OP, right now its going to be difficult to find the replacement..sorry to hear about it

Yeah no other manufacturer is making screens yet, Ebay is the only option. Nothing wrong with Ebay I just like having feedback for products I buy. Plus it's 200 on Ebay lol

Kind of ressing a dead post, but found this. at 182 dollars, cheapest I can find out on the market right now... recently my phone has suffered a glass shattering as well....
i found an ebayer selling at 250, but became unlisted after a few days (prob sold out right now) and a few other stores selling for 250.

It's going to be hard to find a screen cheap. The screens alone are between 225-250 thats not including if you're paying somebody for the labor. Quite honestly you're better off buying one second hand. Due to the nature of the screen glass and digitizer being married together to create the slim feel it also brings more expense in replacement...and get the insurance next time...its only 25 cents a day.

reason why I dont get insurance is cause there's an extra deductible. of at least 110-130. On top of that, they' might send you a refurbished one, not actually just repairing your phone. And that one may come with more problems than its worth. I definitely don't think insurance is worth it.
You'll end up paying 250 to replace the screen through a 3rd party repair shop, 180 if you do it yourself, or 280 (130 deductible plus 150 insurance cost over 20 months) over the life of the phone to repair a broken screen. If you go the insurance route, you'll pay 150ish regardless if you break your screen or not.

$162 at Samsung
It is $162 directly through Samsung. That covers 2nd day air both ways and the repair. Six day turn around and real time repair tracking. It is truly the only way to do it.
They expedite it since it is such a new device really I don't see how you could choose any other way!

Makes me think more about buying the accidental square trade. I think it's $125 for 2 years. Covering accidental damages.

square trade has a 50 dollar deductible. And I believe the fine print says you can file a claim only once every 2 years. If you file a claim in the first year, you'll have to buy new coverage.
Essentially, insurance is a company that is trying to make money, so I don't see how it is a good investment. But if you do go for square trade, google 30% off or 20% off coupons. They send them out fairly frequent.

cracked screen DIY solution

hi has anyone tried this?
cracked my screen this morning, grabbed it from my bedside table, it was plugged in to the charger, tugged out of me hand flat on the floor and pow.
so i found these on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-Desire-Brav...ewItem&pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item439f675cd7
htc digitizers/ screens whatever you would like to call them...
so has anyone tried this? are these reliable? good quality? could be a cheaper solution for the many people who have cracked their screens in this forum.
thanks.
*** (* This is Touch Screen / Touch Pad Only, LCD Display Screen NOT included)
most cracked screens are only the touch screen so buying this is fine, if you ****ed the LCD display your phone most likely got under a car's wheels.
Take out an insurance policy, wait a month, sorted
yeah the lcd is completely fine its the digitizer..
i dont want to wait one month.. i might just get this to try it out.. then take out insurance..
anybody know good insurance company in the uk?

