confirmed htc will not be unlocking bootloader WFS - HTC Wildfire S

sadly just had a email from htc today sayin this
"I can confirm that this update will not allow you to unlock the bootloader of this device with the Bootloader unlock software . Chances are this will not happen, we only plan to allow bootloader unlocking with new and upcoming devices."
so looks like we either have to xtc clip this phone or for someone with more brains then htc to come along and solve this

no one will buy it. with new Nokia phones with so much storage and have 1ghz. plus so many prefer an iPhone look ace.

I already told myself, that I won't buy another HTC phone... that was like 3 phones ago.

If you want to do it do it right.
Who wants just an unlocked bootloader anyways?
S-OFF/Super CID/Unlocked SIM. XTC clip delivers and the price has dropped considerably. I got mine for $55.00 US and did 3 phones so far with it.
One thing I've learned from this forum and from years of working with computers and electronics is most of the time the stock solution...sucks.
CM7.2, custom parititions, link2sd. All have made this a great little phone. All because of clipping it.

Got a Galaxy s II now but can't use it till its my birthday which is just over a week away :'(

I ditched this sack of crap phone and got another HD2 and flashed NAND Android.
The HD2's ported android roms have far more functionality than the WFS (a dedicated Android device) thanks to years of effort from XDA devs also none of that S-on & off crap.

I'm in a quandary and I wanted to find out where people are going after the Desire. For me it is pretty much the perfect phone, this is down to build quality and developer support.
I don't know if i can move to a phone that doesn't have as much support, what will i do without all my flashing?!
Anyway, the SGSII is plastic and the Sensation isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination (it isn't the 'new Desire' in terms of changing the game).
What are others upgrading to? I've got 6 months on my contract, do i buy myself out and upgrade or wait it out?
All thoughts very welcome!
Now that the bootloader is unlocked im going with the sensation but a lot of people seem to be going with the galaxy s II
i would wait to see what the nexus 3 will be like, it is coming out with ice cream sandwhich and is proberly going to have a tegra 3 processor and google phones always have loads of development.

What's the lead time on that? Are we expecting it this year? That will also depend on manufacturer for me too... can't deal with plastic phones!
This might be some sort of sacrilege but I would to see an Android device with the same design ethos as the iPhone 4.
HTC Sensation looks closest but I'm done with Sense.
Galaxy S2 would edge it for me at the moment though.

Although you do not want it, a very good review of sgsII:

The lg optimus speed p990 seems to be good, too.
If i were you, i would buy the sgsII or wait until the next htc-phone with as of now again unlocked bootloader releases and buy this one.

[Q] Rooting/Overclocking the Wildfire S

Hi there guys.
I was wondering if anyone had any guides for rooting and overclocking the Wildfire S (Running 2.3 (Gingerbread)), and also if anyone knew any clock speeds that should get me a nifty enough speed boost while keeping battery life relatively decent.
Thanks in advance.
The Wildfire S can be rooted with the use of GingerBreak. However before you can use that tool, you have to unlock the bootloader with an XTC Clip.
The default clockspeed of the phone is fast enough :-S
Ah. That could be a problem... I don't have the money for an XTC Clip.
The XTC PayG clips are reasonably priced.
Still don't have the money. I'm using it up on the phone...
EDIT: Modestly priced my ass! That's around £50 less than the damn phone itself!
AlpharevX team are testing a new version which works for the Wildfire S. Some hopefully some time soon you will be able to unlock it
maybe no one is working on wildfire S make some mods and root, same in symbian modding it's stagnant where did the modders go. I'm new to android forums nothing
I can see here to play with my phone, it's just on the table all the time unlike when I have the X6 keeps me busy flashing hundred times and cooking every night just need JAF and some tools to cook a CFW. no hardware needed.
There is work going on. It's just difficult because of the bootloader encryption but the Alpharev team have sorted that. I expect a few weeks before the unlock for the Wildfire S is public then there will be a lot more modding and ROM cooking happening.

Technically, yes. If you have an XTC clip or a Froyo phone (which are harder to get as every day goes by). So, in response to your statement I'd have to say yes, but not really.
From the way they've been explaining things it's going to be device specific, and our device hasn't been mentioned. It would be nice if all HTC devices were able to just be unlocked.

Something worth worrying about regarding the One X

Edit: its been reported that at&t is indeed blocking the unlock for their version of this device.
The release of the One X has us all very excited, and there is much reason to be excited. Yet, I feel like many people don't really understand some of the issues we may be up against. Let's take into account some recent HTC phones that came out. Let's look at the Vivid and Rezound. Both of these devices did not have the option to unlock the bootloader until months after. In fact, HTC was not even planning on talking about releasing the unlock until 6 months or later after initial release of the device. We started petitions, spammed the twitters and facebooks of AT&T/Verizon and HTC. It was amazing how each just blamed eachother for the locked bootloaders. Keep in mind this was AFTER the CEO of HTC promised no more locked bootloaders. Samsung does not ship locked bootloaders either. After a few months of begging and pleading, we eventually got official HTC dev unlock. But by that time, most the devs and community were gone.
We had a few teams working very hard on cracking the Vivid/Rezound but to no avail. Apparently HTC upped their game compared to past devices, and to this day we still don't even have unofficial bootloader unlock, s off, sim unlock, etc. On AT&T, the Vivid was one of the best spec'd devices, if not the best, out at the time. Yet, due to the actions of HTC/AT&T, the development was absolutely screwed. At this point in time we have only three or four devs with ROMs, no doubt we would have had tons more if not for the locked bootloader issues.
We need to talk with HTC before the release of this device to make sure the One X doesn't get screwed as bad as the Vivid did. You guys don't know how much it sucks to wait months and months to even put a custom ROM on your phone. We need to hold HTC to their promise. Sure, we can rely on unofficial methods, but then there's always that "what if" factor if nothing happens there.
EDIT: Willyami found this, I'm happy to hear temp-root is already achieved. Yet the article still states we need bootloader unlock or S OFF for perm root...

