I Still want some HoneyComb htc evo - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know every dev will flame me probably but i think it would be cool to have a fully functioning honeycomb port with hwa and camera working on it it would be tottaly awesome to play with for us flashaholics and a journy into a new type of evo for those who dont want to jump into an android tablet just yet!

There is n aplha still in the dev section, but practically nothing works. Just for tablets, so the project died. Everyone is focused on ICS, and since it'll be eventually on tablets, just stick with that.

I think it would be cool to have a port since the source is out but it would be alot of work to get it fully functional an since ics is out most see it useless

ive been toying with the alpha since last feburary XD im not much of a dev just a student useless no but most devs wont look at it for some reason and a build from source has never been attempted i cant compile since i dont want to partition my new cpu with linux or F up my startup with wubi lol but really EVO 4g development has slowed down! and once ICS is out itll be more of the same all these ics roms and clones will be released and nothing new to challenge or play with for us

Thats like asking me to eat the same kinda candy for the rest of my life XD lol to be honest with you ive been using ICS for a while now without the camera and im alrady bored of it!..... bored of the same ol releases coming out there are so many android flavors ! moto blurr droids Samsung Touchwiz overlays im tired of sticking with the same ol same
ANYONE REMEMBER THE OLD M9 port! that got to boot and fixed the .sh files to get data and network working!!! on that one but i cant keep it cuz its laggy it seems that were stuck with the same ol same all the time just copies of stock roms and copies of AOSP roms

Honeycomb less than or equal to Ice Cream Sandwich. The source code is basically the same, that's why it wasn't released until Ice Cream Sandwich was released too. Ice Cream Sandwich is just made to bridge the gap between tablets and phones.

Ice Cream Sandwich update for T-Mobile G2

Does anyone think or know if htc will roll out an update for the G2 to get android 2.4. As we already know it we will be getting android 2.3 gingerbread sooner than we think

Yea maybe it will be for high end 3D devices only to enhance 3D experience, and G2 is not 3D, like evo 3D, G2x, and the 3D devices to come

Ehh, I expect the nexus s will be able to handle it, but it will most likely be geared towards dual core devices. We'll get it, if not htc than from Cyanogen.
But I wouldn't worry about this for a nice long while.

Google announced 2.4 at Google I/O 2011 the other day, but didn't say that 2.4 was Ice Cream. I think 2.4 is just an updated Gingerbread, sort of like 2.0 to 2.1 was still Eclair, and 3.0 to 3.1 is still Honeycomb. I have a feeling Ice Cream will be something more like 3.2 or higher, since it's supposed to be the fusion of Honeycomb and Gingerbread and cover all devices.
That being said, I'm hopeful that Google will cover us with the update, since HTC is one of their 18 partners that promises to give quick OS updates within 18 months of the device releasing, of which the end of this year still would cover us.

Most refs on the 'net state the next version's number to be 3.4. They certainly won't be naming is 2.4 since 2.4<3.0. You simply don't go backwards in versioning.

Yeah, Google will announce the updates. What about the carriers and manufacturers who like to skin their Android builds with buggy-at-best themes like Sense and Blur?

To elaborate a little more on what Gawantu said, at io, Google said they partnered with the manufacturers and carriers, including HTC and Motorola, to bring out updates for up to 18 months after a device is released. But how quickly hasn't been said.
Honestly though, if it took the CM team just 4 months to bring CM7 stable to 20 something devices including a couple tablets, with different hardware, while doing it in their spare time all the while having to reverse engineer and hack their way through it. It shouldn't take any longer for the professional developers at say, HTC, to bring an update to a few that are similarly spec'd and have all the resources to do so even while making a new version of Sense.

As far as i can read they will be releasing ice cream sandwich as android 4.0
Seeing as this version of android is being developed for both smartphones and tablets.

So now that we have that super important technicality out of the way, any speculation as to whether or not we'll see ICS as an OTA update? I'm hesitant to assume that we will. I think CM8 is our best hope. Or CMwhatever.
CM9, lol
but HTC is really debating on relasing or not because of something to do with sense and they want to figure out which direction today... best bet is going to have to wait for CM9 like all of us are doing so impatiently haha
I wrote a letter to HTC months ago asking the future upgrade
they didnt give me clear answer
Seems to me that DZ will not get further upgrade

From my understanding HTC will only be releasing ICS for 1ghz+ and duel core devices. But seeing as our DZ is capable of 2ghz+ someone should be able to get it working

I don't think there are any releases yet. But I hope WFS gets Ice Cream Sandwich update in Q4 of 2011, according to this website : EnGadget - Google Ice Cream Sandwich coming in Q4 2011 to smartphones and tablets alike
it is to be released in Q4 2011.
Lol. Not before 2011. HTC is slow with updates and super slow in my country -__-

