Titanium Backup Apps to Freeze - LG Nitro HD

Using Titanium Backup I have frozen the following apps and remained stable:
Amazon Kindle 0.9.6
AT&T Code Scanner 1.0
AT&T FamilyMap 2.0
AT&T Hot Spots 0.955
AT&T Navigator 1.0
Books 1.5.2
Get HD Games 1.0.0
Live TV 1.0
MOG Music 1.0.2
myAT&T 1.0
Polaris Office 3.0.3132.0 (I have QuickOffice purchased anyway)
Qik Lite 0.1.18
SmartShare 2.0
Social+ 3.0.200
Yellow Pages 2.3.5
YP 1.0
I'm using ADW Launcher EX instead of the regular launcher, and post-reboot Auto Killer Memory Optimizer shows me at about just over 500MB free RAM. Plus the app drawer is cleaner and the phone feels a little snappier
(No, I'm not using this app to kill apps, just to get a report on Services/Processes/RAM.)
(Yes, I realize that number will go down as things get cached, etc. - but I needed something regular to measure against)

I also freezed:
AT&T Address Book
City ID
Dracula
Featured Apps
Home screen tips
LG keyboard
Market Feedback Agent
Zynga Poker HD
Wi-Fi Share (couldn't figure out how to use it)
P.S.
The AT&T Hot Spots are useful if you have hotspots around (airports, starbucks, mcdonalds, etc), plus connecting to WiFi saves battery ALOT.

don't forget ya got smartshare on yer phone after ya freeze it, app is pretty sweet. i use myatt too.
i haven't figured out what cityid is, what is that?
i froze

i uninstalled everything i could/wanted (family finder, etc) via the apps manager.
also, anyone freeze any of the com.android/lg stuff?

I didn't replace it with anything. Att Address book simply adds list of ATT phone numbers to your address book

the only issue with this setup is that you are not in control how often google checks your 6 other accounts, it could be 5 minutes, could be 50.
I prefer push mail, which Nitro lacks of by default unless it's exchange mail.

It's probably the stock Launcher. Which means it is ONLY safe to freeze IF you have another launcher installed that is stable. Otherwise on boot you're going to be in a lot of trouble.

thank you!

A word of warning about freezing att address book. If you freeze it, you may not be able to add contacts from the phone (i am speaking from my personal experience, if someone could confirm that would be great), even if you do even have any contacts with att address book. I think it is integrated in and breaks something in the stock contacts app that freezes the whole process because when I try to add contacts it freezes on a gray screen. When I unfreeze the app, adding contacts works again.

figured i'd bump this with an update.
IMO, freezing all this shiz has done more for perf and batt life than Juice Defender or Ram manager.

That's in addition to deleting all the available apps ATT lets us delete. family finder, etc.

Sorry guys, noob here, but I thought I should add my feedback to this list - I froze nearly every app listed here, (except for a few that I use, like calculator) had setCPU installed, and my phone is now acting really laggy. I'm not really sure what to attribute this to. The root? Frozen apps? I uninstalled SetCPU and tried to defrost the apps I had frozen (both with a batch and individually), but it won't let me. I tried making a copy of the frozen app, then deleting, then re-installing the copied version (suggested on another XDA thread), but that does not work. It just hangs when deleting as well. Can someone else verify that Titanium Backup is defrosting / deleting / restoring as expected on the Nitro?
Another weird side effect is that my internal storage says its almost full, which is crazy considering I never installed a new app after freezing those apps, and last time I checked I had plenty of space. Is it possible for Titanium Backup to be caching somewhere other than the SD? It's pretty weird. I really don't have many apps installed. Also (and perhaps this is due to the low system space, or specifically attributed to a frozen app) But my video playback is crazy laggy now.
Just thought I would post this to see if anyone else is getting weirdness after freezing apps.

setcpu caused similar issues on my phone. i uninstalled it and no more problems

I just factory reset (which I never did after root) and reinstalled setCPU and its working great. I even tested the HD videos again and they are now running smooth. Still a bit scared to start freezing apps again. For now I've just hidden them in launcher pro. Out of sight, out of mind I guess.

I had issues unfreezing Address Book which I did initially without thinking. After I froze it and realized you couldn't add contacts I tried unfreezing it. However, it wasn't on my list of frozen apps or backed up apps. I had to to a factory reset to bring it all back.

