Samsung Offers Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Upgrade for GALAXY devices
first quarter 2012.
Samsung Electronics plan to provide the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for GALAXY devices. The platform update for GALAXY S II and GALAXY Note will start in the first quarter 2012, and other GALAXY devices will soon follow.
The ICS-upgradable devices are the GALAXY S II, GALAXY S II LTE, GALAXY Note, GALAXY R, GALAXY Tab 10.1, GALAXY Tab 8.9, GALAXY Tab 7.7, and GALAXY Tab 7.0 Plus.
For upgradable models, Samsung will make separate announcements on details of OS updates schedule for each market according to market situation and carriers’ requirements.
Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and Samsung GALAXY Nexus, the first Ice Cream Sandwich powered smartphone, were first unveiled at a Google/Samsung joint news conference in Hong Kong on October 19th.
Ice Cream Sandwich brings an entirely new look and feel to Android. It has a redesigned user interface with improved multi-tasking, notifications, Wi-Fi hotspot, NFC support and a full Web browsing experience. Ice Cream Sandwich also features a new People App which lets users browse pictures, messages and social network updates from friends, family and co-workers.
Ice Cream Sandwich also introduces innovations such as Face Unlock, which uses facial recognition to unlock the smartphone. Using NFC technology, Android Beam allows users to quickly share Web pages, apps and YouTube™ videos with friends by simply tapping two phones back-to-back. Users can even use fun effects while shooting video or video chatting with Google Talk™.

Doesn't mean much since carriers ultimately decide when to push it out but at least samsung has made the announcement.

speaking as an original epic 4g owner, this doesn't make me feel any more confident that our phones will get an ICS upgrade.
unless you followed the whole gingerbread debacle w/the epic 4g, it's really hard to explain how little sprint and/or samsung cares about giving us an android upgrade. They seriously just do not care.
I've learned that the Sprint Epic 4g is different from the intl galaxy phones. Period. It might as well not even be called a "galaxy" anything.
It wont surprise me at all to see ICS available on the intl Galaxy S2 phones a year or so before it comes to the Sprint Epic 4g Touch. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if we never get the upgrade. seriously... I know that sounds crazy but if you look to the original Epic 4g for precedent, announcements that a "Galaxy S2" phone will get ICS means nothing for the Sprint Epic 4g Touch.
When I bought the epic 4g touch, i asked myself "would i be happy with this phone if this was the only version of android i'll ever get?" and decided yes, so i bought it. That should really be the standard for deciding whether to buy a phone from samsung.
I'll be happily surprised if i'm wrong though (and hope I am...)

That doesn't apply to us. From history with Samsung and sprint, the Samsung phones on Sprint just don't get updated. Look at the moment and the epic.

I know! ha... i know i play with my phone too much already and this is a sad statement but it was kinda of a mini emotional rollercoaster. please dont laugh.

I am staying confident that we will see an update for our phones in a timely fashion. People need to stop talking about the Epic 4G already, it is getting old.
If you have any friends on Verizon who bought the HTC Thunderbolt, it was released with Froyo and they just recently got GB. Should that mean that HTC doesn't update their phones either?
The Epic 4G touch is in a league of it's own and it is a flagship phone and Samsung knows they are being looked under a microscope right now as far as updates are concerned.
The Epic 4G was never what the Epic 4G touch is and should not even be looked at in the same manner...
I also don't think it will be Sprint who holds up the update and if it is, we shouldn't see the EVO 3D getting updated either. If the 3D gets it's update it will surely not be Sprints fault if the E4GT doesn't get it...
The only thing that makes me skeptical with the announcement is would they have listed the Epic 4G touch separate from the SGS2 like they did with the LTE version, or do you think they are grouping our phone in there with it?

