at a local store to actually see them and feel the hardware. Both are quality construction.
I have to say, Android is great, but, as a business user, I have to say that WM is the better way to go and having the keyboard is great too.
Not to say Android won't become more introduced into the business world, but Android is just hitting puberty with 2.0.
I really want to give Hero a chance and "make it work", but too scared.
Probably going with TP2 for now after I do a bit more research.
First of all, I can edit Excel and word docs on my G1, so that is NOT WM only.
Second of all, Hero runs on version 1.5 (Cupcake). HTC has not updated to Android 2.0 (Eclair) for the Android version of Sense. I'll be honest with you, I switched from Android to the TP2, for one reason, Android is a battery hog. With a $50 extended battery (That added significantly to the size of the phone) I got less then 10 hours of battery. The task management is pretty much crap on that device right now.
So if you need a phone that'll last for at LEAST a day (Heavy Internet/AIM/Skype/SMS/Phone calls) and that has a good speaker phone, you are going to want to go with the TP2.
If you don't care about Battery, want free turn by turn directions, an AWESOME App market, then you want to get an Android device. *EDIT* Also way better games on WM. I have Warcraft 2, and Age of Empires. You can't just run programs from XP, it has to be modified/ported over. However, as I said, I have the full version of Warcraft 2, so it obviously can be done. If anyone finds StarCraft/Quake 2, and sends me a PM, you'll be my best friend! lol
I have heard a RUMOR (from an unverified internet blog/thread) that when the HTC HD2 arrives in America, it will have two flavors - Android, and WinMo. So you may want to wait till the HD2 is out, because if it does come out in two flavors, I'm positive someone will get it to dual boot, or you will at least be able to change from one to the other with a simple flash. (Assuming of course that they stick identical hardware into both devices.)
Although I'm kinda biased, I'd say the Touch Pro2 is the way to go. It's an excellent device, the best I've ever had. As others have said, Android is still kind of young, and not the best quite yet. Also, as someone else has mentioned, the battery life is abysmal. I ran it on my HTC TyTN II and I couldn't get a full day out of it. On the same device, I could go 2 days without recharging.
Regarding Android on the Touch Pro2, it is possible. However, it is NOT possible at this time. The developers are still working on hardware support. Eventually, they will release a .zip file with all the necessary files. You put them on your SD card, and run an executable which will start Android and kick Windows Mobile out of RAM. This means that for now you still have to boot WM before you boot Android. And also, you might have to wait a while before stuff like the camera, GPS antenna, and keyboard are fully supported. After a while, they'll probably be able to get Android fully working. Also, there is a project that is centered around getting linux natively booting with code injection, but that's gonna move slowly.
As for the HD2 Android rumor, I don't believe that will happen. HTC should be releasing a device with comparable specs to the HD2, except with Android.

I have touchpro2 and this is my opinion based on friends of mine that have android
1)battery power- android on heavy use only last 3 hours max...touchpro2 7-8 hours.
2) All buisness apps plus voice quality ,internet sharing,etc. right out the box. No updates requires.
3)As far as games konami has signed a contract to make games for touchpro2 so in 1-3 month you see major improvement plus lots of freeware games you can find online.
4)windows mobile will be able to run android later on anyway...so whats sense of buying android lol!!!
The only advantage android has is its a little faster and thats about it. For now they have better selection of games by a little margin. Windows Mobile is the way to go. In couple days I will release a 6 level arcade shooter for free so that should help your gamming fix. Any other questions just ask
I really don't understand the idea of "heavy usage" being given here for the TP2.
There is no way I could get more than a few hours of heavy usage out of mine. If I have a really slow data connection it improves battery life because it stops the thing heating up but with full on HSDPA the battery gets eaten through really very quickly. A flight doesn't haveto be delayed for very long before I have to reach for the charger.
And that's without using the GPS. Have you tried walking about with Google Maps connected to HSDPA and GPS whilst getting calls over bluetooth? Battery life is really only 2-3 hours, if that!
This has been pretty much the same (although the TP2 is the best) with every HTC device I have ever owned.
I am not saying Android is any better but I'm not sure if it's the OS, more the number of features sucking the power.

I really don't understand the idea of "heavy usage" being given here for the TP2.
There is no way I could get more than a few hours of heavy usage out of mine. If I have a really slow data connection it improves battery life because it stops the thing heating up but with full on HSDPA the battery gets eaten through really very quickly. A flight doesn't haveto be delayed for very long before I have to reach for the charger.
And that's without using the GPS. Have you tried walking about with Google Maps connected to HSDPA and GPS whilst getting calls over bluetooth? Battery life is really only 2-3 hours, if that!
Ok honestly any phone that you make calls over bluetooth will zip mega energy , theres no way around that. As far as overheating thats an issue. If you have insurance I suggest you tell them your touchpro2 is overheating and to send you a replacement. Your touchpro2 should not get hot like that.
The android under the same use as you just talked about in the above quote will only last an hour tops!! I dare any android user to say it lasts longer under those conditions.
As far as apps and games concerned I found awesome apps
I put them up when i get a chance or link them here. The amount of programs does use up alot of energy , but when 6.5 official rom comes it will reduce battery consumtion by about 30%. Long live the King!!

