Shut up and take my money! If only that case existed, it would make me buy a Galaxy Nexus right now. 16gb doesnt hold enough music

The same idea for Nexus4

It's a great idea for all the nexus devices and especially the brand new Nexus4:
Simple
Cheap
useful (protective case + expendable memory).
It should also provide a mecanism to offer a microUSB port left for letting us charge the phone even if it is plugged to the case.
Any news?!

Find out a small company doing such a thing for the iphone but seems too massive (coz of the expendable battery on it).
Link
Should be ok for a Nexus device with only expandable memory. The sucess for that hypothetic product would be undeniable regarding ppl anger about the lack of sd slot on those devices.

lol this is definitely an interesting mod. No way to hide that thing under your case? That would look allot better.
seriously?
Really? I have an official Samsung Galaxy S2 OTG cable for my SGS2 and it didn't work on the Galaxy Nexus so I assumed it didn't support USB OTG. I guess I will have to find one that does.

The kernel supports OTG. The software doesn't support it natively. You have to download stick mount from the market to mount usb drives with OTG

[Q] considering purchase

I have only had my first gen Nexus 7 for a month and am considering selling it (to my sister) so I can purchase the new one.
(of all the bad timing, news of the new one started the day after I unboxed mine)!
Just a few questions that may help me decide.
1 - has anyone tried the new nexus with the first gen official dock (that uses the contacts)
2 - same question for a Poetic Slimline Portfolio Case for Google Nexus 7
sorry not able to post links to the above components as my status in the forum is too new.
I ordered the above 2 components about the same day they started talking about the new nexus (bad timing for me)
it would likely be a deal breaker for me if I have to get rid of these before they even showed up at my door!
Thanks for any helpful info

I dont know about those accessories but I would assume your sister would buy them for her Nexus. If you are getting enough for it that you feel like the upgrade is worth it, then go ahead! You won't be disappointed, this thing destroys it's predecessor!
still considering.....

The new Nexus 7 does not have the 4 pogo pins, so I don't think your accessories would work. Also the form factor is different, so I don't think the case will fit.

that too bad, the dock was a nice feature with version 1 of the nexus 7. Of course more of a head scratcher with me is "no micro-sd slot" even my wifes cheap ass Asus MeMo has a micro-sd slot.

Google does not put SD slots on any device. To be honest SD card slots are going the way of the Floppy Drive. Sure it's mildly annoying.. AT FIRST... but after having devices without them for well over a year now, I don't miss them at all. You adapt. Trust me.

I made sure my present nexus was the 32 gig version. I think that in the States you can do without the sd slot better because you have access to streaming services such as Spotify, unfortunately most of those services aren't available to us Canucks so we have to keep our music on our devices. I have found that 32 gigs is LOTS of storage for my tunes.

[Q] otg flash drive

I'm considering this setup. The price seems very reasonable. I think it should work with the One. Any thoughts?

I believe the micro usb storage/flash drives are just starting to come out. You can skip the OTG all together. Think I saw one posted here not too long ago. Maybe dig a little deeper.
And another option http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...not-discriminate-between-pcs-and-smartphones/

Yeah I did do some digging and initially looked at the micro flash drives. The option you mentioned is $30 for 32gb whereas my option for 64gb only $10 more and would be about the same size dimensionally. Thanks for the insight though.
I found these on eBay earlier today:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/MicroSD-Card-Reader-with-Mini-USB-Sync-Cable-/220584799910
I haven't ordered yet but I like them better than the other micro USB microSD card readers I've found because they are really small and have a lanyard. You can attach it to your keys or add it to a dust plug like a cell phone charm. The listing has other HTC models, so I assume it works with the One.

You can buy a 64 GB microSD card for about $15 - $20. Add $10 for the adapter and you'd still come out ahead. Plus it apparently works as a sync/charging cable (though a very, very short one).
The listing says 8GB max, but that might have been the largest size available when they were made. I went ahead and made an offer to the seller, so if anyone is interested I'll report back whether it works with higher-capacity cards.
Doh, I just realized the reader has a MINI USB connector. Won't work for the One. However, I did find something similar with the correct port (and cheaper) for anyone else who may be interested in pursuing this route.

