GTA 3 with Custom mp3 music - Galaxy S I9000 Themes and Apps

Hey guys,
I've found an easy way to implement custom mp3 files into the game. The radio station .nfx files are actually renamed mp3's. Even better: they're only recorded in 96 kbit / 32 KHz, but GTA3 plays 192 kbit / 44 KHz files just as well.
This is how to add your own files:
1. Download mergemp3 (freeware, search Google) and start it
2. Put all your mp3 files into the track list
3. Chose View -> Preferences and check the "Merge using raw stream mode" box, click "OK"
4. Press Ctrl+M or chose File -> Merge
5. Select save location and name the file CHAT.mp3; after the merging process is finished, rename the file to CHAT.nfx
6. Overwrite the file CHAT.nfx on your phone (sdcard/Android/data/com.rockstar.gta3/files/GTA3/audio) with your newly created file.
7. Start the game and select the "Chatterbox" radio station - voilá
There's no apparent size limit - the original files take up only 15-20 MB of space, but I've created a 717 MB CHAT.nfx file, and it's playing just fine.
Of course, you can also replace any other radio station, or you can replace all of them - CD changer style ;-)
Have fun!!

I tried this, but couldn't get it to work. How can i overwrite the file? I had to copy it(CHAT.nfx) to the folder and then delete the old file(CHAT.nfx). But it didn't work..

What exactly didn't work? Did you still hear the Chatterbox station? Or was there no audio at all on this channel?
Two shots in the dark: I can confirm this method works with mp3's in 128, 160 & 192 kbit, all with constant bitrate. Have you saved your mp3's with variable and/or higer bitrate? Maybe that causes issues, I'll try to check it out - right now I'm replacing all 9 radio stations with custom audio (1.5 GB of audio data) that contains some VBR files.
Second, are you sure your file is named correctly? I use MyPhone Explorer to copy files for instance, but instead of overwriting the old file, MPE renames the new one, so it's better to backup & delete the original CHAT.nfx first, then copy the custom file.
Cheers!

So... the bitrate setting shouldn't cause any problems. I've just played an Amazon mp3 download in GTA, IIRC that's 320 kbit VBR or something like that.
How large is your CHAT.nfx? I haven't tried more than the beforementioned 717 MB, and the 9 custom files I'm using now are all between 130 and 200 MB in size.

1. I named the file correctly.
2. The radio station(chatterbox) didnt play anything and it skipped to the "radio off" and after you couldnt change the channel anymore, it was stuck to "radio off"
3. All my mp3's are 128 or higher

Strange. How large is your nfx file? And did you merge your mp3's with MergeMp3? Have you tried copying a single mp3 file as CHAT.nfx to see if it works at all?

My file was 64MB and yes I merged it with mergemp3's. Haven't tried the single file, will give it a go and let you know

Ok, I tried the single file and the same thing happend it skipped to the radio off sign

Right, let's try this:
unzip the attachment to your game dir (mount/sdcard/Android/data/com.rockstar.gta3/files/GTA3/audio), overwriting the existing CHAT.nfx.
This sound file works on my phone. Just for the record, I'm not violating any copyright here, it's a free mp3 I've downloaded from www.steveunruh.com and renamed to CHAT.nfx.
Hope this helps. Btw, which phone model do you have?
Merry Christmas ;-)

Hi, thx for the reply becuase your file worked. The difference is that your file is actually a nfx file, while mine even after renaming it to CHAT.nfx still remains a mp3 file, if you know what I mean. That's the problem. How did you change your mp3 file to nfx file?
Merry Xmas to you too!

UPDATE:
Ok, I got it working now, all I had to do was change the file extension to nfx(folder options and unclicked the hide extensions box)
Thx for all of your help and have a happy New Year as well

Glad I could help, have fun

hey waquzy, i think i could help u a bit, u can change ur mp3 file to nfx, by copying ur song to Winrar file, than rename ur mp3 file, delete .mp3, then type .nfx, the icon will change~, and change the name to any radio station at gta3 if u want~~ hope this help u a bit~

Drag And Drop Video Convertor! Very Useful And Easy!

