With all the awesome games available for this device, has anyone figured out how to get an operational gamepad setup with it?
Essentially, I don't even want bluetooth here - a USB mounted device would work just fine.
Here's a thread about this. Maybe it will help somehow. Tell me if u found any solution because i'm looking to buy a gamepad too. Just waiting for someone to get it right.

Xbox controllers are radio wireless and not Bluetooth like the PS3 controllers. Unless it's changed recently?

Nope, haven't changed it since 2005.
i have a wired xbox 360 controller that i use from things like COD on my PC.
Haven't tried it on my phone because im lacking a usb host cable thing.
mind you the first 2 COD games.
Also bought and just received the Phonejoy for Bluetooth play.
update just ordered a usb host cable to try the xbox should come in 3-5 days.
Im using a phonejoy and its awesome. Yea PS3 work, but on my SG S2, my rom didnt allow that so I had to buy a bluetooth controller. But now I still have it for my Nexus So I wont bother to change my PS3 controller IP everytime I want to play on my nexus and PS3.
is ROOT required?? i want to use a original ps3 controller to play games in my galaxy nexus but i totally don't want to root.

I started a thread about the use of a PS2 Controller with a USB OTG adapter but it seems like nobody is interested in it, so i drop it (the thread) and i just bought a PS3 Controller.
I connected it with a mini USB cable to my Nexus (trough the OTG cable) and works like a charm! But it could be better if i was able to use it wirelessly.
I know the Sixaxis App works great, but i really don't want to buy the app, at least not right now, because i cannot accept the fact that the PS2 controller didn't work, and then the PS3 BT controller either! Besides, i read a lot of posts where users confirms that the controller is working with the Asus Prime tablet without the need of Sixaxis or Root.
I'm using the stock 4.0.4 version without a custom kernel and i'm rooted.
Please, there's nothing against the developers of Sixaxis, it costs only U$1.58, but i cannot accept the fact that ICS could not pair the controller by itself or at least using a custom rom and/or kernel.
You can't accept that you might have to buy a $1.58 app to pair a device with a proprietary controller using proprietary communications protocols that most likely had to be reverse engineered to work on Android, just because Android doesn't include this functionality to begin with?

just buy the app... or you could buy a BT dongle but it would cost the same but less is needed with the app.

But how can you explain that the controller is working with the Transformer Prime without the app? As i said before, i have no problem at all with the purchase of the app, i just was looking a simpler way to pair the device, because i own a blog and i wanted to teach the regular user to pair their controllers.

and i wouldnt use the OTG cable, id use the sixaxis app that i've used ever since about two years ago with my OG epic 4g
and i'd play Silent Hill, Resident Evil (1,2,3) as well as some other classics on FPSE!

Free or paid version? There are no apps to configure if using ps3 controller via otg.

Kool! Saw that a few days ago. How is the set up process and how does the phone handle it? Was thinking of buying a micro-full USB adapter to connect my PC gaming controller but this would be better...
I'm going to install FPSe and try out some the games that are out there.

try the compatibility checker to see if your device can use it (i use it on GS3 no problem but I'm stock. so idk about your ROM)

I plug in my controller to my PC and use the sixaxis pair tool

to change the address on the controller then i start the app on my phone and when it says "listening for controllers" i just press the home button on the controller.
then all the rest is easy configuration. and yeah i was thinking of buying an On The Go adapter, but i don't really think there is much use for it if you can just do it wirelessly.
I'm in the market to purchase a bluetooth controller that will be compatible with the 7 and from my research these two controllers seem to be the most discussed options. I am rooted and do not plan on mounting it to the Nexus. While I am used to the design of an Xbox 360 controller and the Moga is most similar to that design, I have read that the build quality is not quite as good as the ps3 controller. Being rooted, I am aware that both controllers can play an equal amount of games. Or that's my understanding anyway. I owned a different Moga over a year ago and used it with my rooted Razr M and it worked with any game that supported a controller with the use of root and a separate app I downloaded from the Play Store. It looks as if the Moga costs a bit more than a PS3 controller. But it also looks like I'll have to spend a few bucks on an adapter cable to initially set up the PS3 controller. So I'm at a bit of a crossroads. I understand it's going to come down to personal taste, but I was wondering if there was anything I'm missing here that maybe some of you could enlighten me about with pros or cons.
As a side note, I am waiting to hear more reviews on the Amazon TV device, but am considering purchasing it if it seems worth the price. It's my understanding that it will or does support bluetooth controllers in addition to the official Amazon controller. Since this purchase may be a possibility, I'd also have the hope that I'd possibly be able to use the same game controller with the Amazon TV as I do with my Nexus. Any advice would be great appreciated.