Small compact OTG micro sd card reader

ill be ordering this http://www.meenova.com/ and just thought id share it with you all, seeing as the nexus 5 doesnt have a sd card slot
whats great about it is that it can attach to a keyring, so that you can always have it with you and not forget it
i mostly use my sd card for rom flashing and backup keeping, and we all know how much space that can take up

Thanks! I think I will buy this too
I bought a Meenova USB OTG adapter/card holder and put a uSD SanDisk 64GB in it (formatted to FAT32). It works well with Nexus Media Importer https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.homeysoft.nexususb.importer I have read that Stickmount works well if you are rooted. I was able to copy files to and from the uSD card and phone or play media right off the uSD card.
What a good find!!! Thank you so much! Wish it would come in red though.
Look nice, I bought something similiar that double as a usb cable too. It is very useful on the keychain.
This looks awesome, now I just need to decide on color... Black or Orange for my black N5..... hmmmmmm
I ordered one. with 32gb i never really see the need, but i'll use it to hold movies/files when i travel instead of loading them on my nexus.
I read about this a few days ago. I'm 95% sure im going to root my phone because to my understanding I wouldn't be able to load up a microsd without it correct? Getting this if I do not would be a waste of an investment, right?
I have a Rooted Nexus 7, but never tried to load anything via OTG before
I was beginning to regret not getting a 32GB Nexus 5 but this may work. I hope it works with a Spigen Ultra Hybrid.
No root required to use Nexus media importer. See post three in this thread

There are at least two ways to use an USB OTG setup with an unrooted N5.
Use Nexus Media Importer (link in my previous post).
Use Total Commander file explorer with USB Stick Plugin https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ghisler.android.TotalCommander&hl=en and https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.hechler.tcplugins.usbstick
Nexus Media Importer is not free, but I found it much more polished and easier to use. USB Stick Plugin for Total Commander is a trial program, but just makes you download the new version every month when it expires. If you are going to root anyway, then you might as well go with Stickmount. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.stickmount&hl=en since it is free. If you are thinking about rooting, go ahead and unlock your bootloader now so all the setup you do on your phone between now and then doesn't get wiped when you do root and need to unlock your bootloader.
Thanks for that info! Very helpful.
Yea - I'm almost sure I want to root it. There's a toolkit for Mac in the other section which people have used successfully. I rooted my N7 a while back and have loaded roms and backed up with Titanium. So I'm sort of familiar - I guess it's a slight fear of something unexpected happening. but you're right, the longer I wait, the more of a PITA it's going to be to set everything back up.

im pretty sure cwm and twrp have otg options, never tried them though. its the main reason im getting one. i like to keep allot of backups and cant do that with the nexus, would run out of internal quickly.
i would love to see a case for the nexus 5 that would use OTG to add a sd card slot. so that we dont have to keep adding and removing it

Nano USB Flash Drive Storage for Android and iOS

Hey guys!
I was desperately looking for a nice small flash drive for Android and iOS but I didn't find the right solution. Just the bulky ones.
So I decided to develop my own product with help of an engineering company. But before starting further development I want to know if you would get such a micro usb flash drive.
Check out the website with alpha design: www.matcha-t.com/
How many of you would be interested on getting one of these?
Thanks!

So it's like Sandisk Cruzer Fit flash drive with two shorted pins to turn it into OTG flash drive? Sounds cool, but the question is if you can plug it into a regular PC/Mac usb port to copy files to/from? Another food for thought, keep in mind for your design that a lot of people use bulky phone/tablet cases to protect their devices, and you need to take this into account so it works with cases. Btw, here is what I use for my OTG storage drive needs, mostly to watch movies loaded on Cruzer Fit drive: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2107985