galaxy nexus repair price

I am one of those people who have a crack on my nexus screen.
its not a major crack in the middle of my screen so I am not rushing to get it fixed, but when I contacted a lot of repair shops near me, the price to replace the LCD is seems to range in $300-400.
will this price ever go down? some guy told me it will only go up as time passes..
im not sure if he said that so I'll go fix my phone at his shop
or
if he was being honest...
so the question is
will the price of repair cost for this phone go down eventually? if so, will it ever be around $100-200?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
Gonna have to do it yourself for a fraction of the price. It is not worth it to pay $300 for a repair... that's well over 1/2 the price of what a used device goes for. Even like $200 is atrociously high.
The cheapest I have found the replacement screen is $269, so the quotes you are getting sound about right. You could try to buy the screen and do it yourself. If you want to try it, here is a link to the part on Ebay: http://tinyw.in/vXxI. Also, for a complete teardown tutorial go here: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung-Galaxy-Nexus-Teardown/7182/1. Even though that is for the GSM model, it should still help you out because there isn't much difference.
As far as him telling you that it will get more expensive, I don't know. It is possible because because of supply and demand. It's also possible it could get cheaper especially if third party Chinese vendors start making them. You can get a screen & digitizer for an iPhone 3GS for $8 from China. They are not the same quality you would get from OEM's, but they do work. I have bought and fixed many, many broken iPhones and used the aftermarket screens and sold them for profit. The problem is, the Galaxy Nexus is not near as popular as the iPhone, so it's hit or miss whether or not these thrid party vendors will make them. If it was a Galaxy S 2, you could probably find it.
Good luck!
PS. Get the insurance next time. You would have to pay $100 deductible, but you would get a refurbished or brand new phone and usually the next business day after filing the claim.
You should definitely give Samsung a call, you should see the answers I posted in my related thread: [Q] Galaxy Nexus (SCH-i515) Replacement Screen -- Answered and see if my notes there help you. I got my phone repaired for less than $165.00 which seems to be in your $100-$200 range.
Getting it repaired for $270 is INSANE people...you could get a new Galaxy Nexus for $349 from the Play Store right now.
I just cracked my screen (so dumb and I just knew it was cracked fro mthe way it hit the ground completely flat on the screen)...Samsung told me it will cost me $250 not including shipping...others have told me different prices from Samsung which is very disconcerting....I said screw it and ordered the entire LCD/Digitizer display from Ebay for $199 with expedited shipping which came out to $224....I'm pissed about about paying this price but I have a white Galaxy Nexus and want to keep a white one....so I just got fed up and ordered it...the process for doing it yourself doesn't seem too hard...and I already have a screw driver that fits the screws holding the phone together behind the battery door...hopefully all goes well tomorrow.
I actually just got off chat support with a Samsung rep, and they told me that it would be roughly $165 to send it in for replacement. Most everything else hovers around $150-$200, so I figure I'll just send it in to them.

I just bought a new OEM screen digitizer LCD for less than 85. shipped on eBay.
Yeah, I had a crack in the digitizer glass. I bought a used ebay screen for $50 and replaced it myself. Works like a charm.

Shattered screen glass

Just a warning. 3ft drop to the corner of the device when you have no case on it WILL totally shatter the screen. Wife dropped it. $200 to replace the device. Sprint warranty for $11 a month is a joke. Better to get external insurance.`
I sadly don't know how mine broke. Quite fragile if you ask me

Best Buy Black Tie Insurance. That is why I don't have one yet, won't get it (or any phone) without Black Tie..And I sell phones, not for Best Buy.
Worth Ave Group. Insurance has NO deductible. Like $70 (guesstimate...but it's really cheap) a year for a $700 policy.
Call them. I have my wife's DSLR insured through them $2500 for $205 bucks a year. Theft is included as well as damage. Stupidly, I had not renewed and added this phone to her policy yet this year as it just expired like 3 weeks ago...and I was going to add her phone and cancel Sprint rip off $11 a month fee.
I'm an idiot for not doing it immediately.

I know I would rather pay $200 than shell out $650 for a brand new one. I keep the Sprint insurance for the lost/stoled coverage and the in store repairs.
Sucks to hear that it had such a short life

A short drop even on concrete is not guaranteed to cause the screen to shatter. In most instances you'll just get minor cosmetic damage to the case, tough break though...
Now all this insurance talk is pretty interesting. Sprint charged you $200 to replace a phone under warranty? That sucks. Any better options for those of us who purchased through Sprint?

I was looking at squaretrade for 125 for 2 years, and I am thinking 100 deductable. I am curious if best buy will let you buy it after the fact that you got it at sprint?
Best Buy handles the IPhone differently but..As for Android:
You should only buy Best Buy insurance IF you purchase the phone with Best Buy.
Once you buy the phone from Best Buy you have 30 days to add insurance for $10/mo. There is NEVER a deductible. Most phones are on "rapid replacement" meaning that they give you a loaner until your new or newly refurbished comes in in 2-3 days max. They cover water damage, physical damage and even bricked phones from rooting and screwing them up. The ONLY thing they don't cover is lost or stolen.
IMO, I would return the phones to Sprint and grab it from Best Buy. I would have done that myself except I have a Buy Back on my GS2 for ~$220. If you get it from best buy, you can STILL get Sprint's Insurance. While traveling just after getting my GS2 I kept both insurances for about 2 months encase my phone was lost or stolen.

