Alot of people make the mistake of thinking used memory is a bad thing, this is untrue on the android platform, the more ram being used the better performance you are getting due to the fact android OS knows how to close down applications itself when in need. This is also the reason why app-killer apps are bad not good for your phone. Think about it, ram is kind of like your phones short term memory, it you free that up then it will take longer for it to open processes. Be lucky you are using an AOSP rom, sense roms usually only have about 100 to 150mb of ram free because of all the things senseUI requires. The amount of ram you have free is normal. Unless you get down to like 20mb of ram there is no reason to be concerned whatsoever. If ram wasn't meant to be used then why would they be progressively increasing the amount of it in each new device released?
P.S. with the sound of your concern i can only assume you are coming from a blackberry device prior to your current android.

You are wrong, before my inc2. I had inc1,and before inc1 i had an env2.lol....but i dont now much about android system.

Hey man, it's all good. I just made that assumption because i have lots of friends that came from blackberry, I did myself and anyone that has ran one of those devices knows that you have to constantly watch your ram. Was just trying to give you some info so you don't know not to worry about ram consumption on the android platform.

Ok,bro i just want to learn more about this system.

Isn't the internal storage simply a partition on our internal memory? Could we possibly expand it?
It was just ported to Desire HD, and i believe the phone specs are comparable to Inc...

most likely not the rom size is huge and even if we removed bloat and apps and deo dex it would stil be to big i think sense 2.1 is the highest version of sense the incredible will ever get ported to it. Time for an upgrade for me just waiting for a dual core htc phone to hit verizon

It doesn't look likely: http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/14/htc-sense-3-0-will-only-support-sensation-evo-3d-flyer-and-new/
Seems like htc has upped the ante on the devices. I have a thunderbolt now and they're saying its a no go for us. I think devs can port over some of the key features tho. Widget locker might be able to kind a replicate the lock screen. That or someone in Dev land will create an app that will replicate. A home replacement app can definitely replicate the behavior ie the carousel home screen scrolling. Google spb mobile shell5 for android. Regina 3d home has an animated flip clock!!! Trust me. Home replacement app developers can do this!! Fede can do it if he does his homework. Let's flood his forums with the idea. Lol. Imo he should definitely step his game up before lp gets left behind like helix launcher...
I think htc is full of s#!+ tho. How they gonna say that the firmware requires dual core and the htc flyer (single core) will have it. Sheesh!

not really the system partition is bigger on thunderbolt then in it isn the incredible but still just maybe we might get a sense 3.0 port.
How much space is needed? Looks like I could probably easily steal 50-75mb from datadata and put it in system. I only have 22mb of 130 used... Depends on how full it ever gets though.
How much space is used in everyone's datadata partition? Open a terminal and type df and look under the used column.
This would be really cool.

I heard it was 256mb but idk
I'm kind of thinking that if Sense 3.0 is sluggish on the Sensation, it'll be something like unusable on the Incredible.

Ok, I am running them now. Let me do some testing and report back. I do notice that things do seem to reopen faster after you open them the first time like G-Talk,messaging,browser,etc but let me mess with it some more. I still have to charge battery and re-calibrate my battery..EDIT..I want someone else to try this out to see if things feel faster to them like they do for me. Almost instantly when you press them.

I believe he said that its not ready for Gingerbread. There are a lot of changes to be made to the scripts before it will work. This is for Froyo

I just finished installing this script - it's the real deal. From what I could gather, it passively optimizes memory management by changing when different priority tasks get killed, which optimizes how much free memory you have.
For us Epic users, I found that using custom settings works the best. Since the Epic has 384 MB RAM and the scripts were designed for 256 MB phones, I chose memory values in between "aggressive" and "megaram 512mb". Apps used to have a small delay before they drew - completely gone. This is also a much more efficient and logical "task killer".
The settings I found worked the best were 6,10,30,45,60,75.
It's very noticeable, even running SyndicateROM 1.2/Genocide 2 @1.2GHz.