Where did I say overheat ?
I gets warm/hot depending on definition and every HTC device I have had does the same when dealing with high data throughput, just like the Wifi card on your PC will warm up when transferring large files. It's normal, but it's also a waste of battery power.
Anyway, it's kind of difficult to compare the power usage of an OS without having the exact same hardware to test both on.
Has this ever been done ?

Well right now as it stands no one has the same OS on both systems but even with half of the programs that touchpro2 has the G2 last less. But I talk facts and not my opinion. So the only thing I can compare is this.
With internet on only surfing thru websites no downolading the G2 last about
2hours45 minutes. Thats 15 minutes less than testers of large magazines said it lasted.
Touchpro2 with internet on surfing thru websites and downloading (i couldnt resist saw some apps) lasted about
6hours 25 min. Me and my friend david( G2 fanboy) did the test. The only variable is david had his phone for 10 months and I had mine 8 months. But I dont think 2 months could have put a dent in his battery that bad. Anyone else test this out.

1. Both phones will never have the same hardware or software. Microsoft and google are 2 different companies aiming for different uses.HTC produces both according to what the companies are aiming for. So that comparision will never happen. Its just not possible.
2. Mircosoft doesnt put consideration into games or total speed. Microsoft concentrates on buisness and navagation apps. Microsoft also has better and more frequent updates to thier OS. The bad part is sometimes Mircosoft OS is slow.
3.Android is more a youth movement. Games and apps for teens to young adult is googles focus. Google doesnt recieve updates regularly so critical errors in thier OS usually dont get fix without a long waitinig period. Android however is faster as far as interfacing and jumping from app to app.
Well, I do think that there are some people on this board that would like to disagree on your first point since they are currently trying to make Android work on the TP2 and other WM devices. "It's just not possible" is a bit strong.
You may be correct with the Microsoft concentrating on business but since when have they released any navigation software ? If it exists please give me a link. I know there are a lot of 3rd party navigation apps and Google have their maps and new navigation app (only for Android 2.x in the US at the moment). But Microsoft ?
And saying that WM is slow in comparison is, yet again, impossible to gauge without a proper test, trying to exclude other factors.
I'm not sure about this teen thing with relation to Android either. Apple maybe. And the idea that Google doesn't release fixes quick enough kind of misses the point of open source. I'm aware certain parts of any released Android firmware are closed but the fact most of it's open means that you don't have to wait for a fix, you can do it yourself, or if you're not that way inclined you can get a fix from people who are. With Microsoft, however, you do have to wait and that is that.

As far as running android on touchpro2 , if it happens, I put money on it that touchpro2 will run the android OS faster than G2. The reason I say this is because touchpro2 handle on a daily basis way more programs. With Andriod it comes with the basics internet,google maps,youtube,clock, calender,notepad, sorry Iam having a hard time listing cant think of too much that it comes with.
Windows Mobile touchpro2 I dont even have the time to list
what it comes with but I know you already know.
As far as navagation I dont really use much except for what comes with the touchpro2 is good but I have seen some in these 2 websties www.freewarepocketpc.net and

I have only 1 question why is it just you and me in this conversation , I was hoping more people would join in , this topic we are discussing is not complex. I was hoping someone else with access to both phones like me would have run a test too and see what thier fesult was.
I moved to the Touch Pro 2 from the G1 (still have it), and I have to say that I get MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH better battery life from the Touch Pro 2 than I EVER did from the G1. The Android OS has no task manager (w/o it being rooted/cooked, which I have) and even then, it won't end every application and doesn't save much battery life. The Android OS was less dependable (IMO,) ex: my alarm was unreliable due to sometimes me waking up and it would give me a process error... My Touch Pro 2 would never have that issue (which was recurring atleast 3 times a week on my G1.) I don't know that i would necessarily say that the Android OS is "faster"... but just that it does run "smoother" than sense... I loved Android, but it did happen to be kind of a children's phone (I'm only 22 lol!) and I am in the military so I have to have a very reliable phone! Just my opinion... No "scientific testing" or anything... But I do believe that Zarpy is probably pretty correct in his findings whether they were scientific or not~

I am currently a Motorola Razr user (yes, I am way behind the times!), and it finally is time to get a smartphone. I don't want to get the iPhone because I can't stand Apple, and I think I've narrowed my search down to the Droid Incredible (I think the Droid X is a bit large).
However, I have a few questions I hope can get answered, and I need some advice:
1) Battery life- I have heard mixed things about the Inc's battery life. Most say it is not good, and some say it is just fine. If I am planning on rooting and loading a custom ROM, how would you rate the battery life? Compared to the Droid X and the iPhone 4? How long does a single charge last?
2) LED light - I know the video mode does not turn on the LED light for constant light, but I read somewhere that the Inc will get an update that will get LED constant video light - is this true? I know 720p was recently added.
3) I just checked out the phone at my local Verizon store, and when scrolling through menus/etc it tends to lag sometimes. Can this be fixed if I root and load a custom ROM?
4) I am also thinking about waiting for the Samsung Fascinate to come out, but that could be a while, and I need a phone pretty soon (in the next week or two). If the Droid Inc. is very close to the Fascinate in features (which I think it is except for the Super AMOLED 4-inch screen), would it be wise to wait for the Samsung, or should I bite the bullet and get the Droid Inc. now?
Any help would be tremendously appreciated. Thanks in advance.
1. Battery sucks. Only 4hours of moderate use.
2. I never use the led light, so I can't help there
3. Roms and kernels fix all lag. Try cm6 or skyraider with Hydra v.08 icicles or ocov (whichever is stable). That will fix lag.
4. Super amoled vs amoled- you can see super amoled in the sun, and it is difficult with regular.