So far I haven't had any problems freezing/unfreezing, yet I did not play with many unfreezing apps. However I did notice on some backups (especially if they came from different phone), TB would freeze during restore, but in most cases it turned out to be due to dev mode disabled in the settings (thanks LG for disabling it for us each time we use any options other then "PC connect" when phone connected to PC). So as long as I have dev mode enabled, I don't recall having any problems with TB.
Speaking of SetCPU, I also noticed lagginess with default settings, but it mostly only visible right after reboot. After phone been used for a while it's smooth as iPhone (ok, almost...ok, not really, but close).
This also make me think, that Nitro by default keeps CPU at 1.5ghz at all times, it would explain lagginess if it has to jump from 192mhz to 1.5ghz as per SetCPU default. Maybe if you set min and max to 1.5ghz will it still be more laggy then with no SetCPU?

Battery life question

Yes, I use my device a lot. That said, I wanted to post my running services to see how I can reduce the load. I am running Baked Snack 1.8 and am rooted with unrevoked. I use Touchdown for email/calendaring/contacts. I recently started using Juice Defender Beta and SetCPU (only screen off profile). I can literally watch my battery percentage drop. I have done the following:
unchecked always on data
unchecked google talk
sprint only for network
I noticed that there is a "running" tab under manage applications. Here is my list of running apps (and I even try to keep it trimmed down):
android system

Holy S#!! this seems like alot of things running at once, no?
I am guessing its your touchdown, fantasy football, or lockbot causing the problems.
The following are required by the system.
Calander storage
messages (chomp requires this)
Facebook for HTC synchs your contact photos.
I would ditch the 3 apps at the top and see how it goes.
I can't comment on the rom, I run fresh 3.3.0.1
Lockbot is brand new and I have had the same issues since I installed that yesterday. I Touchdown is my email client and I cant use stock HTC app since exchange version is little older than needed. Thanks.
CM6 with Snap 7.6 problem solved..I cant tell you how much better my Battery life is since this combo.. I tryed everything else out there second best combo was the latest Fresh rom off the newest OTA update, CM6/Snap7.6 bests Fresh by alot from what I have seen. Since I changed I get home after a full day with 20-30% battery I used to NEED a bump (the phone not me) around late afternoon before no matter what.
link please?
Try turning off your Mobile Network when you don't need it - this will save a lot of juice.

Facebook 1.9 update

update FACEBOOK 1.9.. sooooo damn smooth!! update people
I got fed up waiting on the Facebook app to be good and finally bought friendcaster pro. The interface, speed, and options are leaps and bounds better. And push notifications with pop ups that actually work better than the official app IMHO. Another one to keep an eye on is fast Facebook which is still in beta but very promising.

App got quite the overhaul it seems, despite the sparse changelog.
First thing I tried though was contact sync and it still tried to sync all my contacts instead of existing ones, so I guess that's still broken.

It's bad enough that I have two camera apps (Fx Camera and Instagram) now you give me another one? Stop with these redundancies and make your app more cohesive and streamlined FB.

They can't be disabled either. Unreal.
The most confusing thing has to be the messenger. Do they want us to use the dedicated messenger app or the one in the FB app because now there is a shortcut for both in the app drawer

Yeah they want you to use the new one I'm assuming. Although it just opens the FB app and moves to that tab. If you close it then open the FB app from its main icon, you just get taken to the messenger tab. Might as well just use the app only and hit the tab manually. At least its not super slow anymore so it'll be easy.
Honestly they can instantly remedy this by giving us settings options to show/hide the Camera and Messenger app shortcuts.
Can anyone explain how I can just install a facebook apk that doesn't include the shortcut icons?
If not, im removing facebook from the phone and using the web version instead.
far out I wish facebook wasn't used by so many people because I hate it.

I deleted mine and couldn't be happier, I'm a decently social person, but I just find it a waste of time, but that is just me.
As for the a unified app, that doesn't have those shortcuts, I think I might be able to edit the apk, I'll give it a try.
Its so stupid to have two messenger icons... plus a extra camera button... is this why FB bought instagram? Just to have their own camera shortcut?