CNET did a great article on phone updates last summer. According to the article, the manufacturers produce the updates and the carriers test and then approve or disapprove them.

it sounds like you're looking forward to ICS on the epic 4g touch- and I am too. My comment wasn't so much saying "samsung sucks, you ain't ever gonna get ICS"- I was just trying to communicate to the OP that there really is no relationship between announcements that "ICS is going to the Galaxy S2" and whether ICS will come to our phone.
I agree that the Epic 4g is an old phone NOW but it wasn't at all old when Gingerbread came out. I think it was out for like, five months? around there, when gingerbread came up. Gingerbread was out for over a year before it came to the Epic 4g. I disagree with you that the Epic 4g Touch plays a bigger role in the Spring phone lineup now, as compared to the Epic 4g when it first came out. Seriously, when the Epic 4g came it, it was Sprints flagship phone. It was in all the commercials, it was the mac daddy... If anything, I would argue they play the exact same role in Sprint's lineup now. If anything, the Epic 4g Touch plays less of a prominent role b/c Sprint go the iPhone a few weeks after the Epic 4g Touch came out.
I also like your points regarding HTC- but seriously, HTC does a MUCH better job of upgrading their phones than Samsung. I think I saw some study somewhere but I cant find it now so I'll drop it but- I only wished Samsung did just as good of a job updating their phones as HTC does.
anyways- my last point on this topic. I would really like to see ICS on our phones but I do not look to "galaxy s2" update announcements and think "oh, that includes my phone"

The OG epic wasn't the commercial success the Galaxy S line is. Samsung would be stupid to not capitalize on the momentum they are achieving in the mobile space with both Android and WM7. If they really wanted to show how committed they were to Android and the Galaxy line, they would make the ROM's available even if Sprint is going to do there thing.

I think were gonna get a kanged version of cm9 this week actually in reference to he who shall not be mentioned twitter.

Sorry if this has been mentioned or a obvious question, but ICS update has NFC? I thought that was something built into the phone and not with just a update. I know there are NFC SD cards you can buy and something with the cover of the slot can't be metal or something but I didn't think this was possible.

What is ironic is the official stock ROM still random reboots if I'm not mistaken, just not as often as the leaks. And the GPS is completely screwed.
Both problems that were fixed within hours by the incredible devs on the OG Epic. Seriously, I don't know how people use the phone without running custom ROMs. (I often talk customers out of buying the epic, despite having owned one myself and being happy with it, because the stock software is BS).

I tend to think Samsung is going to get these builds out as soon as possible.
Hell there has already been one leak even though it sucks.
Lately sprint has been pretty quick to push out updates once they get their hands on it.

i think the diffrence between the og epic and gingerbread and ics is there was no press release. they seem serious about making this update happen. samsung and sprint could save alot of head aches and let the code get released here. perfected and then give it back to send to peoples device.
hess really needs to get his ear to the street on this stuff.

I mentioned something similar in another thread. The SGS2 is getting much more publicity than OG Epic did. It would be a PR disaster if they didn't update to ICS. They would lose a lot of potential GS3 customers

Should I get the Epic 4g Touch?

Ok so I currently have the nexus s 4g, i am due for an upgrade. I was just curious whether you guys think i should upgrade to the epic 4g touch, or wait for a better phone down the line (galaxy nexus). These are my thoughts:
The epic 4g touch, in many ways IMO, is the best phone out on the market now. I have played around with it in the sprint stores and love it. But I have a few questions...I have read that the Epic touch has NFC technology, is this true? Also are there a lot of nice ROMs for it, i have searched the dev section but really theres no way to tell the quality of ROM by just looking at the pictures and posts. Also do you guys think i should save my upgrade for something thats coming down the line? I have googled searched as much as possible to see if there are any new sprint phones coming down the line and i cant seem to find anything that beats out the epic touch, besides the galaxy nexus which is not even confirmed for sprint yet, and no announcment of a WiMax version so im thinking if sprint even gets it it wont be until they get there LTE network up which will be for a while. Gimme Your thoughts...thanks in advance.
Be patient and wait for the Galaxy Nexus. wait for the news about it, see if they are going to release one for Sprint... if not get the Epic Touch 4g.
No NFC for the epic touch 4g. also, not many roms. development is slow but it will take off with a little more time.
I'd wait for the Galaxy Nexus.