Wow u sure know a lot without having the phone. I've had the Droid incredible now for around 3 months, I used to have the iPhone then a LG dare then the Droid Eris. I can honestly say the Incredible is the best of all the phones ever.

I had maybe a half hour of music a day, 20-40 texts and maybe a half hour of all the other stuff. Now I am rooted and running a rom(cyanogenmod test 7) on my incredible and I can get possibly a few extra hours of batt.
2) Led Light - in order to use the LED light while video recording, I believe their should be an ota update comming out as earley as friday that will fix this problem and add many more features.
3) Performance - when it comes to the speed and performance of the device, that depends on what is taking up the CPU, the more apps you have running, if you download task manager to kill the apps to stop them from running, the CPU will have more ram to coordinate itself. As it stands, the phone you saw in the store probably had its ram( CPU) taken up by all the running apps. An overclocked kernel for use with a rom can also solve this problem.
4) give or take- I highly reccomend the Incredible to anyone on Verizon's network. I too found the Droid x was very large and wouldent fit my lifestyle. As for the Samsung Facinate. The incredible and facinate are very close performance wise. If I was in your position I might consider the facinate just because its newer, but I highly reccomend the incredible because its just amazing.

I recently got an Incredible, coming from Windows Mobile. I've been using WinMo for about 3 years now and got tired of it, mostly due to AT&Ts crappy network. Was waiting for them to get their network improved and possibly get better phones but iPhone wasn't my choice either.
Here are some of my objective (hopefully) experience so far -- keep in mind I only have it for 5 days now.
1) Size: the device is the right size for me. I tried the EVO and while it's has a really nice screen, it's too big for my needs. The Incredible I get the same hardware with a smaller size factor.
2) Battery: this was a major concern of mine when getting this phone. However, so far I haven't noticed bad battery life on it. I used it for about 2-3 hours non stop (playing games, checking emails). For the rest of the day I had only Mobile Data enable and everything else disabled (GPS, WIFI, Bluetooth). I also installed "Advanced Task Killer" which is configured to kill tasks every 30 mins. This a great program and works well so far. I have purchased the upgraded battery (1750 mAh) which does not require a back cover change. Still waiting to get it. For the usage I did today, I had about 40% battery left.
3) Customization: The same day I got the phone, I was able to root the device and load custom ROMs. While I'm familiar with the ROM process on WinMo, I think the Android is much easier to work with. There are some good guides on the forums and UnRevoked makes it very easy to root the phone. After flashing a few ROMs, I ended up flashing back the Verizon ROM and using ADB to remove a few package. Works fine for me. Don't get any lags or notice any performance issue with HTC Sense. You can always replace HTC Sense with LauncherPro or some other launcher. LauncherPro has a lot of customization.
4) Screen: AMOLED ver Super AMOLED, I don't think there's much difference, at least from what I've read and seen in videos. Haven't seen the Super AMOLED in person to compare. What I can tell you about the Incredible, is that I have no issue with the screen so far. I have it set to auto adjust the brightness which seems to work well.
Using it for only 4 days, I think it's a great phone and customization seems to be endless, or at least can keep you VERY busy.
Verizon should have a 30 day return policy so order it, try it out and see how it works for you. If you don't like it, return it and wait for the Samsung or some other ones coming up... you will not be short of options. lol.

The battery I purchased is from www.seidioonline.net. I've used their products in the past for a previous WinMo phone and it works well. The battery is a slim battery while adding additional capacity so it does not add any bulk to the phone.
Yes, Verizon's return policy has a $35.00 restocking fee. I look at it as a small price to pay for using the phone for 30 days and then returning it.
Try both and see what best fits your needs. In the end it's what works best for you that matters.