So Facebook loads up quicker now? I've noticed after using facebook for couple of days, it'll load slower. Tried it on two gnex, same result.

I just uninstalled the app, and will use the mobile site from now on.
Is facebook also having the age-old wake-lock issue? Back when I installed it (Literally 2 months ago) I always had wake-lock issues under BetterBatteryStates called something "katana" even with manual syncing. Probably the reason why I hate the app so much.
Still doesn't load my news feed. Stupid app. Back to friendcaster!

Getting Rid Of Google Completely

Possible to free a ROM of everything Google? I have read a few articles but nothing really specific. I see Google as intrusive personally.
Edit: To clarify what I mean. Stop all the data mining, tracking, etc. That's pretty much it. I know its a Google is,and as such only so much could be removed but at least it would limit the intrusiveness. Not looking to go stealth, anonymous or some paranoid tin hat sh*t lol. Maybe a safe indy app store or even just side load, no syncing to any of googles crap whatsoever, no anything that allows Google to get my info. I figure my carrier is good enough in that area as far as tracking important data such as location for 911,etc.
If you delete your Google account from your phone, most apps will most likely act up, but that is one way to do it. I haven't tested, but since you brought it up i think I'm gonna give it a go right now
Lol moist..Sounds like a winner to me.
Was thinking of going all apkmania.com lol joke people...maybe juice it up with some yahoo love lol. Never mind..I guess Google just owns me at this point.
Seems like my android phone loves Google
Lol
Apps downloaded from the Google market just don't have good behavior with out being able to synch. I.e. xda premium that i use for staying up to date. Doesn't.
actually i took your advice and deleted my google account, play store, google services framework, google one time userinit,..EVERYTHING. rom still running great. im using yahoo mail with no geolocation services and using custom weather location in rom with all location except what you got to have on turned off and i actually have 162 mb free ram versus 129 before and can see a difference in battery life and speed of rom. all the bookmark sync, contacts sync..all of that garbage deleted from rom. i did it because in my own personal opinion its none of googles business who my contacts are, what my calendar appointments are, what websites i like to go to or anything else for that matter...sell me the damn phone..stay out of my life...thats the deal lol
I'm gonna do a fresh flash with slim ROM and test

this one has been an issue for me as well. i keep tons of appointments and none of the crap ive found really provide the two things i need in a good calendar. 1. a customizable full month widget 2. full featured agenda
google calendar is crap and doesnt even have a month widget, android pro widgets has a great month widget but its all heavily dependent on google calendar to work at all unless you are just using a month widget without any other use in it. and its bloated with crap widgets like facebook,etc..and i cant find a decent replacement any where on play store. think i will try f-droid.

You may want to get betterbatterystats to see what services are keeping the tab running. Also, use Greenify to control the apps you don't want to autostart or keep running after you have gone back to homescreen. I haven't rooted mine yet, but thats what I use on my other tablets and phones. You could also try clearing cache and dalvik cache, and maybe doing fix permissions. But I again not sure if it will work out.
I get no lag whatsoever and im not rooted as I don't Like what Samsung has done with the knox security, the thing that has made the biggest difference for me is replacing the TW launcher with Nova Prime, I don't think the bloat ware makes such a big difference to this as it has such a large amount of ram, it's pretty hard to slow it down now
If I could now sort out the massive battery drain I'd be extremely happy with my purchase

Every time I have a lag, it's either bad file or bad app. I use System Panel in these cases to identify the problem. Last week my tablet was slow and hot all the time. For some reason Beautiful Widgets was using 100% of CPU for hours. Another example is a bad file (pdf or epub), search index was running non - stop until I found the problem.

OK cool I will check out System Panel. I did notice that I think GMD Gestures was causing some slowness. As much as I liked the program I uninstalled it. There was some weird bugs with it and a lot of times it would interfere with other things with the note, like disabling the palm rejection for writing and stuff.
If you are rooted, is there a good way to disable the indexing services?
I'm not sure, but i see smooth after root and remove bloat app. Did you set live wallpaper? Some live wall not optimizer make lag when use.
I had beautiful widgets pro installed while rooted and the device headed up like crazy and lagged. Could be app related

No live wallpaper, I hate them, resource HOG.
Maybe I am just being overly picky with how I think the tablet should run. I just think that at this point in the game of Android development and the crazy hardware specs that are being crammed into these devices now, that everything should run super smooth with no stutters or hitches. It's just disappointing to me that I have to hack and mod my device this much just to make it even just marginally better... Why can't this stuff be better optimized??!!!!