I have always found HTC to be better when it comes to support and updates etc as compared to some other companies out there - I've seen rumors on different sites etc where people talk about how the ICS would only be supported by phones with dual core processors or the 1 gig processors etc - but i don't really trust such rumors - I remember when gingerbread was to be released, some thought that it would only be available to phones with 1 gig processors etc but then it came out and a lot of devices with lower hardware specs could upgrade to it without a hitch - Hopefully that happens for when the ICS comes out - but yea it might be some time (depending on the region etc) as to when the WFS might see an update released for it - and hopefully an update for WFS would be released -
I don't think so since ice cream won't need any hardware keys.
And won't support them.
It will be released probably in 2months and Samsungs nexus prime will be the first phone with it (haha will buy it ).

Yea I heard the same about ICE not supporting hardware keys - but that makes me wonder about all these new phones that are out and that have these capacitive buttons like on the WFS - don't think they can be left out of the whole update process - I am not sure but I am guessing some existing phones will see the update regardless of the capacitive buttons -
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S A510e using XDA App
Yes the devs will figure a way out, I am sure the will.
The advantage of no hardware keys is the possibility to build a phone with a bigger screen without having to make it larger. (display gets the space which the hardware keys would have).

This update will remove the fragmentation in android so phones made recently wont be left out. At Google I/O they said older phones will be supported too, so the buttons will still function. There's not a good chance HTC will make ics for older phones using sense. This phone could get sense 3.5, before reaching eol, like the g2.

Officially, no, but trough xda developers, yes
Desire HD is more than capable. the problem is with HTC. Somehow i doubt that we will get the official ICS.
What's good about android is that we get to have independent developers developing roms for us so I'm pretty sure we will get an early port for our device once the sources comes out.
Google should start releasing sources now!!!
I think this update will be the reason i finally root my DHD. ICS looks awsome. I'm currently just using the GO Launcher with a honeycomb theme and that looks and feels a damn site better than Sense
no official news by now.
we should wait for sense roms based on ice cream sandwich. I can not live without official sense on my phone personally .
yes, one of the reasons why i rooted my desire HD last week because i know devs will be porting ICS to our phone. can't wait for that to happen. I'll be glad to donate to anyone that will be bringing an early ICS port to our phone

HTC are reviewing ICS because some of the improvments in ICS was brought by Sense on gingerbread, but there is no timeline for any device to get ICS but Cyanogenmod publicly announced no CM9 roms will be out untill the Source is out. they dont fiddle with SDK's

Sorry Mr. Moderator.

I hope it will come soon officially. I really love HTC and their work but if they keep ignoring previous models to sell the new ones, I will definetely change to samsung or sth else. Making you do things which only they allow is one of the reasons I hate about Apple, which even they are upgrading their previous devices, HTC is acting even worse. I already feel extremely disappointed about Sense 3.0 or 3.5 not coming to DHD officially, that would be too much.
Here is the Nexus Prime dump.
Hope some devs will take it on and port it=)

I'm really glad seeing that developement in Desire HD Section goes that fast forward
But the devs need the source code of ICS , which will be released if the Galaxy Nexus gets released... doesn't they?

maybe we just waiting the dev to port it to our DHD....

honeycomb to Dinc.?

i went to verizon, and they told me that honeycomb is on tablet.
can honeycomb be installed on Dinc.?
My first guess would be no. 3.x was designed to be optimized for tablets, so most likely a no-go for handsets.
Sent from my telephone.
R2DoesInc released Honeycomb for the Inc, but it is unstable and he hasn't worked on it in forever.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA Premium.
Native Honeycomb also has no phone dialer and I do not belive R2 ever got one to work.
Better just use ics which is superior to honeycomb. Look in dev thread for ports. Keep in mind they still have issues.
Also I doubt anyone would port it I'd you still want it.

Of course 5.0 is aimed at larger devices but it will probably be ported to any device the developers see fit to port to.

Yeah scrap the Android 4 AOSP petition.
Lets make it Android 4 Sense this time and then Android 5 AOSP.
We can also send a petition to Qualcom to make and release a code to make the Desire processor dual core.
ICS is running fairly decently on Desire and Nexus One I'd say - still bugs but there's massive progress
we all cant wait until ICS is 100% working will be the day we all fall in love with our Desire again
I am amazed how smooth the ICS ASOP Rom is. But I'm back to Gingerbread and I don't think I'll update to 5.0 any time. I bought the Desire nearly two years ago right at the beginning and the development during this time was great.
IMHO it isn't necessary to update a two year old device to the newest os version.
I want ICS to work on the Desire. HTC still love it. They're just too lazy to get working software on older hardware.
Why not, why not. One reason more to work on 3.x kernel.