1) battery life. Coming from a non smart phone (I had a ENV Touch) the battery life simply does not compare. That battery would last for days with moderate use, and over a week with light use. But that's one of the trade-offs with any smart phone. I charge nightly now, but haven't had any issues with the stock battery draining during a day of moderate use. Compared to my BB curve (which I still have, stupid work exchange server policies) battery life is similar when it comes to periods when the phone is heavily used, but it does seem to drain faster on standby. Overall, battery is bearable in my opinion.
2) dunno.
3) I don't notice any lag on mine. It's always been very responsive in my experience with the stock setup. Anyplace in particular?
4) The Galaxy S is the only one of the 4" screen models I've seen yet which I'd consider over the Incredible. It's still a bigger phone, and I really like the size of the incredible. The screen should be better in sunlight, and looks to have a little better color in the videos I've seen, and it also should be much better in terms of 3D processing. If it was out today, I'd definitely consider trading in my incredible for one. But it's not, and who knows when it will be released.
Overall I've been really happy with my incredible, and don't think you can go wrong with the phone. If you can hold off, the Fascinate looks like a great phone as well, but two months later, yet another phone which is better yet will be released. The incredible is proven to be a very solid phone, samsung has had some hits and misses in the past.
Cool - I am really thinking about getting the Inc., instead of waiting for the Fascinate to come out. A few more questions in the meantime:
1) Out of curiosity, is it possible to purchase a European Galaxy S and have it work on AT&T here in the US?
2) If I buy the Inc., root it and load a custom ROM, will I still receive OTA updates for FroYo and the other patch that adds the Video light?

I've had the phone since launch... not sure how long its been now....
1) Battery life is pretty decent for a smartphone. I have the Seidio 1750mAh battery and I get 19-20 hours everyday with 30-40% left. I leave home at 5AM and I don't plug in until I go to sleep, usually around 12. I however wouldn't recommend the seidio battery as its more expensive than the TP2 battery and you get the same capacity. Take a look at Batteryboss.org. I own 3 of these Seidio batteries and if you take the plastic cover off, you can see they are all 1500-1590mAh cells. I use Gtalk all day, not much SMS, around 20 Gmails and 10-15 exchange emails a day with realtime syncing, and about an hour of talk per day. I use automatic task killer as well.
2) The 2.2 Froyo ROMs have the light on for the camcorder. Check here forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=738634
3) The lags through the menus are most likely because of everyone playing with the phone, opening all the apps, webpages, etc and never killing any tasks or rebooting. This is a "smartphone/computer" and closing programs is necessary. I have had lag in the menus usually when the phone is syncing or installing an app etc, very few though. Also the froyo with 2.6.32 gives you more available RAM and its faster, haven't had any menu lag yet!
4) The hummingbird SoC is definitely an improvement of Snapdragon, same cpu (very close) just better gpu and other small changes. The superAmoled display is mainly brighter in the fascinate, makes reading the display in sunlight easier.
Incredible Vs Fascinate? Its really a look and feel preference I'd say... You really need to touch the device and use it in person to make an informed decision. For me, the incredible is very thin and light and fits in my pocket with no case, just a zagg shield and I barely notice its there, thats why I chose it. If you need a phone very soon get the incredible from BestBuy and pricematch wirefly or amazon. They have a 30 day return policy (no restocking fee) and you can exchange it if you decide on the Fascinate.
PS. I think the incredible is still back ordered. Everyone I've seen has a 5-10 days delay... Might be worth just waiting a couple weeks to decide

seriously though, this post is exactly what i've been going through the last two weeks...
i couldn't decide whether to wait for the elusive Fascinate or go for the Inc or the X. throw in the rumors that tiered data is coming soon too... i've been so anxious lately.
i couldn't take it anymore so i ordered the Inc. the X is way too big for my hands to use one handed comfortably.
Sense is way better than Ninjablur. Samsung's UI stinks. The Inc has higher pixel density and a better processor imo.
i'm only worried about the crappy audio codec and slow framerates during HD recording. Man, the sound is horrible.
i sure wish i could get a solid release date on the fascinate. graphics chip is sick. BUT, i don't wanna wait too long and lose the opportunity to get unlimited data.