First things first, there's always going to be a newer bigger and better phone coming down the line no matter what phone you buy. Even if you buy a phone on launch day there's always something new in the works. That's technology, its constantly evolving. And don't go chasing fairy tales of a Nexus that isn't even announced to be coming to Sprint. Even if it was it would be an LTE device and that's a long time from now.
As for lack of custom Roms the epic touch hasn't been out all that long so there's only a few custom Roms out. But truthfully there's not much that needs changing or modifying to make this phone awesome. Straight out of the box you won't find much to complain about if anything at all. I was asking myself the same questions and I come to the conclusion that the epic touch is definetely worthy of an upgrade and even worthy of keeping for twenty months. Sprint. LTE. is a ways off so by the time that starts rolling out in a timely fashion, you'll be nearing your next upgrade anyway. Go buy the epic touch and give it a try for a few days. I promise you will not want to return it and go back to your current phone. Trust me on that.
The Galaxy Nexus probably won't come for quite a while so if you're anxious for a new device and don't want to leave Sprint, then the Epic Touch will be great. There are some issues such as loss of signal and no NFC included as stated earlier. I came from the original epic and I upgraded to this one since the next Nexus seemed like it would take a while to get to Sprint.
I was in your situation and decided to go ahead and get the Epic 4G Touch. I haven't had any problems with it at all so far and love the phone. There's lots of development going on for it too if you're into custom ROMs. The Nexus Prime will probably be great, but who knows when we'll see it. Like others have said, there's always going to be something newer on the horizon.
Get it its a beast by th time you think about it. Newer phones will be out just enjoy the now

If you keep waiting for the next best thing, you will never get anything. No one even knows for sure if Sprint is getting the GN
anyway.

Hi I own one and though the phone is great, the Samsung support is non existent. Also with Samsung you have to buy new phone to get the upgrade to the OS. I am waiting for HTC to announce their next sprint phone like Vigor. My experience with HTC has been much better...The only way Samsung with unlearn what they learnt from Apple is to let their sales get affected. I am telling this to everyone who goes ooh aah over my phone.
If you are planning to stay with Sprint and not looking to switch carriers, I would say buy it and enjoy it.

I think the phone is great, despite having left mine for ohhh say 30 mins in a steamy bathroom. No water damage signs inside sprint told me (I didnt tell them what happened obviously) but two weeks later after tons of complaining I got a new one and I am happy as a pig in poo. This "smartphone" maybe because it is my first one, but I can't imagine being without it.
When I purchased it was a couple days after I found out that sprint was getting the iphone, and after about two weeks of hard research (it was released in US MID september to the best of my knowledge) so I am looking forward to spending two years with it now. The two weeks (really 10 days because I rigged it up to work and got extra battery that I had sprint credit to my account.
The old phone already had drop marks and stuff, the new one go a TPU treatment right away and steinheil sgp screen protector 24 hours later. This, IMO is the perfect trio. Size of the iphone IMO is better, thats it. The screen on this thing will wow you with pretty much all you look at, it is fast, every iphone person that sees it LOVES it (ICouldGAF after reading jobs bio - ****), precesses fast, battery is nice, feel nice, fit finish nice. I dont want a metal phone, even though when I dropped it a few times, the edges that were worn looked a heck of alot like some sort of metal and it bent like metal in places, I also read it is somewhere (of course cant find link but maybe somewhere on Samsung site proper)
JC
I would get it. I doubt the galaxy nexus is coming to sprint. This is the best phone out for Sprint and will be for a long time.
Sent From My Evo Killer!!!
I would defintely get it, i came from AT&T's Motorola Atrix(the first one) and it was a great device and still is, had it since launch, but i been wanting a Galaxy S phone. So i decided to go into the sprint store and check out the E4gT, and loved it, the phones that i was tryna decided between were the E4gT and the Evo3d, i didn't want the photon cause i don't really like motorla, and the iphone 4s was too high, plus i really don't like iOS(i love mod'n my devices and u really can't do much with iOS), and the Galaxy Nexus is WAAAAAYYYY OVERRATED, sure it's gonna come with ICS but nobody's gonna keep it stock for long, they'll end up throwing a rom over it, and the devs on the E4gT are active and will keep you happy with enough roms(and updates with them), mods, and themes until ICS comes to the E4gT
But back to the topic at hand, i definitely suggest this phone, buy it, give it a few days before u decide to root it to test it out, stay up to date with the forum and if u decide to root, the instructions are super easy and you'll have plenty of help if u get stuck(eventhough some may give u a hard time) but i'll definitely help u if needed just like i was helped.....now GO FOR IT! lol
Its aight. Once the LOS is fixed (hopefully) it'll be the a great phone to hang on to.
......
when its 100% it is an awesome phone and there isnt one out that Id want more, but because of the bugs me and the wife both slightly wish we waited longer to pick these up or got different phones without the bugs this phone has...
Id say wait for samsung to send out the update to fix the phone, then get it.
I have 3 Sprint phones in my possession right now. This one, the EVO 3D, and the Nexus S 4G. They are all great phones & each has some sort if advantage over the other. The Nexus S, will surely get ICS shortly after the Galaxy Nexus comes out. It is a great little phone. The EVO 3D is a nice phone & with the CM7 alpha on it, it's every bit as fast as the E4GT. HTC has already announced they well be updating it to ICS. The E4GT has a beautiful screen & is fast as hell. It's simple to use, root & also easy to fix if you mess something up from flashing. I would go to the Sprint store & play with these 3 devices & decide for yourself. I don't think Sprint well get the Galaxy Nexus until mid next year. Samsung has not mentioned one that ics is coming to this phone. The others have already said they'll get it.