i think people need to enjoy the phone a bit more, than thinking about custom roms and such. That's certainly not why im buying the phone, nor is it in the discussion. Maybe months or a year i would be open to it, but right now i can see myself enjoying it stock. Especially with ICS on board.

A HUGE factor that goes into what phone I buy is how big the potential is for development. I think that's a pretty common thing to look for for most XDA'ers.

HTC have already released the source code to the Sensation ICS kernel, and it's not even properly rolled out yet. Doesn't seem laggy to me
Calm down dude!
HTC learned the hard lesson of Sensation/sgs2.
They losed 3 months of potential buyers (and that made the whole difference in sales volume) because they locked the bootloader.
sgs2 won because it was unlocked and rooted easily.
The HTC One X is already rooted thanks to Modaco, so no need to worry at all, also Mike did a custom rom already, there are many Sensation devs switching to One X...
Another pro argument might be that this will be a real flagship device. As we all know, htc released much too many phones in 2011 (close to 50 I heard in an xda-tv episode ) and they realized the problems that come with such an approach.
The vivid or the rezound might just have been skipped by most devs, some of the better are even still on the 2 year old HD2.
I really hope that this will be the next HD2, it's got all the potential to be the next best phone ever.
I believe that HTC are changing and learning. If you see the communications between them and XDA over the last year, if you see the HTCDev site, if you see the list of ICS updates, if you see the API's they are releasing, etc.
If you look at this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCXgL7MDsIc Jeff clearly says it will be unlocked.
Also I agree with their reasoning for locking the boot loader, and as long as they release the unlock tool I think its a good process to ensure only those who know and accept the consequences will use it.
PS. Also the HTC One X is not tied to a partner so it should give HTC full control of what they do with it. Were as the HTC One XL is tied to AT&T so it may mean for that device its more complicated a process to get AT&T to agree to unlock the boot loader.
The "One" series must have been made for something, didn't they say they are trying to make their phones more recognisable too? In that case, it makes perfect sense to not release 50 phones a year (or one every week), as that really tarnishes the brand
i've never unlocked a phone on htcdev, but it has a generic unlock option.
you have to submit an identifier token you can query with fastboot, and you are getting a unlock binary sent by email which you can flash with fastboot to unlock the phone. if the hboot of the phone supports this.
seems very generic to me, and i guess you can already unlock a htc-one device using this method
Edit: Ops! I am wrong... please see later posts! Sorry blubbers!

[Q] Is any1 working to get S-OFF on HOX

Hi every1 , is anyone working to get S-OFF on Hox ,if so what's the progress because i can't find any info about it.
I've heard that some people are working "behind the scene" and they doing well but unfortunately they don't want to share anything with us .
Also i've heard that some of the best developers just give up with that issue ,one of them said that it's impossible to get S-OFF on HOX and that makes me said because i've had a choice between HOX and SGS 3 and i choose HOX and i love that phone .I just get mad when i'm thinking of S-oFF crap.I would love to have my phone OPEN 100% and do with it whatever i want.

Lol..no need to bash HTC mate..I also disappointed about S-OFF but because we have bought the product, we have to go on with it..
Now we have to rely on those active devs and members out there that actively developing ways to achieve S-OFF..
Well.
It is possible to s-off hox. Behind the scene mine hox has been made s-off.
They are looking for a solution to S-OFF the HOX without any use of a xtc-clip, OTG-cable with a specific java/gold-card. But just unlocking like revoked on HTC Desire. (Also first goldcard, after a while you could s-off through a software).
Try to get your hands on one of those cards... Like mission impossible...Or you have to pay the jackpot to someone who has it...
YES it is possible.. But be patient.
Finally You gave me some hope because i was thinking about selling my HOX but i really prefer to own a HOX than SGS 3 ,about others phones i don't give a sh..
Where i can find an instruction how to S-OFF using xtc-clip, OTG-cable with a specific java/gold-card ?
Or where i could find somebody who will do this for me and my hox??

To make things clear now. There isn't any guides how to achieve now to S-OFF your hox. Like I said, you have to pay the "jackpot" price to get a XTC-clip. I don't even know if this fully works. Also the same as java/gold-card. First try to buy an java/gold card that is decrypted as hell and designed to do real HTC Engineering stuff with your HOX. Every gold/java-card is different. If this was so easy, wouldn't there be a long time ago hundredthousands of copies of those contens on the "world wide web".
Think about it. If everything was so easy, than anybody could S-OFF every HOX right now