I'd say don't buy one. It's a great phone.. Best one I ever had in my opinion. If your a newb, looking for help ,without getting insulted, this isn't the phone for you!
Love the phone, hate the support. Don't get this phone if you don't know more than anyone else around here. Prepare for total Internet tough guy vengeance as they flex there "i know more unix than you!" muscles at every turn. Want a simple 'yes' or 'no' answer if a certain csv is supported by 2.2?
Prepare for a, total IRC rock em sock em, you don't know what i know, brawl as they flirt with file extensions and unix innuendos that you don't understand. To begin, I want to say that I am not an Apple Fanboy or a mindless lemming for anything with an Apple logo. I've had many droid phones in the past. I just wanted to give my personal opinion between both phones and explain my personal reasons for dropping my GN and going back to my iPhone 4s.
I know that some people don't use the camera on their phone, but I have a 6 year old daughter. I use my camera quite a bit so it's important too me. I am not hung up on specs so the 5 mp camera didn't scare me. In the end it's all about what the pics look like. In perfect lighting situations the camera is pretty good. But we all know that most pictures aren't shot in perfect lighting conditions. For one week every time I took a pic with my GN I also shot one with my iPhone. Overall the iPhone pics were better. They were sharper, colors were more accurate and overall looked closer to what I was shooting. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying the GN is as horrible as most posts say, I'm just saying for my personal use it's quite a bit below the iPhone's camera for the situations I am in and use my camera for. Don't tell me that it's just a camera phone and I shouldn't be that picky. You can't deny that they skimped on the camera. It's not nearly as good as most current phones. I would have been happy with the same camera from the Galaxy SII, but it's not even that good.
Battery use is another reason. I realize that it's a bigger screen, faster processor etc. so it's not going to be in the same ballpark as my iPhone. However I had 4g turned off and brightness turned down to 40% and it was still horrendous. Now before you jump on my, i did root my phone and had a rom/kernel installed. No difference! I would lose 10% of my battery for every 10 minutes of on-screen time. I was averaging 1.5 hours of on-screen time before my battery died. This is something I monitored very closely.
Also, for full disclosure, my iPhone is jailbroken so I have several widgets that refresh every 15 minutes going and the on-screen time is well over 10 hours!
The screen is nice, and while it's probably the best of the droid phones, it's not better than the iPhone's. Now you can say that it's personal preference so here's what I did. I took a pic with my iPhone and sent it to my GN. I opened the pic on both phones and set them side by side. The iPhone was sharper and more realistic in each case. I also took a pic with my GN and then sent it to my iPhone for a comparison. Same result.
I really wish that those factors weren't a dealbreaker for me because otherwise it is an awesome phone! The speaker was loud, signal was strong, didn't have any rebooting issues - all of which are being reported all over the forums. It's easily the best droid phone but just not on the same level as my iPhone. Like I said my iPhone is jailbroken so I'm able to pretty much do anything that you can with the GN!
And don't tell me that the iPhone sucks and needs to be jailbroken because the same argument can be made for the GN. The reason people root and install custom rom's/kernels is because they want a different experience/performance that what they get out of the box.
Again, this post was to give an honest user experience of why I am going back to my iPhone based on how I use my phone.
Camera quality improved quite a bit in 4.0.4. Did you use this update?

That's odd I have galaxy nexus lte with the 2100 battery and honestly I have no complaints about battery life I use my GPS twice a day for about an hour and half both ways and many emails and phone calls also including all the junk I look up on the internet and I still go to bed with atleast 20 percent left... all stock. The camera I can agree on wtf were they thinking. To hell with shutter speed I want quality not quantity

If you are on a custom ROM, you probably won't get the message and even if you do, you wouldn't be able to update OTA unless you reverted to stock.

Without starting a pointless flame war, this is not typical of general nexus users. You have something draining your battery. Honestly, don't let this put you off. Do some digging and see what is killing your battery and then decide. Something is amiss.

I've looked at all running apps etc. Nothing out of the ordinary that would cause the battery to drain that quick. And this was with 4g off and on wifi.

While I concur that the camera is not as good as the iPhone’s—Google and Samsung failed here—I don’t know how you did this. With stock 4.0.4 I get 3.5-4 hours of screen time consistently and plenty of battery to spare, and I don’t do anything special to get it. That said, you’d have to pay me, and pay me well, to force me to use an iPhone daily.
Wtf did I just read.. retina is better than super amoled HD ? So you're telling me you can see the 20 pixels ? The experience on the nexus is much better.. iPhone is for dumb people, no offense, not to say that iPhone looks way too familiar now, and its build quality is ****, the nexus is better in everything except camera where the iPhone slightly edges the nexus

I would agree with you on the camera bit. The camera on my old iPhone 4 was far superior than my Galaxy Nexus. With the GN you really need a steady hand to get a proper shot. I haven't got the 404 update yet so I'm hoping that this will be fixed.
Well sounds like you don't have enough time to tailor Android to your liking, ****ty deal. IPhone will be perfect for you then.

I manage to get 3 hours at least on a normal day, even with wifi only half of that. Get betterbatterystats from here on xda and see what (if anything) is keeping your phone awake. Seriously, something is not right. Maybe something as simple as a ROM/Kernel combo. Try a few different ones and see how you fare.

So you post an asshole comment right back, a lot of times people see problems because of user error.
Go back to your Apple world, enjoy the limitations and enjoy not being able to customize to it's full extent. You can say that you can do anything with your iPhone4S but at the end of the day that is just not true. Jailbroken or not.

I am curious as to why there is very little dev's supporting the lg g3. The samsung on the other hand is being supported alot almost make me think i made a mistake getting the lg g3 but i do really like the phone. I guess i was spoiled before the lg because i had all htc phones and there was an unbelievable amount of support for the evos. so what do you guys think are we at the height of our support or will there be more devs picking this phone up?

Yes, more people bought it, so there are more devs.
What exactly you want developed for G3?
Kernels? Nah, you can't jump higher than lg did. It's already optimised. You can, of course, add some GCC flags, change toolchain, etc etc etc... For a marginal improvement, at best. Well, you can add undervolting, some modules (ntfs, gamepads, etc), advanced sound control... What else?..
Roms? Well, developing "only for G3!" roms isn't the best idea. Besides, some popular AOSP roms are already ported to g3, ones that haven't been ported don't even have stable 5.0 builds yet. Modding stock rom is almost impossible right now, apktool doesn't fully support neither 5.0, neither lg's special apk's (two apk's with id of 127 sharing resources? LG-way, lol.), so good custom roms aren't even possible yet.
And no, we won't get more support. If you want tons of support - buy Samsung.
I didnt get that too comming from nexus 5 i was expection great dev support for G3 as i consider it the best smartphone specially compare to Lagsung devices...but most of android users see only benchmarks so they go and buy that plastic piece of awfulness....but G3 has a great support..its better to have little and good rather than have 30 same kernels like it was on N5 community...the only thing i can't get is why at least CM isn't official supported!!

i agree with both of the posts here and to really answer the first question, there is nothing that i specifically want developed i just was kinda confused as to why the forums are not filled with roms and kernals but you made a good point about saying quality over quantity.. I do really enjoy this phone and consider it the top of the line right now but we will see......
Honestly we have a fair amount of roms at this stage and it will only get better and better but as far as kernels goes I'd wish to see some more with overclocking/undervolting/profiles features in them ..