Sprint has alot more to worry about than making the nexus a priority as their next samsung smartphone offering. They have their hands full with backorders of Epic 4g touches all over. I have been on the phone for a week, try getting one in a rapid fashion when yours malfunctions day 15 - one day after the 14 day trial ends - Jump through hoops. Been a customer since 1997 here....
As far as ICS, I wont hold my breath, what were working with seems well enough, no?

Have EVO 3D, switch to Epic Touch now or wait?

I currently have the EVO 3D and like it a lot. However, I really want to have ICS stock and no longer care about the HTC widgets. I also feel like ICS is optimized for Samsung phones.
With that, should I use my upgrade now for the Epic Touch or is there another phone that I should be waiting for? I know the Touch has only been out for a few months and when I look online, I don't see anything else coming out. If the Verizon Nexus Prime was coming to Sprint in a few months, I would absolutely wait for that.
I just don't want to use my upgrade and regret it later. I feel like phones with buttons are going to be outdated in 6 months and I hate having relics.

I have been sitting on an upgrade for nearly a year. My thing is, after a phones been out for a month or two, you can pretty much get it on craigslist for the same price you would pay for a upgrade, with no contract. I am holding off until ces in january to decide how i will use mine.
I say keep the 3d. You'll have way more rom's to flash and keep you busy till a LTE phone cames around. Not much development for the touch. Things might change once ice cream sandwich drops, but by then LTE will be the phone to get.

We aren't in the dev threads. In fact, this is the Q&A thread... Meant for this kind of conversation. If you don't want to read "ANOTHER THREAD ABOUT THIS", then don't read the thread.
As for the phone, I love my SGSII. However, if you got your hands on an Evo 3D and managed to hold on to your upgrade, I'd wait. Come October we will see the Galaxy SIII. And who knows what we will see between now and then. The PS VITA comes out in Feb with a quad core processor... I can't imagine it will take very long to see phones coming out with similar chipsets.
Plus, it's easy enough to kill Sense if you want to. With a proper root/recovery, you could do anything with that device you so choose. You may have to kill the 3d to do a whole lot with it, but would that honestly be a travesty, if you are considering getting rid of the phone in the first place?

Without knowing what features of a phone are important to you, it is kind of hard to give an intelligent answer. The only thing you mentioned that you want is ICS and this phone doesn't have it.
What matters more to you; screen size, screen quality, build quality, radio strength, devlopment community, etc. Than maybe someone can give you a meaningful answer.
Super AMOLED Plus is reason enough to get the Epic 4G Touch! The screen is beautiful and untouchable. Seriously it's freaking beautiful!! Do you plan on rooting your 3D? I heard there's more roms and development for that phone over the Epic Touch. All I know is that there will be better phones probably by Summer you'll start hearing real stuff about the Galaxy S3. Phones are just getting better and better. I know there will be phones are next year that will blow my phone out the water but I'm happy with what I have until I can upgrade. The Epic 4G Touch is truly a great phone and will totally satisfy your needs (most likely). It also depends on how you like to use your phone. If you depend on having a strong signal, go with the Motorola Photon. My girl has that phone and she gets signal in spots where Verizon phones get dropped calls and signal. If your into multimedia and watching stuff, the Epic Touch is awesome for that.

Touchwiz has grown on me lol.

A lot more developer support on the E3D. Don't get me wrong, we have a number of amazing and dedicated devs for this phone, but you have a lot of options with the Evo
I heard the 3d pictures sucked... I had the regular Evo & I was in love with it...it had a cracked screen tho... Only reason I upgraded was because I lost my phone.