You can disable it by going to /system/app, and renaming, or deleting "ContentSearch.apk". But, if you do, your tablet will no longer index files that you add or change. For example, if you add a video, movie, or music, to the internal or external storage, the tablet won't know anything has changed, and won't be able to find the added file.
I would advise against disabling the index service. A better option would be to find the file that's causing your issue. This may help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2483944

Phone locking up

It's been a little while since I've been on the forum, so I apologize in advance if I say anything wrong or miss anything here.
I haven't needed to root in about a year, since getting my note 4,but all of a sudden, about 2 weeks ago, the phone starts freezing up seemingly randomly. Sometimes it will reboot randomly as well. Figured that it needed a wipe, so I rooted but kept stock rom and went with it. I rooted with the method here for the latest sprint update, and for a day everything was fine. So, I decided to swap Rom for the Sprint Hybrid 3.0 rom, and for a few days, again, everything was fine. Now, it's doing it again. This makes me wonder if it's an app issue. I installed alogcat and am waiting on it to happen again. Last time it happened, lots of "D/ViewRootImpl( 6623): ViewPostImeInputStage ACTION_DOWN" shows up.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you all in advance.
Attached is the logcat

The same thing is happening to my note 4. It just started just last Wednesday though. I did the same thing you did, rooted and flashed hybrid. I get the same symptoms as you. Man i hope someone can figure this out.

ViewPostImeInputStage ACTION_DOWN is usually an app problem. It occurs (intermittently and unpredictably) when an app's view layout doesn't work and starts rejecting touch input events.
So it's possible some app is failing. You might want to disable apps that start up automatically and see if you can pin down a misbehaving app. Of course, if it's not a misbehaving app, that won't do you any good. But that's all I can think of.
I can't tell from your log which app might be triggering the problem.
Same exact issue here. It just popped up middle of last week. I was running Alliance v4 with bob7 baseband. I wiped and went to 5.1.1 with the new OG5 baseband using the tx_dbs_tx method. I have clean flashed 5 different times since. The trouble persisted. Phone will react slow, crash to the desktop (nova launcher) or just reboot. Sometimes it won't even reboot, it gets stuck and I have to pull the battery. Very annoying. Maybe we should compare installed apps?
Well, is there a way to quickly generate a list of apps, and which ones start up at boot?

Does your phone reboot normally when you do a reboot? Half the time mine won't and I have to pull the battery. I got tired of dealing with it and I think it's hardware so I spent my 2 hours at the sprint store while the tech blew canned air in my phone and said it was fine. Then I tried to reboot it right in front of him and it hung until I pulled the battery. Replacement phone is now ordered.

Normally, it does reboot fine. Sometimes it doesn't, like the 14 in a row mine did, but since I stopping the apps, I haven't had an issue

I odined mine to bare bones stock 5.1.1 og5 official. Installed no apps. Random reboot happened in no time flat. Phone still wouldn't reboot half the time, or it would go to a random error screen in download mode for no reason. I think my hardware is junk, bad flash memory.

Ouch. Yeah, might be the same issue, just worse. It might not be an app, jut a full memory issue. And if yours just happens to me worse, then Nothing we do will have much affect. I hope more people start experiencing this.

Looks like this was a bandaid. It still locks up, but it happens less frequently, especially if I reboot a few times.
So, it's not an app. I almost want to buy an app to make my SD card ram...

If you have the esrp sprint insurance just take it to the sprint store and make them replace it. Sounds like the same junk hardware issue I have. I'm still waiting on the replacement.
I don't. But I did add the upgrade early option. Maybe I'll just swap into another 4. I'll have to ask though. No contracts mean I'm having to finance this junk.

Was having the same issue, I factory reset my phone, then the next day the same thing started happening. I barely had any extra apps. Sometimes after restarting, my phone would go into downloading mode, at one point it rebooted into a screen that said kernel panic mode. Took it to the Sprint store, it froze up as the tech was using it thankfully, so he ordered me a replacement through my TEP coverage. The entire time I did not have an SD card inserted either.
