Case + Holster Round-Up! - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey guys, just putting together a thread for a round-up for Cases for the Galaxy Nexus that includes/has a Belt Clip Holster with it.
Looks like Seidio came out with their famous awesome Surface case with holster combo, unfortunately it's like the Nexus S case because of the curve/humb on the back, so it's not a slide-on case, it's a snap on front/back, which I didn't like on the Nexus S.

Seidio Active Combo Case with Holster:
Active case is a combination of silicone and hard plastic.
Works with GSM 2000mah Extended Battery, VERY tight fit though
http://www.seidioonline.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=BD2-HK3SSGNLK-BK
Anyways just searching on eBay found some case+Holster combos.
Posting it here to ask if anyone has them, or want to buy them and let us know!
Qmadix "Holster Shell Combo"
Works with GSM 2000mah Extended Battery.
My review of this case: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20751992
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Gal...er-Shell-Combo-Qmadix-US-Seller-/270870724231
PureGear Case Holster Belt Clip Kickstand:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Gal...ase-Holster-Belt-Clip-Kickstand-/350516211396
Verizon's Case + holster combo kickstand (Exactly the same as above but with different pattern):
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/...ryDetails&archetypeId=12926&accessoryId=49884
Verizon sells it in a bundle (with car charger) and seperate in stores. Online only the bundle.
Otterbox Defender Series:
Looks like holster can be used both screen in and screen out.
http://www.otterbox.com/Samsung-Gal...or=20&start=1&cgid=samsung-galaxy-nexus-cases
Generic:
This one looks like the Qmadix case/holster but is a bit different:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Protector-C...rizon-Samsung-Galaxy-Nexus-i515-/310364277257
Generic Case, 2 piece snap on like Seidio Surface. No felt inside. Very cheap price:
http://shop.htcpedia.com/galaxy-nexus-holster-case-combo.html
Anybody find any more?

Can you also point out those that work with the extended battery?

I have an Otterbox Defender, phone can go in both ways. Screen out for if you want to use the kickstand.

are there any non-defender holsters that cover the top and bottom of the GN? once the horizontal dock comes out in the US, i'm getting that, and i'll be taking it out of the case often.

UPDATE, found another case/holster combo.

I really want to get a holster for the gym, but I haven't heard enough about any of the available options to order one yet. Hoping some owners will chime in here!

Of course not to forget the official Verizon shell/holster combo.
It has a built in kickstand.
I'm using this one right now actually.

I have the Qmadix and it takes a little flexing to get it right, but you can use it with the extended battery. I've had multiple Qmadix shell/holsters for multiple devices, and they never disappoint.

Seidio released another case: The Seidio Active case. I'm hoping that the size of the case is similar to the otterbox Commuter; and I will be using them in conjunction. If not, I'll probably try to mod the otterbox to fit. here's hoping.

Anyone try just a holster with a jel type case?
After the incredible and losing one from the Verizion case I'm not going that direction again.

That's good to hear as I just ordered one of these off eBay.
I used a side pouch for my Droid and was thinking of doing the same for the GN but it's just too darn slick to easily grab and putting a case on it makes it too big to remove from the holster w/o using 2 hands.

Yeah this one is exactly like the ebay "PureGear Case Holster Belt Clip Kickstand" I posted above, but with different pattern.

I've also bought the Qmadix case, it should arrive in a few days. Will post a full review.

+ 1, would love to hear which ones fit extended battery.

Looks like Seidio updated their website to say that their cases are compatible with the LTE and International GSM version now. I also emailed them earlier this week and they said they're compatible with the same case.
Anyone have the Surface case for the GSM yet? Is the phone loose in the case?

i got my seidio active tonight, great case and holster. it's almost the exact same size as the surface case and you can use the extended battery and extended cover without any issues. THIS will be the case i use for the phone.

