[Q] ScreenShot App For Deck's ICS Alpha? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I just installed Deck's Alpha8 of ICS, and wow is it Phenomenal. One question though, I have downloaded like different screenshot apps and all of them have foreclosed or not even started, does anyone know of one that will work, really want to get some nice Screenshots of this awesome alpha build.

You can turn on USB debugging and use one of the tools in the android SDK. Can't remember what It's called but it starts with a d. Google "how to take a screenshot with android SDK."
Edit: once you have the SDK. It's in the tools folder. It's called DDMS.exe
my evo is aggressively runny

sweet i didnt know i could do that, will definetly help for when i get out of work and at home to a real computer
any other way to do this from just the handset?

Power and Home button at same time might work..Depends on phone and Rom if its "baked" in.

Just hold down the power button and an option for taking a screen shot will be there. I think it saves under the DCIM folder, but don't quote me on that.

I love you all!!!!

It's actually ddms.bat. I wasnt at a computer when i told you before. just needed to clarify.
Edit: When phone is plugged in and you have opened the program, hit screen capture under the Device menu.

You could always use the Android SDK to take screenshots. Go HERE.
I've been using drocap2, it works pretty well. You just click start, navigate to where you want to take a screenshot, then shake the phone. Stores the files in /sdcard/drocap.
I use "ShootMe" works the same as described above. Leave it running in the background, just shake the phone to take the screen shot. Saves it on the SD card.
Not really sure why you don't like shootme? Launch and shake..doesn't get much simpler than that really.

Yeah I also use ShootMe and its perfect.
Haven't tried shootme, but drocap2 works great for me. Always running in the background, customizable activation methods (shake, timer, or notification bar). I use notification bar. Pull the shade down, hit drocap2, wait a few seconds, screen shot taken and saved to its own folder on the sdcard.
Thank You
Shootme works great Thank you for the suggestion!!! Loving it
shootme is great except it makes a camera noise every time you take a screenshot which is annoying and sometimes embarrassing if you're playing with your phone while in a public restroom.

Anyone else having any problems after the OTA update?
I can no longer use ShootMe or dropcap They were both listed for rooted devices only, but they worked prior to the update. Now, neither works.... Anyone have any suggestions??

That's because the OTA update fixed the giant security hole that allowed some programs that required root (like ShootMe) be fully usable while unrooted.

(Req) App to route a volume button to camera

Would be nice to be able to have a hard key for the camera. I always thought I just had to have a front facing camera. But I hardly ever use it. Quality to low for me. I'd pay sum good $ for a way to do this. Is it even possible
seconded. Asked for this awhile ago from the guy that was making all those sweet zip mods but i guess he never figured it out.

Here you go bud, unzip and push the file inside to /system/usr/keylayout and enjoy having Volume Up or Search key as a camera button! Should work on any ROM. Please note these files are NOT signed, if someone would like to sign them for me that would be great!

Well if you have Root Explorer, you can copy paste, but you need to adb push it if not. Just run
Code:

adb push /system/usr/keylayout/
adb reboot

Yes you do lose the function of them, but some people don't care, but for the ones that do i added the search button one, because i know lots of people don't use/want it.
Here try these.
retro camera app in the market lets you do this but it doesn't let you take full 8mp pictures... maybe you could pull that apart and see how its done then we could possibly see about making a new camera app that allows the larger images? just a thought
Bmx I tried the second one you posted. It does the same to the buttons. After reboot they won't work. It does do Sumpin tho , when I press volume up it makes the center frame turn blue like its gonna do the auto focus thing but then nuthin happens. I appreciate your help

[Tips]Desire buttons: undocumented features

Hey, i am going to maintain here a list of all thing which can be pressed and trigger some events in special occasions. I only know about two yet, thats where the community drops in. Post your find here and i will put it in this list.
Reboot
Hold Vol-Down, Trackpad and press Power
Reboots the system! Instant!
Prerequesite: Kernel must be loaded, so does not work the first few seconds after power on.
Warning:This does not unmount your sd-card or unlock any system files. Its basicly the same as removing the battery and should only be used in case your system crashed and does not react anymore. Think of it as a reset button on your PC, which you wouldnt press as long as windows runs fine.
Credits: myself
Bootloader/HBoot
Hold Vol-Down and press Power
Starts the phone and brings you to HBoot Menu
Prerequesite: Phone must be off for this to work
Notes: Navigate through HBoot/Fastboot with vol-up, vol-down and power as select button
Credits: myself
Bootloader during reboot
Hold Vol-Down and wait
Brings you to HBoot Menu
Prerequesite: Phone must be rebooting.
Notes: Make sure to press Vol-Down early enough. Must be pressed in before the boot-splash-image. Navigation, see above.
Credits: myself
Android safe mode
While phone boots, press and hold menu
starts up android in safe mode.only system apps are started, 3rd party apps are ignored
Prerequesite: None
Notes: You have too hold menu for a long time, from power on nearly until sim code dialogue
Depending on the rom you use, there is a small chance, it won't work, or the rom won't start.

