Rattling Sound - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I haven't seen a post about this yet, but just something I happened up.
I was sitting on the couch, flipping my phone from hand to hand while watching my 11 month old son crawl around the living room, and just happened to hear some weird rattling going on, coming from the phone. I'm not sure what it is, but I have a feeling it's the lens for the camera.
Now, note, this only happened when it came to a very quick/forceful stop (as in it landed on the ground). Obviously this sounds alot worse than it was, but I'm just curious if anyone else noticed this. If I shake it, I don't get any rattle at all. Just curious if anyone else noticed this.

It's the camera, and is normal.

Yeah I didn't notice it until today after two weeks with the phone.
Thankfully my experience with other androids let me know it was normal for the camera

It might be the volume rocker. My camera does not rattle but my volume rocker does.

Definitely the camera. Hold the volume rocker and do it, you'll see it still happens. Ah well, just making sure.

Was playing with my camera this morning taking pictures of my son, and noticed this....are others having the same picture quality issues like this with light? I didn't seem to remember having these when I first got the phone. Perhaps I'm wrong.....Specifically notice how the light in the doorway is banding up and down like that? I tried it also looking at a window and TV and the same thing happened. Not sure exactly why it does that, but I know that my Motorola Droid X didn't have that issue.

Yeah, wiped it a few times with a LCD screen wipe.
It just actually gets stranger. I was planning on taking it back, and put the original (1850 mAH) battery back in, and checked and it looked fine. I thought, what the hell, so I went back to my extended battery, and it looked fine again now too. I'm not sure whats going on, but for some reason it was making those 'light streaks' and I got no clue why. I'm sorta hesitant to take it back now, since it isn't doing it anymore. No point because they won't exchange it anyway.

I wouldn't of thought the battery would make the camera cause those light streaks, if it was me personally of keep an eye on it. I'd definitely take it back if it happens again !!

I'm not sure how much of a difference the LTE and GSM have, but I know mine is coming from the area of the camera. I can try and make just the bottom rattle and it never happens, but if I do the same to the top, it rattles from somewhere around the camera lens. Either way, the camera seems fine now. Was taking Christmas Pictures all night and no issues!

I guess that I have a tiny camera rattle too but the volume rocker rattles much louder. The camera rattle is not audible over the noise that my volume rocker makes. My Droid Charge had a much louder camera rattle.

Red Screen of death issue

I have had the Sprint Epic 4G Touch since launch day and today everything on my screen turned into a deep shade of red for a couple of minutes and I thought it was a dead screen I would have to return to Sprint and then the normal color returned out of nowhere. Does anyone know if this is something I triggered or was this just a glitch? The home button, screen off/on, changing screens did not fix this problem. All functions were working from what I could tell and I could make everything out on the screen and it was bright but everything was a shade of red.
My phone is stock and I have Go Launcher running on it with many Go Widgets. I had about 50% battery from what I remember. I may have had the Words With Friends application running at the time if anything. I have a few emulators and ROMs on my external sdcard that were not running but everything else on my phone is normal.
Thos happened to me also. i am rooted with stock kernal. was weird. i rebooted and hasnt done it since then.

This is extremely close to how it looked on my screen. I tried recreating it but couldn't. I'm glad I'm not the only one. Like I said everything was functional I just thought the screen took a nose dive on me. I'll blast sammy's twitter also.
I've had the same strange red shade. Thought maybe it was a hardware problem; glad to see it wasn't just me.
I've had another weird screen mode issue - "safe mode." No idea what this meant, but didn't notice any limitations. Just had a little shaded rectangle at the bottom left of the screen no matter what I did. Had to restart the phone to make it go away.
I've also had a warning that I was overheating the battery by flying through Manhattan in Google Earth with 3D rendering turned on. Not a bug - just didn't think it would be possible to pull that off when the phone is in an environment of standard room temperature.
See the attached screenshots.

Build quality - Impressions? Issues?

Interested in hearing impressions of the device as a physical object. Any obvious manufacturing issues so far? In particular, is anyone seeing evidence of the screen-related problems that plagued the previous model -- screen lift, spongy screen, creaky screen?
i exchanged my first one today after i noticed specks of particles under the screen that was very visible. 2nd one is fine though
It is really snappy, feels better in the hands than the last gen. Feels a lot more solid and there are no weird creaks or jiggling parts.. The screen is fantastic looking no issues at all there and the processor is more than fast enough for anything I have thrown at it so far, mostly just games so far.. I can answer questions if you have them, actually have two of the 32gbs and 1 16gb in the house now and none of them have any issues.

Picked mine up yesterday. Very smooth and snappy and fits nicely in my hands. Feels much high quality to me than previous version. No issues what so ever and not seeing any dust under screen. 4.3 doesn't seem much different from 4.2.2. Liking it very much!