Haven't tried on the N7, but SixAxis Controller worked on my HTC One.
You don't need a special OTG cable (though it def makes it easier to pair), just the USB charging cable for the PS3 controller. You download an app to run on your PC to find out the bluetooth address of your controller. Instructions Here

The Moga pro works fantastic and I have been able to sync it to everything I own as a full functioning controller including the FireTV! Can't do that with a ps3 remote

Hmm then that may be worth reconsidering. I would like it to play with phone, Nexus and a possible TV device.

One thing to consider is I am pretty sure that the ps3 controller app requires root, where as the Moga does not. Just make sure to get the Pro or any of the power ones, the normal old school moga doesn't have enough buttons to work with everything. Also while gaming on the phone, the Moga has a built in GameClip so it holds your phone sort of like playing a Shield.

Yeah my devices are all rooted. I needed root with my original Moga to make it compatible with most all games and not just Moga compatible games. Thanks!

Yeah, the Moga Pro however does not need root like the original did. It has two separate modes with different drivers. One is their usual Moga driver you are used to and the other is a universal mode that just works.
PS3 all the way. Feels better and responds better. The separated D pad makes Retro gaming feel natural. It requires root but if you're a serious gamer you'll want root for other things like custom kernels and overclocks.
I use the PS3 on my Ouya too, which supports it out of the box. I use my Moga for travel but its just awkward.
PS3 feels like a solid gamepad where others feel like imitators.

One is jsut a holder that you need a PS3 controller to use, the other is the clip built into their controller. Depends if you want to buy a PS3 controller ot use or already have one.
As for if they need root, I don't know, but they are kind of two different products.
So if you want to play emulators than the second one isn't something for you. If you already have a Ps3 then the choice should be very clear.

xbox 360 controller is good I am using it too
These are cool I have never seen them before. I just plug my regular PS3 controller into it and set the phone up on a stand. It works with no extra programs which is awesome. Best is if you are rooted you can make the PS3 controller work with bluetooth and plug the S3 into a tv. Using a PS3 controller and seeing the image on the tv is pretty amazing and makes you feel like it's a real video game system.
i actually use the red samurai controller from gamestop...the great thing about it is that my laptop has bluetooth capability so i can use it on that as well...ive had it for about a year now and still runs like its brand new
I'd recommend the MOGA PRO series, really. It's quick and easy to set up & configure, and it supports most of the games.
The Galaxy SIII natively recognize PS3 controller via USB so it's still cool. Configuring bluetooth for the wireless one can be a pain, though (you'll need root access and a third party app)
As a side note, the MOGA CAN play emulators. The latest version of PSX emulators for Android already support this controller. As for the others (SNES, GBA, NDS etc) you can just manually map the buttons.
I'd recommend the Moga Pro too. Had it for quite some time and works like charm. Good to hold and play and nice battery backup.

I think they dropped support for DS3 in the new Xperias. I guess you can still try with an OTG cable
If you have a dualshock: In Settings > Device connection, scroll down to Game Controller and select Dualshock series.
If you have a sixaxis, you need Sixaxis controller from the playstore and the setup is trickier.
Note: Dualshock 3 might still require the sixaxis method. It seems to be mainly for Dualshock 4
Well that is really disappointing. I enjoyed using my ds3 on my z3c but now I can't find a way to use it on my phone that doesn't require rooting my new phone

Well they have to because if they keep doing this, people will keep using DS3 controllers. They have to sell DS4 controllers. You may know that everybody wants money,money and money... (so sad)