Im on EG22 and im running option 9 right now...... I really noticed a difference...... I wonder if someone could implement these scripts into a kernel for our epics
FYI... If an alternative would be to use Galaxy Tuner > Memory Manager > Application cache and plug in those values EnervinE was kind enough to provide to us all.
That would be true if the SuperCharger script was just another lowmemorykiller/minfree tweaker.
FYI: Which it isn't

btw, it runs great on gingerbread.
In case of errors, try a lower busybox version.
As I said in the PM, it depends on which point the phone gets laggy.
If it's laggy at 50mb free ram, set slot 3 to 50 mb so that you won't have less than that.
For slots 4, 5, and 6, it really depends on how much multitasking you want or don't want.

SGS3 I747 storage issue

I've searched for this similar problem prior to posting. Forgive me if I overlooked it. My total storage space is 12.05 GB (16 GB version). Here's the breakdown of what's currently used:
Apps - 0.93 GB
Audio - 220 KB
Downloads - 522 MB
Available space remaining 5.73 GB.
What's occupying the other (roughly) 5 GB of space?? It was showing a lot more accurate prior to trying out custom ROMs. Currently running cm-10 9/02 update. Had the same issue running Paranoid Android cm-10. Any ideas?

I am just so pissed that I bought this phone because we can't move our apps to the SD card like you can on almost all other android phones. I can't understand, with all the great developers on XDA that this hasen't been addressed. Am I the only one that really finds that apps to SD is really helpful?

I found this frustrating also. I didn't think twice about buying the 16GB AT&T since it had a MicroSD slot and I was under the impression that apps could be installed on SD just like pre-ICS android devices. I have a Nook Color running CM7 and it is soooooo flexible with storage. One plus, it does seem a lot harder to fill android devices with 12Gb of apps than my IOS devices.
I think it would be a lot better if the OS at least tried harder to reserve the internal "SD" for apps and pushed data, music, downloads etc... to the external SD if installed.
I am really happy I found HighOnAndroid ROM. It actually swaps the SD card and internal memory so that the phone now has 29 gigs. The rom is smooth and the battery is great. This is the only rom I know of that even deals with this storage issue at all (as far as I know)

Thanks, I cleared mine also.
I have to ask this again. I don't think many of the dev look at this General list but here goes.
Why are all the devs (from what I can see after many hours of reading and trying roms) ignoring this storage problem we have on the G3. I would think that this would be right up there at the top of the list as this phone almost renders a 32gig or 64gig card useless.
Like I said above, I am using HighOnAndroid ROM which is the only one that even comes close to addressing this issue by swapping the external SD with the internal one giving me 29gigs on my 15gig S3 (again, excuse me if I am wrong here).
I was planning on going back to stock when JB comes from sammy but without this fixed I either stay with HighOnAndroid ROM or get the new Note 2.

2.17 Issues

Hi guys, couldn't find the answers I'm looking for so i thought I'd start a thread that everyone could post issues and fixes for the most recent update. If this should be in Q & A feel free to move it.
So I got my update last week from Vodafone Australia and just noticed a couple of issue's that maybe the guys that have had the update for a month now can help with.
Basically first thing is there is less free ram, I used to have about 400mb free most of the time now its down to about 300mb.
Now this is only an issue to me as I think it affects my real problem.
The internet has become next to useless to me and it's what I use my phone for 75% of the time. Basically if I try to do anything else the page has to reload, if its fully loaded or just half loaded as soon as I take it off the screen it has to load again.
This isn't just a multitasking issue as it also happens if I switch between tabs, the one in the background always has to reload and I think this is due to not having enough ram to do anymore than have one web page open.
Has anyone experienced a similar issue and know a fix?
My phone is 100% stock btw.
Thanks for the help.
For me, Youtube video stutters after updating to 2.17. It's not a network issue. Even offline (watch later) videos stutter.
No issues whatsoever. My One X flys. Even have much better battery life than before 2.17 update. Try factory reset.
And free RAM is wasted RAM in Linux.

Well yes but if there's more ram available then there's more headroom for multitasking and in theory apps are less likely to be closed.

But big Internet page doesn't take 300mb of ram. I doubt that much more than 1mb. And browser maybe 30mb. Correct me if I'm wrong but 300 mb is plenty of ram for browsing.
Update: HTC browser 80mb right now with 3tabs open: engadget, phandroid and siol site.