Issues thus far after first automatic update during initial boot, didnt update yet the second time after initial boot...
GPS was not working at all no searching icon at top left corner of screen. No gps apps would detect gps... had to follow set of instructions on the web for the same problem with galaxy s3 phones after jellybean update. finally after the tablet decided to make the gps work and download agps data and satellite info, it works every time now and finds the sats..
When using rear camera outside in direct sunlight, pictures/video and the screen in the camera app flickers, even during taking a picture or recording video, only happens when facing the direction of the sun and its the brightest it can be outside, seems like a digital aperture issue with the lens (hardware) or software issue with android 4.3(stock camera app) or a problem with F-stop. Also after awhile of this happening the screen turned green in the camera app and pictures did not come out. had to reload camera app and fix that issue.
So far on my Nexus 7 2013 with the first update but not the second I am having these issues. Fixed the GPS(crossing fingers) do not know whats up with the camera and software but will do a system update to the second update and see if I have the same camera issues... Also will try 3rd party camera software! The 5MP shooter on back does record 1080p video!
Occasionally any kind of audio event will fail to play - I've noticed it on most events such as lock screen locking, and touch sounds. It doesn't seem to affect regular audio playback that I've noticed. I can't reproduce it any specific way but it does happen. I don't know if it's an issue with the sound drivers or OS itself or the device. As I had to exchange my original N7 once for a speaker that started popping within the first few months of ownership, I hope it's not hardware again. I think I'll just unlock it for now before I load too much on it and see how it goes with stock.
+1 for the audio issue I think your talking about! Audio has been fine in everything on my nexus 7 2013 except in bike race older version, I was playing and its like the audio samples would play and not repeat instantly so the bike revving for example audio would turn off while the music played, and or vice versa. So far have not noticed that issue in any other games or software or xiia music player!
I'm so damn glad I'm not the only one with crap under the screen. my first had dead pixels.. my second has a piece of something under the screen that makes it look black, so I can't tell if it's dust or dead pixel.

[Q] Screen brightness auto-changes without any auto-adjust on.

I have all possible options that can auto-control the screen brightness unchecked, and the mode set to Dynamic (even if it's on any other one too), and my brightness set at 45 (again this doesn't matter as I changed it to other brightnesses), but I still see the brightness auto-adjust from time to time. It doesn't matter what app I'm in, or just looking at the home screen. Does anyone else have this happen? Is there a way to make it stay where I have it set? It's not really annoying, but I do notice it, and would like it to stay put.
I had this happen on the S4 and note 3. Supposedly it's a Samsung thing. I did see this though

It's happening to me I made a thread on it too, I've called Sammy and done everything I could I think it's a software issue or one of the sensors is jacked up. In any event I gave it a few days and it's not getting any better it's very annoying to me so I'm returning my phone and getting another one just to make sure it's not a hardware issue. It's the only reason I haven't rooted yet

Listen to what i wrote i said im returning it to rule out hardware issues, if the new device does it then its definitely software and illl wait for some kind of an update or wait for a dev to get a handle on it. S4 from doing research had the same issues so yes most likely its software but i have to rule out hardware by returning it and getting a new device. My Note 2 did not do this so im assuming its a TW 4.3 issue
Ok...

Conclusion: It's not a phone defect.
I have done some testing, and concluded (at least for me) it is software/hardware combo as said previously (heating up). Since I have the phone set up exactly how I want it (rooted and all), and I really don't want to return it since the phone itself is perfect (no physical defects with buttons, screen, etc), I kept a really good watch on when it does it, and it only does it after I have the screen on for like an hour or so, and the phone itself gets warm/hot. If the temp stays below 95F the brightness stays constant. Only if it gets up in the 100s I start to see it, so I do believe it's auto-dimming to cool off the phone. I can live with that since it doesn't get that hot all the time. Mostly playing games, or heavy browsing on the web using desktop mode, and when it does do it the change is slight. I only really notice it on white screens. I was worried since I thought it was a defect, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I'm super happy with this beast. Best phone I ever owned.
On a related note I do remember my GSII doing it on TW. After I put CM on it I never saw it.

No lux is not the answer I tried that too. I just got my new phone after returning it and it does the same thing . As BobbyPhoenix stated I think it's software related too and it's when the phone gets warm and I think how much it adjusts is based on how hot it gets. I guess I'll have to live with it because I love this phone the screen when full blast puts all others to shame. Hopefully a dev will have a workaround soon

My wife's S3 does the same on Lux, maybe acts a little different but basically overall it's schizophrenic. It's possible it's goofier with Lux installed. Now there is another layer to manage.