But glad I did I love this phone... When the new photos come out next year I'll just get a2nd line
I got rid of an evo 3d for the epic touch. Its a great upgrade but I did it when it first came out. I'd wait because your phone still holds its own. Remember, the GS2 is from may.
And aosp is no more optimized for Samsung as it is HTC. The gs2 may be faster due to the faster processor and GPU, also lower resolution.

[POLL] Getting SIII or no

So I don't know about all of you TW haters, I like it. I cant wait till the new TW on the SGS3 gets ported to MY ET4G
I will def get the SGS3 when it hits sprint. Until then, I'm sure someone will dump the rom before its released and port it over to us.
after evo 4g and gs2.. i am starting to miss a solidly built phone ... and the plastic gs3 is really not doing it for me.. and the tweaks in TW doesn't really do much to me.. as i might just flash a aokp rom anyways... for the speed.. it will probably end up getting a s4 making the cpu argument moot... plus i think s4 is plenty fast enough..
so right now evo 4g lte leads it for me. because build quality seems much better.. at least metal back (u probably gonna get some poly carb anyways.. because of the antenna penetration properties)... but i fear i MAY HAVE TO wait for iphone 5 announcement to see what they are cooking up with (gasp).. i dont' like their sw.. but their hw is still the best
I'll be getting the SGIII
been through two Samsungs and two HTCs. No problems with the Samsungs and even though the HTCs seems more solid neither lasted (both EVOs). I'm glad I had insurance on my daughters EVO

I might get it but the design is so ugly! I love my epic but the phone looks horrible, I'm so disappointed
I don't know for sure. I love the E4GT, best phone I have ever had or seen in person for that matter. With that said the SIII is a pretty ugly phone with new software, worse screen, and a better cpu. If the SIII wouldn't have a pentile display I would get it. I want one of the new Evo's. I've heard the SLCD screen is very nice if not the best screen out there now. I also like how it has removable battery and sd card expansion, but why did they have to make the Evo 4g LTE soooo god damn ugly. The One X is a beautiful piece of work. Ya ya it only has 16 gb and I have like 25 gb of music on my phone currently. If I switched to AT&T ( I dont even use 2gb of data a month b/c I am on wifi alot) it wouldn't be a thing to use google music with there being 4g lte in my area. Also sprint network isn't horrible in my area (avg like 1mbs dl) but 4g lte would be niceeee. I don't know what to do. Whats the point of upgrading to an LTE phone on sprint if its not going to be in my area until 2014ish. I'll have a new phone by then. Oh and also Ive looking into it At&T and VZ are cost the exact same as sprint.
I think I will pass on this phone. I am happy with my E4GT for the most part. Also the GSIII does not look like a upgrade from the E4GT to me.
I most likely will get the GS3. It really just depends on what the US version and what the Sprint version will look like and what kind of development will entail for it. The Pentile display kind of worries me. Just have to wait for the customer reviews for that one. But my next phone will either be the Galaxy S 3 or the Galaxy Nexus. Again it just depends on what the US/Sprint version looks like and what features it has. Touchwiz doesn't bother me. I can always theme the stock build to look more like ICS.
Is the case made from ceramic like rumor had it or is it plastic?
Unless its confirmed that the note is coming to sprint by the time the EvoOne is released, I'll probably just go with the EvoOne.

I don't really want to, but I will get it. I'm sitting on an upgrade already. Then again in August. So maybe the evo or note. Then again in 2013

I voted yes. I will get it, but not immediately. I have other financial obligations before buying a new phone.
This is why Im staying Samsung... a reply about the new devices
HTC is committed to listening to users and delivering customer satisfaction. Since announcing our commitment to unlockable bootloaders, HTC has worked to enable our customers to unlock the bootloader on more than 45 devices over the past six months. In some cases, however, restrictions prevent certain devices from participating in our bootloader unlocking program. Rest assured, HTC is committed to assisting developers in unlocking bootloaders for HTC devices and we'll continue to unlock additional devices in the future."

Hell no will stick with the epic till the next nexus comes out or lte is out in Miami and I will get a nexus galaxy. Tired of Sammy tw and sense. I do like the one x but sprint is not getting it. Also never bought apple but I feel the iPhone 5 might be amazing.