Nice, the reboot trick is quite useful.
Thanks,
I know this one but I think it is common for Android. When your phone is off. Push menu button then power. Don't release menu until you see a message on bottom left of the screen. This mode is secure I.e. it loads only software of the ROM without 3rd applications.

By the way that reboot is not graceful. i.e. your sdcard is not properly dismounted and open files are not closed. It is the same as a battery pull, so I would only use if your phone it totally locked up ...

I would agree and would also suggest that the OP put a warning about this in the 1st post. This reboot method should really only be used as a last resort...
One more (probably well known) function is long-pressing the Menu key to bring up the soft keyboard. It used to work even on the homescreen, but it no longer does ever since Froyo. It will works elsewhere though. Really doesn't serve any purpose, though...
warning added. i am a bit surprised, there are not more combinations. seams we got them all now. wouldnt have started this topic, if i knew its only such few things.

The reboot could come in handy!

Remove Top Bar with Verizon Wireless Banner from Notification Pull down

i pulled this from my rom it should work for you.
do a nand back up first
adb push the status_bar_expanded.xml (attached) to the
framework-res.apk
just replace status_bar_expanded.xml its the /res/layout-hdpi folder of the apk.
just rename the attached file so it does not have .txt at the end
let me know if it works
Thanks. I'll try it in a bit. Also what happens to the clear button that is on the right of Verizon wireless when there is an active notification?

heres a picture of the notifications bar from my rom
its kinda hard to see but
the part that says red raven is just the .png file
normally it says verizon wireless where it says red raven
so it would look just like it does but no verizon wireless txt
everything should stay the same. (i think)
you could pull the status_bar_expanded.xml from the rom you are using so you can just push it back if the one i gave you doesnt work.
Nooo. Lol sorry I worded the subject bad. So basically I wanted to remove that whole bar completely. I'm running Myn's rls4 and it has the power controls in the pull down and basically I wanted to replace that area with the power controls.

[ROM][ALPHA III] ICS AOSP Build

QUICK UPDATE:
Installing chainfire3d and using their "nvidia shader driver" fixes alot of games e.g. Angry Birds! (thanks to scottcom who sent me the tip via pm!)
This is a very simple ICS build using the Andromadus repo + Google AOSP code (rather than CM). This is just a quick update because we got the hw accel hack working
WORKING:
HW Accel (hack version i.e. not natively)
WiFi (TAKES TIME TOTURN ON)
Data
Calls
Superuser
Full Keyboard/Orientation
Audio
Basic ICS
Bluetooth
NOT WORKING:
GPS
Full Accel
etc.
NOT TESTED:
SD Card
FM Radio
most things

I'll probably flash this ROM as a DD when it has 3G or real HW acceleration working, whichever comes first GJ so far though, I'll probably give it a whirl to see how it is later tonight, compare it to the port maybe in terms of speed and such
First off, here's how I flashed:
1. Superwipe
2. Flashed Rom
3. Flashed Odie kernel
4. Flashed gapps
5. fixed permissions
It booted really fast and looks absolutely clean. I immediately connected to data, but not wifi - even though the connection is strong here. My data says 3G, but could be HSPA, and I jumped on the browser just to double check. It worked.
Things I noticed:
Scrolling is choppy, but I know that's easily fixed.
The market would not download (as expected), so I ran the fix via adb. When I tried Market again, it froze the phone and I had to do a battery pull.
The home button is not working so well. Takes 3-4 pushes to get it to work, it's easier to just to use the back button.
Didn't get a chance to look at much else after the phone froze.
I really appreciate you posting this up. I know you've been working hard and probably waiting for something that can be played with, and you got that here. Thanks again, I 'll post more impressions in a bit.

I'd suggest installing setCPU or something similar to check those lockups, as there was a known(ish) issue in the port with Odie's kernel clocking too low (at 122 mhz) so if you could bump that up and also see what the upper end is? I'll probably do it myself eventually, and since I'm super lazy ill just pack the apks for titanium and setCPU into the app folder of the ROM itself and give it a whirl haha
My wifi works but the icon doesn't show up so its as if I have no connection. My home button is also bugged.
Edit: Also the gallery apo doesn't work and the messaging app seems to be missing

Rom runs good for an alpha
- The Homebutton ( i know this is known ) but it seems like its reacting like a back buttons sometimes.
- I often get a red border when tapping next in a menu or install in the market.
- SDcard works but no mass storage on pc
Edit 2: the : and ; are not located at the fn button but at the shift button.
So far i already like this better then de Desire S port
Edit: I have no messaging app, anybody else who hasn't?
Edit 3: I tried buttonremapper to try and remap the home button but no luck

No not having problems with it being to warm. Running it now since my post and still no problems except the usuals.
And about the homebutton, it also looks app related. For example in whatsapp it just does nothing, but in the browser it reacts as a back button.
Seems like someone in the desire s port thread fixed the home button. But i found something new with the hw kayboard. Capital d doesn't work.