Phone turns off before booting

I was using my phone this morning, then the screen turned off after I left it idle. Tried to turn it back on and got the Sprint logo and then the Samsung logo shortly after, and then it would turn off.
I tried power + home + vol-down, and shortly after that screen comes up it turns off again.
Do I just have a bad battery? I'm using the Gorilla Gadgets extended battery, but I'm at work and don't have access to my original. I also noticed that if I plug in the charger, the charging light doesn't come on.
Anything else I can try?
Oh wow, thanks for the speedy reply and for the heads up. I'll go ahead and give this a shot when I get home tonight

I don't doubt you at all, I just managed to confirm it. After slapping it around for a bit I finally got it to go to my home screen, then shortly after the "power off" menu came up, similar as to if I was holding down the power button and off it went.
I actually saw a video of someone flicking the power switch area with their fingers, I did that and managed to get the phone turned on, and have made sure to not touch the power button since then by installing a "screen off" app and it's been on this whole time. I'm guessing this is just a temporary fix and eventually it'll turn off again w/out me touching the power button?

When you're looking at the button which is obviously in the middle of the switch look at that Brown cardboard looking material... directly behind the button in that cardboard area use a very small flat head after you've used that needle or pin then dig out enough of it, so you can stick your screwdriver behind the button and it'll pop right out.

What you have is I'll guarantee 99.99% is a bad Power Button/Switch on your motherboard.
This was initially referred to as Sudden Death Syndrome... don't waste your money and buy a new battery, I assure you that's not it.
If you have a multi meter take your phone apart, it's very easy, there's a tear down video of how to on YouTube if you need a reference.

If anyone takes this advice PLEASE be sure to test with a multimeter to be sure this is the problem. I don't even know if the multimeter test will tell you anything (I'm no electrician) but this advice will permanently disable your phone. I was recently having a problem with my phone restarting and Jessooca guaranteed me that the problem was the power button.
The problem wasn't the power button. The problem was corrupt data/cache in one of my apps. Clearing the data/cache fixed the problem.
I just don't see how someone can make guarantees and be 99.909% sure of anything. Every problem can be caused multiple ways.
A few months ago I had a problem with my phone failing to startup and in that case it WAS the battery. So that's two different times I have personally experienced boot up/shutdown problems that were not related to the power button. It's just crazy to make guarantees and say you are 99.99% sure about anything without any troubleshooting. Especially for a problem like this that can have multiple causes.
I know I'm late on this thread, but just in case others come here looking for advice on how to fix their power button. I have fixed many of these by soldering on new buttons, and it's a pretty easy fix if you are good at soldering and have a good microscope. What's not an easy fix is trying to replace all those little tiny resistors and capacitors soldered on right next to the power button. They're about the size of a grain of sand, and although I usually can get them replaced and make the phone work, it takes much longer, so be careful if you're going to attempt any kind of diy repair!
I would also say that the only way I've personally gotten these power buttons to work other than replacing them is by cleaning them and lubricating them. A good electronic contact cleaner/lubricant works best, but acetone followed by WD40 works pretty well. Just saturate them with the cleaner and click them a bunch of times to work the cleaner in... then do the same thing with the lubricant. Doesn't always work, but it's unlikely to make the problem worse, and if you it doesn't work you can send it to me to fix!

Vibration sounds "loose"

This just started yesterday, US unlocked model. Never dropped it either. All of a sudden, the vibration when clicking buttons, typing, etc, sounds loose and there is an audible "click" sound (not touch sound click) accompanying it. Anyone else have this happen? Unlocked, S-Off, rooted. I may have to send it in, just wondering if anyone else has it.
Looks like no one else, makes me think it's definitely hardware related, guess it's replacement/repair time.
Got the replacement all set up, this is the first htc phone I've had to send back. I kept looking through the threads about the right process for this - go back to s-on, then relock bootloader, and then run the ruu. I think that is the correct order, correct?

Honestly I have always felt like HTC phones have had somewhat of a loose vibration feeling, compared to say a samsung or iphone, where its basically the opposite.
Yea, it's not very strong, but it is definitely different than it was last week. Something came loose inside.

Ummm my Sprint variant just started to do this. I have the profile widget on the left side of screen and when I toggle vibrate mode it sounds "loose" or rattling. Now it doesn't do this all the time, but its there. I have also noticed it when typing a text. So you took yours back? I'm already on my 2nd 10 as the first one drained 3% battery every couple minutes straight out of the box. I'm way passed the 14 day mark at Sprint and would prob get a refurb anyways.
I bought mine from HTC so I had to send it in and they are sending me a replacement.
Another problem I continued to have is the SD card would continuously unmount. Hopefully the new one is a better quality unit.
Went into Sprint tonight and showed the tech the rattling noise from vibration feedback. He said yea that's not right. They ordered me another and will be here Tuesday. This will be my 3rd!

As it was only 2 weeks old I got a direct replacement next day.
Yea, that's exactly what it sounded like. Got my replacement yesterday, back to rooted and S-Off last night. Hopefully it's not an ongoing issue.
This is ridiculous. Now my camera is borked. Gotta get ANOTHER replacement
Well, htc's customer service really sucks.

What are they gonna do for you?

I have to wait 3-5 days just to talk to the escalation department. They refuse to just replace the phone, even though they sent me a defective one. 3 live chats, 2 phone calls, ridiculous.

This is a normal shot from about 3 feet away. Camera refuses to focus. It sucks.
