Distinguishing between 3G and 2G connectivity - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using a flashed Epic 4G on the Page Plus network. Whenever I have a data connection, the 3G icon appears on my phone. Does this 3G icon refer to true 3G (i.e. EVDO), or does it include 2G speeds (i.e. 1xRTT) as well?
Are there any indicators out there that can distinguish between 2G and 3G data connectivity?

On the stock framework for Epic they use the 3G icon for 1x and 3G connections. Many custom ROMs/themes have a proper 1x icon in them. Also, you can download Network Info II from the market and it'll show what mode you are in under "Net Type:" about halfway down the screen.

switch 2G/3G manually?

Hi..
Anybody knows how to switch manually to use 2G or 3G only?
Because sometimes when I am on the 3G coverage area, the phone still use the EDGE data connection rather than the 3G/HSDPA data connection. It really annoy me because the speed is slow if I use the EDGE connection.
In my old nokia, it allows me to use the 2G/3G connection only, so I wonder if desire can also do that.
Settings/wireless & networks/mobile networks/network mode. The auto is however set up quite well. The reason you keep finding edge, is that the edge signal might be stronger that the 3G. 3G will always be the preferred option for the phone, but keep in mind that a strong signal on edge will beat a poor signal on 3G where download speed is concerned. Therefor your phone tends to pick the fastest/strongest signal in your area.

How to Powersave through 3g

I was wondering how one switches from 4g to 3g(which i think people here call edge) to save battery.
I dont see it anywhere in settings so i wasnt sure what people did..
Thanks!
I think you mean 3g to 2g. This phone does not have "4g". It's just 3g with higher throughput.
I'm not sure if you can on the stock rom without a USSD code. But on custom roms it's:
Settings
Wireless and network
Mobile networks
Network mode
GSM only.
Unfortunately apps like llama/JuiceDefender can't do it automatically when you're on WiFi or not using data because Google "blocked" it. I think CM7 allows apps to control 2g/3g toggle though.
I thought if your wifi was on the 4g was turned off.
Also, on stock 2.5.- the system folder for wireless settings has a choice to only use the edge frequency. I don't know for any of the modded roms or the newer stock 2.6.- versions. Hope this helped.
T-Mobile uses 3.5g(which they call it 4g) a more advance 3g speeds so a with a 4g/3g toggle wouldn't do any good unless you wanna go to edge/2g. is not like Verizon where I think you have your Band for 2g/3g and a separate Band for 4g so what the toggle does its just turn off the 4g Band and automatically goes to 3g. but with Tmobile your have your Bands for 1g/2g and another band for 3g/3.5g(fake 4g) so using a toggle you would only be blocking 3g.

3g signal issue

So here is my grudge as of now with the gnex. When I go from roaming to 3g or airplane to 3g, it takes an unbelievably long time to actually GET the 3g signal. It will show me that I have 3 or 4 bars of service but does not show me the little 3g icon. I am currently running Sourcery 3.2 as my rom and have my mobile network set to CDMA only. Is this a common issue or do I have a possible shotty gnex?

[Q] Switch from 4G to 3G

I have an E980. Signal keeps on dropping mainly because of the 4g connection having low signals. Couldnt find anywhere the 4g to 3g settings.
On KK 4.4.2. How can i switch settings to ONLY 3G or perhaps limit it to ONLY 2G?

Same location, issue when on 4G, but none on LTE?

When my T-Mobile Note 3 is connected to LTE, I have very stable connection, regardless of the speed.
But when it switched to 4G, there is zero our unstable connection, even when I have full bars.
I have the default APN. Anything i need to change? Tested throughout Nevada and California.
Monitoring this closely, the connection is lost or unstable as soon as it switched to 4G from LTE OR when there's is no connection.
Example:
1. On LTE, good internet connection, full bar
2. Auto switch to 4G. Still full bar. No internet or unstable
Example:
1. Coming out from subway, had zero bar before
2. Connected to 4G, no data
3. Connected to LTE. Have data