Ive had the phone for a month or so now and while the design specs etc are top notch
The performance is not
I find it to be slow and laggy especially the stock messaging app (i know i can use an alternative)
I have the 16gb version and it always seems to be using 88-90% ram at all times with very minimal apps in use
Cant see it being the fact i have the 2gb ram version as previous phones with 2gb ram have performed much better.
Considering getting rid for anther device

Been offered a straight trade for HTC one M8 might take them up on it
As a person coming from Samsung S2, S3, Note 3, I can say that Lg is doing a great job with the G2/G3 stock software! Way better than Samsung! Yes you'll find fingerprint features and some other useless bells and whistles, but LG software is solid, almost lag free, and battery life is king!
During my lifetime with Samsung, I spent most of my time cheating its software with Cyanogenmod.
So, would I be sad to not have the same amount of support on S5? Definitely no! I think what we have is valuable and I haven't felt yet that I need to run away to CM11/12.

I guess my question with those who see terrible battery life, what is it exactly you expect? I always here "terrible battery life", or "laggy". But no one backs it up with examples.
So, for those that are seeing poor battery life, answer these questions:
What is "poor" in your mind? Please provide a measurement such as you expect x amount of hours.
Exactly what are you using your phone for? Are you playing games for hours, shooting and/or viewing HD videos? Listenting to music?
After x hours of usage, how much battery is left after use (and whatever you were doing)?
For those with lag, answer these questions:
How are defining lag? Where are you seeing it and how are you perceiving it?
What apps do you have installed and how many?
What is the amount of storage you have left?
I know some have stated they see lag in the UI such as when they open a drawer, or swipe between screens and such. I guess I've never noticed that before, so maybe they come from a different phone that responded better in their eyes. Things that can help are possibly reducing the animation, but a possible issue could be the screen size. This phone packs a lot more pixels in it than the S5, so I could see how rendering on a screen with a larger pixel density could cause this. However, for me, I don't really notice it, and even if it is there, it must not be a huge amount or else I'd notice it.
As for battery life, I don't know what people are expecting. I get at least a days (24 hours) worth. Now, granted I'm running Greenify which has helped me on other phones, so I'm sure that has a hand in it. However, there was a time I wasn't running Greenify at first with this phone and I remember having the phone charged at 100% when I went to bed, took it off the charger, left it on (I used it as an alarm clock plus as my on-call phone) and when I woke up 6+ hours later, it was STILL at 100%. Adding Greenify has helped to prevent apps from wake locking, but that's not the phone's fault. That's how some apps are written and that in and of itself can cause battery drain, but it's even worse if you out-right kill the app/service all the time.
I make and take phone calls (not all day, mind you), I send and receive texts (not every minute). I do play games (Game of War a lot) and that does drain the battery, but that's going to happen on any phone. I've listen to music on my phone, especially when driving to/from work and other errands. One time, I must have logged over 2 hours on Power Amp. I wanted to see how much it drained the battery, so I kept note of where the battery was at when I started listening and where it was when I stopped listening. Over a two hour total period of listening to music, the battery drained 2%. Not bad if you ask me.
I'm just curious because right now, with this phone, I'm getting better battery life than I did with my RAZR MAXX and my RAZR HD phones. This phone I could possibly go two days before charging. After about 36 hours, I'm at 40% battery, so I could probably go another 12 hours, but when I get to 40%, that's when I start charging back up again.
I'm not trying to dispute what people are saying. I'm just curious as to what people are expecting vs. what they are getting (or perceive as getting) from this phone. Again, most of the time, we get generic statements as "battery life sucks" or "it lags". Great. Please back that up with examples because otherwise, it's all in the eye of the beholder as to what great or sucky battery life is and/or what lag is.
Just to show, im currently at 60% after 21 hours of use. That's with phone calls, playing Game of War, texting, etc. I've attached the screenshot as well.
Just comparing to my Note 3, with stock FW but apex launcher.
Battery would last in excess of a day with quite heavy use, games Internet browsing etc. BT always on auto brightness.
Apps would also open instantly or as expected.
The G3 can has a battery life of less than 4hrs with little or no use. Consumes 18-19% in 7hrs overnight.
Finding myself charging the phone at every opportunity.
I know the Note 3 didn't come with qi, but the qi on the G3 is sooo picky. 1mm off and it doesn't charge.
Using stock launcher just pressing home, first the wallpaper loads followed by the icons then the widgets. No what would be called snappy.
And OMG does it get hot!!! For no reason at all. Not playing games, just emails and Web browsing.
So now I am left wondering if the phone is faulty.