I have the GSM version of the Nexus, I am also interested in both the Seidio and Qmadix anyone here know or can report if these cases/holster work on the GSM version ? are they tight fit or a bit lose ?
thanks

Can you post some pics? If this is true it'll be the case I use as well. Currently using the Verizon shell/holster without the battery cover and I dont much like having to leave it that way.

sure..
they seem to have cut down a little on bulk from the other active cases, as far as protection level goes i'd say it's a little below the defender but will suit my needs just fine
the small gaps between the skeleton and the silicone on the bottom of the phone back and front are due to the extended battery and cover in there. i personally have no problem at all with these gaps since the case flexes to accommodate the battery rather than compresses too tight and force fits it.
if you want any more let me know

Surface II or active

This is my final question about a case for my Evo, Im down to the Seidio Innocase II Surface and the Active which case will be the better choice? I red a couple reviews about the active not fitting correctly and i heard horror stories about the surface scratching the edges
I love my blue Seidio Innocase II Surface Case (looks purple on amazon)... Fits tight, no play. I have to go slow when I put it on so that I don't lift up the edge of my invisashield.
I think my case is the active and I hate it. The back has started to peel and a corner broke like it came unglued. I'm going to get an otterbox instead I think.

Looks like you have the innocase active limited edition, available only through amazon. I have the same and the plastic skeleton doesn't fit 100% perfectly, but it's not bad. I too had some clips (top and bottom right) break off, but mine gets banged up a lot while i'm at work so I wasn't too surprised.
The regular innocase active looks like the skeleton has been enlarged to prevent the clips from breaking.
I just ordered an otterbox commuter case and a seidio innocase rugged combo.
Personally, I like having the combo of a hard shell with the soft cushion of the silicone.

I had the exact same thing happen, but sedio did honor the warranty. Just a thought.
I bought the PT brand from Best Buy today and I believe it is the same as the surface. It is made by Seidio but labeled differently.
I love it. Doesn't add much bulk and feels good in the hand.
Well maybe I'll give them a call about the warranty. I like the overall case design just disappointed in the flaws I've had with it so far. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm in the same boat, my rugged has had the corners break off both on my case and my wife's.
I don't think I want to pay for the shipping to replace it through warranty though...I think I may just wait for TridentCase to make a Kraken case for the Evo.
Well, just got the seidio rugged case today and i'm really not impressed. Basically a larger version of the active limited edition. The plastic skeleton seems better quality though. Cheap port covers. My suggestions to seidio: take the rugged and shrink it to fit without the surface. Then make the belt clip so the phone can be inserted face in AND face out and reconfigure the top latch to be smaller/smoother.
Long story short, I switched back to my active limited while I wait for the trident cyclops and the otterbox commuter cases that I ordered to arrive.
Ps: I noticed that the exoskelleton from the rugged fits PERFECTLY over the one from the active limited.

I don't think I understand. It seems like you are telling them to make the Active, they already do that.

No problems with my innocase active I got from eBay, I've seen a lot of people complaining about the limited edition one Amazon sells, very happy with mine though, and ebay had it cheaper than seidio's website. The otterbox isn't bad but only comes in one color I think.

Hate to be a bother, but anyway you or anyone can post pictures of their Active case? I'm on the fence about buying one, and if I do it'll be the Active case with holster combo.
Seidio says the camera does not touch any flat surface with the case, and it actually looks as if it doesn't add TOO much bulk to the phone like some others, and a couple of the Otterbox's I was looking at fall into that category.

The camera does not touch on a flat surface.
The case adds very little bulk, but it will sure seem like it does when you hold the evo naked after using it a while. Same for any case of this type.
I have the regular active (not the LE with smaller outer shell) and the rubbery outer coating has worn off in the corners like in the pics of the LE that were posted. I'm sure this is due to my using it in a snug leather case, and is confined to the corners. No big deal to me. You can only tell if you look closely.
As far as fit goes, it is snug and well designed. Button use is as good as naked. Only complaint is dust builds up slowly on the left side where the outer shell fits into the soft inner layer. I take it apart and rinse the soft layer off every couple weeks.
My phone has taken several 3ft drops (off desk, out of shirt pocket while tying shoe lace) and is completely unharmed.
Is it the best case in the world? Maybe not, but it is comfortable to hold and protects the phone very well.
If this one were to break, I may try the otterbox but I'm not parting with it any time soon.
The pictures on Seidio's web site are better than what I could send you.

