[Q] Kindle Fire notification volume = 0 - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After rooting my v.6.1 KF, manually updating to 6.2, and getting Gapps, Market, Go Launcher, WidgetLocker, etc., working my notification volume now goes to zero after setting it to > zero. Also, when choosing a notification sound, even with volume turned up, you get no notification sound. Other sound is fine (Pandora, for example).
Any thoughts? I have a 'mute' icon for volume in the upper right notification area (where WiFi is). Seems like this was not an issue last night and might have been mucked up by WidgetLocker. I'll be trying a workaround based on that theory later today but for now work calls :\
EDIT: Solved! See below.

There is an app called "Volume Control" that will let you set the various types of notifications individually. e.g. it separates notification from media from system. Very helpful.

Just had to deal with a similar problem.
As somebody else on this forum stated, the probable culprit is Widgetlocker.
I had it installed for a while, played with the settings and unintentionally changed the ringtone to mute (the right slider on the lockscreen). Had to re-install the app (had it uninstalled), changed the ringtone back to normal and voila - notification sounds are back.

Oh my God I can't believe that after all the relatively complex things I've done over the past two days that my answer to the one problem which kicked my butt hard enough to post about it was "you broke it yourself" lolol. The WidgetLocker volume slider was the problem. I had slid it to mute and never thought about it again. Everything's back to normal. Can't wait to get TWRP and CM7 running over the holidays!

Thanks for this! It made me look at the icon I thought meant "Mute" and really meant "Do Not Disturb". Turning that off brought the sound back. Thank God. Lol. I was also looking for complicated issues and blamed Amazon. Sorry!

Basic Android Notification question

I'm new to Android, coming from WM6.1. I am unable to find info on something I suspect is basic: is there a way to turn off audible notifications, and can I put a shortcut to the setting on a homescreen?
My EVO kept going off last night, seemed like every hour or so, to remind me of someone's birthday. I was too tired to get up and turn if off.
Can I turn those kind of notifications off temp without turning off the ringer?
Maybe someone could point me where to find this info? did a search b4 work but found nothing.
Don't have the Evo in front of me, but I believe if you go to your calendar, click on an event. Go to menu, more, then settings. From there you will have the option about alerts and what not.
Well, yes, thats true. However, that supposes you REMEMBER there is an event coming, which kind of negates the need to put it in your calender in the first place.
With my WinMo 6.1 Fuze I was able to set both the ringer volume and the notification volume separately, simply using the volume rocker on the side of the phone. so every night I would turn the notification volume down and leave the ringer volume alone.
I use quick settings as my default settings from the market for things such as volume and brightness because it allows you to keep it in your notification shade.
if you had that installed you would do as follows >volume control>and then slide the volumes down individually for alerts, ringer, notifications, etc. I think that is what you are trying to do. then you could set it back.

Audible touch tones ...

Audible touch tones just stopped working.
This morning when i used dial pad i've noticed that there is only vibrating without any sound...
I checked in sound settings and there is everything as it should be.
Is there any known solution for this, except master reset...
Thanks...
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Ok, so i've managed to solve this...
this has happened when i pulled out my battery without turning off the phone 1st.
So i tried everything what came to my mind, like changing sound levels etc. manually.
Then another thing came across my mind..
pressed and hold power button, turned the phone to silent, then did this same and turned the silent mode off, and it worked...
Just to mention I've never before put phone to silent, and while audible touch tones weren't working, when i press some number in my dial pad, i could hear "something" on speakerphone, something like that action was made but melody was missing.
I was trying to find solution at google but without success, but i saw that there is a lot of people having the same issue, so i recommend to try this, what i've did...
cheers...
it not working for me, but i found solution,
download "audio manager" from market, you can see that, system volume is set to min/off
i set system volume to max and uninstall app, after phone restart tones still all right!

Got a few issues / bugs...

Loving the phone...can't wait for JB....
Right now, running stock AT&T ROM...I'm got a few issues / bugs to report...wondered if anyone else sees these or knows a fix:
1. The notification sound for Calendar reminders can't be changed. It lets me pick a new / custom sound but it does not save the setting. Everytime I go back in it is back to the default.
2. Incoming calls - often as soon as I grab the phone (usually from my pocket but sometimes when it was just sitting on a table) the call is rejected as if I bumped something to do this. Only the phone is locked and I did not hit any buttons. I really doubt I keep hitting the red reject slider and sliding it across the phone accidently....not sure what is going on.
3. Texts - they seem to not come thru sometimes and I also rarely hear the notification or feel the vibration.
Anyone else having these issues?
Bump