Yep.

Way better.
Cell Phone Insurance
2 Years Coverage
Serial Number: XXXXXXXXXXX
Coverage Amount: $599.00
Deductible Amount: $50.00
Price:
$118.00
-$5.90
$112.10 (2 years)
Processing Fee: $5.00
Total: $117.10 (2 years!)
Vs. $200 deductible and $11 per month for Sprint which is $264 (two years).
Sprint= $464 to get back a $300 valued through them phone. I called, you do NOT own the phone after this, and I do not know if I can just cancel the Sprint insurance after using it either.
vs.
Worthave= $167 and they give you $600 back.
I could feasibly run the Worth ave for $600 and if I kept Sprint's insurance pay $200 to replace the phone and keep the remaining $400. unless I have to turn the phone in to Worth Ave group. Then that wouldn't work because I know that Sprint wants the phone when it is being replaced.
But if I had to choose one over the other...Sprint for $464 (over 2 years and plus the $200 deductible) to NOT own the phone...vs...WorthAve at $167 (for a full two years) and I get $600 towards owning the phone which I think costs $700 right now.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong here.
Woooow Worth Ave insurance is amazing.
I just called Worth Ave. If My wife takes 1 single online course. They will give her a college bundle discount with a $25 dollar deductible for up to 4K of insurance!!!!
For...drum rolllllllll
$110 a year. She just has to be enrolled first. Unreal. Best deal EVER.
Oh...and after the course is done...we can keep the bundle package as long as we don't let it lapse year to year after that.
4K of insurance (laptop, phone, camera, lens) accidental damage, or theft...for $110 a year.
Done deal.

Yeah manufacturers warranty only covers defects to the device not damage caused by a consumer. On a side note about dropping, it either slid off my bed or was something in my pocket, but I some how managed to puncture the bezel right above the s-pen. Perfect hole in the bezel but luckily no screen damage.
I put on an invisible shield type protector on the screen. Figured the sheer size of the screen would lend itself to possible damage. The extra tackiness of the protector isn't an issue, and the drag on the pen feels nice. Every little bit helps. It's one of those soapy water type protectors, fyi.

I actually throw a bunch on at one shot. One on the GN2, S3 and my Cowon S9. It's a touch more fuss than a normal protector, and if it's cut well, lasts a lot longer and is more protective. It's only hard if you skimp on the water.
Final post in here guys for me.
Check out the WorthAve thread. I just put the whole final story in there. You don't have to be in college or enrolled in ANY online class to get their insurance.... 2k worth with a $25 dollar deductible for like $67 dollars a year (using that 15off promo code I found and purchasing online).
Someone actually accused me for working for them. Even though I have been at XDA for over 2 years and have over 600 posts. lol. Whatever. Check out my thread over there...decide for yourself.

Broken Screen
My 23 year old daughter paid for the phone and pays for the service. She still lives at home. But a daddy still wants to make the hurt go away.
We have the insurance but the $175 is more than the $149 down payment. It will be a life lesson that she can afford. The funny thing is that I bought her a $6 (it's not really a case) soft cover that sticks up a little past the screen level. She said it slipped out of her hand. I've done that many times with my S3 with no problem.
I was hoping for a suggestion to get around any payment. All I could find in a search was that the S4 broke easier than a Iphone 5. If, sometime in the near future it is shown that the screens are "defective" that I was hoping to make a claim.
Back to reality. She'll pay for it. Then maybe a heavy duty case.
Thanks for the comments.

If you paid with some kind of credit card most companies have a 90 warranty on the phone, covering loss (wink wink) and other accidents. I would get in contact with my CC company and find out what kind of purchase protection they have before dishing out any more cash

There is almost no way it's been 30 days considering most T-Mobile pre-orders shipped within the past week or two.
He can still buy the $99 SqT warranty.
I broke an N2 screen and the cost to repair by Samsung was $178 including taxes and 2 day shipment bot ways.
If the glass is cracked but the screen still works OK (mine did), there was a tread where the glass only was available for $25 and the OP replaced it only. I requires skill and patience and some other materials and possibly tools, but it was the cheapest path.

Did you get Best Buy 2yr protection plan?