This is exactly where I am at with my thinking. After all, the GNex is a Samsung and I can always get the S3 down the road. I know Sammys inside and out so if I can get good battery on my NS4G, I am sure I can find a setup that will work for me. I hope I hear more about the Sprint version of the S3 before June 1st though

i dont see why people are complaining about the design of the phone. i think it looks awesome. like many others said i will see what the us/sprint version looks like. then if it meets my expectations i will wait a few months after release so that by the time i get it there is a root and a few custom roms for it out
I'm getting it! I been faithful to Samsung for sometime now. I know how we are treated in the States, but I don't blame Samsung

Before Your Epic 4G Touch & Where you're Headed?

So all of us here are using The epic 4g touch. I was just curious and thought it would be interesting for everyone to state what phone they came from..how they ended up with this phone. And you're future with this phone (keeping it, upgrading, etc) ..please don't say "I'm leaving this phone because it sucks, something is wrong with it, etc) this is just a light friendly topic
And if something is wrong with this thread ..the mods can feel free to remove it..I mean no harm at all
I'll start:
Well I came from the Samsung intercept from Virgin mobile ..had that phone for a while...actually that was my real first smart phone ..I never been a big phone person until I hit xda...anyway me and that phone didn't get along at all lol, so last December (haven't had this phone that long) I was randomly walking past the Sprint store and decided to look at phones..didn't want an iPhone.. so I got the best phone in the store which was this (best decision ever)
My future with this phone, I love it and was going to give my mom this phone since she loves it over her iPhone and get myself a note 2...which will be great because this epic 4g community is awsome and taught me a lot
-TeaM VeNuM Like A Boss
I had the Kyocera Zio from cricket and because my battery was getting to be terrible and did not last any more than 4 hours I decided it was time for an upgrade.
Cricket did not have anything that I was interested in at the time and since I was working for AT&T doing technical support for U-Verse, I was trying to get the Skyrocket, AT&T wanted a crazy deposit even though I was an employee... I walked over to a Sprint kiosk, and told them I wanted the Galaxy S II, they tried selling me an iPhone and I said no, I want the S2. There was a $0 deposit, so I jumped on the deal.

I came from an Evo 3D which didn't suit me very well because of the lack of updates at the time. Plus the 3D was useless if no one else I knew had it. I played around with an epic 4g touch. Instantly I fell in love with the design and camera, regardless of the LOS fear 3D users used to keep people from jumping. Now my future is that I'm jumping over to a Galaxy nexus but still keeping up with the E4GT since my brother and friends own it.
I also came from the samsung intercept, which was also my first real smart phone. That thing never had anything good for me. Before that I had a rant and a rumor, both which were also terrible phones. I only got this phone June 1st of this year because that's when my contract was finally up and my parents made me buy my own phone. (I'm only 18) I was looking at the phones at sprint months before my upgrade, and reading up on the ones I liked. I finally decided on this because one it just looks amazing, two all the reviews were good and three I figured it would be a good entry level phone for myself. I couldn't be any happier!

HTC Evo until the sprint software upgrade turned it into a turd. I was due for an upgrade, so I got the E4GT. Worked great on GB for a few months until we got OTA to ICS. After *****ing to sprint and Samsung, I saw a post on AC about rolling back to GB. I did that and stayed on GB for about a month, and then started experimenting with other rooms. Once I found this place, I rarely go anywhere else. Although I'm a newbie, everyone seems cool here .

Yes it was one hell of an upgrade from that horrid thing! I actually would like to thank Sprint, or whoever for the ****ty ota update to ICS. If it wasn't for that I would never have ventured into root and custom ROM land. I'm happy I did though, I've been missing out on a lot!

Next I don't know where I'll be going maybe the optimus g note too, or the j butterfly if it comes to sprint, but I'd prefer a Samsung.

Had a Evo 3D, then got the E4GT thanks to Asurion as they gave me a brand new one as a replacement for my 3D, & as of a week ago I've sold my E4GT & used my upgrade to get a GNex, but I'm not really sure yet if I'm gonna keep this or not as I have until the 29th to be able to return it & that's also the same day that Google will announce the new Nexus, but if its the same as we've been reading with only 8 & 16GB models then I'm definitely keeping my GNex.