fanboy much?
I have the New Blue/Black Active Case and i LOVE it it fits perfectly its easy to take off if you need to swap batteries or put it in a dock, the new STyle Active is very durable doesn't crack easily.
Ive had mine for months now and the only visable issue with the back is where the Seidio name is its rubbing off from being set down and rubbed against other than that it's great it fits perfectly doesn't shift no gaps nothing.
the pictures they posted for the active in the beginning of this post is from the Active LIMITED it was their trial run before they changed it to the new Style
This is The New Active Case

Otterbox Commuter case best holster

Anyone have any suggestions on the best holster for this case. I have the seidio and heard that the holster for it works but was wondering if anyone had a better suggestion, thanks for any help.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I use to have the leather case with the Innocase II Surface, but my Innocase broke so I decided to give the Otterbox Commuter a try. The leather case with the Otterbox is a little tighter than with the Innocase, but it works just fine. Over time the leather will loosen up with usage.
I think the Seidio leather case is one of the best leather cases I have had.
Hope this helps.
bump.
anyone tried any leather belt clip pouches that fit the EVO with the commuter case on?
yeah interested in this also, love a belt clip for my commuter
bizump. still trying to find this.
I've been using the seidio innocase and it actually works pretty well, the only problem I have is you have to lift the lock up to put the phone back in the holster but that just means it is in place better so I can't knock it out by bumping a wall or something.

I would imaging the active holster would also work since both cases look to be similar in size.

The Seidio is a tad (a lot) overpriced, and it's horizontal, I'd prefer a vertical. I have found the solution. Personally I'm boycotting Seidio until they stop selling their 1500mAh battery as a 1750, and their 2400mAh or there about battery as a 3500mAh.
This holster is $10 shipped and advertised as being for the Droid X, it's 3/4" (W) x 5" (H) x 3/4" (D) which is exactly the size of the EVO in the Commuter case. I am ordering this listing, but I'm sure other sellers have it too. If you go with a different listing I would verify with them the dimensions first since the seller told me it comes in 9 different sizes.

I've had it for a week or 2 now and it's great, exactly what I needed. Fits the EVO with the Ottterbox Commuter Case on it like a glove. I see the seller is now out of them, but I believe many other sellers have them for sale on eBay. Just make sure you buy the model that's for the Droid X.
I am also looking for a holster for the Commuter. I just bought the Seidio Innocase Rugged w/holster (actually the Best Buy branded Platinum case, but its the exact same thing and same price). I like it, but it is overkill for the protection that I need at work, so I am about to buy the Commuter. I know some of you say that the hoster from Seidio will work, but I think it has got to be loose, no? I mean the Innocase Rugged is much bigger than the Commuter, and I really want a snug fit. I want a holster that works the same way though, clip on my belt and have easy access to the phone. Any info/help would be great.
Also, if any one will take pics of the Commuter in the Innocase Rugged holster, well that would be even more awesome!!

Seidio ACTIVE Case w/ Kickstand 15% Off Coupon

I've been waiting for a nice looking case with a kickstand. I just found this ACTIVE case from Seidio, looks like it just came out. I went ahead and ordered one. I'm hoping it will work with the extended battery, but if not... I may try just using that one as a backup. It'd be nice to find just the spare battery charger. I really don't want to buy another battery.
You can also get 15% off using the coupon code "winter11". Anybody else ording this case?