So just getting the black 360 2 days ago, I was asked if I wanted the protection plan offered by Best Buy. I gave it some thought and still not sure.
Seeing as its a watch, more probably to get hit or damaged, the screen shattering or issues with pixels, battery loosing the ability to hold a charge sooner, etc.. for 2 years they'll give you a new replacement.
Did anyone decide to get the plan? Share your thoughts as to why you did or didnt. Is it even worth it?
A warranty like this is basically a gamble that you'll use it. If you do, then you win. If not, you lose. I tend to steer clear of this kind of warranty unless I think there's a high possibility that I'll use it.
In this case, the watch will almost certainly be obsolete (meaning, no longer sold) or otherwise unavailable within that two year period. Once that happens, it means purchase price refunded if I run into any issues or anything I can no longer live with (like the battery no longer holding a full day's charge -- something that is also likely to happen after 700+ daily charges over two years). That's $250 plus tax toward the purchase of whatever the current model would be at the time.
That makes the warranty a little more desirable, since it gives me an out if I run into a "Galaxy Nexus" scenario, where the 360 wouldn't be upgradable to the next version of Android Wear, or otherwise becomes unusable. For that reason alone, I purchased the warranty.
how much was it? what plan did it fall under?

The Best Buy plan offered for this doesn't include damage. It's essentially just an extended manufacturer warranty. Screen damage wouldn't be covered. For something like that I would (and did) go with SquareTrades accidental damage coverage. Can find a coupon for 40% off on ebay that brings the price to around $40 for 3 years coverage. Well worth that in my opinion.
Still difficult choice as the accidental damage would probably have a higher probability of occuring, but yet the BB extended protection would be nice if the 360 isnt supported 2yrs from now and then the $ can go towards a new wearable, which at that point would be more advance and similarly priced.

Not sure what makes it a difficult choice? Basically same price and better coverage makes it a pretty clear choice to me.

Ahh no sorry it's the standard coverage PLUS accidental coverage. You can get just standard coverage for cheaper too though.

Figure the accidental would be nice.. Do you know what square trade does if the product isnt available or what not? like similar to best buy?
No. I don't plan on having this watch at this time next year. I'm quite certain I'll be buying next years improved watch from whoever makes it.

From everything I can find they reimburse you the retail price but I didn't really dig too hard.

No no nooo. I work at best buy and the protection plan DOES include accidental. It also includes water damage and screen breakage. Not complete water damage (swimming with it on) but say if something spills on it or if it breaks after being rained on.
I definitely did get it, granted, I did only payed $20 for the 2 year protection.

Sorry but you're wrong and it's been discussed at length on reddit. The only plan offered for the 360 (or any smartwatch) is the standard protection plan. Easy to see by simply going online and adding a watch to your cart, the geeksquad protection option pops up immediately with the standard plan as the only option.

I can confirm this. Just checked my receipt (bought in store) and the protection plan is GSP-R which does NOT cover accidental damage.
Thank you for the heads up, I just canceled the plan and will be going with squaretrade. They are cheaper anyway with the 40% off coupons that are floating around.
I bought the securranty.com warranty that covers everything with no deductible for claims. Covers accidents, water etc. With coupon it's around 50, so a little more expensive. I have used them before and they take care of problems fast.

I got my Moto 360 from BB w/ the protection plan.
Does the BB protection plan cover the cracking on the back?
i got the protection plan on my watch, the lady told me everything was protected except for obvious water damage.. but she also said that if it got wet and stopped working, they usually replace it anyway.

I'm curious about this as well, although I would assume the cracked back would be covered. Thinking about buying the Moto 360 from Best Buy mainly for their protection plan since the back will probably end up cracking on mine due to my skinny, girly-man sized wrists.

ya the Guy at my BB told me the same thing, his weekend i'm going to go in and see if i can replace mine. I'll post when i find out
I bought my watch at Best Buy as well. I was specifically told told that their protection plan did not cover accidental damage, like screen cracks or water damage. I had no intention of buying it, so I didn't ask for details. Bought a SquareTrade warranty that was $40ish, is for three years, and has no deductible. Easily the best deal available.