After helping my brother put videos onto his BlackBerry Pearl, I came across a Batch file that takes ANY type of video and converts it to the proper format for the BlackBerry to play on the WMP that comes with it.
I didn't want to hunt for a way to convert the videos to the proper format for the dash so I tried the batch file for hte BlackBerry Pearl and it WORKED! All you need to do is drag the video to the batch file and drop it and it will work on its own!
The only thing is that you need TCPMP to play the videos and it looks PERFECT!
Download TCPMP here: DashSmartZone - TCPMP Download
Another thing you need to work with the Batch file is a program called SUPER. You don't even need to EVER open this program up for it to work with the batch file.
Another great tool is this video grabber. It allows you to download any video you find on most video sites onto your desktop!
Check it out here.
After you have downloaded the TCPMP and installed it into the Dash and downloaded SUPER onto your computer, Follow the following steps to create the Batch File:
1. Create a new text file on the desktop, and paste the below code to it.
2. You will need to adjust the paths below. The first one is the path to SUPER mencoder.exe(IF YOU INSTALLED SUPER INTO C:/Program Files/ THAN SKIP THIS STEP).
3. The second adjustment to the code below is the path to where you want the converted videos to go into.
4. Save this as Convert Video.bat or whatever you desire.
After the batch file is created just drag and drop the video you want to convert and thats it!
The script will take a file "my_video.mpeg" and re-encode it for the Dash moving it to the assigned folder and naming it "my_video.avi
Enjoy!
Code:
@echo off
echo %1
C:\Progra~1\eRight~1\SUPER\mencoder\mencoder.exe -vf scale=320:240 %1 -o "D:\Profiles\w13760.FSL\Desktop\Video\%~n1.avi" -of avi -ofps 24 -ovc lavc -oac lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=250:acodec=mp3:abitrate=64
PAUSE
i cant get super to download...can u post direct link?

The path name to the designated folder for the converted vidz goes in the spot where it says "D:\Profiles\w13760.FSL\Desktop\Video\" Change it to whatever you want.
Where do you drop the video file? Im kinda lost
You grab the Video you want converted and you drag it to the Batch file. You drop it onto the ACTUAL Icon that is your Video Converter and it will work its magic.

Custom Ringtones setting ???

guys, i have few MP3 & few OGG files which i was using them as ringtones on my previous phone.
in SGS2, i dont know how i can set custom ringtones.... i saw some OGG files in system/media/audio/ringtone folder through root explorer.
i tried copying OGG files into that folder, it allowed me. but when i went to settings/sounds/ringtone.... there it doesnt show up the newly added file...
what should i do ? is it possible to use custom ringtone on SGS2 ? if yes, how & in what format the SGS2 recognises music files....
pls let me know.... i am waiting
Hmmm think the fastest way on a clean phone would be to just play the song in the media player and then "menu > set as > phone ringtone"
Think you can also set then using kies.
Mind you I've only used mp3's so not sure if this also goes for OGG files.
hope it's somewhat usefull
Copy Ringtones to folder System/Media/ringtones . I use super manager .
Format .ogg .
Exit reboot phone .
Go to setting sounds phone ringtone scroll down and then back up for ringtone select new ringtone .
Tested working 1100 21/05/11

You can actually put them in any partition, even on the memory card, you don't have to root so long as you put them in the correct folder:
Ringtones
/media/audio/ringtones/
Alarms
/media/audio/alarms/
Notifications
/media/audio/notifications/
I believe that any audio format that the phone can support may be used
thanks guys, i played the file & in the options i set it as ringtone. that played the trick. after choosing that mp3/ogg file as default ringtone, it showed up in sound/phone ringtone setting.... till then it was not so...
thanks for you help...
it would have been better to search for list of music files from default ringtone settings....i wish.... its okay....