1. Are you pressing the "OK" button (next to the "cancel" button) on the calendar ring tone selection screen? I've confused myself and pressed the "back" softkey, which wasn't lit up, since it was below the "OK" button thinking i was pressing ok (or because I often unthinkingly default to pressing back to exit a screen). Otherwise this should be working, if it really isn't saving you have a buggy device...
2. I've only had the phone a few days and picking up calls has been no problem (stock rom, not rooted yet).
3. I feel you on the text alerts, but i get them on time and get a vibration just not the default vibration "tone" i selected. Generally late text messages aren't an issue with the phone more likely the provider, but your two issues above may indicate the device is at fault.
I can't change my notification sound on calendar either. I called Samsung and they said to hard reset. I guess their tech support is just as useless as Motorola's. I wish I could be that lazy at my job; "well customer I see you have a problem, have you tried putting it back in the box and pulling i back out? That's all I can recommend."
Thanks...

Definitely hitting okay....it shows the correct ring tone....but when I go back into settings it is gone.
Answering calls is getting better....disabled the motion controls and some other things to make it hard to accidently reject the call.
We'll See...

Hoping Samsung's Jelly Bean release fixes these issues....or maybe a patch release or two after JB. If not, I will try CM10 or a JB-based AOKP build when they get a little more polished.
This issue is fixed in the latest ATT OTA update http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31801294#post31801294
Thanks!

Thanks for point this out! I had forgotten about it! The fix seems to have worked for me. Would be nice if all undocumented fixes like this were in one neat bullet-ed list for us to review....
Nah, then Samsung would have to acknowledge that they told a bunch of gullable people to factory reset for nothing

Notifications Stuck on Silent

I have an incredibly annoying problem I can't resolve. I'm running Launcherpro and I also use Gosms, stock otherwise but obviously rooted. So anyway, my notification ringer keeps going silent with sound on, but worse is it gets stuck and I can't increase it no matter how I try without resetting. I literally can't do anything to it, the volume slider grays out. I've tried going through settings, using audio manager, and all have the ability to change the notification volume disabled. . Once I reset it it goes back to normal, but eventually and randomly goes back to silent and gets stuck. I have no clue what to do but it's obviously infuriating. I'd appreciate any help and I'm sorry my initial thread was in the wrong place. If any other info is needed please let me know. This is just an awful problem, really frustrating.
Is your notification volume linked to one of the others? Grab audio manager or similar from the play store. .. It shows linked volume controls and gives the option to un link

Figured it out... I had a Profile called "Night" selected under Profiles in the system settings. I toggled profiles off, and voila, I've got sounds again! Hope this helps!

Notifications get stuck on silent

I put my Note 10+ on silent at night and it's on vibrate when I'm at work.
When I put it back on sound via the pull down panel, often the notifications do not go back to full sound which is rather annoying.
Is this a known issue?
Personally, I use "Bixby Routines" to set the locations where phone is on silent/vibration and on sound.
The volumes stay as they were when it changes and it works seamlessly.
Like you said, at workwhere I need it silent, it uses GPS to determine where I am and changes to vibrate , when I walk through the door at home it turns all sound back on.
Neat little feature that is hidden on the phone like soooo many awesome things...

Thanks for the tip. I will definitely explore this. I have a lot to learn after 3 years with Huawei.

LOL, it's a new feature exclusive to Note 10/10+...
Tried to install Bixby Routines onto the Note 9 but it fails...
To find little nuggets of information and awesome features, youtube is your friend... 90% you may already know but there are always little surprises there too, like how to send an sms at a certain time even if you don't have your phone with you. Good for espionage... Also you can set a reminder from a received sms to sound at a certain time and the message will show up on the screen again.
Always learning....
I have this same problem. It's rather annoying
I have a similar issue, but, in my case ALL notifications sound, except gmail, I've been trying anything that I could think of to no avail, I finally gave up and made a macro to sound when a gmail arrives, it's just a work around, but works
Same issue when using Volume buttons and Bixby Routine
Please let me know when someone figures this out. It is rather frustrating! So when I use Bixby Routine it knows the location of my workplace and automatically changes my phone to vibrate mode and when I leave work it changes the sound to turn back on. The only issue is that everything goes back to normal (ringtone, media, system, Bixby voice) except for notifications!
Even if I adjust my phone using just the volume buttons instead of the Bixby routine it would change everything to vibrate but when I change it back the notification sound is the only thing that stays silent while everything else goes back to the setting I originally had it at.
Ugh... I already cleared my cache with the physical button I thought it worked but it went back to doing the same thing...