Rabble rabble rabble.
The kickstand is cool but the sides look really ugly to me and if you don't put your fingers there when you hold the phone it might feel awkward. Bonus points for covering the top part by the ear piece though.
i had an active on my droid x and was pretty happy with it except for the size and weight, but the otterbox defender for the gnex is just WAY to big (IMHO of course). functional case and holster combos are few and far between and seidio provides a solid product.
right now i'm using a surface, have an active combo on the way and i'm praying they come out with a naked holster since once the 3 pin docks start showing up i'm not gunna feel like case stripping to dock all the time
I've had the Seido Active for my TB. While it's a great case! It felt extremely bulky and made the screen feel smaller. I went with the otterbox commuter this time. Seido is great! I dropped my phone dozens of times with no injuries to the inside.
Anyone received their Active yet? I'm looking for a review. I'm a long time Seidio Surface (Innocase) fan but they are on backorder and I like the idea of a kickstand.

YES! I want a kickstand. I saw the Verizon case with kickstand and I wanted it but I have the extended battery and I refuse to go cover-less just to have a case fit it. I've been using the hangout on mobile a lot and it sure would be nice to have a kickstand so I don't have to hold the phone up all the time as well.

Who actually has the Seidio case? Is the kickstand for it any good? I am also interested to hear if it fits on a phone with an extended battery.
Hey guys, I have the Seidio Active Case with metal kickstand for the OEM 2100 mAh hour battery, and I love it, BUT, there is a problem with it I figured I'd let you all know.
The metal kickstand and the thickness of the bump for it, interferes with NFC. As you may know, the NFC antenna on the Galaxy Nexus is actually in the battery, so it's as close to the back of the phone as possible. The Seidio kickstand goes right over the middle of the battery. It is very difficult if not near impossible, to do things like "back to back" transfers with my Nexus 7
(especially while my Nexus 7 is ALSO in it's Active Case. If I take the plastic outer part of the case off, that contains the metal kickstand and the bump, and just leave the
silicone/soft inner on the phone, NFC works just fine.
But with the outer part on, NFC is very hard to use for back to back. With a NFC terminal like for payments, it works better (as they generate a larger powered field - I test them
at work actually as part of my job).
I let Seidio know this, they don't have a plastic kickstand version for the OEM extended or their extended. I suggested they move the kickstand up higher, or re-engineer it to be
thinner and plastic.. but no changes yet.
For now i take the outer shell off when I want to use NFC back to back
You also can't get the cases for extended batteries in anything other than black.. I wish I could get Red for it
I found even with the extended battery there are NO gaps in the case! just pull the plastic a bit and its perfect!
Oh and if anyone still wants one for a bit cheaper I am selling mine cuz I gat a new SIII ;] http://www.ebay.com/itm/281037616353?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l264

Seidio case and holster beats Otterbox

I just noticed Seidio have released a rugged case and holster for the Note which they call "Active".
On my Nexus One I had the less rugged "Surface" cover and it was great. The holster is awesome provided you make sure never to get a bit of your shirt in the holster and pull the phone out as I did once.
The holster has a spring loaded clip which is fantastic. Not like the Otterbox flexing plastic clip. I haven't used the Otterbox holster but the Seidio looks much better.
My Nexus One had one drop onto concrete in the case and was fully protected. The case had a corner don't and tiny crack about 4mm but was ready to go round two. Note is 50% heavier but Active has reinforced corners.
The model they have for the Note also has rib exo skeleton (maybe ABS plastic?) which goes to the corners and side in a six point asterisk configuration for extra tough support over the soft rubbery plastic under case.
The Active is $30 for case, $30 for holster or $50 for both together in the combo pack.
They are also making a not yet available version with a kickstands on the Active case for an extra $5 at $35. Same holster. Kickstand Combo $55.
I'm giving them a week to see if they bring out the kickstand model. Otherwise I'll spring my $50 for the regular Active Combo. It was great on my Nexus One. I can't wait to get this onto my Note and onto my jeans belt :-D
I will have to ditch my extended battery to fit. But I have one of those cheap ebay 10,000mah battery packs to recharge on the go now and its great

I had the active case with kickstand and it was the best phone case I have ever had. I had the Otterbox commuter case on my HD2 and it broke. The replacement broke as well. I am not an Otterbox fan. Totally sold on the Seidio active case. I would preorder it now if they let me.
I've had Seidio cases that were awesome and some that fell apart. I've had Otters that were awesome and some that fell apart. Both companies are hit or miss in my experience.
I've had Trident and Ballistic cases and all of them were durable and beautiful.
I ordered a combo case last week. Should be here sometime this week, looking forward to it.
Is there anything that can beat it? I see Case Mate is here for Note and it looks good. But no holster means no deal for me.
Does Seidio have any rugged competitors?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Wow. I live in Spain and I was about to order the case when I saw shipping was 35 dollars. Total rip off. Case mate only charges 7 dollars. I guess I'll go with case mate as soon as I find out how much thicker it makes the device.

