Update modem via CWM Recovery. - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Since the ota updates the baseband it should be possible to flash modems via cwm instead of relying on Odin. who has the ota update.zip all we gotta do is look at how they flash the modem and add a script to the update script to our roms.

You my want to Odin to EC05, you'll be prompted to update from there. Check the stickies in Android Development. Un-bricking your epic from the brink.

Ei22 isn't the latest el30 is if wanting the latest there is an odin package in development there's no modem.bin but you can flash the ec05 modem through odin and I think there's and ec05 to el30 delta flashable if not then I know for sure there's an ec05 to ei22 and then ei22 to el30

Odin to EC05, find the update.zip file which can be found here in the utilities section... (realtics.uphero.com), flash the update.zip file in stock recovery, you will then be running ei22.
then simply do an OTA update to el30 and you will be on the official latest release.

Alright I'll provide links and instructions
If you plan on rooting you'll need the GB3.tar kernel I'll link everything at the end.
1. Obtain the kernel and the el30.tar package provided by toadlife don't forget to thank him
2. Odin in the el30 package, and then odin in the gb3.tar kernel.
3. Odin in your choice of recovery cwm5.0.2.7 is a wise choice.
4. Enjoy your rooted EL30.
EL30 Odin Package : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1461337
Gb3.tar kernel : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1307980
Recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357655
Once all this is done you can find an su.zip to flash and stay on stock el30 or flash any other rom that you would like.
If you plan on updating modems you'll need to obtain and ec05modem.tar this is here : http://db.tt/o3KIjXbA and is flashed via Odin . These two are cwm flashables, Once flashed the ec05 to ei22 modem is in order and can be found here: http://db.tt/9icy8xnd
And the ei22 el30 modem can be found here : http://db.tt/nuyqxpvD

EC09 Modem Update

So, here is the modem update that came with the OTA. All this package will do is update your modem from DL17 to EC09. What you will need is CWM, DL17 modem, and the modem update zip.
Directions
Download files (listed below)
Flash the DL17 modem if you aren't already on it
Flash CWM if you haven't already done so
Transfer the modem update zip to your SD card
Restart into CWM recovery
Flash the modem update zip in CWM
Enjoy
Downloads
CWM
DL17 Modem
EC09 Modem Update Zip
if I've flashed the EC09 odin package, can I just flash the new modem?

Any chance we can get an Odin file? Also, why must you have the DL17 modem first?
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA
No chance getting an Odin package unless there's a leak :l
And exactly that^ because we don't have the actual modem file, you need to set the base as DL17, then patch our way to EC09...

There's no way to extract the modem from the update?

Nope... You can extract the modem patch file, that's it... And that's what imnuts did

The update only contains a binary patch to go from DL17 to EC09. Unless you know how to use a binary patch to the file, this is what we have until someone finds or leaks the full EC09 file.
Well since we have the source code we can probably get the full modem soon shouldn't we? Correct me if I was wrong

Full modems only come from leaks that originate at Samsung or Verizon, and they aren't released as part of the source or anything.
Oh ok. Lol

Does this mean the update is merely code which modifies the DL17 modem and therefore is not a complete modem itself?

Need help

I rooted my phone and installed cwm recovery and i'm wanting to unroot it and take it back to when I first got it it came with el29 how would I go about getting out unrooted,I downloaded the stock el29 ROM and was following qbkings guide to unroot with Odin but the file I have is a zip file and in the guide he is using a tar file inside the zip file is a .tar.md5 file do what do I do?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
You should go back to the development section and download the .tar and flash that with Odin. But since you have the zip you just flash that through CWM and it'll take you back to stock.
Well that revert the cwm recovery to? And could you post a link to the tar file?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101
The cwm should stay the same I believe. I would use the. Tar.

You can stay rooted wait a day or 2 after the otas start being pushed and get a rooted version of the ota, the ota on sprint isnt starting march 1 like the intl version so it could still be a while most likely will be a month or so b4 sprint starts getting any ics otas as the leaks are still buggy

So I can flash one of those 4.1.1 stock roms on stock recovery? If so could you let me know how
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
You can flash the otas in stock recovery if thats what you mean. But you have to be full stock UVALH2 first.
If you mean one of the roms based on those leaked otas then you have to flash with cwm or twrp.

Well I went to that website that was posted above and it showed 4.1.1. I am on complete stock uvlh2 right now. Just was wondering if and how you flash that or if I need to root and do it through CWM

Ok, first and just fyi, all of the files listed under OTA on that site are leaked, unofficial updates. Each has its own.....quirks. the only officially released ones are above the otas listed under firmware i believe. Only ics 4.0.4 are official builds.
The otas are basically patches, not full firmware. They patch existing files to update them to a newer release.
If you still want to go with the otas there are a few ways to do this.
The official way:
From full stock UVALH2 (no mods, debloating, modem must match, stock recovery, root is ok) boot into recovery and flash.
If previously rooted you can attempt to preserve root using Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper.
Mobile Odin method (root required):
Get free Mobile Odin from xda, get full version on play store. (Full version will inject root during flash. I highly recommend this method)
Open Mobile Odin and choose OTA/Update.zip. Select the OTA you wish to flash. If pro version make sure EverRoot options are selected. Do not check wipe data, cache or dalvik. Press Flash Firmware and confirm to start the process.
CWM method (root required):
I have not fone this myself so try to confirm elsewhere the exact steps. Using latest cwm recovery, flash ota file and when asked do not flash recovery. When flashing is complete then flash a cwm flashable version of SuperSu/Superuser. Reboot.
After flashing any ota check for these files and if present delete or rename them. They rewrite stock recovery every boot.
/system/recovery-from-boot.p
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
Thats it! If i missed anything please let me know, particularly with cwm method. Thx
Alternatively you can just flash a rom in dev section based on these otas.
Hope that helps! Good luck!

I don't believe that thread has the mjb bootloader which he needs if he is already on the mjb bootloader
It would be easier and probably safer to just install the recovery flashable modified 4.4OTA or TMS3KK-1.1 but if you really want to go the OTA route try this thread:
