[Q] How do you make a shortcut to the WiFi settings on the desktop? [RESOLVED] - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

How do you make a shortcut to the WiFi settings on the desktop? In the other Android, we were able to make shortcuts to any setting, was that removed in ICS?

Go to widgets. There is a widget called Settings shortcut.Move it to your homescreen and you are going to have the menu of available settings. The last one is Wifi

Oh, so that's how it's done now. THANKS!

Hmmm, I noticed that there are no "direct" shortcuts available anymore, is this true?
Kinda sucks cuz I use Simi Clock and wanted the battery launcher to open up the Battery Setting screen.

I use widgetsoid to add toggles to the notification bar, which will also launch wifi settings directly when pressed. (or any other setting you want) it has a widget too.

tons of 3rd party apps that also do this and a better job also

[Q] shortcuts on the home screens?

Been playing with my new phone for less that 24 hours. Something has been bothering me and I don't know if I am going crazy or not. Where did the shortcuts go? on gingerbread when you long pressed on the home screen you had the option to do widgets, and also application shortcuts... I don't know where those are now since widgets are now in the app drawer. Did they kill the shortcut in ICS?
they did, but somehow you can still do it since people have said they have desktop visualizer and folder organizer working.
If anyone knows how to do it please share.
Hold down on app icons in the main app directory. Widgets are also in this directory by using the widget tab at the top of the directory or swiping right beyond the apps.

That will just add a shortcut to the app on the main screen. I am looking for info on how to activate the shortcuts that some apps have. IE with touchdown email you can have a shortcut to your inbox... I can't find that functionality in ICS.
EDIT: Nevermind, misunderstood. No delete function here?
Most of the shortcuts seem to now be classified under Widgets. If a third party app is missing a shortcut it should have then that app will probably need to be updated for ICS.

I am on JB 4.2.1 and I have just downloaded "Touchdown" software to understand your problem because I never used this software
Anyway, maybe what you want to do can be accomplished by a Widget called "Touchdown for Smartphone" (1x1). I have selected it, placed it on the main screen then it asked me to "Select the shortcut you want to add".
I hope this solves your issue

Power Control Widget Settings?

Is there any place to change what options are on the Power Control widget? I've found settings to be kind of a pain on this phone so far...
I was having problems setting up Google Voice to control my voice messages. I kept getting "network is not currently supported for automatic set up". All I wanted to do is find where in the settings menu the Voicemail setting was...Why did they hide it in with the "Phone" app rather then in the actual phone settings menu? Took so long to figure that one out lol...
Yeah moving the voicemail was kind of silly. You can customize whats on the power widget by using a app named Widgetsoid.
https://market.android.com/details?...rch_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5qaW0yIl0.
No really, not a different customizable widget...
Is there a way to change the settings on an already configured Power control widget?
I used to go about adding a new widget and deleting the old one, but that gets tedious.
I thought I found the existing widget settings somewhere when I updated to cm7.2 but now I cannot for the life of me find it ANYWHERE
I just want to choose different brightness toggles, but I do not want to go through all of the data / wifi / sync combos again...

I'm on Verizon and it doesn't support automated setup but when I clicked the help it told me to dial *something and that fixed it right up.

Just use something like widgetsoid. The stock Power Control widget has its 5 toggles and can't be changed.
Answered my question!

Thank you for the answer to my question.. I wish the setting could be changed so you didn't have to install another widget control bar.
Question #2: Is it safe to remove the Original Power Control widget .apk so I can get rid of unused apps?
Thanks!

How to hide apps and widgets?

In ICS, is there a way to hide apps that I don't use much, or to hide widgets that I don't use at all in the drawer?
Is there a good app to download to organize widgets in the drawer? I have a lot and most of them, I don't use.
Thanks
For widgets I'm not using I just delete them from the screen (hold 2 secs, drag to the bin at the top) - that doesn't delete the programs you can always re-add them from the home menu if you change your mind.
Hide app shortcuts - drag them on top of each other so there's one drawer for the lot.

You can disable apps you don't use. Can't really do that with individual widgets though.

Check out AWDLauncher. You can organize apps into different groups and swipe left and right to switch groups.
If you want to totally hide apps check out Launcher PRO.

as in the "clock" app/widget? just go back into your Settings > Apps and scroll own to the bottom, it'll be grayed out. Click on it and re-enable it.

Thanks. Kinda late though as there are numerous ways of already doing this.

How, without root / flash?
I use Notification Toggle: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.notificationToggle
I think it's the best one because of its customization options and the fact that I can download stock ICS icons for it. Plus, you can add apps (free, included in app) and shortcuts ($0.99 add-on). Like I have the shortcut for my AudioManager Pro Profile list in there and an icon that runs the Lockscreen app (saves pressing the power button to shut the screen off).
I'm not rooted. The only useful thing root would give me is the ability to directly toggle GPS rather than having to go to the settings page, but considering I almost always leave GPS on, I don't really care about that.

+ 1 for that......im using too and it is awesome.....
elixir2 does this also...
I also prefer Notification Toggle over Widgetsoid. Stock icons and the ability to always have it at the top of the notification screen. My only complaint is that it's a little laggy when tapping thru the brightness settings.
I use AoKp to do this without using a app....:beer::beer::beer::beer::beer:

If only I liked AOKP. *sigh*
Thanks for the recommendations, shall have to try these, because besides themes, the notification pulldown with a plethora of settings to play with are what I miss most from MIUI builds on the HD2.

Much easier to install a custom rom than an app right? lol
Anyway, +1 for Notification Toggle. I was using Extended Controls for it but Notification Toggle is much better since it stays on top of other notifications and it also replaces the Battery Widget that I was using to display the battery % in the bar.
so have any of these been updated so that i don't have a constant icon running in my notification bar? i don't know why but that's a dealbreaker for me.
btw, i'm not rooting yet until CM9. temporary solutions without the annoying notification icon?
Thanks OP
Forgot about widgetsoid and how awesome it is. Between this and Nova launcher gestures I now have the perfect setup for my home screen because of this.
Swipe up - brings up the app drawer
Swipe down - brings down the notifications
Home button press while on the homescreen - brings up voice search
Any idea how to change the colour of the battery icon in the status bar using the Notification Toggle app? I want to change it to ics blue.

+1 on this. What's worse is they'll give the option for no icon, but then it just leave a blank spot in the notification bar.............
That's a limitation of Android, so until Google offers a better way, that's how it has to be.

How do you get rid of this widget?!

Hi all.
I am at a loss. Running AOKP (4.0.4) with Nova Launcher. Out of nowhere yesterday, this Power control widget decided to add itself to the notification area. I dont even know how it got there and sure as hell dont know how to get it off of there. I know you can add it to one of the screens but did not know it can be added in that area. Does anyone have any idea where this setting is if it exists? I would like to know how to get rid of it before reflashing the ROM.
I know there is another set of toggles you can add which I had but then I was stuck with 2 power control widgets in the notification area. Thanks.
Try touching the settings button in your notification area
I did but then it adds or deleted another set of toggles on top of that one lol

In your app drawer find "Power Controls" and Uncheck the checkmark in the Notifications widget box, and press the pin button to turn it off in the accessibility menu.
Or
Uninstall the entire app

Thanks, man. That did it. I realized that I hid the app. Once I unhid it and unchecked that checkmark, it went away.
