Notification light inop - LG Nitro HD

Does any one know if the notification light is supposed to work on this phone?
Sent from my LG-P930 using xda premium

yours has one?

LG saved on the light and forth android-sdandard button.
These 3 holes on top front is camera, proximity sensor and ... don't know what's the third one.

the third hole is a place for DIY notification light...You can solder your own LEDs there

[Q] Location notification LED

Hi all,
Ever since i started using CM7 on my DHD the LED being used for notifications changed from the right one (next to the speaker mesh wire) to the left one (underneath the speaker mesh wire) (i didn't even know there was one before that time )
Since i'm working as a carpenter my phone (and especially this mesh wire) gets all clogged up with dust pretty much all the time which makes it very hard to see the notification LED underneath it. Is there any way to change it back to it's original LED on the right of the speaker?? I'd prefer a change in command lines in stead of using an app.
Using Cyanogenmod 7.2 now (which works perfect i must say, but can't wait on ICS!)
Any help is much appreciated
PS. Anyone know why it changed from right to left? My guess is because the LED's on a 4G are positioned differently.
Euhh... Anyone??
You are right. I didn't even remember there was a led on the right. If I don't get back to you by sunday it means I haven't found an answer. You got me curious about this as well.

It's then a proximity sensor, the thing on the right side which looks like a notification led?

correct, it is NOT an led, it is a sensor. it is how it tells if your face is next to the phone or not. start a phone call to your voice mail or whatever, and cover and let off of that spot with your finger, it will activate and deactivate the screen.
Ahh yes of course! Thanks guys!! It's just when i was using the original rom with Sense i could have sworn the LED was on the right. Hihi Silly me.
Thanks again! Yet another mystery solved!

notification light mod for samsung oem flip case

Oops!!!!! Did samsung forget to put a hole where the notification led is? Why funny you should ask that. It sure seems like they did. Here is an easy way to fix that annoying little oversight. All you need is:
A drill
A 3/32 drill bit
A single edge razor blade
A pen
Some patience
The led to the left of the speaker is the notification led.Simply measure across the distance to the middle of the led light. Make a dot on the front of the case. Drill slowly through the front first, then you can bounce to the back.Do that a few times then I used just the drill bit by hand and a single edge razor blade to clean it up. Lastly put the pen through the hole several times in front and back to make sure the hole is perfect. I also pushed lightly with the pen while turning it, to make sure the case was completely flat again on both sides. Now enjoy your flip case the way it should of been in the first place. .
I didn't know if I should post this in general or accessories so mods if I put it in the wrong place I apologize and feel free to move it.
Thanks
Very clever:thumbup:

Yeah, seems EVERYONE forgot. It is driving me crazy! I got a cheap cover for a start and was going to exactly that. Don't have a drill, but will have to improvise, starting with your method unless I can borrow a leather-belt-hole-puncher (those might be faster and give a cleaner hole).
Samsung should pay attention to its own features and learn how to do it properly. I expect other cases to have sloppy usability design, but not theirs.
I was going to do the exact same thing with the free one I will be receiving in a couple weeks. Glad to know it works.
Actually enjoy not having the hole in the flip cover. I usually forget to turn off led notification before I go to bed. The light blinking will wake up my wife.

Blocking mode will allow you to set times when specific notifications are disabled. I block all led and sound notifications between 11pm and 7am, but allow phone calls and alarms during this period.
I did this and it looks badass. Thanks op

That's a really cool idea!! It was one of the first things that I noticed was missing on the case. However after having the caee for almost 2 months now I am finding that the edges are peeling and I may just switch to another case.

Thanks for the mod.
Will try it soon.
Going to have to carefully measure the hole placement.
What a cool idea! Once my free flip case arrives ill try this out. Thanks!

I can see where you are coming from on that. In my case, I did the mod more so to be able to still see the notification and keep the case closed to keep the note protected at all times. You could always flip it over at night?

Just a thought here, I didn't think of this till just now but you can plug in the note and lay a piece of paper across it and make your mark that way. I just tried it out and the led glows right through the paper. That should leave no room for error if it is done that way.

I think I now know why Samsung (almost almost everyone else) is not adding LED cutouts to the covers. I have had my N7000 for four days now and LED behaviour is very erratic. Sometimes it just stops working completely. Sometimes it doesn't light up even while charging. The hardware test shows that the LED is fine, being definitely a sw issue.
try a hole punch!
I wound up using a paper hole punch. Size of the hole is good to be able to see the light from different angles and doesn't actually look too big at all and it's very clean. Punch through the front first though.
You can't spend enough time working out exactly where to punch though! I marked on the hole punch itself on two sides the position and size the hole and measured, marked and measured again.
The case material is good for punching like this, it's solid.
I imagine a leather punch will be as good or better and allow you to more exactly position the hole, but I didn't have one and I'm impatient

Notification light

Right so my notification went out due to dirt so I opened my phone and cleaned it out now I have the light showing from 5 holes
So question really is should I leave it or attempt to get it back to normal?
If I do try what do you suggest I do?
Edit, I cleaned it from outside a bit more and the light is much bright than in picture can see light still.
I'm thinking maybe trying to block the others from the outside.

Looks funny...
I had a similar quirk when I switched to hox+ battery.
You basically need to get some black (or very dark) electrical tape and cut it into shape around the led element.
There's also a black plate (glued to the polycarbonate body) that filters the light to shine only through one hole. In your case that might be broken or displaced.
I can upload a pic tomorrow.

Yeah there was some black tape stuff by the power button that was hanging down I just assumed it was just some tape holding the power button on the case.
I'm thinking if I get some black tap and use a pin I could fill in/block off the holes from outside as I'd rather not open it again.
I'm glad I got my light back but I didn't want 5
Edit: for now I have disabled notification light and using button notification. Amen for custom kernel

Not quite sure what it is supposed to do. There is a cut out for the front led notification light but apart from when you double tap the screen or close it there is no light in standby. Also the cover itself does not have a light but a clear plastic ring which refracts the light from the screen, it looks ok but you can't customize the colour or anything. It is just white.
Edit: and whilst the cover has been on my phone I have noticed reduced battery. The rear cover is a different material to the original cover, it is a ridged plastic. It feels OK but not as nice as the normal rear cover.
The lighting on the circle case is fake, it is just a piece of clear plastic reflecting the LCD.
The LCD animate a ring around the clock when you close the cover. I haven't find any app to change the lighting yet, I hope one will come out soon.
As a side note to anyone wanting to get one.
If you get a Glass protector, I couldn't get the cover to magnetically close, it seems the extra mm from the glass is preventing this.
Anyone got a plastic screen protector, can you confirm the cover can magnetically close?

Always on display? Notification led?

No AOD it's LCD so it'll eat power
There's a notification led but it's impossible to see when the phone is on a table.

Why? Is it buried inside the top speaker screen? Can you only see it when holding up and looking straight into it?

Yeah, it's under the grill, next to the FFC.
It's hard to see unless you're looking at it straight on because it's miniscule. With it being behind the grill blocks the view beyond a very narrow field of vision.