I had a blackberry tour and I have to say that it was great but battery was in a way awful. I went to sprint after my contract with the mentality (95%) of getting an iPhone but i saw a phone with a huge display and awsome colors. My metality dropped by about 50% in about 2 minutes. Make long story short, ended up leaving with an epic 4g touch:thumbup:. I will be upgrading to the galaxy s4 whenever it comes out. Hopefully it comes out before i can upgrade in June next year. Note 2 just looks to big for a phone and I like to use my phone in one hand. Easier to swype on tapatalk. I will stick with any Galaxy forever and ever and ever. I have had a great experience.

Came from the evo 4g only reason I got the epic 4g touch was because I messed up and lost my wimax keys with so much flashing I did and never had a nandroid so I was stuck on 3g and couldn't take it no more so brought a e4gt off Craigslist lol. My upgrade been up since June and after checking out the battery stats post in the note 2 forum I'm thinking on jumping on that beast lol 8-10hrs screen on is insane lol.
BTW Miguel I seen you lurking in the note 2 thread

I came from the HTC EVO 4G. I loved that phone and would have kept it longer if I didn't drop it and shatter the screen at work. I had my upgrade waiting for the EVO LTE but then I seen Apple (the Devil) cause it to get held up in customs and I needed a new phone quick.
I went to Best Buy (no need for rebates) to get the Galaxy Nexus for Sprint but they didn't carry it for Sprint. I seen they had the Epic 4G Touch for $100 so I jumped on it!
My nest device will be another HTC, can't wait to see what they come up with in 2 years lol. Although buy that time I'm sure Samsung will have the Galaxy S V.
So I guess I just have to wait til my upgrade and see whats out by then. Tech changes so much in such a short time.

Had a couple of decent LG phones with verizon(chocolate and voyager LULZ) before getting my first real smartphone. The Huawei Ascend from MetroPCS. That was short lived due to how laggy it was. If I had seconds to live and a call to make...well, I would've died lol
I do take my E4GT for granted looking back..my future with this phone is an upgrade if the next nexus rumors hold true. Not due for an upgrade till June though.

Asurion claim

My epic 4g touch was cool when it was new since it was so different. Once the newness wore off, I have been missing HTC ever since. The reception has always been bad, it gets laggy on strange things, and now even after wiping battery stats my phone will go from 50% battery straight to 0. It's time for an insurance claim anyway, but has anyone heard of Asurion switching s2's for an evo 4g lte, or maybe even a new photon? I would just buy one, but I'm still 6 months from a $75 off upgrade. Just checking because I saw some posts from August about Asurion forcing people to take an OG evo 4g.
Call them and ask them what other devices they might be able to offer you rather than the SGS2. I doubt they will budge and give you an evo LTE because LTE and price different according to them ins't in the same Tier as WiMax devices. Just saying what they told me and others many times.
Doubt it. Asurion's exchange list is almost always similar to ours, and currently for the E4GT that consists of the evo 3d and OG photon.

An og photon I might actually go for. I had a good run with Asurion before. I went from a palm treo, to a mogul, to a touch pro, then to a touch pro 2 all through insurance. My plan is to try and do my half upgrade in June when the new 5" HTC phone launches, assuming sprint will get it. I'm just trying to jump Samsung ship before then.
A month ago my wife's Verizon droid charge (garbage phone) was smashed. Since they replaced 3 under warranty they gave her a galaxy nexus which is a massive upgrade! The first two people we talked to would not do it. The 3rd did do it. In that case They might upgrade you. Since you have an epic no. Flash GA10 and you will enjoy. I had the power button fail on my epic that is over a year old. Ive flashed it a bizillion times. Its been with me at work and family trips. Its been great. So I paid the $100 and had a new one sent. It was brand new, never opened 12-2-2012 build. Im loving it. In no way am i saying try to switch phones! As i just spent money to keep mine. E4GT!
Not all phones are created equal. My "old" e4gt has always been "solid" with wifi/3g/4g. My sister's old e4gt on the other hand not so great.

I love this phone and the xda community is awesome & very helpful to everyone. Sprint was going to let me upgrade early to the s3 but i opted out cause this phone is kick ass. Jelly bean leaks really brought out the potential of this exynos processor. I in no way was intending on talking people into switching phones. Sorry if it came out that way. My last epic was 14 months also I loved it & I Still do. I received a new one today and it has me just as excited as I was nov 2011 when I first purchased this phone.