Yeah Seidio are expensive. I'll either pay for it though or switch to Galaxy S3 AND 7 or 10" Note... none of which are available yet...
Probably cheaper to put my Note into a new Seidio suit than two devices into Seidio suits ;-)

Very little added. Less bulk than the Case that at&t has.
Just to see if it would fit, I popped on the speck black at&t case, and it fits
the Seidio belt clip/holder perfectly.
So if you have that one, or something very similar, you can get just the
Seidio belt clip.

I'm a big fan of the Otterbox Commuter Series case for my SGS II. This looks like a really good alternative while Otterbox sort themselves out in releasing a case for the Note.
Here are some photos of the Seidio case, next to a 10 dollar case I found
on the internet here> http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260961000978&ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:US:1123
I actually like this 10 dollar case almost if not more than the Seidio case

Notice how the cutouts for the on/off & volume sort of cover the buttons?
They don't seem to bother it when you want to use them. The other
cases have the rubber sticking over them, and at times when it is in the
clip and I sit down (mine stays on my left hip, means on/off is pointed DOWN)
I see the phone light up because it strikes my pants leg and activates it.
Here it is with the kick stand sticking out.
And here is a photo of BOTH empty cases laying side by side. As you can
see, the cheapy case is a little thinner than the Seidio case.
There ya go...hope it helps. I'm going to use the 10 dollar case from
China this week, see how it goes. I ordered it on Feb 26, a Sunday
in the states, Monday in Hong Kong. I received it via standard mail
on Monday, March 12 in Missouri.
i dont like that because the top/bottom edges are exposed, no good on a drop
Yep, that is the problem with it, but, I'm VERY careful. Ran my Dell Streak for over a year without any case or screen protector on it, just the microfiber pouch.
I don't use screen protectors at all. The only reason I put this plastic/rubberish case on it is because it fits the belt clip like a glove. Oh, the bottom being exposed for me anyway, has the side benefit of fitting the charging dock without having to strip it out of the case.

In order to use the holster to fit good, do you need the seido case? Can the holster be used if there's no case?
Im still searching for a nice holster
No, it will "fit", but it's VERY loose. I'd be afraid it would fall out.

Thanks for posting the pics! So all of my other seidio holsters have a rotating clip with strong ratchet. Can you move this holster to be vertical as well a horizontal? From the picture it looks like you can only do horizontal.
Interesting find on Seidio Active Combo
I posted earlier in the ATT forum how I was disappointed in the lack of a good current coupon for a Seidio Active combo.
Turns out that Google really is your friend. I found and ordered the same product from this vendor. The price represents a 30% discount to Seidio's price. I also did not have to pay sales tax (sorry New Yorkers) that I would if I had ordered from Seidio. (They are in Texas).
They also accept paypal which made it super easy to order! If you are interested in this combo, this might save you a bit of money.

Best fitting case for GSM Galaxy Nexus?