I have both "issues".
"poor" is g3's screen-on time on 5.0 while browsing using 4g. 5-5:30 hours on latest firmwares isn't much. It was nearly 7 hours on 4.4.2... I always set brightness to 20% auto, lighting conditions are always same.
I use phone for browsing and listening to locally stored music via Bluetooth. No watching or shooting videos or playing games.
After 5 hours of 4g web browsing i am left with empty battery.
Lag:
I define lag as "animation stuttering". I am seeing it everywhere: Vkontakte, Google Play Store, while opening drawer, switching tasks, etc... It lags often, but not always.
I have 47 user apps installed, 0 additional system apps.
The only apps that keep background services or use alarms are: Aqua mail, LMT, SBH52 smart headset, Titanium backup.
There are 4 apps using GCM for push.
There are 6 accounts (Google, Shazam, Skype, VK, tutu.ru and one money app) at sync section.
And i have got 5.4 gb free out of 25 on intsd. Shouldn't slow down writing much.
A perfect setup, right? But it still lags on official firmware.
I would assume you aren't running anything like Greenify, etc. What it sounds like is there are a lot of wake locks going on. That's where Greenify comes in. I also turn off a lot of syncs as I don't need them. As you can see with my screenshot, 60% is where I was at after 21 hours so thus phone can definitely get good battery life. But, if you do a lot of stuff for hours, no phone can keep it's battery life for long. Also, with the quad hd screen this phone has, that is a big drain, but even then, I'm getting great battery life.
Another thing with going to 5.0, it's best to start fresh. Do a factory data reset and start from scratch. Going from 4.x to 5.0, especially with Lollipop, had a lot of changes underneath the hood. There are others getting better or the same battery life, but i also think it all depends on usage.
I dont know with other guys here.but i am very happy with the lg g3 forums

I already dumped mine at a huge loss. I would say worst phone ever, but that goes to my first Android, the Moto Backflip. Thank goodness my other phone is a M8.

As someone has previously said i also came from a note 3 which in performance blows the G3 out of the water snappy and quick with no lag and instant app openings
Greenify shouldn't be something you should need to do to get rid of lag on a quad core 2.5ghz device with 2GB of ram
Out of the box the thing uses 88% ram considering the actual ROM itself is like 1.6gb just HOW is that possible if the entire contents of the ROM was loaded it into RAM should still only use 76%
Its a high end high spec device extremely poorly calibrated i have an old galaxy S3 that out performs it
To say im bitterly disappointed with this device is an understatement
Only thing i'm having problems with is the fact that the ram is always overload. Used titanium to remove and freeze alot of stuff but still the ram usage is about 1.3 to 1.6gb.
This is on stock rom which is very good to me with no lag and everything an launcher needs.
Battery life from the G3 is very good, on my previous phone I was affraid to leave the house if the battery wasn't filled to 100% with the G3 i left yesterday at 62% and returned from work with still 46% (off course with no heavy use) while my data is always on.
Conclusion for me after a month of use, good value for the money.

Greenify isn't for lag. It's for battery life.
Again, each to his own. I think it all depends on the perception of the user and what they expect and what they've gotten in the past from other phones.
Form me, this phone blows the RAZR MAXX and RAZR HD out of the water, which is what I came from and I get great battery life (well over 36 hours) before I have to recharge. And even then, at 40%, I probably could go another 12 hours but I choose not to.
Just last night, before I went to bed, the phone was at 100%. When I woke up 6 hours later, it went down only 2%, so I had 98% battery left. I've since used it to check email, read the news, played about 45 minutes of Game of War and did some updates via Google Play and I'm at 90%. That's after 9 hours since I last charged. I'd say those are pretty darn good stats for me.
Again, mileage may vary from user to user and what they expect. And from the responses I'm seeing, that's what I'm gathering. Some are saying the phone is great, others say it's okay, and others say it's awful coming from another phone. So, that definitely shows that it's all in the eye of the beholder.
But I appreciate what everyone has posted. It does appear that some who didn't like this phone have been able to find a phone that works great for them. I always try to state why a phone works great "for me" because that's what it is. It's not necessarily going to work great for someone else, but I also don't want to steer someone towards this phone if it doesn't meet their needs, so I try to explain why and how it works for me as I'm the user of this phone, and everyone else might use it differently.

