[Q] If I change launchers will Touchwiz still run in the background? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Greetings, sorry for the noob question but my last android phone was a Samsung Moment and that had just the stock launcher. If I download and install a different launcher like say Launcher Pro, will the Touchwiz launcher still run in the background? If so, can I use Titanium backup to freeze Touchwiz or will that cause problems?
Thanks.

Not sure if it will run in the background but I freeze it with titanium and am fine so far. I completely removed it from my sgs4g with no issues.

Thank you very much. Just not feeling touchwiz.

It won't actively run in the bg.
Feel free to freeze or uninstall.

What do you mean I should be addressing this problem on the Bamboozled forums...or they have already talked about this on the other site?

I was going to wait for a theme or 2 to come out and for the CRT and overscroll glows but I might as well since I'm hearing so many good things about it

Wow that worked like a charm...smooth as ever with no reloading...much appreciated!
Does this only apply to that particular ROM? Also, does making it a system app in Titanium do the same thing?
Thanks,
Lee

I don't think so...I've experienced it on a smaller less frequent scale even running EG22...I think it has somthing to do with less RAM being available in Gingerbread...and I also have a lot of apps (100+) installed...could that be apart of the problem?

In Launcher pro I select to keep in memory on the preferences and it works fine not reloading. without it would reload as you describe quite often.

I think we can cross that source off the checklist because I'm still having the issue even though more sparingly on EG22....Bamboozle is a great ROM.

If you're rooted you can use Titanium Backup to delete pretty much any apk on your phone. I personally recommend the Pro version because you have the ability to freeze apps too. That way you can freeze an app for a day or so to make sure your device runs okay without it and then uninstall it after that with no worries of bricking your phone. As for live wallpapers, those you can delete regardless, as far as I know, none of them are tied to anything important on your phone, i remove them pretty much with the install of every new rom.
Thanks.......

You can just uninstall the live-wallpapers, I meant that using the freeze function on TiBackup was good for when you are wanting to delete an actual app but aren't sure if it's gonna mess up your phone, that way you can freeze it to make sure your phone still works fine and then delete it later. Just make sure it's a live wallpaper you are deleting.

[Q] CM9 Problems

I have 4 problems with CM9 alpha 4.
1.I can't move/organize any of my apps around in the app drawer.
2.I can't setup up the face unlock, I tried but it just doesn't work
3. Every time I download a new app it makes a shortcut on the home screen.
4.The clock app always force closes.

1. Get a different launcher, google nova launcher I think it has that ability.
2. You need to be in a clear place with plenty of light for facelock to configure and needs to be there for a good amount of time.
3. Go into the market go into settings and uncheck auto add widgets.

Thank you so much, but I already tested Nova Launcher, and I still cant edit my apps in the drawer.
It also helps to read the CM9 threads like the Tip Sharing thread in General if you don't want to wade through all the posts in the Development thread. The market tip was one of the first ones posted.

golauncher ex will allow you to organize and even hide apps. it will use a little more battery to also have it running, but its worth it IMO

Swift keyboard issues.

I downloaded the swift keyboard app since I like it more than the Samsung standard keyboard.
My issue is that even tho I set the swift keyboard as default, when I restart my phone, it will always revert back to samsung. Any ideas how to stop this?

I always use Titanium Backup to freeze or uninstall the stock keyboard. So I've never had a problem with this.

Disabling bloatware

Sorry if this is posted somewhere, but I have read and searched and wasn't able to find anything.
I have an SGH-I317 running stock 4.1.2 rooted and would like to know if there is a list of which stock apps can be safely disabled without causing problems with other apps.
This is my first android device as I have been an iPhone user since the very first one launched up until 2 months ago I made the switch. I'm very happy with the phone, I just would like to know which factory installed apps can be disabled without causing problems with other apps.
Any info is greatly appreciated!

No list to my knowledge. ..
Use titanium backup pro and freeze the apps you wish to remove one by one and test.
Most ATT apps can be dumped without issues, and freezing them is safe in case you need them.
You need root of course. ..g
Is there a difference between freezing them and disabling them?
I know disabling them 'hides' them from the app drawer. Does freezing them do the same?

Freezing makes it so that the android system cant see it i believe disabling just makes it stop running and removes the icon
I found this after some more searching, it is for the s2 / s3 but is a pretty good to go on list for other samsung devices as well.

I haven't went with titanium pro yet.
It's on my wish list of apps to buy.
I just went with disabling the at&t apps for now. I've tried a few custom ROMs which had the bloatware removed but there was always something missing that I liked from the stock ROM. (I don't mind some of the Samsung apps)
Plus being new to android I'm still learning what it does and how it does it so I'm nervous to use custom ROMs until I'm more comfortable with what's going on with my device. It's a bit of a shock to the system going from iOS for 6 yrs to android.
Overall I'm happy with the switch so far.

I am still stock... unrooted. Hide the bloats and you won'y really feel the 'pain' too much until you are more confident of what you are doing. I experience no lag with all my bloats hidden. I didn't even bother to disable them. Phone is still smooth as butter.

Same. Stock and not rooted. The bloat isn't insane on the Note2 so I think I'll stay stock as long as possible.

Disabling apps does in fact keep them from running.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
I know disabling them does. Someone had mentioned hiding them so I was asking if hiding them prevents them from running in the background. I'm pretty sure it doesn't but wasn't positive.
I took the disabling route because it hides the apps as well as completely turning them off.