You don't even need the media/audio/ folders.
My sd card just has the last folder name, and any files in there show up in the relevant selection menus.

PSXperia questions

ok guys thanks for all the insight
figured out how to do it
now MY biggest question he he
i installed gran tur 2 successfully everything works great
now anyone tried to use a game save? downloaded from the net
i downloaded this
can i make it work somehow
better yet if you save a game using the native emulator
where does it get saved to? internal or sd? and where is it ?
dam it i read that its under save and its either 0.raw or 1.raw
but everytime that i take the game save i uploaded and rename it to 0.raw or 1.raw i tried it on ff7 this time i tried to load the save it says "want to format it now" and it doesnt work
- Copy your apk first
- Install the apk
- Copy the data folder
- Run the game
- Preferences.xml will be generated
- Now you can edit it
Dont edit the preferences in the Carsh Bandicoot folder, as this will obviously edit the preferences for Crash Bandicoot
You want to edit preferences.xml for the game you wish to change preferences for. eg If you have 5 games installed, there will be 5 different preferences.xml, each stored in the corresponding directory.
Image convertor is nice, but all i do is open my picture up in paint, resize to 170 x 170 then save as a .png
Simple as hell
For trouble free just copy com. Sonystation. NxcaXXXXX_1 to sd/Android /data
I used the XDA App to post this, what did you use?
thanks guys for all the help
I've done 5 games, all work perfectly. I generated the apk and zpak data, copied the apk from my computer to sd card, and copied the data to the android/data/XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX folder. Install the apk then run it and it should work fine.

[FIX] How to loop your MP3 ringtones

Simply head over to this website:
http://audio.online-convert.com/convert-to-ogg
Upload your MP3, it converts it to OGG format and then drop this into your ringtones folder and it will now loop!
You can also download a ringtone maker. Cut your mp3 to the sound you want make it as long as you want and save as ringtone, or different tones. Its a lot easier.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
I'm not sure at all that your .ogg-ringtone will loop. Read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1390644

mp3 -> 3ga extension change worked and loops normally on my core prime SM-G360T:
the extension for samsung phone to recognize in Ringtones folder seems to be ogg
but in my ringtones folder, the device ringtone menu would only show added files with the 3ga format
but i did not see any good options online for converting mp3 to 3ga,
but i saw something online about just changing the file extension from mp3 to 3ga
did that, copied it to phone, then used Root Browser app to put file into
system\media\audio\ui\ringtones folder
then selected it from Ringtones option
then called my phone from another phone to verify that ringtone loops when another phone calls it
not sure if would work on all phones tho

Besides converting the mp3 to ogg I had to add a tag/field called “ANDROID_LOOP”, and set it to “true”. I used foobar2000 on Windows to do this. In foobar2000 drag the .ogg file to the playlist window, right-click the file and select "Properties" context-menu item and in the "Metadata" tab scroll to the bottom of the list and click on "+ add new" (or click CTRL + N). Enter ANDROID_LOOP and set it to true.
For more details see this page.
Oh, you can extract a part of your mp3 file to use as a ringtone using ffmpeg, as follows:
ffmpeg -i input.mp3 -map 0 -c copy -ss "00:40" -to "00:50" out.mp3
This will copy from position 00:40 (0 minutes and 40 seconds) to postion 00:50 in "input.mp3" and write the result to "out.mp3". Then convert the mp3 to ogg and add the ANDROID_LOOP field (setting it to true) as described above.

You can also have them on sdcard
1.create on your sd card root folder "media"
2. inside media create folder "audio"
3. and inside audio create "alarms", "notifications", "ringtones"
now you can put your music files into folder to have them
as notify sound, alarm or ringtone
OP, also add that the music/sound files have to be in a .ogg format.
well my sound files are in mp3 format and i dont have problem with them