I don't get why a lot of people are complaining about lag and support and s*** like that.
You are getting lag probably because:
(A) You don't know how to use your phone.
(B) You picked up the 16GB model (which only has 2GB RAM
(C) You're not rooted (seriously, who doesn't root their phones nowadays)
When I got this phone, I didn't have it rooted for a month. Everything was smooth despite having a lot of apps installed. It only became a lag machine when I installed Facebook and its Messenger app.
Yes there are lags from time to time, but do iPhones not lag? Of course they do, all phones do. I don't see all you guys' point.
A good phone doesn't need any sort of custom ROM and kernel, etc etc. Mine has always been on Stock ROM and Kernel, minimal lag. iPhone-like smoothness, I must say (but plus good multitasking. iOS multitasking is s***) In fact, when I upgraded to Android 5.0, it got even better.
I have stayed stock most of the time but I always have Greenify installed, (but battery life was still great before rooting and installing Greenify)

Not sure why people are seeing 18%+ drop in battery overnight in standby mode. Must either have a lot of synching going on or a misbehaving app or two.
Me, when I'm at home, WiFi is turned on. I have minimal syncing (apps, calendar, google+, photos).
Here is a screenshot I took this morning. When I first woke up, I was down to 98% overnight (was at 100% when I went to bed at midnight and when I woke at 6:30 am, it dropped only 2%).
At the time I took this screenshot, I had already read the news, did some updates, checked emails, and played about 30 minutes of Game of War and I was down to 94%. That seems like good battery life to me.
Of course, if you really want to improve the battery life of this phone, maybe you can go to Amazon and get this upgrade for the G3:

Hi all- I am thinking about getting the 5X as a replacement for my wife's faltering Lumia.She has had the Lumia for about 1.5 years and it has been great but lately the battery is dying quickly and it is prone to freezing,and there is no way to power it off!You have to wait for it to die and then restart.
I have read that the drawbacks of the 5X are poor battery life and a stuttering UI.The Lumia always had great battery and was buttery smooth as well as having an amazing camera so I don't want the 5X to feel like a downgrade.
I have been flashing since I had my Droid Incredible way back when so I would have no problem with applying a Custom ROM to the 5X to smooth out the experience.
So I am looking for ROM recommendations that deal with the stock units shortcomings.I am guessing that installing Chroma or Pure Nexus or some other custom ROM will tackle those issues.

If you notice in the threads that people complain about a laggy UI there are just as many users saying they have never experienced that issue. I'm one of the latter.

Stock device here with no performance or battery issues, I don't even have root access or need to reboot my device. Just do a clean install and don't restore from a previous device as many of those with issues seem to have done so.
The camera is one of the best in a smartphone right now (same as Nexus 6p), as is the highly accurate IPS panel tested to be more accurate than the one used with the more expensive iPhone 6s.
i would give it a week and use the phone as it comes (apart from maybe an adblocker, which for me is a mandatory thing). honestly the 5x is a great device, and a lot of those shortcomings that are talked about in reality turn out to be related to certain apps.
as you may guess, my own device is still on stock and i feel no need at all for another rom. battery life is great, fast charging is a great feature, and apps on my end start up near instantaneous even though the phone is encrypted.
of course there are some mild annoyances as with every other device and OS. when it comes to the 5x these were basically limited to doze, which is a great feature, which may have to be manually disabled for certain apps like GMail.
in the end it comes down to your wifes habits, the apps and usage, and the expectations she brings upon her phone. see if she is pleased with the phone (at all). if she isn't you can then take on those issues specifically. after all the closer you stay to stock, the less maintenance there is to do.

i would give it a week and use the phone as it comes (apart from maybe an adblocker, which for me is a mandatory thing). honestly the 5x is a great device, and a lot of those shortcomings that are talked about in reality turn out to be related to certain apps.
as you may guess, my own device is still on stock and i feel no need at all for another rom. battery life is great, fast charging is a great feature, and apps on my end start up near instantaneous even though the phone is encrypted.
of course there are some mild annoyances as with every other device and OS. when it comes to the 5x these were basically limited to doze, which is a great feature, which may have to be manually disabled for certain apps like GMail.
in the end it comes down to your wifes habits, the apps and usage, and the expectations she brings upon her phone. see if she is pleased with the phone (at all). if she isn't you can then take on those issues specifically. after all the closer you stay to stock, the less maintenance there is to do.

Pretty sound advice-she is not a power user.Or a heavy App user either.Just basic functions and she will be used to a great Camera so that matters.Stock may be just fine for her but I also know the power of a well-developed ROM can make a good or great device even better. Thanks for the input.
Have had mine since launch. Battery life is fine (lasts morning to evening with heave use; 24+ hours on light to moderate use), and the device does not stutter. UI is smooth and the device multitasks well. I am stock, unrooted, and encrypted. I don't game, however.
The only two criticisms of the 5X that I feel are at all valid are: an average (at best) speakerphone; and low output from the headphone jack. With regard to the former, the speaker will get the job done but is definitely not great. With regard to the latter, the 5X supports USB audio so if you are really serious about your music that's the way to go.
From what I have seen here and on reddit, it really is a good idea not to restore from a previous device. It does seem to be something of a common factor among folks that claim to have issues.

Good to know-well we would be setting up a fresh device,no restore for sure.
I had Volume issues on my Nexus 6 only when playing music oddly.Phone and Bluetooth and GPS were actually quite loud and I had to adjust down.You need Root,but with ES File Explorer I was able to edit the “mixer_paths.xml” file and setting all values that were "84" to "99" solved my problem.Not sure if that would work on a 5X although in theory it should,perhaps there may be a similar hack that a Google search would uncover.Thanks for the input.