I've been trying a bunch of different cases for my GSM Galaxy Nexus, but most of the cases seem designed for the larger CDMA Galaxy Nexus. My phone doesn't fit well in these, there's often a large gap where pocket lint and dust and whatnot tends to accumulate. The cases don't really seem to fit very securely, either.
Does anyone else here have a GSM GNex and know what cases work best for the phone? I'm looking at lowest-possible-profile cases without a lip. I just want something to make the phone easier to hold onto--it's like a bar of soap at the worst of times.
I'm using case-mate tough series for Verizon (I have a GSM GN). the volume button fits perfectly, except for the power button, But I figured out a way to work around that. Which requires absolutely no modification to the case. Besides, I'm not bothered much to the lints issue
Yeah I bought an Incipio Feather, which I loved on my old Nexus S... but the GN one is clearly designed for the fatter VZW Nexus... and doesn't fit on very securely. It's too easy to fall off.
I called the case-mate customer service, they said their Barely There case fits perfectly with GSM model. Or you can try the Otterbox case (Commuter!??) I've read a lot of reviews about 'em

Thanks for your help. I've come to discover that the Rearth Ringke Slim case also fits the GSM Nexus very securely, so I'll order some cases and see which ones I like best.
Seriously? I'm pretty sure the vast majority of cases are made for the GSM version. Afaik the only case made for the cdma version is the new renke one.

I want to ask you where selling 2000mAh battery?

I was specifically looking for a case with no lip. I know there are many silicone and TPU cases that fit the i9250 perfectly, but I didn't want something with a lip because it fouls up by ability to use the edge of the touchscreen.
Of the cases with no lip, the only one that fits the GSM Nexus perfectly is the Qubits case I just bought off Amazon (and at only $7 it was a steal). The case is almost functionally identical to an Incipio Feather, but it's not branded and the soft-touch material is a bit softer than the Feather.
Other lipless cases were clearly too large for my phone at the top near the camera pod, obviously intended to be used with the CDMA/LTE Nexus. I tried several before I found the Qubits case.
I'm using this "Golla" case. Don't know if you can get them online though..
Sgp ultra hybrid best case in my opinion. I got the yellow and purple and I only paid £16 with free postage
.Beamed from a Galaxy near you.
Casemate tough

ive tried the commuter, incipio silicrylic, and diztronic but i settled on the tpu bumper case from ebay. its feels like its part of the phone, only adds about 1mm with the rubber lip. you never have to take the case off too since you can open the battery door with it on. you dont need any proctection on the back anyways if the phone is dropped.
i currently have the incipio ngp, the case fits great, however, the buttons are covered and it makes them difficult to press. i find myself adjusting the volume when i'm trying to hit the power button. it's also a pocket lint magnet. i have cut the buttons out, and it makes it worlds better, but, i ordered cruzer-lites anyways.
I got mine from dealextreme dot com (not allowed to post links yet)
It fits prefectly for Nexux I9250 and the price is great
I recommend one of these case i have one and i love it!!

Before getting the OEM extended battery I was using the Qubits snap-on case and I LOVED it. Minimal bulk added and the matte finish made it a lot easier to hold on to.
Here's a link, although it does appears to be out of stock on Amazon:

I like to keep the profile very slim and sleek on my phones as well.
I've used Incipio feather on an older phone and ran naked on my last phone.
The feather for the gnex looks kind of ugly since the cutouts are so big.
The ringke looks nicer, but apparently has issues scratching the top/wearing away the top of the phone if you remove the case often.
I also ended up going with the sgp ultra hybrid even tho it has a lip. Its supposed to be very minimal. An issue I'm reading though is the case makes for a sensitive power button that is triggered too easily ie. when moving around in your pocket. There was a mixup in my order and I received the neo hybrid instead, so I put it on for fun and the lip on this is also very thin. It covers the phone shell lip around the screen exactly. The ultra hybrid is supposed to be even thinner. More on this when my correct order arrives. Quality of the SGP stuff is on par with Incipio.
Cygnett Frost for GSM Nexus
I am in Singapore and picked up the Cygnett Frost for 30 USD. Everything here has the Singapore premium attached so I probably paid more than I should have but this case fits the GSM version like a glove. It's rubberized, fits perfect and very lightweight. Exactly what I wanted.
I also tried the Incipio Feather at the store and there was just a little bit of a gap between the case and phone back. The Incipio is definitely made for the CDMA Nexus.
Does any of these comes with a cutout for volume control and power buttons?

Yes, most cases do. The Cygnett Frost I talked about in my above post has cutouts for all I/O. They aren't overly large either.
